Nicholas Cioffi Jr., 59
WARREN Nicholas Cioffi Jr., 59, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at 8:30 a.m. at his home of a massive heart attack.
He was born on Sept. 17, 1949 in Warren, the son of Dominica Minnie Sellars Cioffi and the late Nick Cioffi.
Mr. Cioffi attended St. Mary Roman Catholic Church.
Nick was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and was retired from the Jamestown Giant Eagle as a laborer for 23 years. He then went to work as a laborer at DNK. Nick was an avid sports fan and a tremendous Notre Dame fan.
Survivors include his mother, Dominica Minnie Cioffi of Warren and several aunts, uncles and cousins in the Warren and Niles area.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Church on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Bernard Schmalzried officiating.
Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta Township.
Benjamin Felix Colangelo Sr., 76
POLAND Benjamin Felix Colangelo Sr., 76, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital.
Mr. Colangelo was born April 22, 1932 in Struthers, the son of Anthony and Mary Felice Colangelo.
He was a 1951 graduate of Struthers High School and worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 33 years.
Mr. Colangelo was a member of the Struthers Baptist Tabernacle, St. Lucys Club in Hillsville and the NRA. He enjoyed gardening. Mr. Colangelo was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.
He leaves his wife, the former Barbara Johnson, whom he married April 30, 1960; two sons, Anthony (Shari) Colangelo of Poland and Benjamin (Christina) Colangelo Jr. of Austintown; two daughters, Cathy Colangelo of Boardman and Joyce (Don) Shade of Tracy, Calif.; two sisters, Josephine (Frank) Rubino of Poland and Violet (Erminio) Malvestuto of Poland; one brother, Anthony C. Colangelo of Boardman; 10 grandchildren, Shawna (Ryan) Gains of Poland, Michael, Maria, Miranda, Brandon and Dylan Colangelo and Richie, Lee, Benny and John Shade; two nieces, Mary (Calvin) Pannunzio of Boardman and Theresa Malvestuto of Poland; three nephews, Joe (Toni) Malvestuto of Petersburg, Lou (Bonnie) Malvestuto of Struthers and Frank (Diane) Rubino of Poland; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher Colangelo and his niece, Gilda Brown.
Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

Esther Mae Conway, 63
BOARDMAN Services will be on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers for Esther Mae Conway, 63, who on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 21, the angels retrieved their sister for her heavenly journey home.
Esther Mae Conway passed away peacefully at Forum Health Northside Medical Center following a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis and other diseases. She was surrounded by family, friends and colleagues, who all knew her as a genuinely caring and giving soul. Her final gift was tissue samples to the Cleveland Clinic for the study of MS.
After graduation from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1964, Esther received an associate degree in dietary from Youngstown State University and supervised the kitchen at Diamond Head Nursing Home. She later graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and served as a nurse at Northside Hospitals Labor and Delivery Unit.
There were many patients and doctors who could attest to her tireless devotion to mothers and babies. She was the happiest when holding a healthy newborn and welcoming it to the world.
After retirement, she continued her commitment by training student nurses in nursing homes. She also learned American Sign Language and volunteered with the Easter Seals Society.
Esthers love also extended to animals, her rescued dog and cats. She was an ardent supporter of area animal shelters and did much to find homes for strays.
Esthers parents, Ardis M. (Lockhart) and Alvin C. Conway, both preceded her in death.
She is survived by a younger brother, Robert Franklin (Sharon) Conway. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a longtime companion, Claire Szalay.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in her name to the family for charities of Esthers choice.

Lena Grannie
SUNRISE, FLA. Lena Grannie passed away Feb. 20, 2009.
Born in New Jersey, she had been a south Florida resident since 1982, coming from Struthers.
Surviving is her son, John of Sebastian, Fla.; a daughter, Marlene Moran of Plantation, Fla.; and three sisters and a brother, Annie Balogh, Virginia Centofanti, Carmel Masterangelo and Dominick Carrocce.
A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at St. David Catholic Church in Davie, Fla. Interment will be at Hollywood Memorial Gardens East.

Kathryn Helen Gries, 89
BOARDMAN There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Christine Church in Youngstown with Rev. Peter Haladej officiating, preceded by a 10:45 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, for Kathryn Helen Gries, 89, who peacefully passed away on Sunday afternoon, Feb., 22, 2009.
Kathryn will always be remembered and loved for being a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend.
She was born Nov. 7, 1919 in Youngstown, the daughter of Thomas and Marie (Carney) Loftus and was a lifelong area resident.
Kathryn was a homemaker and attended The Rayen High School.
She was a member of St. Christine Church, its Altar and Rosary Society and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, where she earned the rank of Private First Class, and received the following decorations; the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Kathryn was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed playing cards, bingo, bowling and skating. She was a beautiful singer and was the first to sing at Stambaugh for WRMJ as Kay Lynn with Sammy Labree and Gentlemen of the Swing.
Her husband, Roy Bob Gries, whom she married June 7, 1947, died July 23, 1995.
She leaves behind to hold on to her memories her son Robert Bob Gries of Boardman; a daughter, Charlene Shane of Boardman; eight grandchildren, Deana (Ray) Housteau, Michael Shane, Mark (Shelli) Shane and Kaitlyn, Samantha, Eric, Kelly and Lindsay Gries; two stepgrandchildren, Jeff (Jamie) Hunter and Jennifer Hunter; and three great-grandchildren, Raegan Housteau and Natalie and Patrick Shane.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Gries; a daughter-in-law, Laurie Gries; a sister, Mary Louise Lamb; and three brothers, Jack, Jimmy and Tom Loftus.

