Thomas A. “T.A.” Andres Sr., 81

NILES – Thomas A. “T.A.” Andres Sr., 81, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 10, 1927 in Niles, the son of Anthony and Concetta Vinchwater Andres.

He was a 1947 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and attended the University of Indiana for one year. He graduated in 1951 from Youngstown College with a bachelor’s degree in education, where he also played football under coach Dyke Beede.

“T.A.” was employed in the Niles City School District as a History/Civics teacher for 33 years before retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, the Niles Frontliners and coached football for the Niles McKinley Red Dragons for 33 years.

He enjoyed golfing, where he made 3 holes in one, yard work, gardening and an avid Cleveland Browns fan.

His wife Rosemont D. Andres, whom he married Nov. 22, 1951, died Oct. 13, 1995.

He will be deeply missed by a son, Thomas A. Andres Jr. and his wife, Sandy of Boardman; a daughter, Charlene Guthrie and her husband, David of Indianapolis; and four grandchildren, Thomas A. Andres III., Brittany Andres, Michael Guthrie and David Guthrie.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Nicholas Andres; five sisters, Grace Clemente, Margaret Collins, Mary Corsale, Anne “Babe” Maddamma and Toni Maggianetti and his brother-in-law, Michael Rose, whom he and his wife, Rosemont, lovingly cared for 32 years until his death in 1995.

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where the Mt. Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 5:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niles, with Father Larry Frient officiating, preceded by a 9 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery.

Melkano L. Bowman, 24

YOUNGSTOWN – Services were held Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, for Melkano L. Bowman, 24, who departed this life Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mr. Bowman was born Feb. 18, 1985, in Youngstown, a son of Darlene Brown.

He attended Youngstown City Schools. He loved to play basketball and had a passion for singing.

Melkano was truly a people person. He loved to make others laugh and had a gift of lifting their spirits when they were sad or unhappy. He especially loved his children and family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Darlene Brown, and hisstepfather, Raymond Jennings, three children, Cy`Renity, Cimein and Amiah Bowman, his beloved fiancé, Alexandria Reyes, a brother, Jerry Bowman, a sister, Carmalita Brown, and grandmother Louise Thurman, all of Youngstown; three aunts, Carolyn, Marian “Twin” and Priscilla; friends who were like brothers to him, Cornell, Dale, Gabriel, Charles, Gary, Duane, Roy, Red, Stevie and Blake; a dear friend whom he called “Mom Kennedy;” and many other friends and family.

Rene F. DiPiero, 91

YOUNGSTOWN – Rene F. DiPiero, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Humility House.

He was born April 3, 1917, in Mahonington, Pa., a son of the late Lugi and Elvira (Iandemarino) DiPiero.

He was the husband of Marie E. (Moliterno) DiPiero, whom he married April 25, 1942.

Family includes his wife, Marie E. DiPiero of Youngstown; son Louis (Diann) DiPiero of Atlanta; daughter Linda (Jim) Jones of McDonald; and daughter Renee (Stan) Kumor of Hendersonville, N.C.; brother David DiPiero of Columbus; sister Sue Tursini of Orange, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dr. H.H. DiPiero, Phillip M. DiPiero and John V. DiPiero; sister Mary Siciliano; and one great-granddaughter.

He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

He was a graduate of The Rayen School. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and served on the freeway committee. He was recognized in national magazines for starting a scholarship at Youngstown College. He was also featured in the Esther Hamilton column as Citizen of the Month. He was a member of the Bugnaresa Club and past treasurer, a past member and past president of the Wolves Club.

He was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member. He operated Youngstown Dunbrik with his brother, John, from 1959 to 1979. He was also employed in the home delivery division at Isaly Dairy.

There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are being handled by the Fabrizio Funeral Home, 619 East Indianola Ave. in Youngstown.

A memorial Mass will be today, Feb. 28, 2009, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown at 11 a.m.

The family would like to extent their thanks to the staff and family of Humility House for the great care and love shown to Rene.


Edward F. Hartman Jr., 79

AUSTINTOWN - Edward F. Hartman Jr., 79, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 26, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland Township, after a 10-month battle with leukemia.

Mr. Hartman was born Dec. 1, 1929 in Youngstown, a son of the late Edward F. Sr. and Elnora Parks Hartman and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1947 graduate of South High School and served in the U.S. Army for four years during the Korean War.

Ed worked 36 years for Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Brier Hill Works/LTV, retiring as a melter. He was also a security guard for Pinkerton for 22 years, retiring in 2008.

He was an avid fan of the University of Notre Dame athletic teams and of the New York Yankees. Ed was also a military history buff, and enjoyed reading and talking about the history of World War II.

Ed’s wife, Dolores Murray Hartman, whom he married July 26, 1958, passed away Feb. 20, 2004.

Mr. Hartman leaves two sons, Edward F. Hartman III of Austintown and Robert Hartman of Youngstown; a daughter, Mary Jo Hartman of Youngstown; a granddaughter, Olivia Hartman; three brothers, Albert C. (Karen) Hartman of Canton, Gregory J. (Helen) Hartman of North Jackson and Dennis M. (Rose) Hartman of North Royalton; and a sister, Mary Hura of Pittsford, N.Y.

Ed will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Richard M. Hartman, 73

NEW SPRINGFIELD – A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the chapel at Green Haven Memorial Gardens for Richard M. Hartman, 73, who passed away Thursday evening at Ivy Woods Care Center.

Richard was born Jan. 19, 1936 in North Jackson, the son of Joe and Katherine (Sturdevant) Hartman.

He was the owner of Hartman Construction.

