David D. Bell, 82
YOUNGSTOWN Services will be Friday, April 3, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. David D. Bell, 82, who departed this life March 28, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Bell, who was lovingly known as Ding Dong, was born May 23, 1926 in Campbell, a son of John H. and Mary Bell.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, retiring after 30 years of service. David will best be remembered for assisting in the recovery on the 2nd space flight of Astronaut John Glenn.
His wife, the former Bernice Ruth Fant, whom he married Oct. 7, 1958, passed away March 15, 2009.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Ronald Vinson Bell of Youngstown; three sisters, Delores Franklin and Rosalie Paige, both of Virginia, and Carol (Louis) Ware of Colorado; three brothers, Joseph of Struthers, Lester (Ann) of Cleveland and Robert of Nevada; a brother-in-law, Vollie Edward Fant; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Geneva Faulkner; and three brothers, William, John Jr. and James L. Bell.

Thomas G. Benko, 68
BOARDMAN Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home for Thomas G. Benko, 68, who entered into rest Tuesday evening at the Hospice House.
Thomas was born on Sept. 3, 1940, the son of the late John and Barbara (Kusman) Benko.
He was a graduate of Riggs Lamar Barber College in Akron and a self-employed barber.
He worked at Wean United, U.S. Steel and LTV Steel, as a loader. He also owned several barber shops in the Youngstown area.
Thomas was in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to 1962.
He was a member of a 12-step program. He enjoyed going to Las Vegas and spending time with his family.
Thomas will be sadly missed by many, including his two sons, David (Cindy) Benko of Poland and Jeffrey (Jessica) Benko of Mentor; his daughter, Melissa (Gordon) Henry of Boardman; and his five grandchildren.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, John and Barbara Benko and his two brothers, John Benko and Richard Benko.

YOUNGSTOWN Patricia L. Bruton, 44, of 1212 Hillman Ave., died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at her home following an extended illness.
Patricia was born Sept. 23, 1964 in Warren, the daughter of Richard and Sylvia Bruton Austin.
She was a home healthcare worker and was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. She specialized in cooking, was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved her children and family.
She is survived by her mother, Sylvia Austin of Youngstown; son, Patrick Bruton of Youngstown; daughter, Jazzmine Campbell of Youngstown; brother, Richard Caffie of Howland; sisters, Stephanie Bruton of Youngstown, Eleanor Austin and Jonelle Austin, both of Columbus; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father; sister, Bevelry; grandfather, Elmer Austin; and grandmother, Laird Bruton.
A service of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the New Bethel Baptist Church, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

AUSTINTOWN There will be a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Grace Lutheran Church for Regina Jean Davidson, who passed away Wednesday morning at Hospice House
Jean was born Dec. 1, 1924 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Paul and Regina (Drotleff) Nemenz.
A 1943 graduate of South High School, she worked as a bookkeeper for Isalys Dairy and retired from Austintown Tool and Die.
She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, sang in the choir and was a charter member of Rachael Circle at the church. She was a member of Austintown Friends of the Library and the Youngstown Saxon Club. Jean was a charter member of Sweetbriar Garden Club, where she served as president and treasurer, and was member of IKEBANA Garden Club, also serving as president and treasurer. She was on the Ohio Judges Council, serving as treasurer.
Her husband, John H. Davidson Jr., whom she married July 9, 1955, passed away March 22, 2009.
Jean is survived by two children, Amy (Jim Constas) Davidson of Canfield and John H. Davidson III of Lake Milton; and one grandson, David Constas.
Besides her parents and husband, Jean is preceded in death by one sister, Hilda Theiss.

YOUNGSTOWN Funeral service will be at noon on Friday at the Zion Hill Baptist Church for Evelyn L. Dean, 77, who departed this life Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Hospice House.
Mrs. Dean was born Nov. 10, 1931 in Charleston, Mo., a daughter of James H. and Mary L. Dixon Davis.
She was a lunch aide for the Youngstown Board of Education, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the church, its Mothers Board, Senior Choir, and Senior Mission and Kitchen Committee. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and a volunteer for the Salvation Army.
She leaves three sons, Arnold Davis of Leavittsburg and Richard Shizar Dean and Mark (Sharlene) Dean, both of Youngstown; two daughters, Delores (Clarence) Christian of Columbus and Auricia Reaves of Youngstown; a brother, L.C. Davis of Chicago; a sister, Justine (Eugene) Horton of Charleston; a host of grandchildren, including Margot Dean of Youngstown, whom she reared; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, a daughter, Sandra Dean; three sons, Samuel and Fabian Dean and Jerome Davis; two brothers, John H. and Ozean Davis; and five sisters, Myrtle Griffin, Lonnie Mar Thomas, Emma Davis and Dolly and Margie Davis, preceded her in death.

