Ronald Bissett, 69

BOARDMAN – There will be a funeral service held on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave. in Boardman, with Pastor Kelly Marshall officiating for Ronald Bissett, 69, who passed away April 26, 2009, with his loving family and friends by his side after a courageous seven month battle with cancer.

Ronald will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends.

He was born May 14, 1939 in Sligo, Pa., and moved to the Youngstown area in 1950. He was the son of Edward M. and Dorothy A. (Kifer) Bissett.

Ronald was employed with the Youngstown Board of Education as a custodian for 32 years and retired in 1988.

He was a 1957 graduate of North High School, attended Youngstown State University, and then graduated from the New Castle School of Trades.

Ronald was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church, their Men’s Club, where he enjoyed helping make chili, along with being an usher.

He was a member of the Mahoning Valley Old Car Club, Youngstown Men’s Bowling League, and the Senior Mixed League at Camelot Lanes.

Ronald was an avid bowler and received a perfect 300 game ring and watch on April 22, 1997, and on Dec. 6, 1999, he bowled a game of 279 pins and had a series 720 game.

Ronald’s passions were working around his home, antique cars, NASCAR, and his beloved dog, Coco.

He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories, his wife of over 45 years, the former Rose Marie Zitto, whom he married July 13, 1963; a sister, Norma Perov of Rensselaer, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Annette (John) Ragan of Youngstown; lifelong friends, Charles (Sharyn) Kennedy of Struthers; loving nieces and nephews, Debbie Lewis, Jeff (Charlene) Perov, Darlene Ingram, Donna Sue Perov, Marianne (Shawn) Donley, JoAnn Ragan, John Anthony Ragan (fiancé Kalah), Todd (Wendy) Kennedy and Beth (Max) Fightmaster; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call today, April 29, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman and on Thursday, April 30, 2009, from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave. in Boardman.

Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Veronica R. Dattilo, 87

CAMPBELL – Veronica R. Dattilo, 87, passed away early Monday morning, April 27.

She was born Feb. 22, 1922 in Youngstown, the daughter of John and Helen (Mihalik) Taybus.

Veronica was employed by Hills Department Store as a stock clerk and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church.

Her husband, Joseph Dattilo, whom she married in July of 1941, passed away in 1991.

Veronica will always be remembered by her three children, Judy (Mike) Elchuck of Struthers, Jerry Dattilo of Austintown and Janice (Frank) Capuzello of Struthers; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Reid of California; and a brother, Edward Taybus of Hillsville, Pa.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Danalyn Capuzello; a great-grandson, Zachary Davanzo; three sisters, Helen Macko, Mary Yanek and Martha Taybus; and two brothers, Albert and John Taybus.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.



Lucy M. Gabriel, 82

YOUNGSTOWN – Lucy M. Gabriel, 82, died Sunday.

She was born Feb. 16, 1927 in Youngstown, a daughter of Lebanese descents Thomas and Frieda (Rezek) Gabriel.

Lucy was a lifelong resident of the East Side and attended Sacred Heart School and St. Stephen’s Church. Lucy was a member of St. Maron Church and the St. Tobias Society and a former member of the 25 Club of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon.

Lucy worked at Superior Aluminum and liked to garden. She especially liked dancing at the Petri Club and Avon Oaks.

She was the family caregiver, taking care of her mother and father while they lived, and her brothers and sisters and their families as needed.

The family includes nieces, Cathy Aigner and Sherrill Johnson and a host of other nieces and nephews. She cherished them all.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a twin sister, Bonnie; five brothers, Joseph Gabriel, Paul Gabriel, George Gabriel, Shamp Gabriel and Mack Gabriel; and two sisters, Helen Ballabon and Mary Nofel.

Calling hours are Thursday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Maron Church, 1555 S. Meridian Road, followed by Mass at 11 a.m.

Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions to St. Maron Church.