He leaves his wife, the former Marcia Welty, whom he married Oct. 22,1956; seven children, Richard Kurt of Boardman, Kenn of North Royalton, Lance (Sue) of Boardman, Lee (Sandy) of Champion, Noll of Canfield, Laura (Joe) Lozzi of Kentucky and Kim of South Range. Richard also leaves one brother, Paul Meredith of Vienna, and nine grandchildren, Casey, Corey, Katie, Christy, Nicholas, Jacob, T.J., Joshua and Matthew.

Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one sister, Darlene McCullough.

Nancy C. Mills, 66

BROOKFIELD – Nancy C. Mills, 66, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 26, 2009, at her home following a short illness.

She was born April 19, 1942 in Farrell, Pa., a daughter of Casimer and Pearl Marcus Carly and was a lifelong area resident.

Nancy owned and operated Brookfield Gardens, Belly Buster Sub Shop, Tent Incorporated and Nancy’s Treasure Chest. Nancy’s keen business skills, along with her husband’s outstanding craftsmanship, made Brookfield Gardens Complex the outstanding business it is today.

Nancy’s many passions included family, working, collecting antiques, Lladro, raising flowers, walks on the beach and gambling.

Her beloved husband, Edward J. Mills, whom she married Nov. 11, 1961, passed away Feb. 21, 2007.

She leaves a daughter, Tracey of Masury and a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce and Francis Carly of Kent. She will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews, her outstanding staff, wonderful friends and her Lilly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Ed; and two precious sons, Scott and Todd.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Iula Mostellar, 90

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Monday, March 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Ms. Iula Mostellar, 90, who passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009.

Ms. Mostellar, lovingly known as “Noodie” was born Jan. 13, 1919, a daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth Jones Mostellar.

A homemaker, Iula was a member of the Third Baptist Church, its usher board, and was formerly church corresponding secretary. She was also a member of the NAACP and IWU Bridge Club. She enjoyed social games, bingo and especially loved spending time with her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two children, Elizabeth Johnson and Kenneth Johnson, both of Youngstown; a niece, Avis (Ron) Lindsay of California; a nephew, Jerry (Joann) Thomas of Youngstown; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Sam Morgan Jr.; a sister, Lucille Thomas; and a brother, Ernest Mostellar Jr.

Christina M. “Nana” Netto, 72

STRUTHERS – Funeral services will be on Monday at the Clemente Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m. and at noon at St. Nicholas Church, both in Struthers, for Christina M. “Nana” Netto, 72, who passed away Friday at the Hospice House in Poland.

Christina was born in Casteltermini, Augragento, Italy on July 12, 1936 to Salvatore “Sam” and Mary DeMarco Infosino. She came to the United States in June of 1947 to Lowellville and was raised in Lowellville.

Christina was a member of St. Nicholas Church and was a beautician and had worked at St. Elizabeth Health Center in there Billing Department for 15 years..

She married John Joseph Netto Sr. on Nov. 30, 1957, and he passed in August of 1959.

Christina leaves behind one son, John Joseph (Ronda) Netto Jr. of Poland and three grandchildren, Jessica, John III. and Vince, all of Poland.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Charles A. Petrarca, 94

WARREN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, with the Father Philip Rogers officiating, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church for Charles A. Petrarca, 94, who passed away at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland.

Charles was born May 21, 1914 in Youngstown, the son of the late Celestino and Henrietta D’Amico Petrarca and lived in the area all of his life.

Charles was retired from Beil & Evans Printing, where he worked for over 30 years.

Charles was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Warren and a former member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II.

He was a member of the Scope Center in Warren, former member of the Elks in Youngstown, life member of the VFW Post 1090 in Warren and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4484 of Warren.

Charles was married to the former Violet Dorazio on Sept. 7, 1940, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 1977. Together they shared three children, Jeanne (Michael) Colonna of Basking Ridge, N.J., Charles (Annette) Petrarca of Canfield and Patricia Philomena of Canfield; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Fred Petrarca of Arizona and sisters, Cora Gioglio of Youngstown, Marguerite Gondal of Youngstown and Ergia Guarineri of Youngstown.

Besides his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by seven sisters, Rose Andrews, Elizabeth Fayard, Millie DeBlasio, Clementine Popio, Mary Jimenez, Lucy Young and Julia Latessa.

Family will receive friends on Monday, March 2, 2009, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel, where closing prayers will begin at 10:10 a.m.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.

Linton Steven Warren, 76

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Calvary Ministries International for Mr. Linton Steven Warren, 76, who entered eternal rest Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mr. Warren, who was lovingly known as “Steve,” was born Nov. 22, 1932, in Sparta, Ga., a son of William Ivory and Rosa Willis Warren.

He relocated from Georgia to New York in 1955, and was a commercial painter, then to California after many years and eventually moved to Youngstown in 1965, where he continued his long-standing professional career and was hired as one of the first African American employees of the Allied Painter and Trade Union. He was later hired by the Youngstown City Schools as a commercial painter, retiring in 1999. He was also a member of Painter’s Local Union 476.

He was a member of the Calvary Ministries International and its Brotherhood. He also assisted in the maintenance department for the church and was a faithful student of the Sunday School Department and College of the Scriptures.

He reared many foster children, as well as his family members. He enjoyed gardening, manicuring his lawn and grilling.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his devoted wife, the former Ruby Blackwell, whom he married Aug. 11, 1962, and who affectionately first started calling him “Pops;” two sons, Teri Lowe of Buffalo, N.Y. and Ricardo Warren of Atlanta; two daughters, Helen Grice of Charlotte, N.C. and Janice Warren of Youngstown; three brothers, James (Kate) Warren of Buffalo, Johnny (Annette) Warren and Jimmie (Brenda) Warren, both of Sparta; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; and his special furry friend and granddog, Barclay.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers, Clyde, Joseph, William, Clifford, Charlie, Elmer, Jesse, Moses and Thomas and a sister, Rose Alice Warren.

Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
