William E. Akers II, 83

ELLSWORTH - William E. Akers II, 83, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, April 6, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Austintown after becoming ill at home.

William was born Dec. 13, 1925 in Bessemer, Pa., a son of the late William E. and Bertha McFarland Akers and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1942 high school graduate in the Bessemer school system, and was a 23-year member of the Merchant Marines, serving as a 3rd Class Boatswains Mate, and traveled the world while in the service.

In addition to his career in the military, Mr. Akers was a self-employed painter for over 60 years.

Mr. Akers was an avid bowler, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

His wife, Mary Ann Moore Akers, whom he married Feb. 9, 1979, passed away March 1, 1999.

William leaves five children, Annette Howard of Cleveland, Mike (Melody) Akers of Carlisle, Ky., William E. III (Laura) Akers of Canfield, Lori (Terry Jr.) Endsley of Salem and Tiffany (Matthew) Grate of Salem; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, a great-grandson, Joshua Cunningham; two brothers, Arthur and Thomas Akers; and a sister, Margaret List are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Lowellville Cemetery.

Grace E. Anderson, 90

“Together Again”

NORTH JACKSON – Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Grace Anderson, 90, who died Sunday afternoon.

Grace was born Oct. 30, 1918 in McKeesport, Pa., the daughter of August and Esther Wadman and came to the area as a infant.

Grace was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in North Jackson, where she was the organist for many years and was also the director of music for many years.

She will be sadly missed by children, Carole Miller of North Jackson, Alice Abello of Tuttle, Okla., Paul (Nancy) Anderson of Canfield, Daniel (Robin) Anderson of Salem, Lolly (Bill) Robinson of Beloit, Kristine (Bob) Demes of Salem, Deborah (George) Gati of Columbus, Robin Houser of North Jackson and Tina (Dave) Baird of North Jackson; 25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her sister, Rhoda in Kentucky.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Albin, whom she married Oct. 10, 1936, and who died in 1990. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Irene Wheeler; brothers, Harry, Clyde, Edward and Morrell; and a granddaughter, Terry Weingart.

The family would like to thank the Essex House, Salem Hospital and Hospice of the Valley for all their kindness expressed to them.

Joseph “Kinny” Berroteran, 76

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Mr. Joseph “Kinny” Berroteran, 76, who died late Monday evening at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Boardman Campus of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Berroteran was born Oct. 3, 1932 in Youngstown, the son of Miguel and Andrea Rembao Berroteran and grew up in the Monkey’s Nest.

He had attended The Rayen School and later served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Worcester for eight years during the Korean War. He then worked at the GM Lordstown Assembly Plant for over 32 years, retiring in 1998.

He was a member of St. Columba Parish and the UAW Local No. 1112. Mr. Berroteran also enjoyed local history, especially Youngstown’s. He would spend time researching and reading at the Arms Museum and the Mahoning Valley Historical Society. He also was an avid boxing fan, and enjoyed cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes.

His wife, the former Ann Jeannette Chick, whom he married April 23, 1958, passed away May 10, 2006.

He leaves six daughters, Joanne (Dr. David) Rich of Boardman, Michele (Greg) Berroteran-Stroh of Kent, Constance (Edward) Godfrey of Rome, Ann (Scott) Saluga of Oberlin, twins, Jeannine Berroteran of Youngstown and Jeannette Berroteran of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a son, Louis (Raquel) Berroteran of Silver Lake; 10 grandchildren, Jeannine, David, Michael and twins Alex and Vince Rich, Gerard and Isabel Berroteran and Christina, Joey and Jimmy Godfrey; and two brothers, Andrew (Barbara) Berroteran of Boardman and James (Maryann) Berroteran of Poland.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maria Daniels; and a brother, Michael Berroteran.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.

In respect of holy week protocol a Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral.

John S. Bespiaty, 94

AUSTINTOWN - John S. Bespiaty, 94, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, April 6, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he had been a patient for one week.

John was born Oct. 27, 1914 in New Castle, Pa., a son of the late Vasil and Anastasia Storozyla Bezpiaty, was raised in Hubbard and later moved to Youngstown and Austintown.

He served America honorably in the U.S. Army during Word War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, serving as a Staff Sergeant and receiving the Victory Medal of Word War II and the Occupation Ribbon of Japan. While in the service, John attended chef and baking school and became a Mess Sergeant, and while stationed in Japan, he attended school to learn Japanese.

