Joseph J. Baldine Jr., 79
HUBBARD There will be services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for Joseph J. Baldine Jr., 79, who passed away Monday at the Cleveland Clinic after a brief illness with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Joseph was born Feb. 14, 1933 in Hubbard, a son of Joseph J. Baldine Sr. and Claudia Hull Baldine Hollendursky.
He was a 1952 graduate of Hubbard High School and attended Youngstown College.
He worked at Baglier Ford of Girard, Stiver Chevrolet of Hubbard and retired as a body shop manager in 1992 from Eagle Chevy.
He attended the Central Christian Church of Hubbard, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Japan.
He will be sadly missed by his family; his loving wife and best friend, the former Shirley Mason, whom he married April 21, 1956; his beloved daughters, Joellyn Sheronovich of Hubbard and Beth Baldine of Strongsville; and the love of his life, his grandchildren, Matthew J. Sheronovich of Hubbard and Jenna M. Sheronovich of Richmond, Va. He also is survived by his stepmother, Mary Baldine of Hubbard; a brother, Richard Baldine of Arizona; two half-sisters; and two half-brothers.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Baldine and Thomas Baldine and a sister, Audrey Bixler.
There will be calling hours Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.

Kenneth Lee Cook, 85
SALEM Kenneth Lee Cook, 85, died at 4:33 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2009 in the Emergency Room at Salem Community Hospital.
He was born Dec. 26, 1923 in Greenford, the son of the late Emmor J. and Vada (Cooke) Cook.
Before his retirement in 1987, he had been a millwright for 34 years for E.W. Bliss.
He was a 1941 graduate of Greenford High School and attended the Salem Trade Class for two years.
Mr. Cook was a member of the First Christian Church in Salem, where he was a former deacon, trustee and president of the Gold Star Sunday School Class. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
His wife, Betty J. (Christen) Cook, whom he married Jan. 20, 1944, survives him, along with two daughters, Mary Lou Paulin of Waverly, Tenn. and Sandie (Fred) McClellan of Mogadore; a sister, Carol (Keith) McDonald of Salem; three grandchildren, Sharon McCloud of Waverly, Terri Burns of Mogadore and Shannon Zahr of Burns, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Ethel Jean Cook and Mary Hemming and four brothers, Paul, Dale and twin brothers, Herbert and Hubert Cook.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 14, at the First Christian Church in Salem with the Rev. Leonard Moore officiating.
Calling hours will be held at the church today, one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Youngstown.

CAMP HILL, PA. Nancy R. Davis, 62, formerly of Youngstown, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at her home under the care of her daughter, after a brave battle with cancer.
She was a homemaker, licensed beautician, volunteered as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, enjoyed history, especially related to the Civil War, nature, bird watching, the beauty of Mill Creek Park, and her vast collection of frog figurines. She was a graduate of the Class of 1964 at Austintown Fitch High School.
She was born Aug. 20, 1946 in Youngstown to the late and beloved Raymond and Myrtle (Thompson) Erickson.
She is survived by her husband, John R. Davis; a daughter, Jennifer R. Steele; a son, Jason R. Steele and his fiancee, Rhonda Hartman of Youngstown; a granddaughter, NancyRose Steele; a brother, James W. Erickson and his wife, Marye Kay of Youngstown; her nephew, David Erickson of Hobart, Ind.; her niece, Kimberly (Erickson) Bordoni of Smyrna, Ga.; her cousin, Tom Decker of Youngstown; and her sister-in-law, Janice (Steele) Badilla and her three children of Youngstown.