YOUNGSTOWN There will be a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel for Patricia A. Jones, 64, who passed away Saturday at Select Specialty Hospital in Boardman.
Patricia was born Nov. 13, 1944 in Jerrysville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Virgil V. and Argola L. (Walker) Bennett.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Victory Assembly in East Palestine. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, going to car shows, genealogy, her flower garden and gospel music.
Patricia is survived by four children, Wilma (Stephen) Sylak of Canfield, Tina M. (John Farrar) Maynard of Struthers, Joeann M. (Bill) Colburn of McDonald and Joseph E. (Joy) Jones Jr. of Pulaski, Pa.; two sisters, Barbara (Lester) Cole of Youngstown, and Carolyn (Carl) Morrison of Atwater; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her former husband, Joseph Jones Sr. of McDonald; and her companion, James F. Noble of Youngstown.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Wanda Clark and Ramona Clark and one brother, Tom Bennett.

Neva G. Langley, 85
Together Again
HUBBARD Neva G. Langley, 85, died Sunday evening, Feb. 22, 2009, at Northside Hospital Medical Center.
She was born March 20, 1923 in Sharpsville, Pa., a daughter of Martin and Emmaline Mariah Wingard and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Langley, a homemaker, was formerly employed by Harvell in Hubbard. She enjoyed decorating her home, garage sales and auctions. Neva loved to travel, going to drive-in movies and cooking and feeding people.
Her husband, Russell L. Langley Sr., whom she married Jan. 8, 1941, died Nov. 14, 1990.
She leaves four sons, Joseph (Pat) Langley of Cortland, Russell (Lynn) Langley Jr. of Brookfield, Jerry (Barb) Langley of Masury and Dale (Diane) Langley of Kingman, Ariz.; three daughters, Bonny Wayland, Robin (Elmer) Takash and Candy (Tom) Foraker, all of Hubbard; two brothers, Bill Wingard of Greenville, Pa. and Jim Wingard of Sharon, Pa.; two sisters, Betty Black of Sharon and Anna Marie Putnam of Sharon; 24 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ruth Black and Sara First.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Martin Fred Leuzinger, 96
PETERSBURG Mr. Martin Fred Leuzinger, 96, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Boardman Campus.
He was born in Pittsburgh on March 23, 1912, the son of the late Martin and Lottie (Stewart) Leuzinger.
A high school graduate, Mr. Leuzinger went on to be employed by Cavanaugh Hardware, where he served as a salesman. Marty was a member of St Johns Lutheran Church in Petersburg and had been a Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen (Heaver) Leuzinger, whom he married on July 3, 1937 and would have celebrated 72 years of marriage this summer; and three great-grandchildren.
Marty was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Dunn and two grandchildren, Mr. Jay Bradshaw and Miss Michelle Bradshaw.
Family and friends are asked to join the family for visitation on Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Petersburg.
There will be funeral services at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

TWINSBURG Terry Lynn (Daigle) Mass, 51, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009.
She was the beloved wife of George A. Mass, dear mother of Erika Lynn (Jason) Tepsick and Ryan T. Weaver, stepmother of Andrea Mass and George A. Mass Jr.; daughter of Marilyn Z. (Fisher) and the late Lloyd G. Daigle, sister of Steven L. (Stephanie) Daigle, Kenneth A. (Barbara) Daigle and Daniel W. (Shelby) Daigle, aunt of four nephews and two nieces.

YOUNGSTOWN Funeral services will be today, Feb. 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home for Catherine Pachell, 96, who entered into rest Friday evening at St. Marys Alzheimer Center.
A daughter of Michael and Florence (Makear) Zatvarnicky, Catherine was born June 12, 1912, in Youngstown, formerly from the Westside.
She was employed at Ohio Leather Dryer Department for 40 years. She was a member of St. Brendans Church.
Her husband, Peter D. Pachell, whom she married in 1928, passed away in 1936.
Catherine will be sadly missed by many. She is survived by her brother, Pete (Minnie) Zatvarnicky of Girard; sister Helen Leko of Green Valley, Ariz.; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Pachell of Youngstown. She also leaves several neices and nephews behind.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter D. Pachell; her son, Peter D. Pachell; three brothers, Mike Zatvarnicky, Nick Zatvarnicky and John Zatvarnicky; and two sisters, Ann Tomaino and Ester Sklepko.

Stewart Alberto White Jr., 88
McDONALD Funeral services will be at 11:15 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Girard for Stewart A. White Jr., 88, who died late Saturday night.
Stewart was born Nov. 10, 1920 in Canton, and was the son of the late Stewart A. Sr. and Nellie (Taylor) White.
He was an accomplished carpenter all of his life working for MacCallister and Morgan and then later became self-employed. He retired in 1983 from Boilermakers Cleveland Local No. 744.
Stewart was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Girard for over 50 years.
He was wounded in Okinawa while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, First Division Third Battalion during WWII.
He was a pioneer in organizing the first Retarded Children Council in Trumbull County. He was a charter member and president of the council in the late 1950s. This council laid the ground work for the Fairhaven School and Workshop.
Stewart is survived by his wife, the former Lillian White, whom he married Dec. 27, 1937.
He leaves four children, Stewart (Marlene) White of Boardman, Michael (Michelle) White of McDonald, Carole Kompanik and Elaine Borecki, both of McDonald; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Virginia Davis; his daughter, Terry White; and a granddaughter, Mindy White.
Friends may call at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
