Annie B. Armour, 80

CINCINNATI – Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mrs. Annie B. Armour, 80, formerly of Youngstown, who went home to be with our Lord on Monday, April 20, 2009, at Majorie P. Lee Hospice of Cincinnati.

Annie was born June 5, 1928 in Talbottan, Ga., a daughter of Jonas and Beatrice Carter Bunkley.

She moved to Youngstown at the age of 16, and later met her former husband, the late Rev. Sylvester Armour. They were blessed with four sons and four daughters. She moved to Cincinnati in 2003, and was a loving and devoted mother and homemaker.

She leaves her cherished and blessed memories for her daughter, Leah Jackson of Cincinnati, with whom she made her home; four sons, Dru, Roy and Dwight (Lynette) Armour, all of Youngstown and Conrad Armour of Los Angeles; a sister, Mattie Snyder of Cleveland; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Lisa Armour Chiseley, Tammy Armour Johnson and Christy Armour Mayberry; and a granddaughter, Tahnee Ylonne Jackson.

Irene Helen Babbaro

CHILLICOTHE – Irene Helen Babbaro returned to her Creator, Lord, and Savior at 5:15 p.m. on April 19, 2009, at Heartland of Chillicothe.

Irene was born to the late Coleman Nemeth and Elizabeth Jacobs Nemeth in Youngstown on June 2, 1922.

She graduated from South High School in 1940. She worked as a legal secretary at McKelvey’s until she married the man of her dreams, Anthony “Tony” Babbaro in 1942. After relocating to Ithaca, N.Y., to follow Tony's experimental machining career at Cornell University, she was an executive secretary at Cornell University in the Religious Studies Department and in the Chemical Engineering Department.

She was predeceased by Tony Babbaro and her brother, Ted Nemeth.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Marie Babbaro (Richard) Sandy of Chillicothe and Rene Babbaro (Charles) Brucker of Pleasanton, Calif.; three grandchildren, Michael Anthony (Jean) Sandy of Indianapolis, and Carl Anthony and Margaret Elizabeth Brucker; four great-grandchildren, James, Claire, Emily and Joseph Sandy; nieces, Marianne DeGifis and Mary Lou Blazquez; nephews, Ralph Babbaro and Ted Nemeth Jr. of Easton, Md.; and cousin, Eugene (Margarite) Jacobs of Whispereing Pines, N.C.

She was an active member and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca and continued worship and bible study at the Westminster-Thuber Community in Columbus. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and President of P.T.A. and P.T.O.’s in Betty and Rene’s respective schools. She was asked to be a Hungarian interpreter at the Hungarian Presbyterian Church and at Cornell University on occasion.

Irene was an excellent seamstress, who made outfits, suits, and coats for the family. She loved to garden, tend to her rosebushes, knit, crewel embroider, cross stitch, and make frosty holiday candles. After retiring, she hosted Senior Citizens Trips with the AAA, and owned her own antique shop called, “Irene’s Antiques” on Slaterville Road for over 20 years, where she and Tony acquired skills in refinishing, caining, and upholstering.

She supported the SPEBSQSA Barbershop Chapter in Ithaca, where her husband, Tony, was the first Charter President of the organization. She even tried to sing a song or two with the guys!! Her favorites were “Put On an Old Pair of Shoes” and “The Old Songs.”

At Westminster-Thuber Community, she helped the activities director, Susie, with arrangements and organization for birthdays, crafts, gardening, and social gatherings and was asked to be the editor of a First Edition Newsletter, Eden Tree, which gives updates on events and news to share with everyone at Westminister.

She loved the Lord, her family and friends, enjoyed leadership roles, and wanted to spread God’s Love.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Szabo & Sons Funeral Home in Youngstown.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery.

Paul F. Barnes

AURORA – Paul F. Barnes passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009.

Mr. Barnes was born on March 17, 1921 in Youngstown, a son of Alfred and Helen Dunbar Barnes.

He returned from World War II, where he served as a medic, to learn the trade as a cabinet maker. He was an avid bowler and golfer. Paul was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Youngstown for over 75 years, where he frequently served as a deacon.

Paul leaves his wife of 62 years, the former Anola Bacher and their two daughters and their husbands, Leann and Robert Schaeffer and Luann and Ronald Warner. He also leaves three grandchildren, Mary Lu Schaeffer and Eric Barnes Warner and Sarah Jane Warner; and one brother, William Barnes.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Howard, William and Walter Barnes.

