William E. “Bill” Hall, 84

EAST PALESTINE – William E. “Bill” Hall, 84, of Bacon Avenue, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at Parkside Health Care Center in Columbiana.

Bill was born Aug. 5, 1924 in East Palestine, the son of the late Earl and Viva Dyke Hall and was a lifelong resident of East Palestine.

He graduated from East Palestine High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator in Le Havre, France during WWII.

Mr. Hall was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, where he had served as a trustee.

He had worked for the City of East Palestine as an electrical lineman, National Rubber Machinery in Columbiana as an electrical draftsman, Vestal Laboratories and the East Palestine School District.

He was a former member of the East Palestine Board of Health and served as the Health Commissioner, registered sanitarian, local registrar and chairman. He was a former member of the Unity Ruritan, the East Palestine Amateur Radio Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed raising flowers, woodworking and antique cars.

A kind, gentle and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, he will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Chapman) Hall, whom he married June 2, 1950; his sons, William E. (Bill) Hall Jr. and family friend, Candy Lee, of Charlotte, N.C. and Jeffrey (Lisa) Hall of East Palestine; a daughter, Patty (Tom) Foster of East Palestine; a brother, Robert (Sally) Hall of East Palestine; four grandchildren, Dan (Sarah) Hall and Laura (Matt) Gillam of New Waterford, Laney Foster of Hamilton and Logan Foster of East Palestine; two great-grandsons, Ethan and Caleb Hall of New Waterford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Brown and a half-brother, Clayton Dyke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home in East Palestine with the Reverend David Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Glenview Cemetery in East Palestine, where military honors will be accorded by the Honor Guard from the American Legion and VFW.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be given to the Centenary United Methodist Church, 40 S. Market St., East Palestine, OH 44413.

Jacqueline Daley Henry, 76

RALEIGH, N.C. – Jacqueline Daley Henry, 76, passed from this earth on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Cary WakeMed after a brief but heroic battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born in Youngstown on May 29, 1932, the daughter of John and Helen Daley.

She was predeceased by her sister, Kaye Willis.

A resident of Raleigh, she was an award-winning gardener and an active member of the Raleigh Garden Club, serving as recording secretary and participating in the horticulture group. She was also a member of the Herb Society of Wake County.

An active parishioner at St. Andrews Parish, she served on the Activities Committee and was a Eucharistic Minister to the Homebound.

In her spare time, Jackie raised a husband and nine children. She is survived by her adoring husband of 52 incredible years, James Kenneth Henry, a son of Sylvester and Marie Henry; her children, Teresa Williamson, David Henry, Steven Henry, Mary Yildiz, Mark Henry, Susan Ferraro, Scott Henry, Jason Henry and Keith Henry; and 16 grandchildren.

Her kind heart and gracious manner touched a multitude of friends. Her family was her true love and passion and they will all miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Church in Apex, N.C. A celebration of her life will follow in the Fellowship Hall at St. Andrews from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Letha E. Miller, 90

AVON, IND. – Letha E. Miller, 90, formerly of New Springfield and Columbiana, passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at her home in Avon, where she resided with her sister, niece and nephew. She had just recently moved there from Columbiana.

Letha was born July 7, 1918 to Dallas and Eva (Seidner) Wentz.

Letha was retired as a secretary from Kenmar Manufacturing in 1983 after 42 years of service.

Mrs. Miller was preceded in death on Feb. 11, 1979, by her husband, Albert Miller, whom she married July 27, 1938.

Survivors include a sister, Pearl (Glenn) Rauch, with whom she made her home, and she also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters Helen Wentz and Dora Schwab and brothers Russell, Norman, Paul and Harry Wentz.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima, with Rev. Steve Fortenberry offficiating.

Burial will be in New Springfield Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima.

Vaughn Lee “Tiny” Myers II, 61

NILES – Vaughn Lee “Tiny” Myers II, 61, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born July 28, 1947 to the late Vaughn Lee and Aura Jean (Featsent) Myers in Youngstown.

He began his career at Wheatland Tube Co. in Pennsylvania in 1973 and retired in 2002.

Tiny was a 1965 Chaney High School graduate, where he served on the Reunion Planning Committee. He was also a member of the Shenango Valley Corvette Club and loved spending time at Granny’s Cycle in Warren. In addition to being an avid Harley Davidson and Corvette enthusiast, Vaughn enjoyed playing and collecting bass guitars and watching college football.

He was a devoted father, a loyal friend and an engaging storyteller. His personality and charisma would illuminate a room.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Stephanie Rose of Akron; a son, Vaughn Lee III of Niles; and fiancee, Terri Ramsey of Niles and her children, Katie, Quinton, Spencer and Jordana. He will be dearly missed by a host of family members and close friends, including his former wife, Christine (Jakiela) Myers, Gary Mohn, Dennis “Stich” Husk and Jack Wesneski.

Family and friends are welcome to visit on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home, 672 Churchill Road in Girard.

Sigrid Staudacher, 71

NILES – A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church in Mineral Ridge for Sigrid Staudacher, 71, who died Saturday afternoon at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.

She was born Jan. 8, 1938, in Friedberg, Germany, the daughter of Ernst and Martha (Artman) Kunz, and she came to the U.S. in 1957.

She worked for Park Avenue Maintenance in Warren for several years cleaning offices and doing other janitorial duties until her retirement last year.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and its Women’s Group. She enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, cooking and gardening, but her greatest love was her family, and especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, William J. Staudacher, whom she married June 1, 1985; a son, Daniel (Valerie) Staudacher of Flower Mound, Texas; two daughters, Carla Hodge of Millerton, Pa. and Michelle (Doug) Douthit of Tucson, Ariz.; and five grandchildren, Mindy (Richard) Reed of Scottsdale, Ariz., David Staudacher of Flower Mound and Tyler, Trevor and Tanner Hodge of Millerton, Pa. She also leaves a brother, Ernst “Harry” Kunz Jr. of Friedberg, Germany; and five sisters, Marie Lucke of Friedberg, Melitta (Wesley) Browning of Leavenworth, Kan., Gisela Benoit of Leominister, Mass., Waltraud (Ernie) Pina of Chula Vista, Calif. and Angelika (Howard) Woods of Hagerstown, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Heinrich, Otto, Willy and Ralph Kunz; and two sisters, Erica Gabsa and Annelise Johnson.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home, Niles Chapel.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to everyone at St. Joseph Health Center and the Hospice Unit for all of the kind and compassionate care they gave to Sigrid.
