Robert K. Bauer, 79

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Kubina Yuhasz Funeral Home, 5925 Market St. in Boardman, for Robert K. Bauer, 79, who passed away on Friday at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Mr. Bauer was born Aug. 18, 1929 in Milwaukee, a son of Conrad and Elizabeth Bauer Bauer.

A former resident of Mansfield, Robert attended Mansfield Senior High School. He moved to the Youngstown area in 1973.

Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as an electrician, first with the Ohio Edison Company and then at GM Lordstown, retiring from that facility in the year 2000 after 28 years of service. He also was a member of the Wedgewood Park Evangelical Congregational Church and of UAW Retirees.

A Mason for 39 years, he currently belonged to the Argus Lodge, where he achieved the rank of 32nd Degree Mason. Several years ago, he and his wife were Ohio State Ballroom Dance Champions.

Robert is survived by his son, Robert A. Bauer at home; his daughter, Laura Lynn (Paul) Bauer Bradley of Redwood, Calif.; his brother, William Bauer of Mansfield; several cousins with whom he was very close including, Catherine Lutz and Elina and Fred Miller; and two grandchildren.

Besides his parents and his wife, the former Ingeborg S. Petri, whom he married Aug. 9, 1958 and who died March 28, 2000, he was preceded in death by his stepsisters, Christine Didicher and Elizabeth Rusiska; and his stepbrothers, Jacob Rusiska, Pete Rusiska, and George Rusiska.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m., where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m.

Visitation will also take place at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the services.

Raymond G. Bennight, 58

NEWTON FALLS – Raymond G. Bennight, 58, entered into rest Sept. 27, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital following a sudden illness.

Raymond was born the son of J. Gordon and Ruth (Mowery) Bennight June 15, 1950 in Warren.

He was a 1969 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and was employed as plant manager of Bliss Manufacturing Corp. for 24 years. He was currently employed with Masternick Vending Co. in the management department for 10 years.

Raymond was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was an avid sports fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and the Cleveland Indians. He was a member of the I.F.H. Club in Girard.

On Sept. 18, 1982, Raymond was united in marriage with Linda (DeMas) Bennight.

Survivors include the love of his life, Linda; his mother; three brothers, Tom, Don and Lee; brother-in-law, Bob (Lisa); godchild, Taylor; and mother-in-law, Jean. He will be dearly missed by his dog, Dasher.

Raymond was preceded in death by his father; brother, Jim; and fathers-in-law, Jim and Frank.

Private memorial services were held; cremation has taken place.

Aldo H. Bettile, 84

CANFIELD - Aldo H. Bettile, 84, left this earthly world, following a brief illness, at 4:19 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, to be eternally with Our Heavenly Father.

Aldo was born July 26, 1924 in Quecreek, Pa., the only child of the late Vergilio and Lena Fararno Bettile, who immigrated to the United States from Soave, Italy. Aldo came to the Youngstown area in 1950.

Mr. Bettile served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army as a surgical technician, and was awarded several commendations, including The Purple Heart.

After the war, Aldo worked for 30 years for Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Brier Hill Works, retiring as an electrician lineman in 1979.

Aldo was a member of St. Charles Church, enjoyed ballroom dancing at the Idora Park ballroom, square dancing, traveling, and he enjoyed the five years he spent living in Florida. Most importantly, Aldo really loved spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Bettile leaves his beloved wife, Rose Marie Oshansky Bettile, originally from Conemaugh, Pa., whom he met in 1948 and to whom he was married for the past 59 years; three daughters, Sandra (Paul) Cornille of Tampa, Fla., Gloria (James) Naumoff of Poland, and Diane (John) Comer of Nashville, Tenn.; a son, Anthony J. (Kim) Bettile of Canfield; seven grandchildren, Brian Niro, Jeffrey Naumoff, Katie Naumoff, Jessica Comer, Anthony B. Bettile, Brittany Bettile, and Matthew Comer; and two great-grandchildren, Elijah Hal and Jacob Niro.

