Mildred Allen, 88
YOUNGSTOWN Services will be Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mrs. Mildred Allen, 88, who departed this life Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Mrs. Allen was born Sept. 8, 1920 in Akron, a daughter of Obie and Cordie Bivins.
As a young adult, she moved to Miami, where she met and married Andrew Allen on Nov. 4, 1949. Together they journeyed back North, where they settled in Youngstown and began their family.
Mildred had been employed as an elevator operator at the Realty Building and a manager at Als Restaurant in Youngstown. She was an avid churchgoer. She was a former deaconess at the Tabernacle Baptist Church and a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Mahoning Shenango Baptist Association. She was active in the various churches in which her husband pastored.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her beloved husband, the Rev. Andrew Allen; two loving children, her daughter Dorine and youngest son Reggie; five grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Andrew Jr. and Michael; a stillborn daughter; and a half sister, Winifred Lash.
Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Louise Blough, 73
STRUTHERS Louise Blough, 73, died Wednesday evening at her daughters residence in Poland.
Louise was born July 31, 1935 in Struthers, a daughter of Carmen and Mary Climaco Petrella and lived in Struthers all of her life.
A 1954 graduate of Struthers High School, Louise was a sales associate for K-mart for over 20 years and then for Staples for the past seven years. She was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers.
Louise loved slot machines and trips to Mountaineer, and especially enjoyed her annual Mothers Day trip to Mountaineer with her children. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Her husband, Donald Blough, whom she married July 30, 1955, died March 9, 2001.
She leaves two daughters, Doreen (Anthony) Ghioldi of Canfield and Brenda (Jim) Calai of Poland; one son, Tommy (Gena) Blough of Struthers; three sisters, Ruby Yacavone of Cortland, N.Y. and Connie Coss and Mary Petrella, both of Struthers; two brothers, Dominic Petrella and Carmen Petrella, both of Struthers; eight grandchildren, Anthony (fiance Elia) Ghioldi, Carlie (Steve) Sherhag, Jessica (Rick) Fusselman, Lyndsey (Jason) West, Bryan Calai, Brittany Calai, Kaeleigh Blough and Kolten Blough; and a great-grandson, Dominik Calai.
Besides her parents and husband, Louise was preceded in death by two sisters, Marge Manfredi and Ann Coggi.
Louises family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the wonderful care provided by Dr. Timothy Barreiro.
Services will be Saturday at 9:45 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

Juanita Boatner, 80
FARRELL, PA. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joseph Davis, pastor, officiating, for Juanita Boatner, 80, of 2036 Landay Lane. She passed away at 3:52 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Mrs. Boatner was born Aug. 2, 1928 in Sharon, Pa. to Nellion and E. Louise Edmunston Ponder.
A 1946 graduate of Farrell High School, she attended Youngstown State Universitys Dana School of Music.
Mrs. Boatner was employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., Sharon Country Club, the former G.C. Murphy Co. in Farrell and General Motors Lordstown (Ohio) car assembly plant.
As a faithful member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Farrell, Mrs. Boatner was a church mother, served on the nominating committee, was a deaconess and a former choir director and church pianist.
She was a lifelong Shenango Valley resident and in her youth was a majorette with the Twin City Elks Band in Farrell. Mrs. Boatner was a former avid bowler and served as a guest soloist in various area churches.
Her husband of 61 years, Harry A. Boatner Sr., whom she married Oct. 10, 1947, survives at home. Also surviving is a daughter, Beverly Johnson and her husband, Frederick of Hermitage, Pa.; three sons, Harry A. Boatner Jr. and Richard N. Boatner and his companion, Michele, all of New Castle, Pa. and Gary Boatner of Oklahoma City; two sisters, LaVerne Ellerbe of Farrell and Carol Ponder of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She also leaves several cousins, including Ivee Jo Roach; several nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends; her very close friends, Barbara Jordan, Martha Richards, Helen Mitchell and Charlotte Pegues; a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Toby Jackson of Hermitage; a son-in-law, Levon Barlow Sr. of Farrell; a sister-in-law, Geneva Young; and a brother-in-law, Cicero Jackson and his wife, Nina.
Mrs. Boatner was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marcia Lynne Barlow; and two brothers, Nellion Ponder Jr. and Wendell Leon Ponder.
Calling hours will be Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilbert L. Shannon Funeral Home, 33 Broadway Ave. in Wheatland, Pa. and Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Friendship Baptist Church, 339 Spearman Ave. in Farrell.

Helen A. Kalic Boyarko, 92
BLOOMFIELD, N.J. Helen A. Kalic Boyarko, 92, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009.
Helen was born in Youngstown, and also spent many years in Struthers.
She was the beloved wife of the late Nick Boyarko Sr.; devoted mother of Nick Boyarko Jr., Penny Whitney and her husband Don, and Eddie Boyarko; loving grandmother of Kim, Nick III, Christine, Brant, Don, Marie, and Eddie Jr.; and cherished great-grandmother of Jordan, Cydney, Nick IV, Annie, Kierstan, and Jack. Helen, along with her husband.
She owned and operated the Nebo Tavern and the Walton Bar in Struthers, as well as the White Arch and The Drift Inn of Youngstown.
Funeral services will be private.