YOUNGSTOWN Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Western Reserve United Methodist Church for Nancy Anne Dios, 69, who died Monday.
Nancy was born Feb. 7, 1940 in New Castle, Pa., the daughter of Paul and Delta (Fetterman) Finley.
Nancy was a member of the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, graduated from Austintown Fitch High School and retired from Macys in the Southern Park Mall.
She is survived by her son, Tom (Debbie) Dios of Cleveland; sisters, Joyce (Bob) Whittaker of Columbus, Donna (Gene) Potter of North Jackson and Debbie (Thom) Rubin of Chespeake, Va. She also leaves three grandchildren, Michael, Rebecca and Angela.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Linda Robinson.

Wallace R. Fieger Sr., 80
CANFIELD Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Canfield for Wallace R. Fieger Sr., 80, who died Tuesday evening at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Boardman.
He was born Dec. 18, 1928 in Youngstown, the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Wallace) Fieger, and he resided in this area all of his life.
He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Kent State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He worked in production control for Commercial Intertech for 25 years, before his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, and a former longtime member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. He was very active in the Operation Blessing Food Bank, and he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and making homemade chocolate.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret E. Eyster, whom he married June 10, 1961; a daughter, Barbara Fieger of Elyria; a son, Wallace R. Jr. of Findlay; and three grandchildren, Angie and Brendan Baker and Taylor Fieger.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rae Kobel.

Paul H. Hetrick, 83
SEBRING Paul H. Hetrick, 83, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Alliance Community Hospital.
Mr. Hetrick was born in Sebring on April 17, 1925, the son of the late Henry and Mary (Allcorn) Hetrick.
Paul worked at Babcock & Wilcox at the Keystone Plant in Alliance as an inspector for 35 years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sebring, the Sebring Rebeccas Lodge, B & W Retirees Breakfast Club, a longtime member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Sebring Historical Association, the Crosley Club of America and a former member of the Auto Enthusiast Club. Mr. Hetrick was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. He had many hobbies including flea marketing, antique cars and auctions, and attending the Smith Grange Dinners.
Mr. Hetrick is survived by his daughter, Sandra K. Wagmiller of Atlanta; a son, Timothy Hetrick of Homeworth; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith M. Hetrick, whom he married on March 19, 1944, and who passed away on May 7, 2005; a son, David Hetrick who passed on March 29, 1997; and a sister, Martha Schneider.
Services will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Pastor James Case officiating.

NILES Alma E. Luther Isenberg, 60, of 1223 North Road, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at 11 a.m. at her residence.
Mrs. Isenberg was born Aug. 7, 1948 in Chicago, a daughter of Edwin and Alma Morgan Rosenkranz.
She worked in the cafeteria in the Chicago Public School System and at the Dinesol Corporation in Niles as a machine operator.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Luther.
She is survived by her mother of Chicago; her husband, Donald J. Isenberg Sr., whom she married July 31, 2007; two daughters, Karen Laningham and her husband, Roger of Waukegan, Ill. and Patricia Lange of Chicago; a stepdaughter, Tina Fowler and her husband, Robert of Niles; a son, Thomas Luther of Gary, Ill.; two stepsons, Donald J. Isenberg of Champion; a sister, Rosie Garcia of Chicago; a brother, Bill Hamlin of Schaumburg, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Georgia was born Nov. 1, 1917 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Pandeliakis Christofil.
She was a member of the Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Cincinnati.
Her husband, Chris Katsetos, whom she married in 1949, died Oct. 5, 1969.
She leaves four sons, Michael (Cindy) Katesetos of Green Bay, Wisc., James (Cindy) Katsetos, Walter (Helen) Katsetos and William (Linda) Katsetos, all from Cincinnati; a daughter, Alice (James) Munninghoff of Cincinnati; two brothers, George Christofil of California and Gust Christofil of Youngstown; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