John worked for Youngstown Sheet & Tube as a crane operator, and subsequently worked for Aeroquip / Republic Rubber, retiring as a wire braid operator in 1977. John thoroughly enjoyed his job at Aeroquip and missed only two days of work in his 32-year career there.

Mr. Bespiaty was a member of St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church in Austintown.

He enjoyed traveling to various parts of California to visit his son and daughter-in-law, and also spent many winter seasons in Naples and Bonita Springs, Fla. with his daughter and her late husband.

John loved to fish and enjoyed taking his small fishing boat to various lakes in the area, trying to catch “the big one,” which never happened! He enjoyed watching boxing and keeping up with home projects. He also greatly enjoyed helping others with their tasks.

He leaves his beautiful wife of nearly 70 years, Mary Pavlisen Bespiaty, whom he married Oct. 12, 1940; his son and daughter-in-law, John “Butch” Bespiaty and Louwannah “Billie” Bespiaty of Ripon, Calif.; his daughter, Polly Flood of Austintown; and a brother, Fred Bespiaty of Alpena, Mich.

John will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him, his extended family, nieces, nephews and many friends. He will be especially missed by his wife, children, daughter-in-law and his card-playing buddy, Vic.

John was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Michael Bespiaty; a sister, Nellie Bespiaty; and a son-in-law, Richard Flood.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown, where a prayer service will take place at 4 p.m.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home and continue at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

John’s family wishes to thank the emergency staff, doctors, nurses, and aides at St. Elizabeth Health Center, who helped them through this difficult time, as well as the staff on the 6th floor Progressive Cardio Unit at St. Elizabeth’s for their kindness, generous attention and expert help.

Mr. Bespiaty’s family would also like to thank John’s long-time physician, Dr. Thomas Traikoff, who John had enormous respect for and his newfound friend, Dr. Chad Volevar.

Eleanor Shobel Cheeks, 69

MINERAL RIDGE – Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home-Mineral Ridge Chapel for Eleanor Cheeks, 69, who died early Monday morning at her home. She will be sadly missed by her family.

Eleanor was born Aug. 28, 1939 in Niles, the daughter of John and Mary “Virginia” (Ford) Shobel.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother and caring grandmother and great-grandmother. A number of years ago, she had worked at Glenview Manor in Mineral Ridge.

Eleanor is survived by her husband, John Cheeks, whom she married Oct. 15, 1955. She also leaves her mother Mary “Virginia” Millikin of North Jackson; six children, Debra Lindenmuth of Austintown, John B Cheeks of Niles, Bridgette (John) Hall of Girard, Mark Cheeks and Katrina Armeni, both of Mineral Ridge and Eric Cheeks of Austintown; a brother, John “Jack” Shobel II of Cortland; two half sisters, Jeannie Neff and Corrine Weaver; and four half brothers, Richard Shobel, Thomas Shobel, Don Shobel and Todd Shobel. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, John Brian Jr., Shana Marie, Joshua, Jessica Rae, Tiffany, Justin Lee, Jessica Ann, Jason Paul, Megan, Robbie, Ashley Dawn, Tara Ann, Quentin and Jordan; and seven great-grandchildren; Sadie, Jonathon, Brian William, Zoe, Aiden, Nathan and Jayce.

She was preceded in death by her father and infant daughter, Sherry Kim Cheeks.

Ann P. DeChellis, 86

AUSTINTOWN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial today at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church for Ann P. DeChellis, 86, who died Monday at her home with family and loved ones by her side.

Ann was born April 12, 1922 in Youngstown, the daughter of Salvatore and Vena DiRenzo DeChellis.

She had worked for U.S. Steel for 38 years in the Payroll Department and two years at Youngstown Letter Shop. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and was a joy to all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She was also a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Senior Citizens and St. Anthony Church.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ann in death besides her parents were four brothers, Louis, Jacob, Rocco and Ernest DeChellis and one sister, Mrs. Rachel Svabik.

Calling hours will be today from 9 to 10 a.m., one hour before Mass at St. Anthony Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by the Schiavone Funeral Home in Youngstown.

Charles H. Diana, 62

MINERAL RIDGE – Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Grace Fellowship Church in Howland for Charles H. Diana, 62, who died early Monday morning at the Hospice House in Poland.

He was born June 17, 1946 in Franklin, Pa., a son of Charles A. and Constance (Johns) Diana, and he came to this area in 1970.

He was a 1964 graduate of Canon McMillian High School in Canonsburg, Pa. and he achieved an Engineering Drafting Degree from Youngstown State University.