Carmela Ferrelli
AUSTINTOWN Carmela Ferrelli died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2009.
She was the daughter of the late Derno and Evelyn (Berarducci) Ferrelli. She was born Oct. 18, 1937 in Youngstown.
She leaves a brother, Guy (Connie) Ferrelli; nephew, Daniel Ferrelli; niece, Suzette (Dominic) Rizzi; great-nephews, Michael and Jonathan Rizzi; and great-niece, Briana Rizzi. She also leaves three aunts, Connie Ciolli, of Warren, Annette Candella of Columbus and Dora (Joe) Cercone and many cousins.
She resided at Briarfield Nursing Home at Ashley Circle in Austintown.
Her parents were charter members of the Mahoning County Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, which Carmela attended her entire life, since grade school. She currently attended The Center at Javitt Court, and had previously been employed by MASCO.
Calling hours will be Friday, Feb. 20, at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Curtis of the First United Methodist Church of Mineral Ridge.
Arlene (McNicholas) Boyle Flynn, 74
WARREN There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Marys Church with celebrant Fr. Bernard R. Schmalzried, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. service at the Peter Rossi & Sons Memorial Chapel for Arlene (McNicholas) Boyle Flynn, 74, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Feb. 19, 2009.
Arlene was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 21, 1934, the second child of the late James and Nora and sister to James and Eugene, both deceased.
In 1971, she moved with her loving husband, John Joseph Boyle, from Connecticut to Warren, where they raised their five children. John died July 23, 1985. Arlene was blessed to find love again when she married William Flynn Jr. on May 27, 2001.
Arlene retired as the treasurer to the Trumbull County Joint Vocational School. She remained an active educator, volunteering her time to SCOPE with tax preparation for the elderly within the community. In addition to her service as a member of the Warren area, Arlene was also an active participant in the community surrounding her much loved summer cottage on Long Lake near the Pocono Mountains in Northeast Pennsylvania.
Family, friends and visitors will always hold dear memories of their time with Arlene on the lake and her ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. Her passion for travel, literature, politics and her family were well known. Arlene will be remembered for her humor, insight and her ability to find the good in everyone.
She was the beloved wife of William Flynn; devoted and adored mother to Jennifer (Frank) Beck, Jacqueline (Tim Lanza) Boyle, Theresa (Michael) Criscione, John (Patricia) Boyle and Arlene (Todd) Ferraro; loving and cherished nana to Lauren, Timothy and Thomas Beck, Simone Boyle, Sophia Lanza, Elizabeth Criscione, Christopher, Tavish, Blair, and Cagney Boyle, Dillon Grace, Chase Russell and John Jack Joseph Ferraro; dedicated and admired stepmother to William Flynn and Tara (Herman) Breuer; and caring and loved nana to Bailey and Emily Breuer.
Besides her parents, first husband, and siblings, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Bailey Boyle.
She will always be with us in our hearts and prayers and the legacy she leaves us with are the lives of her devoted family, friends and acquaintances, all of whom were made richer by her time with them.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel in Warren.
Her burial will take place at Pleasant Mount, Pa., near her lake house Memorial Day weekend.

Michael J. Folsom, 44
BOARDMAN Michael J. Folsom, 44, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Hospice House.
Mike was born March 6, 1964 in Youngstown, the son of Clay and Michaelene Terpack Folsom.
He was an avid hiker and hiked the Appalachian Trail. Mike was a very bright man, who was technology savvy and loved to build his own computers.
He leaves his life partner, William Billy Kelley of Charlotte, N.C.; three cousins, Alfred Jenney of Cudjoe, Fla., Jean Patellis of Middlefield and Sharon Lyons of Sayerbrook; his dear friend, Carol Krosby Jenney of Cocoa, Fla.; and his golden retriever, London.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clay Folsom, who was the Director of Curriculum at the Youngstown City Schools and his mother, Michaelene Folsom, who was an Instructor of Speech Therapy at YSU.
There will be no calling hours or services.