HAMPTON, VA. Jasper A., Grier, 88, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009.
A native of Wetumpka, Ala., he had been a Hampton resident since 1970, where he was the owner of Arbys Restaurant for 40 years.
He served as a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked for 20 years in radio and television as a program manager in Youngstown.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Grier; five daughters, Carolyn Petko of Youngstown, Becky Sheffield of Columbia, S.C. and Jayne Smith, Kathy Grier and Lynn Phill, all of Hampton; a sister, Jewell Mazetier of Gresham, Ore.; two brothers, Thomas Grier of Grandy, N.C. and Del Grier of Chesapeake, Va.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2009, at the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

YOUNGSTOWN There will be funeral services at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, May 15, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Christine Church with Msgr. David Rhodes celebrating for Phyllis Iaderosa, 89, who passed away peacefully at her home early Tuesday morning, May 12.
Phyllis was born March 7, 1920 in Cervino, Caserta, Italy, the daughter of Madalina Pascarella and Luigi Ross. She came to the States in 1930.
She looked forward to cooking spaghetti for her family every Sunday and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a compassionate woman, who was always there to help and listen to anyone in need. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be missed by everyone.
She leaves her husband, John Iaderosa, whom she married Aug. 12, 1953 in Italy; three children, Sarah Sally (Vincent) Femia of Hubbard, Frank Iaderosa of North Lima and Joanna Iaderosa of Canfield; seven grandchildren, Nick (Stacey) Femia, Melissa (Charles) Hess, Jason (Amber) Freudenberg, Kristin Andrews, Lauren Iaderosa, Jordan Freudenberg and Marissa Iaderosa; six great-grandchildren, Ashley and Natalie Femia, Marina, Giada and Alessia Hess and Addison Andrews; a twin sister, Alice Morelli of Boardman; many nieces and nephews, including Dr. Louis Morelli, whom she confided in often; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Biagio and Francine Iaderosa; and many friends and neighbors.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Bridget Marchetti and Vivian Morelli.

GROVE CITY, OHIO James A. Jim Ivan Sr., 65, died on Monday, May 11, 2009, at his residence with his loving wife and children by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Katherine Ivan and brother, John Kenneth Kenny Ivan Sr.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Cheryl; daughter, Mary Anna Abele; son, James A. Ivan (Christi) Jr.; grandchildren, Ashley and Richard Abele and Haley and Kayla Ivan; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Ivan and Betty (Dennis) Saley; brother-in-law, Warren (Judy) Brown; cousins, Cecilia Varsho, Bennett (Julie) Varsho, Kathleen Keevey, and Kevin Keevey.
Jim was a veteran, serving his country in the Air Force. He was employed by Delta Airlines for 34 years, working at the ticket counter and enjoyed that position because of the interaction with people. Jim was a member of the American Legion No. 8191 in Grove City.
He loved his sports and followed the Cleveland Browns and Indians, and Miami Dolphins. Jim also enjoyed golf and bowling, and being a grandpa and spending time with his family.
Visitation will be held today, May 14, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Schoedinger-Norris Chapel, 3920 Broadway in Grove City, where memorial service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009, at 12:15 p.m.

Walter J. Kupiec Sr., 78
PULASKI, PA. Walter J. Kupiec Sr., 78, of 3157 Evergreen Road, passed away the evening of May 12 at Jameson Hospital.
Mr. Kupiec was born in Youngstown on Oct. 25, 1930, the son of the late Stanley and Rose Michno Kupiec.
Mr. Kupiec married the former Dorothy Bizub on Jan. 26, 1952. She preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 1999.
Walter retired from Sharon Steel in 1990. Mr. Kupiec was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was an avid hunter, trapper and enjoyed archery. He also enjoyed bingo and was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Tiger Woods.
Survivors include one daughter, Christine and her husband, Paul Cook; two sons, Walter Kupiec Jr. and his wife, Kathy and Frank Kupiec and his wife, Patty, all of Pulaski; one brother, Henry Kupiec of California; two sisters, Helen Mijavec of Pulaski and Rose Miklus of Florida; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kupiec was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Frank Kupiec, John Kupiec, Joe Kupiec and Stanley Kupiec and one sister, Stella Linden.