He worked on the assembly line for General Motors Lordstown for 15 years before retiring, and most recently he worked as a courier for Tee’s Dental in Warren.

He was a member of the Grace Fellowship Church, where he was an usher and greeter. He was active in the D.A.R.E. program and he enjoyed cooking, fishing, painting, writing and working with computers.

He is survived by two daughters, Alethea Diana and Christina Siembida, both of Austintown. He also leaves a brother, Craig J. Diana of Arizona; a sister, Charlotte M. Diana also of Arizona; and three granddaughters, Akira Back and Raina and Narana Giles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Paul J. Farragher, 88

MAYFIELD VILLAGE – Paul J. Farragher, 88, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, at AlterCare of Mayfield Village.

Paul was born on March 16, 1921 in Youngstown. He was a long time resident of South Euclid and was a retired sales representative for General Electric.

He is survived by his children, James P. (Deborah), Jane Ann (Andrew) Dingenary and Kathleen (Brian) Kabat; grandchildren, Mark and Jenna Dingenary, Jonathan and Dylan Kabat and Eric and Katherine Fallagher; a sister, Marjorie Yash; brothers, Firmin, Earl and Wendell; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Harkins); his parents, T. Frank and Katherine (Raub); brothers, Robert, Edward, Fred and Frank; and a sister, Rita.

Family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Paul on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home, 4600 Mayfield Road, South Euclid, OH 44121 (just East of Green Road). Fr. Edward Holland of St. Gregory the Great Parish will officiate.

Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.

Catherine T. Feldhouse, 79

“Together Again”

NILES – Catherine T. Feldhouse, 79, formerly of Howland, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at 5:30 a.m. at Autumn Hills Care Center.

She was born Jan. 12, 1930 in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Harry and Catherine Lavey Steger.

Catherine was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Sweet Adelines. She retired from Trumbull County Jobs and Family Services after 10 years of service as an aid. She also formerly worked at Shepherd of the Valley.

Catherine is survived by three daughters, Judie (Stephen) Ferrebee of Brookfield, Mary (Alan) Berquist of Warren and Catherine (Michael) Heath of Raleigh, N.C.; five sons, Matthew Feldhouse of Clearwater, Fla., Steven (Joann) Feldhouse of San Antonio, Donald Feldhouse of Masury, Thaddeus (Lorrie) Feldhouse of Clearwater and Harold Eugene Feldhouse III of Columbus; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann (Nick) Verone and one brother, Harry (Pat) Steger, both of St. Louis.

Other than her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Feldhouse on April 4, 1996, whom she married on Nov. 21, 1950; one daughter, Theresa Feldhouse; one brother, Francis Steger; and a grandson, Tyler R. Byers.

The funeral Mass will take place at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 11 a.m. today, April 8, 2009, with the Rev. Fr. Donald King officiating the Mass.

Mary Lee “Ms. Fig” Figueroa

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at L.E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home for Mrs. Mary Lee “Ms. Fig” Figueroa, who departed this life Friday, April 3.

She was born Aug. 8, 1938 in Greensboro, Ala., a daughter of Isaiah and Amanda Jackson Lawson.

She was a graduate of East High class of 1955. She had been employed by the Youngstown City School System as an educational assistant, having worked at Lincoln, Madison, The Rayen, East High and P. Ross Berry schools. She was affectionately known by her students and colleagues as “Ms. Fig.” She was of the Baptist faith and had attended the Elizabeth and Tabernacle Baptist Churches. She had been a member of East High Athletic Boosters and PTA and coordinated the Variety and Style Shows at East High. She was also a member of AFSCME 1143A. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Victoria Figueroa of Detroit; three sons, Osvaldo Jr. (Kimberly) Alfredo and Jose Luis Figueroa, all of Youngstown; three sisters, Katie (James) Roland, Linda (Vernon) Gurley Sr. and Lecia Chatman, all of Youngstown; two brothers, LaMont (Barbara) Moore of Gary, Ind. and Theodore (Rhoda) Moore of Norfolk, Va.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; her mother and stepfather, Amanda and Theodore Pappachristor; her husband of 39 years, Osvaldo Ortiz Figueroa, who passed away in August 1997; and a brother, William Tubbs.

Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.


Robert Preston Hampton, 48

YOUNGSTOWN – A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009, for Robert Preston Hampton, 48, who passed away Monday morning at his home.

He was born July 3, 1960 in Youngstown, the son of the late Thomas Hampton Sr. and Beverly (Miller) Hampton-Caputo.