Mildred Hunter, 68

YOUNGSTOWN – A funeral service will be at noon on Thursday at the Greater Friendship Baptist Church for Mildred Hunter, 68, who departed this life Friday, April 24, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. Hunter was born May 10, 1940 in Kanapolis, N.C., a daughter of Leroy and Lillie Moore Bolder.

Mrs. Hunter was a supervisor at the former Little Forest Nursing Home and a member of the church.

Her husband, Willie J. Hunter, whom she married June 4, 1966, died Aug. 13, 2001.

She leaves a daughter, Crystal (Alton) Marshall of Mobile, Ala.; a brother, Paul (Elva) Bolder of Youngstown; grandchildren, DeNae J. and Aleigha C. Marshall, an uncle, Tom Moore and aunts, Betty Griffin and Anne Bush, all of Youngstown; a nephew, Paul (Tammi) Bolder II; and a great-nephew, Paul Bolder III.

Besides her parents, her aunts, Nell and Rachel Moore and uncles, Ralph and J.W. Moore, preceded her in death.

Viewing will be from noon to 4 p.m. today at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home Inc.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Kenneth LeRoy Love, 75

KINSMAN — A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home in Niles for Kenneth LeRoy Love, 75, who died Monday at 8 a.m. at UPMC Greenville Horizon.

Mr. Love was born April 14, 1934, in Warren and was raised in Niles, a son of George and Elnora Cluse Love, graduating from Niles McKinley High School .

A veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict, he had been employed by the RMI Corporation, and was a Trumbull County Sheriff’s detective under the administration of Sheriff Robert W. Barnett, and later became chief criminal investigator for county prosecutor J. Walter Dragelevich. He led the investigation that resulted in the arrest of John Tidwell, for the 1978 murders of retired Copperweld Steel president, Walter Holmquist and his wife, and was commended by the Orange County, California, District Attorney for enabling the arrest of Tidwell for a murder in that jurisdiction.

As a member of MAT, the first tri-county drug investigation squad, he worked undercover to trace drug trafficking through Mahoning, Ashtabula and Trumbull counties.

He enjoyed motorcycling, and his later years were devoted to indulging his lifelong love of horses and riding. In the last decade, he spent summers as trail boss in a riding camp five miles inside the Allegheny National Forest in Marienville, Pa., and for the past few winters, worked on a cattle ranch and orange orchard in Fort Meade, Fla. He and his wife kept a variety of horses, mostly Arabians and Quarter Horses, on their Kinsman farm.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Kenneth Love and his first wife, the former Dianne Kotsol.

Ken is survived by his wife, the former Emily Webster, whom he married Oct. 18, 1996; his son, Michael of Columbiana; two daughters, Debra Lee Love and her fiance, Dale Cole of Girard and Karen Hughes and her husband, Carl of Fowler Township; two stepchildren, Marietta Brzeczek of Kinsman and Thomas Brzeczek of Melbourne, Fla.; a sister, Lesta (Ben) Clark of Irving, Texas; a brother, Robert (Karen) Shepherd of Chelsea, Mich.; eight grandsons; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and an hour prior to the service on Friday.

Tributes will be most appreciated if they take the form of contributions to the Disabled American Veterans, the Second Harvest Food Bank, or the donor’s favorite charity.

Leo Nail, 67

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be a funeral service held on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Victory Christian Center, 3899 McCartney Road in Coitsville, with Pastor Joseph Thomas officiating for Leo Nail, 67, who passed away on Friday evening, April 24, 2009.

Leo will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends.

He was born Dec. 26, 1941 in Youngstown, the son of Leo A. and Frances (Caruso) Nail, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was employed with the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company for three years and then was employed with Lofaro Concrete Company for 30 years as a cement finisher, where Santie Lofaro was not only his father-in-law but was also his best friend.

Leo was a 1959 graduate of East High School and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Santo Domingo. He was a squad leader for his company along with being part of the Special Forces Airborne Unit.

Leo always put the Lord as the center of his life and was an active member at the Victory Christian Center. He was involved in the choir, the street ministry, on the drama team, the Veteran’s Bible Study, and was active for the last 20 years in every production, but was most noted for his role as “Nick the Bartender” from A Wonderful Life.

