Mary Conti, 86

BOARDMAN – The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, with Father John Karabatsos at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 220 N. Walnut St. in Youngstown for Mary Conti, 86, who passed away early Monday morning, May 4.

Mary was born Sept. 25, 1922 in Youngstown, the daughter of William and Sophie (Orphanos) Lymber.

She was employed in the grocery industry and was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers. Mary loved cooking and watching the Food Channel. She always made sure her family was taken care of.

Mary will always be remembered by her son, William Conti of Boardman, with whom she made her home; two grandchildren, William Conti Jr. of Youngstown and Denise (Matt) Lockwood of Boardman; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Phillip.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Conti; two brothers, Sam and Pete Lymber; and her dog, Pepper whom she adored.

Friends may call from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

Dennis S. Currie

NEW CASTLE, PA. – Dennis S. Currie, passed away the morning of Saturday, May 2, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Currie was born on Aug. 29, 1957 in New Castle to the late Russell K. and Agnes M. Baker Currie.

Dennis married the former Kelly P. Clark on Sept. 29, 1979. She survives.

Mr. Currie was a structural iron worker with the Local 207 Union for 30 years. He also enjoyed bowling in his spare time.

In addition to his wife, Kelly, survivors include one daughter, Amanda Currie of Pittsburgh; one son, Jason Currie and daughter-in-law, Maria Matuscak of Windsor, Ontario; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene R. and Cheryl Currie and Ralph E. and Janet Currie, all of New Castle; two sisters, Denice Currie and Jean Sarbo and her husband, David of New Castle; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will be receiving visitors at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA 16105, today, May 5, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Dennis will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., with Pastor Matthew Bupp officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

James Alfred Davisson, 55

YOUNGSTOWN – James Alfred Davisson, 55, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

He was born Aug. 19, 1953 in Steubenville, the son of the late Donald Ray and Bessie Loretta (Robeson) Davisson.

He was a graduate of Carrollton High School in the class of 1971. He was a Navy veteran. He enjoyed gardening, working around the house, and family.

He married Annie Crucian on Oct. 13, 2001, who survives, along with two sons, Donald James Davisson and David Edward Davisson, both of Carrollton; two daughters, Candy Davisson and her companion, “Nikki,” and Loretta Sue Yingling and her husband, Nick, all of Carrollton; one stepson, Garrett Arthur Crucian of Youngstown; two brothers, Fred (Lora) Davisson of Ocean Springs, Miss. and Clint Davisson of Texas; one sister, Dianna (Jack) Hardesty of Carrollton; five grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Deborah Davisson and an infant sister.

A funeral service will be on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Allmon-Dugger-Cotton Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will follow at Scroggsfield Cemetery with full military honors by the V.F.W., D.A.V. and American Legion.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, May 7, 2009, from noon to 1 p.m., one hour prior to the funeral service.

Elizabeth Glinatsis, 83

BOARDMAN – Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Charles Church, celebrated by Father David Merzweiler for Elizabeth Glinatsis, who passed away Saturday morning at her home.

Gladys Elizabeth Glinatsis was born July 27, 1925 in Youngstown, a daughter of Dennis and Adelaide Fraser Mulhall.

She graduated from Ursuline High School in 1943 and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a member of the church.

Her husband, George M. Glinatsis, passed away in 1993.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Paula (Robert) Wennergren of West Lebanon, N.H.; four sons, Michael Glinatsis of Boardman, Peter Glinatsis of Boardman, James (Doxie) Glinatsis of Rocky River and George (Sara) Glinatsis of Denver; a sister, Olive Friedman of Cleveland; and two grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth Glinatsis.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home.

Clyde D. Hubler, 83

BOARDMAN – Services will be held at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown on Thursday at 11 a.m. for Clyde D. Hubler, 83, who passed away Sunday.

Clyde was born in Salem on May 21, 1925, a son of James and Viola Thomas Hubler.

He was a sergeant in the Army during World War II and was a personal bodyguard to General Douglas McArthur in the Philippines.

He married Lenna B. Newell on Oct. 11, 1946.

He was a sheet metal worker with Local No. 33 for 61 years, and retired in 1988. He was a member of the Washingtonville VFW, Eagles of Salem, Moose Lodge of Port St. Lucy Florida.

He leaves his wife, Lenna Hubler; two daughters, Debra Caro of Boardman and Linda Hritz of Poland; 10 grandchildren, Anthony (Michelle) Carosella, Michelle Carosella, Angie Carosella, Lynette Carosella, Nino Carosella, Robert P. Layshock Jr., Terri (Justin) Gaydos, Amanda S. Caro, John I (Andrea) Hritz and Dylan Z. (Nicole) Hritz; six great-grandchildren, Alyssa Carosella, Lauren Stout, Amber Pine, Tyler Blake, Joey Carosella and Saireth Hritz; a nephew, James (Julie) Hubler; and a niece, Beverly (Edward) Schenk.

Michael Kovacich, 53

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home for Michael Kovacich, 53, who entered into rest early Sunday morning.

Michael was born on Dec. 31, 1955, the son of the late, Thomas G. Kovacich and Helen R. White.

He was a graduate of Chaney High School in 1973. Michael was a machinist at Glunt Industries in Warren for 20 years.

Michael enjoyed target shooting, his family, and was a father to everyone.

Michael was loved by all and will be missed dearly by many, including his one son, Thomas M. Kovacich of Youngstown; one daughter, Deniel Robinette of Warren; two sisters, Beverly (Robert) Stash of Austintown and Linda King of Orchard Park, N.Y.; and one grandson, Anthony James Sposetta.

Josephine “Phina” Kralj, 76

“Together Again”

BOARDMAN – Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Charles Church for Josephine “Phina” Kralj, 76, who passed away Saturday, peacefully with her children and her dog, Dakota at her bedside.