Robert was a clerk for the 7-11 Convenience Store Corporation in Las Vegas, for several years until 2008. He enjoyed computers, and gaming.

He leaves two brothers, and three sisters, Darla Burkett and Thomas R. (Melanie) Hampton Jr., both of Youngstown, Nancy (Rick) Grissoms of Oklahoma, Patricia Griffin of Austintown and Ernie (Robin) Reiner of Texas, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Grace Gransee.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Gibson Heights Church in Youngstown.

Regis E. Keslek, 80

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mr. Regis E. Keslek, 80, who died Monday evening at the Hospice House.

Mr. Keslek was born June 26, 1928 in Braddock, Pa., a son of Steve and Alice Dunbar Keslek.

He was employed by the Youngstown Window Cleaning Company as a janitor, working at Youngstown State University. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. His favorite things to watch was NASCAR and bullfighting, and he loved horses.

Mr. Keslek is survived by his beloved sister, Mary Keslek of Austintown; and other family members, Ron and Karen Price of Austintown, Lana Ehrlich of Pittsburgh, David Ehrlich of Pittsburgh, Mike and Christy Reese of Texas and Betty Tanner of Bessemer, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and other family members, Thelma Coonce, John Gardner, Eleanor Hite, Betty Davis and Sandra Keslek.

Frank C. Kotouch, 83

SEBRING, FLA. – Frank C. Kotouch, 83, the son of the late Frank C. Kotouch and Ethel (Lyons) Kotouch Wesner, was born in Youngstown.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl Wesner and a sister, Virginia Parker.

After graduating from South High School, he entered the U.S. Army Aircorps, serving in World War II with the No. 868 Bomb Squadron. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, Victory Medal World War II, Air Medal and was a member of Liberator and Snoopers Club. Frank’s World War II experience, “The Voice from out of the Past,” was published in one of Tom Brokaw’s books and is now in the museum that Tom established at the University of Florida.

Frank retired after 43 years service as a supervisor for Standard Slag (now Standard LaFarge) in Youngstown. He was past president of Steelworkers Union for 22 years, past president of Association of Highway Engineers, former Boy Scout Leader, member of Poland Masonic Lodge No. 766, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Youngstown, Aut Mori Grotto, Youngstown Saxon Club, Organization of Protestant Men, and involved with many square dance clubs all in the Youngstown area and I.O.O.F. No. 155 in Canfield.

He moved to Sebring in 1993 from Youngstown. He was the former chaplain for the Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post No. 4300, past president of Francis I, Mobile Home Park, lifetime patron of Highlands Little Theatre, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sebring.

Frank is survived by his wife, Dorothy, whom he married on May 25, 1973; daughters, Patricia Mayberry of Boardman and Karen (William) Kozak of Canfield; sons, Frank C. (Adia) Kotouch Jr. of Youngstown and Kenneth (Lydia) Kotouch of Poland; stepson, Gary C. (Samantha) Herron of New Straitsville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials are requested to Junalaski Fund in care of the First United Methodist Church, 125 S. Pine St, Sebring, FL 33870, VFW No. 4300, Honor Guard or Highlands Little Theatre.

Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

William H. “Bill” Mansell, 65

KINSMAN – William H. “Bill” Mansell, 65, of The Boyd’s Home, died peacefully at 7:15 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at Hospice House of Poland after a six month battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

He was born Dec. 5, 1943 in Warren, the son of Edgar and Elsie (Denger) Mansell.

A lifetime area resident, Bill attended Fairhaven School and Workshop and worked as an assembler for Pitmark Services Inc. at Boyd’s Home for the past 30 years.

He was a faithful member of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church, and he enjoyed bowling, riding bicycles, traveling, and camping. Bill had a big heart, loved dogs, and he especially liked spending time with his family. He enjoyed parties and made decorations for every holiday, many which were spent with the Oberman family.

He will be sadly missed by his brother, Stan (Deborah) Mansell of Vacaville, Calif.; his sister, Sally (John) Oberman of Youngstown; by his beloved nieces and nephews, Lance, Jackie, Blair and Jeff; great-nieces, Abigail, Hannah, Josiah and David; and by his fellow residents of The Boyd’s Home, whom he considered family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, at the Roberts-Clark Chapel, where friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. The Rev. Larry Myers and the Rev. Jay Eastman will officiate.

Interment will be at Braceville Township Cemetery.

Jeannette McKernan, 87

GIRARD – Jeannette McKernan, 87, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Liberty Health Care Center in Liberty Township.

