Lawrence Beharry, 60

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at The McCauley Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. in St. Columba Cathedral for Lawrence Beharry, 60, who passed Monday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mr. Beharry was born Dec. 25, 1948, in Sharon, Pa., a son of the late Dolores Walsh and came to this area in his late 20s.

He was a member of the Cathedral, a 1967 graduate of Hickory High school in Hermitage, Pa., and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He is survived by a brother, George Beharry III of Warren and his sisters, Kathleen Beharry and Nancy Manos.

Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Freddie D. Cash, 86

CLEVELAND – Freddie D. Cash, 86, formerly of Campbell, departed this life on April 14, at Cleveland Clinic.

He was the devoted husband of Rosalie (Harrison); father of Frederick Sr., Carmelita Shepherd, Frieda Capers and Andrea Anthory; brother of Rev. Samuel Cash of Georgia and Ralph Cash Sr. of Campbell; loving grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

He was a member of the Lane Metropolitan C.M.E. Church. He retired from the State of Ohio Liquor Department.

Funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Calhoun Funeral Home, 17010 Lakeshore Blvd. in Cleveland, where calling hours are from 10:30 to 11 a.m.


Louise M. Consiglio, 90

NILES – Louise M. Consiglio, 90, passed away Thursday morning at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.

She was born on April 28, 1918 in Warren, the daughter of Aniello and Rose Moskttine Patrone.

She was a devoted member of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, where she was involved with its Immaculate Conception Society and as a volunteer for its annual festival. Louise was also involved with T.O.P.S., Bagnoli Irpino Club and Leukemia Research Life Inc. in Detroit. She was previously employed at Packard Electric, General Electric, and Mollica’s Banquet Center in Niles.

Louise, who will be remembered for her dynamic personality, cooking and generosity will be missed by her husband, Paul D. Consiglio, whom she married on Dec. 9, 1941; two sons, Joseph Consiglio and his wife, Nancy of Girard and Nick Consiglio and his wife, Susanne of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; one brother, Nick Patrone of Niles; two sisters, Jeanette Caizza and her husband, Louis of Boardman and Isabelle Callard of Youngstown; six grandchildren, Jeanine, Jolene, Janelle, Joseph II, Marylouise and Nicholas; six great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Rosemary (Gerald) Fralick.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Ann Malone, Mary Veri and Philomena Hoffstetter.

Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where the Immaculate Conception Society and Mt. Carmel Bereavement Ministry will have prayers at 3:45 p.m..

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, preceded by a 9 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.

Internment will take place at Pineview Memorial Park.

Margaret O. Hanigosky, 78

MCDONALD – Margaret O. Hanigosky, 78, passed away Friday morning.

Margaret was born Aug. 2, 1930 in McDonald, the daughter of John and Suzana (Shogan) Oleksa.

She retired in 1991 from Packard Electric after 31 years of service.

Margaret loved her family and friends dearly. She was kind hearted, strong willed and generous.  Everyone was welcome at Margaret’s house. She made everyone feel at home.  She will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Youngstown. She enjoyed dancing, traveling with her sisters, spending time with her kids and grandkids and winning at the slots. Margaret also sponsored a child in Guatemala for over 15 years, Melissa Julietta Miranda Chun Chun.

Margaret married Anthony Hanigosky on July 14, 1951, and he passed away on July 24, 1973.

She is survived by two sons, John and Becky Hanigosky of Niles and James Hanigosky of Austintown; one daughter, Susan and Rick Teter of McDonald; one brother, Paul Oleksa of McDonald; three grandchildren, John, Christine and Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Benyo, Susie Trivanovich and Ann Senich and her two brothers, John “Yunko” Oleksa and John “Smiles” Oleksa

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the McClurkin Funeral Home. There will be prayers at 3:45 p.m., prior to the calling hours.

Funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church. There will be prayers at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, prior to the church Mass.