Mary Diane Lazar Ph.D.
YOUNGSTOWN Mary succumbed Monday, May 11, to complications arising from a sudden and catastrophic aneurism she suffered on April 8 of this year.
She is survived by her husband, George, whom she wed in August of 1970; his parents; and her three children, Aaron of New York, Anna and husband Tom Draa of Las Vegas and Nathan and wife Beth of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Darlene Kozlowski and husband Dennis of Columbus and Bonita Springs, Fla.; brothers, H. James Sylak and wife Karyn of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Phillip Sylak and wife Lois of Blufton; as well as many life-long friends.
She lost her mother, Bernice in 1998; her father, Henry Sylak in 2008; and her infant daughter, Rachel Mei in 1985.
Mary was beloved in her North side community as a friend and mentor to several generations of local children.
She was a tenured English Professor at the Tuscawaras Branch of Kent State University in New Philadelphia. She also instructed high school English at Girard High School, college level English and Literature classes at Youngstown State University, Clarion University at its main campus and its Oil City Branch.
Mary graduated in 1967 from Ursuline High School and went on to get her Bachelors and Masters of Arts from Youngstown State University. While raising three children, she went on to receive her Ph.D. from Kent State in 1995, where she subsequently joined the English Department and eventually garnered full tenure. She taught thousands of students in her career, and forged meaningful bonds with many, as well as colleagues throughout the academic circles she traveled becoming an admired and respected figure in her field.
Mary will be remembered as a woman of letters and academic, as well as a lover of the outdoors, the arts and a student of both the Chinese and Spanish languages. She loved gardening, bird watching, tree identification, calligraphy, embroidery, antique refinishing and upholstering among other passions.
In the summer of 1974, Mary and her husband, George rode cross country on motorcycles on a trip that would be forever remembered.
Throughout her too short life, Mary put the needs of others before the needs of herself, she treated all she met with dignity and compassion. She gave so much to so many it is impossible to list it all here. With a tireless intellect and a personal commitment to social justice, self sacrifice, hard work, easy laughter, simple compassion, she will be sorely missed. Not only by the family she leaves behind but by the thousands of lives she has touched in myriad ways.

YOUNGSTOWN Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Beverly L. Bubs Lesko-Lewis, 61, who died early Tuesday morning at her residence.
She was born Oct. 18, 1947 in Youngstown, a daughter of Steven T. and Eleanor (Gruver) Lesko Sr., and she resided in this area most of her life.
She was a 1965 graduate of Chaney High School and she spent her adult life as a homemaker. She was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Youngstown. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family and friends, especially her godson, Jimmy Jr. Dinkie and the dog, Scrappy.
Beverly was a kind and loving lady and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She married Arthur D. Lewis on March 3, 1972 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1989.
She is survived by her father of Youngstown; nine siblings; Joyce (Jack) Lakovich of Canfield, Raymond (Sandy) Lesko of Cicero, N.Y., Geraldine Lesko Morar of Austintown, Donald (Yvonne) Lesko of Carpentersville, Ill., Phyllis (Joseph) Warner of Poland and Karen Lesko, Kathleen Ragan, Steven T. (Debbie) Lesko Jr. and James (Jerrie) Lesko Sr., with whom she made her home, all of Youngstown; and 13 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and a godson, Brian Morar.

YOUNGSTOWN George Pops Lesnansky, 92, father of George P. Lesnansky Sr., a.k.a Larry Walk, a 45 year veteran radio promoter of polka music in the Penn-Ohio area, passed away Thursday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center, surrounded by his son, George, his beloved daughter-in-law, Diana and his grandson, George P. Jr.
Pops took pride in the fact that he, along with his late wife, Josephine Susie were their sons biggest supporters of their sons radio shows, currently airing each Sunday on WYTX Radio and WSOM Radio, as well as his past Penn-Ohio Polka Festivals in the Idora Park Ballroom, Yankee Lake Ballroom, Conneaut Lake Ballroom and the Gateway Clipper, where they hand distributed advertising materials, table to table, in support of and promoting their sons future promotions.
He was born Aug. 6, 1916 in Mingo Junction, the son of the late John and Mary Lesnansky.
Pops was a member of St. Michaels Carpathian Russian Church, where in earlier years he worked for the church bingo parties.
He retired from U.S. Steel, Ohio Works, where he worked as an open hearth millwright for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Josephine Susie Lesnansky, who passed away 3 and a half years ago, as well, two brothers Mike and John.
He will be sadly missed, forever, by his son, George Lesnanksy and his daughter-in-law Diana, with whom he made his home; as well as his grandson, George P. Jr. and his wife, Judi; and his three great-grandchildren; and as well as many polka friends.

