Eva Bobala, 93

NORTH LIMA – There will be at 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, July 1 at St. Michael Church, 281 Glenview Drive in Canfield, for Eva Bobala, 93, who passed away Saturday afternoon, June 28.

Eva was born March 22, 1915 in San Benedetto, Italy, the daughter of Vincenzo and Carmele (Caruso) Saturnino. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing in the card club with her friends.

Her husband, Louis L. Bobala, whom she married in Sept. of 1940, passed away in July of 1982.

She will always be remembered by her loving nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Carmele Ruscello and Michelina Bisio; and her brother, Daniel Saturnino.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

The family would also like to thank the doctors and staff at The Assumption Village for their compassionate care given to Eva during her time there.

Roger A. Bumgardner, 64

NORTH JACKSON – Roger A. Bumgardner, 64, passed away Saturday morning at his home.

He was born March 19, 1944 in Hartford, a son of the late George A. and Mary L. (McHenry) Bumgardner.

He was a tow motor operator for General Refractories in Champion until 1994 and retired from Kaufman’s in North Jackson.

Roger enjoyed watching NASCAR, woodworking, playing cards, cheering for the Cleveland Browns, and attending car shows.

He is survived by his wife, the former Linda Treharne, whom he married Aug. 1, 1981; one daughter, Tracy Bumgardner and her fiance, DJ Kirtley of North Jackson; two sisters, Lucille Baldwin of Phoenix and Leona Derr of Orangeville, Pa.; and one brother, Ted (Nancy) Bumgardner of Warren.

Besides his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a son, Roger Albert Bumgardner Jr.; and a sister, Olive Schank.

Family will receive friends at their home, 2135 S. Duck Creek Road, North Jackson, OH 44451 from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Randy L. “Tank” Fink, 51

WARREN – Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Randy L. “Tank” Fink, 51, who died Saturday morning in Trumbull Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Randy was born Sept. 4, 1956 in Youngstown the son of Lester and Marcia (Handwork) Fink and moved to Warren from Austintown 23 years ago.

Randy retired from Packard Electric in 2006, where he had worked over 20 years. He was a design engineer. He also had 20 U.S. Patents and two Defensive Publications, was a Bronze member of the Delphi Inventors Hall of Fame and a member of the Delphi Packard Wall of Fame. He was a long time member of the Austintown Baptist Church, graduate of Fitch High School in 1974 and coached Little Falcon Football for two years.

He is survived by his mother, Marcia of Austintown; brothers, Roger (Tina) Fink of Coitsville, and Richard (Debby) Fink of Austintown; four nieces; two nephews; six great-nieces; three great-nephews; his companion, Pauline Krepps and her two children; and four grandchildren.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Lester.

Melvin D. Gregory Sr., 81

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday at the First Calvary Baptist Church for Melvin D. Gregory Sr., 81, who departed this life Thursday at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mr. Gregory was born Feb. 6, 1927 in Youngstown, a son of James and Mary L. Austin Gregory.

He had worked for Republic Steel and Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. He was an honorary deacon and trustee of Ebenezer Baptist Church and also a member of the male chorus.

Mr. Gregory served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He leaves his children, Melvin (Sharine) Gregory Jr., Charles (Sharron) Butler, Marietta Dumas and Ivory (Charles) Jones, all of Youngstown, Renee Neal of Elgin, Ill., and Thomas (Joellen) Rudolph of Beaver Falls, Pa.; sister-in-law Lillian Gregory of Youngstown; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Alfonzo and Austin Gregory.

Viewing will be from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Charles “Card” L. Smith, 53

MINERVA – A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel for Charles “Card” L. Smith, 53, who passed away Thursday June 19, 2008.

Card was born Feb. 23, 1955 in New Castle, Pa., the son of Robert and Barbara Gurtner Smith.

Card was a 1973 graduate of Poland High School. He was a structural iron worker Local No. 207.

Card leaves a daughter, Carrie Campbell of Struthers; a son, Julian Smith of Boardman; and four brothers, Robert (Shirley) Smith of Poland, Roger Smith of Shenango, Pa. William (Kathy) Smith of Lowellville, and Donald (Theresa) Smith of Washingtonville.

Card was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

John F. “Jack” Sullivan, 79

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at Saint Christine Church for John F. “Jack” Sullivan, 79, who died Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.

Mr. Sullivan was born Jan. 23, 1929, in New Castle, Pa., a son of William and Sara Joyce Sullivan and was raised from a very young age by his aunt, Nell Joyce. He was a 1946 graduate of New Castle High School and moved to the Youngstown area in 1959.

Jack had a lifelong career in the grocery industry with such companies as Libby Foods, McClay Food Brokerage, was a buyer for Tamarkin Company and Giant Eagle and retired in 1991 as Director of Merchandising for the Phar-Mor Company.

He was a member of the GMRY (Grocery Manufacturer Representatives of Youngstown). Jack loved golf ( scoring 3 Hole in Ones in his career), was an avid reader and a lifelong Notre Dame fan.

Jack served in the Army Reserves of New Castle and was a member of the 101 Airborne Division.

Jack was the proud father of five children and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Irene, whom he married Sept. 10, 1950; four sons, Tom (Judi) Sullivan of Poland, John (Kim) Sullivan of Petersburg, Jim (Joann) Sullivan of Hubbard, and Ron Sullivan of Poland; a daughter, Maureen (Chuck ) Pusch of Austintown; and seven grandchildren, Tim Sullivan, Michael Sullivan, Shannon Pusch, Ron Sullivan, Ryan Sullivan, Hailey Sullivan and Logan Sullivan.

Besides his parents and Aunt Nell, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Sullivan; and a granddaughter, Shelby Rose Pusch.

The Sullivan family would like to send special thanks to St. Elizabeth’s 8 South Intermediate Care Staff for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial tributes be given in Jack’s name to Fellows Riverside Gardens at 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown, OH 44509.

Richard M. “Dutch” Venorsky, 73

AUSTINTOWN – Richard M. Venorsky, 73, passed away late Saturday afternoon, June, 28, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Richard, who was nicknamed “Dutch” as a child, was born Jan. 28, 1935 in Youngstown, a son of the late John S. and Edna C. Kostecki Venorsky, and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Venorsky was a 1953 graduate of The Rayen School, and was self-employed with Jack Rabbit Excavating Company for 38 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Austintown.

Dick was also a professional musician and played guitar and banjo for many local polka bands. He was a past officer for the Musicians Union in Warren and Youngstown.

Besides music, he enjoyed golf and, most importantly, enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Dick was a big fan of NASCAR, a passion he shared with his grandson, and his passion for music was shared with his granddaughter.

Dutch will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Venorsky leaves his wife of 47 years, Antonia “Toni” Esposito Venorsky, whom he married Oct. 22, 1960; a daughter, Lisa Wood and son-in-law, Gregory, of Austintown; a grandson, Matt; a granddaughter, Tori; a sister-in-law, Grace Venorsky of Canfield; and a brother-in-law, Louis Esposito of West Pittsburgh, Pa.

Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, John P. “Jack” Venorsky.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, and continue at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church.

Committal services will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