She was born March 16, 1922 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Grover and Margaret (Bailey) Beaver.

She married Edward James McKernan on June 4, 1941, and he passed away Aug. 11, 1999.

She and her husband owned and operated William Price Heating in Girard.

She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, James (Linda) McKernan, William (Linda) McKernan and Richard McKernan, all of Girard; four grandchildren, Christian McKernan, James McKernan, Robin Durkin and Jeff McKernan; seven great-grandchildren; and her adopted cat, Beck.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Beaver; and three sisters, Gladys Wayland, Irene Wike and Helen Hodgson.

Private services were held at the McClurkin Funeral Home in Girard.

The family requests that donations be made in her name to Emmanuel Community Care Center, 2 N. State St., Girard, OH 44420.

Russell W. Patterson Sr., 91

HOWLAND – Russell W. Patterson Sr., 91, of 8508 Carriage Hill Drive and formerly of Wyoming Ave., passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009, at his residence after suffering with cancer.

He was born in Niles on May 23, 1917, to Charles H. and Catherine (Nicholas) Patterson.

A distinguished Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns and was honored with the EAME Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars. He was with the 919th Ordinance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Co.

Russell cherished the love of his life, his wife Leona, and he would do anything for her and loved each day they spent together. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, camping, traveling, fixing old cars and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by a daughter, Beverly Gartland with whom he made his home; son, Russell W. (Carolyn) Patterson Jr. of Brookfield; four grandchildren, Dennis J. Gartland II of Cleveland, Brad R. (Beth) Patterson of Celebration, Fla., Jason R. (Sarah) Gartland of Youngstown and Lindsay L. Gartland of Niles; and his brother, Robert W. Patterson of Florida.

Russell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leona S. (Keyser) Patterson, whom he married on July 13, 1940 and who passed away on Dec. 28, 2007; two sisters, Katherine Black and Estella Miller; and three brothers, Charles H., Edwin O. and Emory J.

The funeral will be Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where family and friends may call from noon to 1:30 p.m., one and one half hours prior to the services. Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mattie B. Richey, 68

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Friday, April 10, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mrs. Mattie B. Richey, 68, who departed this life Sunday, April 5, 2009, at her home.

Mrs. Richey was born Nov. 15, 1940 in Alabama, a daughter of Isiah and Rosie Lee Jones Harris.

She was a 1958 graduate of The Rayen School. She worked as a clerk with LaFrance Cleaners and was a homemaker. She enjoyed music and loved cooking. Her family was the joy of her life and she spent many hours letting them know they were loved and appreciated.

Her husband, James Richey Jr., whom she married March 16, 1989, passed away Sept. 22, 1999.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, three daughters, Carlotta A. Harris and Tonya D. (Matthew) Patterson, both of Youngstown, and Teresa L. McDowell of Columbus; a sister, Dorothy M. Harris of Youngstown; a brother, Jimmy Lee (Mylinh) Harris of Clovis, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Duaine McDowell, LaTefa Farmer, Tee Jay Johnson, Theresa Johnson, Lexis Richey, Chris Rogers, and Kendra Wilson; two great-grandchildren, Naudia Thomas and DeVaun Dukes; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bernice Majors and her great-granddaughter, Trinity D. Farmer.

Friends may call Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kendal L. Ware, 34

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrews AME Church for Kendal L. Ware, 34, who departed this life Friday, April 3, 2009.

Mr. Ware was born Jan. 13, 1975 in Youngstown, a son of William Oree III and Oreda L. Ware.

He was a landscaper and construction worker with his uncle, Randy Ware. He was a member of the Afro Dogs and Wheels of Soul.

He leaves his parents; his children, Kiara Casey, Ciara M. Ware, and Kendal L. Ware, all of Youngstown and Aaryn M. Chandler of New Castle, Pa.; stepchildren, Tyrone, Chandor, Rakeem, Nyhuh, Ajah and Chandajah; three half sisters, Brandy Whitehead and Axavia Oree, both of Windsor, Conn. and Shadava Oree of Charlotte, N.C.; stepsiblings, Rodney, Albert and Melissa Tate and Charity Tate (Willie) Young; and his fiance, Shirley Martinez, all of Youngstown; grandparents who reared him, Ransome and Mary Ware; and great-grandparent, Ora Lee Ware, all of Youngstown.

His grandparents, Ruth Ware, William Jr. and Annie L. Oree and his great-grandparents, Callie Bryant and Arthur and Essie Jones, preceded him in death.

Viewing will be today from noon to 4 p.m. at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home.

Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.