Margaret Louise Marrow, 68
YOUNGSTOWN Margaret Louise Marrow, 68, of 2738 Cain St., departed this life Monday, May 11, 2009, at 5:44 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Boardman Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 12, 1940 in Camilla, Ga., the daughter of the Rev. Lawyer and Thelma Hicks Hunter, coming to the area in 1953.
Mrs. Marrow was the pianist for St. Andrewes AME Church for 25 years, before retiring in 2002. She also played for several musical groups and was a former employee at St. Elizabeth Health Center for eight years in the housekeeping department.
She was a member of St. Andrewes AME Church and enjoyed drawing, music, reading and baking.
She married James Henry Marrow Sr., on July 22, 1961, he died April 9, 1984.
She leaves to mourn 10 children, Brian (Valencia) Marrow, Duane (Pam) Marrow and Ms. Freida Marrow, all of Youngstown, Vince (Dr. Monique) Marrow of Toledo, Raymond Marrow and Ms. Thelma Peace, both of Youngstown, Jasper Marrow of Detroit, Tahib James Jr. Abdullah of Birmingham, Ala., Darnell Marrow of Detroit and Ms. Sinikqua Rush of Indianapolis; mother, Thelma M. Hunter of Youngstown; one sister, Mildred Johnson of Youngstown; special friend, James Wright of Youngstown; 26 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father; three children, Betty Jo Perkins, Danny and Deborah Marrow; and three grandsons, Kevin, David Jeremiah and Raymond Victorious Marrow.
Family will receive friends at 617 ParkCliffe Ave., the home of her son, Brian (Valencia) Marrow, and the home of her sister, Mildred Johnson, at 2738 Cain St.

Anne Louise Metzinger, 74
BOARDMAN Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Fox Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church for Anne Louise Metzinger, 74, who passed away Wednesday morning.
Anne was born Sept. 3, 1934 in Youngstown, a daughter of Steve and Blanche Berringer Metzinger.
She was a 1952 graduate of Wilson High School and received a bachelors degree in education from Youngstown State. Anne taught at Watson Elementary School in Austintown for 32 years.
She was a member of the church, taught Sunday school there and was a member of the Third Order of St. Dominic. She was also a member of the Phi Mu Sorority, Pinnacle Partners Investment Club, Monthly Book Club and Poker Club. She also belonged to the Youngstown Ski Club, the Ohio Cultural Alliance and played in several bridge clubs, including the Youngstown Bridge Club.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sisters, Jane (Fred) Latessa of Youngstown and Majorie Hughes, with whom she made her home; a sister-in-law, Pauline Metzinger of California; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and many longtime friends.
Anne was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Coyne and a brother, Raymond Metzinger.