Aldo will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 6, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and continue at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Boardman.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.

Aldo’s family would like to thank the staff at the Veterans Administration for their help and guidance during the last several years, and to thank the medical staff at St. Elizabeth Health Center for the care given to Mr. Bettile.

Homer A. Cleaves Jr., 67

WARREN – Homer A. Cleaves Jr., 67, of Copeland Ave. N.W., entered peacefully into the Lord’s arms on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at 1:50 a.m. at his residence surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness.

Homer was born the son of the late Homer A. Sr. and Susan (Hrimnack) Cleaves on March 6, 1941 in Warren and had been a resident of Champion since 1966.

He was a graduate of Lordstown High School, Class of 1960, and retired as an electrical assembler in November of 2007 with the Astro Technical Services in Warren.

Homer was a member of the Harvest Christian Assembly of God Church in Howland and enjoyed camping and fishing with his family.

On Aug. 3, 1963, Homer was united in marriage with Dolores A. (Fuchilla) Cleaves and spent 45 loving years together.

Memories of Homer will be remembered and cherished by his wife, Dolores; son, Charles (Beverly) Cleaves of Howland; daughter, Michele Cleaves of Cortland; sisters, Susan Walters of Lordstown and Claudia Laurenzi of Parma; four grandchildren, Zachary, Michael, Catherine and Micheline; five nephews; and four nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and faithful companion dog, Missy.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home in Warren, where the family will receive and greet friends today, Oct. 6, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald Biehl.

Mary K. Hodak, 95

NORTH LIMA - Mary K. Hodak, 95, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, in North Lima.

Mary was born Oct. 9, 1912 in Martins Ferry, the daughter of Joseph and Manda Hodak.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Youngstown.

Mary leaves a daughter, Donna (Frank) Sokol of North Lima; three grandchildren, Lisa Sokol of Oregon City, Ore., Frank G. (Irene) Sokol of San Antonio and John M. (Jeanne) Sokol of Boardman; four great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Gregory F. Hodak; three sisters, Ann Anthony, Helen Hodak, and Rose Listh; and two brothers, Anthony Hodak and Edward Hodak.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 421 Covington St. in Youngstown.

Dr. Charles W. Kirkpatrick, 61

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home for Dr. Charles W. Kirkpatrick, 61, who passed away suddenly Friday.

Chuck was born Sept. 25, 1947 in Youngstown, the son of Charles W. and Edna Dahman Kirkpatrick Sr. As a boy, his family relocated to Baltimore. After the death of his father, the family returned to Youngstown.

Chuck graduated from Wilson High School and received a scholarship to study English at Case Western Reserve University. He began his professional career as an English instructor at Shaw High School in East Cleveland. He later studied dentistry at Harvard Medical School and was for a time on the faculty at Case Western Reserve before starting a pediatric dental practice in Parkersburg, W.Va. After retiring from dentistry, Chuck returned to Youngstown and worked in the hotel and communications industries.

A very learned and intellectual man, Chuck was interested in literature, science, history and politics. He enjoyed playing baseball in his youth and followed the sport his entire life. He was proud of the achievements and accomplishments of his children and was a true and devoted friend.

He leaves to mourn his passing his children, Dr. Aaron (Heidi) Kirkpatrick of San Antonio, Texas, and Meredith Kirkpatrick of Greenville, S.C.; two grandchildren, Abraham Kirkpatrick and Aliza Kirkpatrick of San Antonio; his mother of Austintown; two brothers, Ken (Jan) Kirkpatrick of Cleveland and Bob (Joyce) Kirkpatrick of Girard; two sisters, Lynda (Jeff) Barr of Charlotte, N.C., and Patty (Sean) Durina of Austintown; his former wife and friend, Mary Ellen Kirkpatrick of Kentucky; and his dear friend, Linda Porter of Youngstown.

Friend may call from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.

Cloma Hope Martin, 98

AUSTINTOWN – Cloma Hope Martin, 98, passed away at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at her home.