Services will be held on Friday, April 24, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1463 Shields Road, Youngstown, OH 44511.

Friends may call at the church one hour before the service, from 1 to 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family wants memorial contributions to be made to the Benevolence Fund at the church.

Hazel J. Bell, 79

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP – Hazel J. Bell, 79, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Hospice House.

Hazel was born March 20, 1930 to the late Earl Huey and Arveda Walke Leasure.

She worked 18 years as a nurse’s assistant at Northside Hospital, retiring in 1997.

She was a member of the Church Hill United Methodist Church, Faternal Order of Eagles–Ladies Auxillary, and enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by her children, Janet (John) Kalan of Hubbard, Lori (Robert) Hepfner of Girard, Bonnie (Keith) Duffy of Liberty Township, Gary (Judy) Bell of Howland, Dennis Bell of Liberty Township and Ralph (Darlene) Bell of Howland; sisters, Bernice MacElroy of New York, Frances Stouffer of Maryland and Freda Martino of Walston, Pa.; brothers, Clair of New Castle, Pa., Vernon of Rochester, Pa. and Billy and Leonard, both of Edinburg, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Bell, whom she married July 1, 1950 and he died Dec. 30, 1986; sister, Wyonetta McGinnis; and a grandson, Michael Jordan.

Services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home, where visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Internment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Ronald S. Boles, 69

BROOKFIELD – Ronald S. Boles, 69, died early Monday morning, April 20, 2009, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Ronald was born April 30, 1939 in Youngstown, the son of Joseph While Sr. and Nettie L. (Boles) While. He was the oldest of 13 children. He had six brothers and six sisters.

Ronald served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era.

He was employed as a truck driver for Commercial Motor Freight, retiring in 1993 after 27 years of service.

Ronald married Wanda (Odom) Boles on Sept. 11, 1975.

He leaves behind Wanda, his wife of 33 years; two sons, Ronald (Nancy) Boles of N.C. and Jacob (Jane) Boles of Boardman; three daughters, Darlene (Bob) Lipscomb of Champion, Evelyn (Edward) Neeley of Kinsman and Cynthia (Phil) Morad of Niles; five brothers; five sisters; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding Ronald in death are his parents; his brother, Richard A. While; and his sister, Lynette While.

Calling hours will be Friday from noon to 2 p.m.

The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna.

Alberta L. Crisp, 80

HUBBARD – There will be funeral services at noon on Thursday at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for Alberta L. Crisp, 80, who passed away Monday morning at home.

Alberta was born Dec. 6, 1928 in Rimersburg, Pa., a daughter of Wilber G. Saylor and Twila R. Miller Greenawalt.

She was a homemaker and was of the Protestant faith. She loved spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing puzzles.

Her first husband, Mason LaVerne Forringer, passed away in 1964, and her second husband, Donald V. Crisp, passed away March 22, 2004.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Patricia (Donald) McIlveen of Hubbard, with whom she made her home; her grandsons, Sean and Colin McIlveen; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Miranda Hassey. She also leaves her brother, Harold Saylor of Parker, Pa. and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Mason LaVerne Forringer; her second husband, Donald V. Crisp; and her brother, Wilber Saylor.

There will be calling hours on Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.

Geraldine “Gerry” Quatro, 73

YOUNGSTOWN – There was a Mass of Christian Burial held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown, with the Rev. Msgr. John A. Zuraw officiating for Geraldine “Gerry” Quatro, 73, who peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009.

Gerry will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends.

She was born Aug. 29, 1935 in Youngstown, the daughter of Tony and Mary (Costarell) Quatro and was a lifelong area resident.

Gerry was a member of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and attended the MRDD Workshop. She loved to color and enjoyed being around people.

She leaves behind to hold on to her memories a brother, Richard “Dick” Quatro of Boardman; a sister, Virginia Allen of Canfield; two nephews, Rick (Joan) Pavliga of Columbus and Michael Quatro of Hubbard; a niece, Joni Frklech of Boardman; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Burial took place at Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Turning Point Residential and Hospice of the Valley for the care given to Gerry during her time with them.

Ruth Edna Rozenblad

YOUNGSTOWN – “A woman of God gone home” on Wednesday morning, April 15, 2009, “God dispersed His angels to Forum Health Northside Medical Center, where they gently and lovingly took the hand of Mother Ruth Edna Rozenblad, mounted that sweet chariot and journeyed home to be with her Lord.”

