Pauline Wise, 82

POLAND – An open memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Good Hope Lutheran Church of North Lima for Pauline Wise, 82, a courageous and multi-faceted woman of Poland, formerly of the Boardman area, who passed away peacefully early Monday morning at the Woodlands of Hampton Woods surrounded by family and friends.

Calling hours will precede the memorial service from 6 to 7 p.m.

The former Pearl Pauline Opritza was born on Jan. 29,1927 to Nicholas and Anna Opritza.

She grew up on the east side of Youngstown and began her business career at Parson’s Insurance Agency.

Pauline married William Francis Wise on June 30, 1946 and they spent 60 wonderful years together.

Her husband, Bill “Buzz” Wise was the owner/operator of Boardman Auto Parts on Market Street for 25 years along with Pauline and their son Bill Jr., and she was the very first woman in the area employed at an auto parts store, quickly winning over the confidence of the male customers.

She was later employed by J.C. Penney Co. at the Southern Park Mall for 20 years and again broke barriers by being the first woman ever on the automotive counter, then was promoted to fine jewelry and spent years as “the real gem” of the fine jewelry counter.

She later helped customers get healthy at La Vie Naturelle (later renamed Living Naturally Health Foods) owned by her daughter, Evelyn.

Pauline was a former member of the Paradise Lutheran Church and is a current member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church.

Her friends and family especially enjoyed savoring her “world famous pies” and were inspired by her dedication to her grandchildren, as far away as California. Pauline loved her role as “Super Granny.”

She leaves behind three talented children who share many happy memories, Evelyn Wise of Boardman, William (Nancy) Wise of Simi Valley, Calif., and Dr. Richard (Toni) Wise of Poland; and four beautiful, multi-faceted grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by husband, Bill; brother, Nick Opritza; and sister, Ann Y. Smith.

Friends and family may make contributions in her name to the Good Hope Lutheran Church of North Lima and Hampton Woods Activities Department in Poland, and may visit www.lanefuneralhomes.com to view this obituary and send condolences.