Cloma was born March 29, 1910 in Wadsworth, the fifth child of 11, of the late Oscar and Lucy Nicodemus.

She was a 1928 graduate of Wadsworth High School, then a Kent State University graduate in 1930, after taking a two year teacher training course, then graduated from Youngstown College with a bachelor of science degree in education in 1963.

She began her teaching career in Wadsworth, where her first teaching job was in the first room, where she had been a student.

After moving to Austintown, she substituted at Fitch School, then to North Jackson where she taught first grade for seven years during WWII, where she could teach substitute level only because women could not have a teaching contract. She then went to Howland Schools, where she taught first grade for 22 years, retiring in 1973 after teaching 32 years. While there, she was a member of the Howland Teacher’s Association and served as a building representative. She was a Jennings Scholar receiving the Martha Holden Jennings Scholarship Award in 1967 for Excellence in Teaching.

Cloma was a faithful member of the Austintown Community Church receiving recognition for 50 year’s membership several years ago. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau and the Republican Women and worked for years on the Board of Elections at the voting polls. For many years, she canvassed the neighborhoods for the heart and cancer funds and March of Dimes.

She joined the Kiwaniqueens in 1961 serving on several committees. She was a member of the Eastern Star Meander Chapter Lodge 583 serving as a page and received her 50 year pin. She was a lifetime member of The Ohio Education Association, the National Education Association and a member of the Howland Retired Teachers, the Austintown Retired Teachers and the Mahoning County Retired Teachers. She also belonged to The Three Arts Club and to a group called The Lunch Bunch.

After her retirement, she enjoyed doing ceramics for all of her family members and friends, traveling, ballroom dancing; belonging to a couples dance club; and continued memberships in all of the organizations mentioned above.

All of Cloma’s sisters, as well as her mother, husband, two daughters and a grandson have been teachers, 11 in all.

Her husband, Hudson S. Martin, whom she married March 29, 1931, preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1990, after 59 years of marriage.

She leaves two daughters, Marilyn Hess of Columbiana and Nancy (Roger) Slagle of Freemont; four grandchildren, Randy Hess, Darlene (Joe) Zitnik, Tom Heubel and Sharon Heubel (Henry) Russell; seven great-grandchildren, Eric Hess, Justin, Kelly and Kayla Heubel, Robert Edwards, and Sherise and Sheliqua Heubel, and a great-great-granddaughter, Kaydence Heubel.

She is also survived by two sisters, Opal Christopher of Santa Rosa, Calif., and June Davis of Twinsburg; and a brother, Harold Nicodemus of Medina.

Besides her parents and husband, Cloma was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Heaverin, Ethel Fisher and Evelyn Nicodemus; and three brothers, Farlin, Carroll, and Park Nicodemus.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorials take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley or to the Austintown Community Church.

Eleanor K. Nestor, 82

SILVER LAKE, OHIO - Eleanor K. Nestor, 82, died Oct. 5, 2008.

Born in Youngstown, she had been an area resident since 1956 and was a longtime member of Holy Family Parish and its bereavement ministry, and also served as a Eucharistic minister. Eleanor was a member of Stow Women’s Club, Widow and Widowers Group and numerous bridge clubs in the Silver Lake-Stow area. An active member of the GriefCare Place, she had been the volunteer coordinator for several years.

Preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 1991, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James P. Jr. and Antoinette Nestor of Indiana, Pa.; grandchildren James J. (Beth) and Thomas P. Nestor; sisters Elizabeth Kunzer and Dorothy Murphy, and brother Jack Knapik.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish in Stow, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time.

Burial will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.

Eileen Polovischak, 78

STRUTHERS – Eileen Polovischak, 78, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 4, 2008, at The Hampton Woods Retirement Center, where she had been a resident for two months. She previously resided at Struthers Manor.

Mrs. Polovischak was born Sept. 20, 1930 in Youngstown, the daughter of Beatrice Gibbons Varley and John Varley. Her mother passed away when Eileen was an infant. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Bridget and James Gibbons.