Mother Rozenblad was born Feb. 25, 1929 in Headland, Ala., a daughter of Mack and Bertha Lee McGlond McCray, coming to this area in 1949.

Mother Rozenblad had worked at Northside Hospital for 17 years in housekeeping, retiring as an X-ray transporter in 1985.

She was a member, evangelist and senior mother of the Jesus Is the Way Ministry in Warren, where she also served as musician and singer. Mother Rozenblad was known throughout the greater Youngstown-Warren area as a servant of God, who would lend her talents of playing the piano and singing wherever she would attend services. Her witness of the power of healing from God after a stroke gave many the encouragement and determination to seek out the “Good News.”

Her many hobbies, included her love for gardening (flowers and vegetable gardens), crocheting, knitting, and baking (she was known for her caramel cakes).

Her husband, Julius, whom she married May 27, 1950, passed away Oct. 19, 2008.

She will be fondly remembered by her four loving children, Glenda (Johnnie) Williams of Boardman, Julius (Ruby) Rozenblad of New Bern, N.C. and James E. (Sylvia) Rozenblad and Annette Rozenblad, both of Youngstown; two sisters, Lizzie (Rides Gene) Wilson of Panama City, Fla. and Lalar Pruitt of Los Angeles; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Tyrone; four brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Ebenezer C.O.G.I.C. Funeral services will follow immediately at 11 a.m. at the church.

Mary Therese Sandy-Neville, 50

MASON – Mary Therese Sandy-Neville, 50, was the beloved wife of Russell E.; dear mother of Taylor M. Neville; stepmother of Brandie N. Combs; daughter of Mary Sandy (Calo) and Joseph Sandy; stepdaughter of Patricia Sandy; sister of Elizabeth Sandy-Kremer; stepsister of Robert Pomaro (Janis), Mark Pomaro (Marina) and Lisa Pomaro; and aunt of Billy Kremer and Jennifer, Angelina and Armando Pomaro.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Angeline and Philip Calo and Margaret and Ralph Sandy; aunt, Rita Calo Stroup; and niece, Shannon Pomaro.

She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins and godmother, Patty Floryjanski.

She passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009.

Mary attended St. Nicholas grade school and graduated from Struthers High School in 1976, before graduating from Youngstown State University in 1980 with a degree in Criminal Justice. Mary worked as an advocate for battered women, a police officer for the City of Youngstown, an agent for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and a special agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration, from which she retired in 2008.

Mary fought a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer for 27 months.

Visitation was held on April 13, at the Mueller Parker Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road in Mason.

A funeral Mass was held on April 14, at St. Susanna Church, 616 Reading Road in Mason.

A memorial Mass and celebration of Mary’s life will also be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at St. Charles Church in Boardman, where friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the memorial Mass.

Norma L. (Colbrunn) Wellington, 74

PALMETTO, FLA. – Memorial services will be at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard on Friday, April 24, at 7 p.m. for Norma L. (Colbrunn) Wellington, 74, formerly of Liberty Township, who passed away Feb. 27, 2009, “to remember our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.”

She was a 1952 graduate of Liberty High School.

Norma married Alvin Wellington in 1954 and they raised four children, Leonard, Robert, Sandra and Amy, while residing for over 40 years on Leslie Lane in Liberty Township.

Norma and Alvin moved to Palmetto in 2003, where she was called home to be with “our Lord.”

Arrangements are being handled by Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard.

Helen Kathryn Witt

YOUNGSTOWN– Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Friday at The McCauley Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Church for Helen Kathryn Witt, of Osborne Avenue. Helen died Monday afternoon at Forum Health Northside Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born on April 11, 1934, the daughter of Francis and Helen Bixler Witt.

Helen was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Chaney High School and Ursuline College in Cleveland. She worked for many years as a dietitian at Northside Hospital, and retired from Woodside Receiving Hospital. She enjoyed traveling, and was a devoted caregiver to her parents in the last years of their lives.

Helen leaves her brother, Fr. William Witt of Austintown; 17 nieces and nephews; 38 great-nieces and great-nephews; six great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and her friend, Ray Ong.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Governor, Francis, Frederick and Howard Witt; her sister, Ruth Witt; and her nephew, Daniel Jude Witt.

Calling hours will be held at The McCauley Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