Anne Nespeca, 89

CANFIELD – Private funeral services were held at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel on Friday for Anne Nespeca, 89, who died Tuesday evening at her residence.

She was born Oct. 15, 1919, in Youngstown, the daughter of Angelo and Theresa Tiberio, and was a lifelong area resident.

Anne was a member of the Christian Life Center in Canfield. She graduated from Chaney High School and attended beautician school. She loved being a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and doing landscaping.

She is survived by children, Judy Nespeca, with whom she made her home, Cathy (Anthony) Musmanno of Mineral Ridge and Louis J. (Vicki) Nespeca Jr. of Sparksburg, S.C.; grandchildren Rachael Nespeca and Anthony Musmanno; sisters Carmel Giambattista of North Lima and Chris Moschella of Boardman; and sister-in-law Gloria Tiberio of Youngstown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis J. Nespeca, whom she married Feb. 11, 1956, and who died April 2, 1986; sisters Edith Dutch and Mary Donofrio; and brothers Vic and William Tiberio.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Christian Life Center in Anne’s name.

Roy S. Rothrauff, 57

BOARDMAN – Prayers will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Charles Church celebrated by Father Shawn Conoboy, for Roy S. Rothrauff, 57, who passed away Friday morning at the Hospice House.

Mr. Rothrauff was born May 15, 1951 in Pittsburgh, a son of John and Delorez Carr Rothrauff. 

Roy was the owner of Paragon Plastics in New Middletown. He was a member of the church and a Mason with the Bethel Lodge in Lower Burrell, Pa. He was a family oriented man.

Besides his wife, the former Michelle Bober, whom he married Feb. 6, 1971, he leaves a daughter, Melissa (Hugo) Silva of Columbus; two sons, John (Maureen) Rothrauff of Boardman and Roy M. (Marie) Rothrauff of Struthers; two sisters, Maureen Tekec of Winchester, Va. and Lori Pat DiLorenzo of Pittsburgh; and was the proud ”Papa” of three grandchildren, Matthew, Charles and Donovan.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Rothrauff.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Victoria Josephine Scarpine, 97

YOUNGSTOWN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church for Victoria Josephine Scarpine, 97, of Granada Avenue, who died Thursday evening at Liberty Health Care Center.

Josephine was born Jan. 16, 1912 in Bloomington, Ind., a daughter of Anthony and Maria Moderelli Scardine.

She was a clerk at S.H. Kress Co. and later a supervisor at McCrory Department Store in their bargain basement, retiring after more than 50 years of service. She was a member of the church and its Senior Cititzens Group.

She is survived by a brother, Albert Scarpine; her nephews, Albert, Anthony and Allen; also five grandnieces and grandnephews and three great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; other nephews, Michael R. (Paulette) Coppola Jr., Thomas (Judy) Coppola and Jon (Mary Beth) Coppola and four grandnieces and grandnephews; nephew Frank Marino and niece Marlene (Lee) Tincher and seven grandnieces and grandnephews and two great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Rose (Carl) Marino; her brother, James “Busty” Scarpine; her sister, Carmella Jane (Michael) Coppola Sr.; and a niece, Kathleen (Vince) Tincher.

Family and friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Schiavone Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Mary Ann Schettler, 79

POLAND – Mary Ann Schettler, 79, died April 16, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mrs. Schettler was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Youngstown, a daughter of Paul and Marie Chopan.

She was a graduate of South High School. Mrs. Schettler previously worked for Triangle Raincoat Company, Matthews Research, and for several department stores as a merchandiser, and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Holy Family Church in Poland. She was an avid bingo player and played at many bingo halls throughout the area. Her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Nana.”

Her husband, Donald L. Schettler, Sr., whom she married Sept. 25, 1949, died Aug. 22, 1979.

She leaves her son, Donald L. (Kim) Schettler Jr. of Poland and two grandchildren, Donny Louis Schettler III and Jenna Marie Schettler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Chopan and Marie Lesko and her sister, Francine Jordan.