She attended Ursuline High School and was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

On Aug. 9, 1948, she married Andrew Polovischak, also of Youngstown, and together they spent many happy years together until his untimely death Dec. 12, 1982.

Eileen leaves to cherish her memory her son, Andrew (Beth) Polovischak Jr. and her daughter, Patricia A. (Joseph) Kochamba of Poland; and her granddaughter, Kelly (Aaron) Hayes of Pittsburgh. She will truly be missed by them, but they take comfort in the thought that she will forever smile upon them.

Eileen was known for being a wonderful mother, grandmother, and true friend. She relished each of those positions. Her granddaughter, Kelly, was the true joy of her life, and Kelly felt that her grandmother was her best friend. Eileen also loved to cook, and part of her will live on through her famous recipes.

Mrs. Polovischak was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, John Varley.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McVean, Hughes & McClurkin Funeral Home, 711 Wick Avenue in Youngstown.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Sacred Heart Church in Youngstown.

Her family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Hampton Woods for the loving care they showed Eileen during the final chapter of her life.

David Michael Senchak, 46

FENTON, MICH. – David Michael Senchak, 46, formerly of Youngstown, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, in Fenton.

David was born Oct. 1, 1961 in Youngstown, a son of Michael and Mary Lou Tumpak Senchak.

He was a graduate of Holy Name Elementary School and a 1979 graduate of Ursuline High School. He attended Youngstown State University and graduated from St. Elizabeth’s School of Radiologic Technology as a certified radiologic technician.

David continued his education by earning a bachelor of applied science degree from the School of Applied Health at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich. and a master’s degree in business administration from Lake Erie College.

He also was a graduate of Leadership Flint, Class of 1998.

David began his career at Universal Consultants, a privately held radiology service in Ohio, and later became director of radiology at Alliance Community Hospital. He joined McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, Mich. in 1995 as an administrator of various services and subsequently was promoted to chief operating officer. He was most recently employed at Crowne Point Endoscopy and Surgery Center in Flint as chief operating officer. He also served as a board member of Greater Flint Community Child Care.

Dave’s favorite past time was fishing, but he also enjoyed playing golf and was an avid sports fan.

He leaves his parents, Michael and Mary Lou Senchak, of Youngstown; his wife, Ann Marie Kolesar Senchak and his children, Anthony and Alexis Rose Senchak of Flushing, Mich.; a brother, Michael S. (Jean) Senchak of Canfield; a sister, Patricia (Nick) DeMain of Austintown; a brother, Ronald (JoAnn) Senchak of Cary, N.C.; and nieces and nephews, Kimberly Berg, Michael R. Senchak, Nicholas DeMain, Dana DeMain, Ignatius Senchak, Angelina Senchak, and Ella Senchak.

A memorial service for David will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at the Holy Name of Jesus Church, 613 N. Lakeview Ave. in Youngstown, where family and friends may gather from 9 to 10 a.m. to offer condolences.

Memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to the American Heart Association, 840 Southwestern Run, Poland, OH 44514.

Angela Anness Tomasko

BOARDMAN – The Rite of Christian Burial will be said Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for Angela Anness Tomasko.

Angela leaves behind her parents, Theresa and Tom Anness of Liberty; her husband of 16 years, Mark; her two sons, Zachary and Nicholas, who gave her continued strength to live her life to the fullest every day; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Betsy (Leonetti) Anness of Kirtland, Tony Anness of Bonita, Fla., and Mike and Jeena (Pitts) Anness of Liberty; her four nieces, Paulina, Isabel, Cecilia and Sophia, who were the rays of sunshine that shined so brightly in her life even among the rainy days and who most affectionately called her “Auntie;” and many extended family and friends.

Angela was the life of every gathering. The needs of her family and friends always came before what she had to deal with in her own life. She will be terribly missed by everyone, but her spirit will continue to live on, and the memories will never be forgotten.