Carl F. Pelini, 79
EAST LIVERPOOL Longtime area resident, Carl F. Pelini, 79, of Harding Avenue, passed away Tuesday, May 12.
Born in Youngstown on Oct. 13, 1929, he was the son of the late Xaviero and Nancy Orsini Pelini.
Following his 1948 graduation from Ursuline High School, Carl received his degree from St. Vincent College in 1952, and later earned a Masters in Education from Kent State University. He continued doctoral studies at Northwestern University.
Carl served with the U.S. Army in Puerto Rico from 1952 through 1954 before coming to East Liverpool, where he began his career teaching English. He later became assistant principal at Westgate School and then high school principal, before being named Assistant Superintendent of East Liverpool City Schools. He also served proudly as the assistant coach of the 1955 undefeated untied Potters football team. In all of his interactions with others throughout his life, Carl was always respectful of everyone, which commanded the respect of others in return.
In 1969, Carl left the field of education for business, ultimately becoming vice president and partner of Energy Development Corporation, an oil and gas exploration firm.
Carl played football at St. Vincent College and was a member of the victorious 1950 Tangerine Bowl team. He had also been inducted into the Ursuline High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a longtime member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, a member of the Riverview Cemetery Board, and a member of the board of the St. Clair Land Company. Carl was on the Board of the Columbiana County Port Authority from its inception until retiring as vice chairman in 2007.
He was a former president of the East Liverpool Country Club and was an avid golfer. He served on the advisory boards of National City Bank and the East Liverpool branch of Kent State University, where he was also honored on the Wall of Fame for his lifetime efforts on behalf of the university.
Carl is survived at home by his wife, the former Philomena Cirucci, whom he married on Nov. 25, 1954; also surviving is one daughter, Susan McGalla and her husband, Stephen of Mt. Lebanon, Pa. and two sons, Dr. David Pelini and his wife, Susan of Piney Point Village, Texas and Atty. Craig Pelini and his wife, Pam of North Canton; five grandchildren, Charles Pelini, Nicholas Pelini, Kate Pelini, Corrin Pelini and Christine Pelini; and two sisters, Irma Pelini of Youngstown and Mary French of Boardman.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Pelini and Millie Orlando, along with a brother, Anthony Pelini.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Carls life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 18, at St. Aloysius Church, with Father Joseph Fata of St. Luke Catholic Church.
A private family burial is to take place on Tuesday at Saint Vincent Cemetery on the grounds of St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa.

GIRARD Donna Jean Russ, 76, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Omni Manor in Youngstown.
She was born May 23, 1932 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Clayton and Dorothy Mae (Winovech) Stambaugh.
She was a 1950 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. She was a member of St. Rose Church and SNPJ Lodge 643 in Girard. She was a waitress and hostess at several restaurants, including The Living Room, Cherrys Top of the Mall and Jimmy Chieffos.
She married Edward Russ August 18, 1951, he passed away Jan. 25, 1997.
She is survived by three sons, Gregory A. Russ of Birmingham, Ala., Leonard L. Russ of Southington, Conn. and Lowell E. Russ of Girard; a sister, Mary Stambaugh of Warren; and four grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin E., Clayton E. Jr. and Robert M. Stambaugh.
Private services were held.

BOARDMAN There will be services at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 18, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Immaculate Conception Church with the Rev. Gerald DeLucia celebrating for Theresa Sacchini, 56, who passed away Monday afternoon, May 11.
Theresa was born May 18, 1952 in Youngstown, the daughter of Vienna (Larocca) and Patsy Sallustio.
She attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Ursuline High School in 1970. Theresa attended Youngstown State University, majoring in Biology.
She and her husband, Joe, loved keeping up with the Italian traditions for all the holidays. Theresa was famous for her baking and candy making. Her doors were always open to everyone and they enjoyed her gentleness and kindness. No one walked away from Theresa without a kind word, a smile on their face, or something good to take home with them.
Theresa was very devoted to the Madonna and her Patron Saint, St. Theresa. She promoted her devotion by distributing holy cards of Our Lady of Good Remedy and St. Theresa Novena. She was also involved in promoting the cause of two young, Italian men for Canonization, Pier Giorgio Frassati and Alberto Marvelli. Theresa was a member of the Legion of Mary, the Society of the Little Flower, the Society of St. Jude, Padre Pio Prayer Group, the Blue Army, and a Third Order of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society and Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
She was employed at Infocision and was nicknamed one of the Golden Girls, along with Becky, Esther, Dottie and Shirley, whom she loved very much.
Theresa will be sadly missed by her husband, Joseph A. Sacchini Jr., whom she married Sept. 13, 1975, and was her constant companion and best friend; her daughter, Maria Centafonti; her three beautiful granddaughters, Nicole Marie, Jammie Michelle and Alyssa Gabrielle; her father, Patsy Sallustio of Columbus; a brother, Pasquale (Debbie) Sallustio of Columbus; her father-in-law, Joseph A. Sacchini Sr.; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Sacchini; her cousins, Vera and Cheryl Bianconi; her friend, Theresa Latham, whom she loved like a daughter; and her beloved family and friends. Theresa will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Vienna Sallustio.
Friends may call on Saturday, May 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, May 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