Leo enjoyed playing the guitar, watching movies, and helping others but he mostly loved just being around people.

He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories, his wife of over 45 years, the former Sandra Lofaro, whom he married March 28, 1964; four children, Leo Charles Nail Jr., Annie M. (Ali) Omran and Debbie (Patrick) Gabrelcik, all of Youngstown and Connie K. (Joshua) Benner of Girard; 12 grandchildren, Katie and Jessica Nail, Brittany (Joshua) McGaffic, Patrick Jr., Kristen, April, Justen, Amanda, Johnathan, Amber and Ashley Gabrelcik and Isaac Benner; four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Arnie, Nicholas and Kaylee; his mother-in-law, Ann Lofaro, whom he used to always call “Hey Ma”; along with his beloved dog, Bruno.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call today, April 29, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman and on Thursday, April 30, 2009, from 10 to 10:50 a.m. at the Victory Christian Center, 3899 McCartney Road in Coitsville.

Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Trumbull County American Legion.

Alberta L. Miller Pannunzio, 92

CAMPBELL – Private funeral services were held at the Wasko Funeral Home for Alberta L. Miller Pannunzio, 92, who passed away Saturday at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Alberta was born July 6, 1916 in Chanute, Kan., the daughter of Albert and Maggie Sherman Miller, and was a resident of Campbell for 63 years.

After graduating high school in Chanute, Alberta worked in an ammunitions factory in Kansas City during World War II.

Her husband, Hugo Pannunzio, whom she married Feb. 11, 1943, passed away June 12, 1994.

She was a member of St. Lucy Church, the Campbell Senior Citizens and Post 560 American Legion Auxiliary.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Hugh B. (Janet Fraile) Pannunzio of Poland and Duane J. (Cindy Millward) Pannunzio of Campbell; six grandchildren, Duane, Ryan and Jocelyn Pannunzio, Christina and Danielle Millward and Melissa Almos; six great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Rinaldo Pannunzio of Campbell and John Millich of Austintown; and 11 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; six brothers and sisters, including her twin brother, Albert; and two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Pannunzio and Angeline Millich.

The Pannunzio family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home.


James W. Phillips, 88

CINCINNATI – Mr. James W. Phillips, 88, formerly of Vienna, died on Friday, April 24, 2009, at 7:15 p.m. at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati after a brief illness.

James was born in Brookfield on June 8, 1920, the son of the late George W. and Mary E. (King) Phillips.

Mr. Phillips went on to serve his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. His decorations and citations include the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Award, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Following the war, he went on to marry the former Rita D. Curry on May 15, 1948. Together they would share 54 years of marriage.

Mr. Phillips worked as an automotive mechanic at Clyde Cole Motors for more than 43 years before his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Vienna VFW Post No. 3521 and St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Vienna.

Earlier in life, he enjoyed bowling in numerous leagues. His lifelong passions included fishing, shooting pool and golf. His life was enriched by the companionship of his dogs, Casey, Rascal, and Rex, with whom he enjoyed taking daily walks.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his two sons, Jim Phillips and his wife, Joanne of Charleston, S.C. and Paul Phillips and his wife, Janet of Loveland; two daughters, Peg Bruggeman and her husband, John of Cincinnati and Edith Phillips of Cleveland; and two grandsons, Matthew and Nathan Phillips also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2003; his parents; and his sister, Margaret King.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Frank Zanni, pastor.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Madasz Funeral Chapel in Brookfield.

Burial will be at Brookfield Township Cemetery, where full military honors will be held.

Mary L. Repaskey, 86

POLAND – Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church, both in Struthers for Mary L. Repaskey, 86, who died Monday surrounded by her family.

Mary was born Jan. 6, 1923 in Trenton, N.J., a daughter of John and Anna Dostal Smrecansky.

She married Frank R. Repaskey on June 30, 1945.

Mary was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church.