She was born Nov. 15, 1932 in Vischegrad, Yugoslavia, a daughter of Johann and Anna Semlitsch Engelmann.

Josephine was a member of St. Charles Church.

She met her husband in a refugee camp in Austria (Heimatbuch, Haid) between 1944 and 1951. Josephine married Anton Kralj on Aug. 4, 1951 and they remained in the camp until 1952.

On April 6, 1955, she went to Springfield, Ill., with Anton and their three children, Anna, Tony and Walter. The family moved to Youngstown in 1956, where they had two more children, Joe and Peggy.

Her greatest enjoyments were being a homemaker and mother, not only to her family, but to all who came into her home. Around the kitchen table, she shared stories about the refugee camp, friendships, family and her real home cooking and her awesome baking, especially her homemade donuts which were loved by all.

Josephine left a lasting impression with her warm gentle smile which was acknowledged by others. She loved to crochet and knit, watch Turner Classic movies and listen to Croatian music on Sunday mornings. In her younger days, she enjoyed traveling overseas to visit her family and was an avid ballroom dancer. She and her husband won awards doing the Polka and Tango.

Josephine is survived by two sons, Anton, with whom she made her home and Walter (Kathy) of Austintown; two daughters, Anna Marie Shorthouse of Boardman and Peggy (Lawrence) Button of Boardman; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Kralj Peloza of Poland; grandchildren, Mark Shorthouse, Staff Sgt. Michael Shorthouse in the U.S. Marine Corps, Michael J. Gismondi, Kristen Gismondi, Rachele Best, Melissa Jackson and Stefanie Kralj; and eight great-grandchildren, including Peyton and Cadence Shorthouse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton, who passed away June 9, 2007; a son, Joseph, who passed away May 6, 1989; three sisters, Albine Knapp, Greta Doffinger and Elsa Jacolivich; and three brothers, Ernst, Adolf and Johann Engelmann.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Szabo & Sons Funeral Home in Youngstown and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of the Valley.

The family is deeply grateful to those who comforted Josephine during her last years, Dr. Spratt, the staff at Greenbrier, Gentiva (Tony), Shepherd of the Valley, Hospice of the Valley, (especially Cheryl, Kim, Karen, Nancy, Fran Beth and Kelly) for their dedicated care, compassion and support. They would also like to acknowledge her good friend, Gloria, who provided company when needed.

Her memory will be cherished by all who were blessed to know her. She was a strong women, a people person, a true giver and loved her children unconditionally.

Margaret E. “Peg” Nell

CANFIELD - Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery Chapel for Margaret E. “Peg” Nell, of Canfield. She died peacefully in her home on May 3, 2009.

Daughter of the late Isabella and John Nell, sister of the late Ruth N. Griffith, sister-in-law of Joseph H. Griffith Jr. of Yorktown, Va. Beloved aunt of Joseph and Lee Griffith of Franklin, Mass. and C. William Griffith and Luis M. Cosme of Barcelona, Spain. Also survived by five great-nephews and two great-nieces. Like a mother to Diane and Bill Eaton of Columbiana.

Peg attended South High School, and completed a two year business course at the then Youngstown College. She worked for 53 years for The Roy C. Eaton Company in Youngstown and managed the company for her final ten years.

She was a lifelong member and past president of the American Business Women’s Association. In addition, she was a member of the Saxon Club, Youngstown Club and the Salem Golf Club.

Peg was an avid bridge player, admirer of nature and supporter of the theater.

Her miniature Schnauzer, Missy, was her pride and joy.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home.

Eleanor E. Deramo Pica, 84

CAMPBELL – Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Lucy Church for Eleanor E. Deramo Pica, 84, who passed away Sunday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Eleanor was born Feb. 12, 1925 in Bugnara, Italy, the daughter of Damiano and Giovanna Deramo, came to America as an infant, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, and retired as a sales representative from Hills Department Store in Youngstown.

She was a member of the church, its Altar and Rosary Society and Infant Jesus of Prague Guild.

Eleanor was a loving mother and grandmother, and leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Pasquale Pica, with whom she made her home, Alessio John (Lena) Pica and Annette (Anthony) Rossodivita; one brother, Tony Deramo; two sisters, Blanche (Pat) Deramo and Florence (Deramo) George; eight grandchildren, Monica, Heather, Sonja, Nicholas, Christopher, Anthony, Bryan and Jerett; six great-grandchildren, Leah, Max, Alexa, Dallas, Anthony James and Ariana; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The Pica family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home, and will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Donald Patrick Shea, 71

GIRARD – Donald Patrick Shea, 71, formerly of Second Street, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at St. Charles-Mercy Hospital in Oregon, Ohio.

Donald was born in Youngstown on Aug. 19, 1937, the son of the late Martin J. and Anne (Carey) Shea.

After high school, he served in the U.S. Army, attended George Washington University and finished his education at Youngstown State University. In the early 1960s, Donald worked for the Burroughs Office Equipment Co. in Youngstown and most recently at Riverview Industries in Oak Harbor.

During his years in Girard, he attending daily Mass and was very active at St. Rose Church.

He enjoyed reading and watching horse racing.

Donald is survived by his brother, Maurice Shea of Girard and nephew and nieces, Michael Shea and Kathleen Anne Shea of Spring Hill, Fla. and Dr. Laura R. Shea (Dr. Brian Mosora) of Meadeville, Pa.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Shea; and sister, Nancy Shea-Leatherman.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Rose Church in Girard.

Friends may call at the church from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Interment will be at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.

Contributions may be made in his name to St. Rose School’s Angel Fund, 61 Main St., Girard, OH 44420.

Local arrangements were handled by the McClurkin Funeral Home in Girard.
