Lois Marie Clegg, 82

YOUNGSTOWN – Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. this evening at the Grace Church of the Nazarene in Austintown for Lois Marie Clegg, 82, who passed away Saturday evening.

Lois was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Ashland, Ky., a daughter of David and Julia Bradford.

She was a wonderful housewife and mate. Lois was a member of the church, a prayer chain partner and was the church cookie lady. She was fun to be around.

She leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, Everett, whom she married Aug. 19, 1955; a son, Darrel (Dottie) Clegg; two daughters, Lannie (Dan) Kardos and Donna (Dave) Thornsberry; two sisters, Mona Gee and Helen Dodge; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pauline F. Marsco, 89

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony of Padua Church for Pauline F. Marsco, 89, of Coronado Avenue, who died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Hospice House.

Pauline was born June 1, 1919, in Youngstown, a daughter of Vito and Maria Damiano Priore and lived here all her life.

She was a member of the church and Cherie Chums Social Club, playing cards every other Tuesday at Mitsi’s Restaurant on the west side. She was an avid bowler in the Catholic Ladies League. She was employed at Stouss-Hirshberg in downtown then at Strouss in the Liberty Plaza in the Gift Department. She was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Navy waves, stationed as an assignment clerk in San Francisco. In 1945, she was authorized to wear the American Campaign Ribbon in accordance with AL NAV 351-45.

She leaves two sons, John D. of Youngstown and Vito D. (Sandy) of Girard; a daughter, Rosemary D. (companion Maria Ciletti) of Niles; five grandchildren, Jason N. (Shannon) of Columbus, Kristin M. (Frank) Jarome of Niles, Jennifer E. of Youngstown, Suzanne L. and Danielle of Girard; three great-grandchildren, Alexis and Adrianna Marsco of Columbus and Daniel Joseph Jarome of Niles; a brother, William (Dee) Priore of Lynchburg; and a sister, Theresa Isabella of Hubbard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald J. “Chief” Marsco, whom she married June 29, 1946, who died May 16, 1998; and a brother, Daniel Priore.

Family and friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Schiavone Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Donald G.

Mashburn, 47

AUSTINTOWN – Donald G. Mashburn, 47, died Saturday morning after a brief battle with cancer at Hospice House.

Don was born Feb. 3, 1962, in Youngstown, and was the son of Glenn and Delores Ann (Johnson) Mashburn.

He had worked for Dominion East Ohio in customer service for 17 years. The “Grill Master” enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering with cars and playing games of chance.

Don will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Deborah Kovac, who he has been with since 1982.

He leaves two daughters Rebecca (Timothy) Webster of Smithfield, Va., and Shelby Mashburn at home; his father of New Middletown; his mother, also of New Middletown, two sisters, Teresa Vick of Austintown and Juanita Mashburn of New Middletown; three brothers, Michael of Petersburg, Daniel of Dallas and David of Petersburg; and two grandsons, Jacob and Lucas Webster. He also leaves 12 nieces and nephews and 5 great-nieces and great-nephews.

There are no calling hours or services. Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

The family requests that material contributions in lieu of flowers be made to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, OH 44514.

Sylvia Rose Melnek, 77

STRUTHERS – Services will be at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at Saint John’s Episcopal Church for Sylvia Rose Melnek, 77, who died Friday at her home.

Sylvia was born Feb. 22, 1932 in Bristol, England, a daughter of Charles and Rose French.

Sylvia was schooled in England and came to the United States in 1948. After coming to the U.S., Sylvia worked in retail then became a homemaker and was the secretary at St. Michael Church in Canfield, retiring in 2006.

She was a 50-year member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, its Altar Guild, taught Sunday school, and she loved children. Sylvia was active in the church and never missed a function. She also belonged to the Struthers P.T.A.

Sylvia leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Peter, whom she married April 25, 1953; two sons, Mark C. (Margaret) Melnek of Poland and David P. (Connie) Melnek of Delaware, Ohio; two sisters, Carol (John) Salaka and Lorraine Dorko, both of Youngstown; and six grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew, Angelissa, Emily, Austin and Michaela.

She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Richard Dorko.

Friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.

Edward J. Vrable Sr., 77

BOARDMAN – A Panachida service will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. at the Infant Jesus Byzantine Catholic Church, both in Boardman, for Edward J. Vrable Sr., 77, who passed away Friday morning after he fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Edward was born Sept. 10, 1931, a son of Joseph and Anna Havrilla Vrable.

He was a 1949 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and a 1959 graduate of Youngstown College.

Edward worked at the Ohio Department of Taxation as an auditor and supervisor, retiring in 1991 after 30 years of service. Edward was an active member of his church and its Infant Jesus of Prague, Altar Rosary Guild and by playing bingo at the church. Being so devoted to his faith, Edward also attended and supported many other churches in the area. He was a former member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Church and a life member of the Greek Catholic Union and the Knights of Columbus Marion Council No. 3813.

Besides being a very religious man, Edward was also very athletic. He played softball into his 70s and he shared his talents with area youth, coaching Boys and Girls Little League and taking many teams to championships. Edward also belonged to the Curbstone Coaches and the Penguin Club, where he was a longtime supporter of Youngstown State University Athletics. He faithfully served our country in the Coast Guard for four years, and he delivered Meals on Wheels. He also worked for the Board of Elections as a poll worker and as presiding judge of the elections for many years.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Dolores J. Kerr, whom he married July 14, 1956; two sons, Edward J. Vrable Jr. of Boardman and David J. (Teresa) Vrable of Rockledge, Fla.; a daughter, Kathleen M. (Jerry Bryan) Vrable-Bryan of Canfield; a brother, Paul and a sister, Agnes (William) Janosko, both of Austintown; and three grandchildren, Josh, Katie and Zachary.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Steve, Joe, George (Chick), Al and Tom; and three sisters, Helen Saxon, Mary Yablonkai and infant sister, Veronica.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a 7 p.m. Parastas service at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.