YOUNGSTOWN - Marita Eva Klein, 84, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at the Hospice House.
Mrs. Klein was born Jan. 7, 1925 in Alliance, a daughter of Norman and Mary Link Bair.
Mrs. Klein worked as a waitress at the Star Oyster House and at Mazda Lamp Company for four years prior to her marriage.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers and a previous member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church. Mrs. Klein was also a member of the Ladies Card Club 500. She also volunteered at the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church and the Byzantine Catholic Schools.
Her husband, August Edward Klein, whom she married June 18, 1949, died Oct. 26, 1988.
She is survived by two daughters, Sheila (Frank) Wadlinger of Poland and Cheryl Augustini of Spokane, Wash.; two sons, Bill Klein of Cincinnati and Fred Klein and his companion, Elle Heckert, and her daughter, Brianna of Boardman; a sister, Helen DeCarlo of Austintown; two brothers, Harold Bair of Austintown and Floyd Bair of Canfield; four grandchildren, George Augustini, Erika (Derek Detert) Wadlinger, April Wadlinger and Julie Wadlinger; and a daughter-in-law, Robin Montgomery of Poland.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved stepfather, Fred Ward; a sister, Norma Coppola; and three brothers, Kermit, Ralph and Robert Bair.

SHAKER HEIGHTS Agnes Marie Kolar, formerly of Austintown, passed away Monday, March 30, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
Agnes was born on Sept. 11, 1925 in Youngstown to Ben McMurtrie and Virginia Teska.
She was a 1943 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. She was employed as an assembler for General Electrics Trumbull Lamp Plant for 14 years and was avid reader.
Agnes leaves her daughter, Mary Kolar-DeNunzio; son-in-law, Robert DeNunzio; her granddaughter, Marina, with whom she made her home; cousins, Agnes (Clinton) Davis of Kinsman, Phyllis (Robert) Connor and Josephine Cornwall of Niles, Stanley McMurtrie of Paducah, Ky. and Robert (Christiane) Teska of Toledo; and her goddaughter, Margaret (Greg) Foster of Warren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kolar, whom she married Aug. 8, 1959; stepfather, Joseph Vennetti; aunts, Mary Worosz, Victoria Hall and Helen Rudy; and uncles, Albert and Stanley Teska.

AKRON Norma Mastromatteo, 83, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away March 31, 2009.
Norma was born in Lodi on July 1, 1925, to the late Edward and Ruth (Loveland) Presley. She lived most of her life in Portage County, but in the Akron and North Hill areas the last 20 years.
Norma is survived by her sons, John (Patricia) Firby and James Mastromatteo; grandchildren, Heather (James) Young, Edward (Christina) and Scott Firby; great-grandchildren, Leanna (Erik), Logan and Carson Firby and Nicholas, Jennifer and Bridget Welsch; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Rose Stephens; sister, Doris Presley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina.

Margaret Mary Peg McCoy, 93
YOUNGSTOWN Margaret Mary Peg McCoy, 93, passed away Tuesday morning at Forum Health Northside Medical Center with her family at her side.
Mrs. McCoy was born Nov. 21, 1915 in Youngstown, a daughter of Christopher and Margaret OBrien.
She was a 1935 graduate of South High School. Margaret was a homemaker and loyal member of the Niles Chapter of the Women of the Moose. She attended St. Dominics Church and was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society. She served as a presiding judge for the Board of Elections for many years. She enjoyed her retirement years traveling and playing bingo with her husband, Harold, her constant companion.
Harold and Peg were married at St. Dominics and had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on Feb. 22, 2009.
Besides her husband, Margaret leaves her daughter, Janet Rae Yacopi (Al); her son, Terry McCoy (Cindy); three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edward OBrien.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ray OBrien; her sister, Eileen Whalen; and a grandson, Christopher Allen McCoy.

LOWELLVILLE A service of remembrance will be held for James Jim A. McFadden and Sarah Sally E. McFadden on April 4, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Lowellville United Methodist Church in Lowellville.
Mr. McFadden was born Feb. 10, 1928 in Youngstown, a son of Richard E. and Hazel M. Hiet McFadden.
He was a 1946 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and had worked for Sharon Steel. A veteran of the Army, Jim was a member of the Lowellville Auxiliary Police and Volunteer Fire Department.
The McFadden family moved to West Palm Beach, Fla. in 1961.
Jim retired from Ranger Construction in 1984, and passed away on Sept. 16, 1997.
Mrs. McFadden was born on Aug. 15, 1930 in Lowellville, a daughter of Kenneth P. and Edna M. Schrader.
She was a 1949 graduate of Lowellville High School. After the death of Jim, Sally moved to College Park, Md., where she passed away on Jan. 7, 2009.
Sally and Jim are survived by their son, James E. of College Park; their daughter, Sandra L. Smith of West Palm Beach; and three grandchildren, Judith E. Combast of West Palm Beach, James J. McFadden of Columbus and Michael J. Smith of College Park. Jim also leaves a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Balluck of New Springfield.
His brother, Franklin and sister, Mary Prine, are deceased.
Sally leaves two brothers, Walter and Richard Schrader of Lowellville.
Marian L. (Munholland) Phillips, 85
BESSEMER, PA. Mrs. Marian L. (Munholland) Phillips, 85, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, Pa.
She was born on March 13, 1924, the daughter of the late LLoyd Munholland and the late Vida (Stoner) Munholland.
She took as her husband, the late William T. Phillips Sr., on Jan. 14, 1944, and they had five children.
Mrs. Phillips was employed by F&R Greenhouse in Bessemer for 17 years before retiring, and during World War II, she served her country as many women did, by working in the factories.
She was a Christian woman of faith.
She is survived by her three sons, Mr. William T Phillips Jr. of Boardman, Mr. John E. and wife Jessica Phillips of New Middletown and Mr. Donald Scott and wife Lynda Phillips of Youngstown; one sister, Carol and husband Bill Megan of Illinois; three brothers, Mr. Glen and wife Ruby Munholland of Struthers, Howard and wife Clemantine Munholland of Struthers and Bill Munholland of Struthers; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Diane and Penny Phillips.
Arrangements were handled by the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St. in Bessemer.