George Miller, 84
NORTH LIMA Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman for George Miller, 84, who died Thursday morning at Hospice House. He passed away after a short illness with the love of his life, Esther Kaluza, at his side.
Mr. Miller was born March 27, 1924, in New Castle, Pa., the son of Michael and Helen Sieric Miller, and was an area resident for most of his life.
He was a graduate of Warren Harding High School and YSU. He worked many years as an accountant, owned Miller Motors car lot on Wick Avenue from 1978 to 1983 and was co-owner of the Sandwich World on Youngstown-Poland Road with Esther, from 1984 to 1999.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Esther Kaluza; her children, Anna Kaluza Fitzgerald of North Lima and Joseph (Lisa) Kaluza of Youngstown; grandchildren, Jason and Tyler Fitzgerald and Joshua and Tiffany Kaluza; a great-grandchild, Dezarae Lynn Fitzgerald; and a stepbrother, Michael Koscak of Sarasota, Fla.
Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

William J. Mullen
YOUNGSTOWN William J. Mullen, passed away at his home early Wednesday morning, Feb. 18, 2009.
William was born in Youngstown, the son of Frank and Anna (Carney) Mullen.
He was a member of St. Columba Cathedral.
He was a graduate of The Ohio State University and a WWII Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre.
He retired as vice president of Hynes Industries, after 37 years with the company. He was chapter chairman and board member of The American Red Cross, Mahoning Chapter, president and board member of Assumption Nursing Home. He served on the Catholic Charities Advisory Board and was chairman and board member of the Catholic Service League. He was president of Local Chapter and International vice president of the Childrens International Summer Villages. He was a board member and vice president of the Youngstown Area Chamber of Commerce. He served on the board of the Youngstown Area Urban League, was board member and president of the Youngstown Playhouse, and was a trustee for the Hynes Finnigan Foundation.
William married Rose Ann Buston on Nov. 29, 1952.
Besides his wife, Rose Ann, he is survived by two sons, William J. Mullen Jr. of Urbana and J. Brian Mullen of New York City; one daughter, Mary Anne Fox of Evansville, Ind.; two sisters, Rita Fagan of Cleveland and Ann Theresa Jacobs of Boardman. He also leaves seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, with whom he was close.
William was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Mullen; and two sisters, Coletta Slivka and Catherine Marsden.
A funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral.
Calling hour will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at St. Columba Cathedral.
The family request that memorial contribution be made to St. Columba Cathedral in his name.

Robert D. Patella Jr., 34
BOARDMAN There will be services at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home for Robert D. Patella Jr., 34, who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Valley Renaissance Healthcare Center.
He was born May 15, 1974 in Youngstown, the son of Robert D. Sr. and Susan (Uhlar) Patella.
Robert had been employed at Giant Eagle in Boardman and Poland and was also a Retail Representative for Crossmark in San Diego.
He was a 1992 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Robert enjoyed music and was an avid baseball and football fan, especially of the New York Yankees and Oakland Raiders.
He bought and sold classic cars and collected vintage baseball cards. He will always be remembered by his mom, Sue of Boardman; his maternal grandparents, Steve and Lucy Uhlar; his godfather, Uncle Steve Uhlar; his uncles and aunt, Dan and Joanne Patella and Anthony Ciccotelli; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bob Patella Sr.; his aunt, Charlotte Ciccotelli; and paternal grandparents, Chester and Lucille Patella.

Rocky N. Prezioso Sr., 80
NILES Rocky N. Prezioso Sr., 80, of 532 Robbins Ave., died at 8:35 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at his residence.
He was born May 23, 1928 in Niles, the son of Aniello and Assunta Villecco Prezioso.
He was a 1947 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a 1953 graduate of the Cleveland Barber College.
He owned and operated Rockys Barber Shop in downtown Niles and his current location on Robbins Avenue for 55 years.
He was a member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, Bagnoli Iripino Club, Niles Frontliners and the East End Athletic Club, where he played baseball for several years. He also sponsored several bowling and bocce league teams.
He enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing and boating with his son, Little Rocky.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War having served in Germany with the 2nd Battalion.
Rocky, who said It never rains on the golf course will be deeply missed by his wife, Rose Marie Mozzillo Prezioso, whom he married Aug. 31, 1968; a son, Rocky N. Prezioso Jr. and his wife, Deanna of Niles; a daughter, Michelle Forrest of Niles, a brother, Armand Prezioso and his wife, Evelyn of Niles; a sister, Connie Prezioso of Niles; two sisters-in-law, Angie Prezioso of Strongsville and Carmel Prezioso of Niles; two grandsons, Andrew Seger and his wife, Brittany and Shane Forrest; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony Ninny Prezioso and John Prezioso.

Rocky will be honored for his military service by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard, following the Mass of Christian Burial at the church

Robert Lamont Sadler, 82
SALEM Robert Lamont Sadler, 82, passed away on Feb. 12, 2009, after a long battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of Salem; a son, Lewis Lamont Sadler and wife Melissa of Fort Collins, Colo., and their children, Sara and husband Jeff Tidwell of Chicago, Heather and husband Evan Harding of Fort Collins and Joshua Sadler and Emily Sadler of Fort Collins; and two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Rhylee Harding. He is also survived by his second son, Robert Winn Sadler and his wife Rita of Miami, formerly of Youngstown. Additionally, Robert left a stepdaughter, Leslie Jo Costal and husband Richard and their four children of Salem.
Robert had retired after 31 years from General Motors in Hamilton, Flint, Mich., and Lordstown. Later he became a realtor in Goshen.
A service will be held in Cincinnati where Robert was born on Nov. 8, 1926.