She leaves behind her son, Ronald R. (Joann) Repaskey of Austintown; a daughter, Denise M. Repaskey of Poland; two brothers, John (Rose) Smrecansky of Youngstown and Robert (Dorothy) Smrecansky of Boardman; one sister, Cel (Bill) Paris of Hubbard; three grandchildren, Richard Repaskey and fiancée Eva, Jennifer (Stuart) Repaskey McMullan and Laura (Brian) Repaskey Kirby; and four great-grandchildren, Casimir, Aristeo, Jared and Jeremy.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, who died Jan. 11, 1992; three brothers, Johnny, Joseph and Frank; and one sister, Ann Hessler.

Robert William Slemons

DALLAS – Mr. Robert William Slemons was born Jan. 13, 1931 in Youngstown, the oldest son of William and Marion (McMillen) Slemons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; youngest brother, Howard; and a grandson, Jonathan Day.

He is survived by his wife, Leola, whom he married in 1975; his brother, Leonard of Hubbard; four children, daughters, Bonnie Reyes of Carrollton, Texas, Renee Dreier of Warren and Christine Slemons of Oklahoma and son, Brian of Lakeland, Fla.; nine living grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two stepchildren; one step grandson; and two step great-grandchildren.

The Heritage Cremation Services Inc. is making arrangements.

He will be interred at Belmont Cemetery in Youngstown.


Joey Warmoth, 29

DOUGLASVILLE, GA. – Mr. Joey Warmoth, 29, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born March 18, 1980 in Youngstown.

Mr. Warmoth is survived by his son, Grant Warmoth; parents, Jim and June Warmoth; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Stephanie Warmoth and Jason and Stephanie Warmoth; nieces, Sagan, Leila and Kenley Warmoth; nephew, Tatum Warmoth; grandmother, Peg Warmoth-Pallante and grandfather, Andrew Gavalier, both of Youngstown; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends today, April 29, 2009, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 30, 2009, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home in Douglasville.

The funeral service will be Friday, May 1, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Rosehaven Chapel, with Johnny Abercrombie officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehaven Memorial Park.

Donna J. Wilson, 69

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman for Donna J. Wilson, 69, who passed away Monday morning at Ivy Woods  Manor.

Mrs. Wilson was born July 1, 1939 in Youngstown, a daughter of Raymond and Nellie Mae Pitts Welsh and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a graduate of South High School and a homemaker.

Her husband, Kenneth J. Wilson, whom she married Oct. 19, 1963, died Dec. 28, 2002.

She leaves two daughters, Dorothy Skaggs of Girard and Diane Williams of Boardman; two sons, Donald Wilson of Liberty and Kenneth Wilson Jr. of Chicago; three brothers, Raymond L. Welsh of Warren and James Welsh and Ronald Welsh, both of Lisbon; a sister, Juanita Welsh of Boardman; and five grandchildren.

Betty Jane Yacovone, 81

LAKE MILTON – A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with Fr. Stephen Popovich officiating, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:30 a.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Betty Jane Yacovone, 81, who passed away at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Humility House in Austintown.

Betty Jane was born June 27, 1927 in Campbell, the daughter of the late Cosmo and Anna (Crano) Rich, and was a 1946 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.

Betty Jane was a homemaker, and in the 1970s, was a food service worker with the Jackson Milton School district for several years. Prior to her marriage, she also worked as a clerk at the Mahoning County Courthouse.

Betty Jane is survived by her husband of 59 years, Nick E. Yacovone, whom she married Sept. 10, 1949, and together they shared three children, Randall A. (Rose Ann) Yacovone of Pittsburgh, Lynette M. (Richard) Cadle of North Jackson and Debra A. (James) Steinhaus of Columbus and three grandchildren, Corbin Steinhaus, Anne Marie Cadle and Christine Steinhaus. Also surviving are two brothers, Dr. Patrick (Eleanor) Rich of Akron and Dr. Robert (Phyllis) Richiutti of Poland.

Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Lesko.

Family will receive friends today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

The family suggest that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the Rich Center for Autism.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Humility House for their care and concern that they showed to Betty Jane and her family.