Family and friends will be received Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.

A memorial Mass will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church.

Interment will be at Poland Riverside Cemetery.

Samuel Dominic Sebastian, 83

STRUTHERS – Samuel Dominic Sebastian, 83, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.

Sam was born on May 10, 1925, in Struthers, the eldest son of Pasquale and Florence Angelo Sebastian.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he participated in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. After serving his country, he received the Purple Heart of Honor. Sam was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the VFW Post 3538.

On April 3, 1948, Sam was united in marriage with the former Violet Marchionda. The couple was blessed with many wonderful years together, raising three sons and sharing their love with their four granddaughters.

Mr. and Mrs. Sebastian recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

He worked for The Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. and LTV Steel in Youngstown, where he was a steelworker. He retired in 1978 after 37 years of service.

Sam was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. He was a loyal husband, devoted father and supportive brother. His family and friends admired his strong sense of honesty and integrity, his contagious smile and his great sense of humor.

An avid golfer for many years, he enjoyed playing the area’s top golf courses with his sons, friends and co-workers, and was active in several golf leagues.

Besides his beloved wife, Violet, Sam is survived by three sons, Donald (Jennie) of Columbus, Samuel (Maria) of Poland and James (Betty) of Struthers; three brothers, Ralph (Elaine) of Florida, Patsy Jr. (Garnet) of Dayton and James (Margaret) of Canfield; and four granddaughters, Stefanie, Alyssa, Brianna and Sierra Sebastian.

Sam was preceded in death by his sisters, Viola Silvestri and Jeanette Petrock, and his parents.

Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers and at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church and will be officiated by Father James Marchionda, a nephew of Mr. Sebastian.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home in Struthers.

Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery.

Arlene Shackelford, 93

YOUNGSTOWN – Private calling hours and services will be Monday at the Thompson Funeral Home in Boardman for Arlene Shackelford, 93, who died Thursday afternoon at Briarfield Manor.

Arlene was born Nov. 4, 1915, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Fred T. and Gertrude W. Lewis.

She was a former member of the Glenwood Primitive Methodist Church and had attended the Bethel Assembly of God. Arlene had volunteered in various nursing homes and had been a caretaker for many friends and family. Her abiding love for Jesus Christ and her kindness touched everyone who knew her.

Her husband, Arthur Shackelford, whom she married June 2, 1937, died Nov. 3, 1967.

She leaves three grandchildren, Wendy Potkanowicz, Christine Bacha and Robert Shackelford; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides her parents and her husband, Arlene was preceded in death by her son, Robert Shackelford; three brothers, Fredrick Lewis, John Lewis and Arthur Lewis; and two sisters, Ethel Murray and Edith Lewis.


Allison Skruck, 51

WADSWORTH – Allison Skruck, 51, died Thursday, April 16, 2009.

She was born June 1, 1957 in Warren to the late Earl and Dolores Hudgins.

Mrs. Skruck was a member of the Living Hope United Methodist Church, where she was very faithful in running the food pantry, and was known for collecting teddy bears, a member of Wadsworth Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Ohio State Firefighters Association Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Earlene Hewitt.

Allison is survived by her husband, Larry; her sons, Jeff Terwilliger of Wadsworth and Michael (Carrie) of Chicago; granddaughter, Emily; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hope and Richard Myers of Wadsworth, Sandra Hudgins of Barberton and Mary and Doyle Haughney of Talihina, Okla.; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Pat Hudgins of Sterling, Mark and Angie Hudgins of Wamego, Kan. and Lee Bendel of Wadsworth; her niece, Chrissy Simmons of Wadsworth, along with her children, Matthew Scott, Savahana and Mason; and nephews, Mike (Kathy) Hudgins of Medina and David Hudgins of Akron.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St. in Wadsworth, with Pastor Dave McGrath officiating.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