McDONALD Celina Husted Rafferty, 91, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Autumn Hills Nursing Home in Niles.
She was born Dec. 31, 1917 in Sharon, Pa., the daughter of the late Frank and Hazel (Tunison) Husted.
She retired from the Wilson Freight Company in 1974 after 15 years of service. She was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald and their Altar and Rosary Society.
She married John D. Rafferty Sr. on April 11, 1942, and he passed away July 27, 1983.
She is survived by two sons, John D. (Ann) Rafferty Jr. of Pittsburgh and William F. (Colleen) Rafferty of Girard; three daughters, Susan (Bill) Hagerman of Redlands, Calif., Gerry (Jack) Whitacre of McDonald and Patty (Marty) Bloom of St. Helena, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Pishner of Newton Falls and Pat Kachurik of Austintown; 12 grandchildren, Kelly, Chrissy, Tammy, John, Lisa, Mark, John, Michael, Christy, Danny, Brian and Molly; and 14 great-grandchildren, Kara, Kenny, Michael, Jake, Jesse, Deja, Keyze, Clayton, Justin, Michael, Kerrigan, Abbie, Nicholas and Liam.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Husted; and a sister, Florence Husted.

Betty Lois Lynch Richardson was born Oct. 25, 1947 in West Blocton, Ala., a daughter of Edward and Daisy Lynch.
She was a member of the Travelers Bowling Team for years. She enjoyed caring for the elderly and worked as a home healthcare aide in Detroit. Betty was a loyal member of two churches throughout her lifetime, the Word of Faith International Christian Center in Detroit and the Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Youngstown.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Tabatha, Rochelle and Glorise Richardson, all of Youngstown; one son, Andre W. Richardson of Youngstown; three sisters, Sandra Stroughter, Cheryl Briskey and Donna Love-Pierce, all of Youngstown; four brothers, Gregory Lynch, Willie Ray Briskey, all of Georgia, Terry L. Briskey Sr. of Youngstown and Raymond E. Brisky Sr. of Arizona; 13 grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, all of Youngstown; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other family members, whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Willie Briskey, who reared her; grandparents, Evalina and Raymond McWilson; brother, Robert Lynch; and a daughter, Sophia Lynch.

Lillian Stephenson, 75
AUSTINTOWN - Lillian Stephenson, 75, passed away Tuesday evening, March 31, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland Township.
Lillian was born Dec. 27, 1933 in Campbell, a daughter of the late Andrew and Lillian Savova Zlatkoff, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1951 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, a graduate of the Ohio Beauty School of Cosmetology and attended Youngstown College.
She was a homemaker and a beautician, working for various local beauty shops as a beautician and manager, and was the owner-operator of her own shop, Silhouette Salon in Campbell. Lillian also worked for a time for General Electric.
Mrs. Stephenson was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Youngstown, AARP Chapter No. 4439, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Austintown Aerie No. 3298, the St. George Croatian Lodge No. 66., and attended meetings of UAW Local No. 1112. She was a former member of St. Mark Orthodox Church.
Lillian leaves her husband of 52 years, John R. Jack Stephenson, whom she married July 14, 1956; her daughter, Jacqueline Stromberg of Mentor; two grandchildren, Alyssa and Seth; and her brother, Andrew (Noreen) Zlatkoff of Campbell.
Lillian will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 3, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home and continue at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church on North Belle Vista Avenue in Youngstown.
Interment will follow at St. John Orthodox Cemetery in Campbell.
