AUSTINTOWN Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Almerinda Ciarniello, 89, who died Saturday morning in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Boardman Campus.
Almerinda was born January 15, 1920, in Bagnoli del Trigno, Italy
She came to the United States in 1935 from the Moliniaize-Abruzzi region of Italy.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of McDonald.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dominic Ciarniello, whom she married August 24, 1941, and who died July 15, 2000; a daughter, Violet Angiuli; a son, Donald Ciarniello; and son-in-law, Dominic Angiuli.
She is survived by her son, Dominic Jack (Chrystal) Ciarniello of Canfield; three grandchildren, Carol Marie (Paul) Schweizer, Ralph (Susan) Angiuli and Robert Angiuli; and two great-grandsons, Isaiah Schweizer and Nicholas Angiuli.

Helen L. Diamond, 89
NILES Helen L. Diamond, 89, formerly of Ohio Avenue in McDonald, passed away early Sunday morning, May 31, 2009, at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles.
Helen was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Hickory Ridge, Ark., a daughter of the late Obie and Rose Penrose Green, and moved to this area in 1985.
Helen was a homemaker and held various jobs during her life.
She was of the Protestant faith.
Her first husband, Leman Hydrick, whom she married in 1937, is deceased. Her second husband, Ronald D. Diamond, whom she married in 1962, passed away in 1984.
Mrs. Diamond leaves six children, Stanley A. (Jean) Hydrick of Palm Coast, Fla., Emma L. Terry (John) Zemko of Niles, Jerry A. (Dennis) Owen of Phoenix, Helen L. Binion of Cortland, Leman W. Bud Hydrick of Phoenix, and Nancy Hydrick of Vienna; a brother, Willis Green and a sister, Fern Brimhall, both of Jonesboro, Ark.; a stepbrother, Frankie Edmiston of Paragould, Ark.; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Helen will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Besides her husbands, a son, Obie H. Hydrick; three brothers, Marshall, Roy and Jake Green; a sister, Shirley Wesner; and her stepmother, Tenny Edmiston, are also deceased.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.

Edward C. Ed Humason, 66
LAS VEGAS Edward C. Ed Humason, 66, died Friday, May 22, 2009, after an extended illness.
He was born April 19, 1943 in Youngstown, the son of Edward E. and Vinnie I. (George) Humason.
He attended Chaney High School and served four years in the Air Force. After retiring as a superintendent from General Motors, he moved to Las Vegas.
He is survived by his son, Jefferey (Kate) and his daughter, Vinnie Ann Humason Yike, both of Michigan; two grandsons, John and Joseph; a sister, Beverly Humason Walp of Youngstown; and a brother, William (Paula) of Warren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joan Humason Keener.
A private service was held at the Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas.
Chester A. Jurus, 86
STRUTHERS Chester A. Jurus, 86, died Friday evening, May 29, 2009, at Maplecrest Nursing Home with his family by his side.
Mr. Jurus was born March 6, 1923, in Youngstown, a son of George and Mary Tokash Jurus, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1941 graduate of South High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, serving as a radio gunner with the 15th Air Force in North Africa and Italy from November of 1943 until his return to Youngstown. He had been awarded the European, African and Middle Eastern Ribbon with four Bonze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Medal with one Silver Star, and the Distinguished Unit Badge. He also saw combat in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Normandy and the Air Combat Balkans. Other missions which won him the Aid Medal and five Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters were over Toulon and Lyon, France, Bucharest, Budapest, Sofia and Munich. Mr. Juruss B-24 group received a Presidential Unit Citation for volunteering to operate from an air field in Italy condemned by engineers too small for B-24 Liberators to land on.
After the war, Mr. Jurus worked for the Electric Equipment as a parts manager for 44 years, before retiring in 1990.
Mr. Jurus was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member of its Altar and Rosary Society, the Holy Name Society, a member of the Cursillo and Marriage Encounter, former usher, and a former member of its Infant Jesus of Prague Guild. Mr. Jurus and his wife worked the first church festival.
He was also a member of the Struthers Knights of Columbus, a member of the seniors at St. Stanislaus Church and the VFW No. 1222 in Youngstown.
He loved to watch football, enjoyed reading the newspaper, and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Dorothy Widelski, whom he married June 10, 1950; one son, Michael (Janie) Jurus of Boca Raton, Fla.; one sister, Carol (Eddie) Pivovar of New Castle, one son-in-law, Dave L. Handel of Boardman; seven grandchildren, Kristin (Michael) Jurus-King of Warren, Michael (Lisa) Jurus of Boardman, Addie Handel of Boardman, Michele Jurus and Danny Jurus, both of Baca Raton, Fla. and David Handel and Jenny Handel both of Boardman; and four great-grandchildren, Michael John Jurus, Laci Ann Jurus, Max King and Logan King.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Ann Jurus-Handel; and a granddaughter, Shelly Handel.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, where family and friends will be received one hour prior to the Mass.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.

James T. McCarthy, 98
BOARDMAN A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Church, and prayers offered at 9:45 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, for Mr. James T. McCarthy, 98, who died early Saturday morning at his residence.
James was born Aug. 25, 1910 in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Florence and Catherine (O'Keefe) McCarthy.
He was a member of St. Charles Church and the Ancient Order of Hibernia.
James retired in 1969 from the Erie and Lackawanna Railroad, serving over 40 years as a Superintendent.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, the former Catherine I. Baker, whom he married July 10, 1933, and died Jan. 14, 1994; a son, Richard; a son-in-law, Ronald Lawrence; his sisters, Mary, Catherine and Abby; and his brothers, Jerry, Frank, Ted, John and Joe.
He is survived by five daughters, Marian (Burdette) Baker of Boardman, Elizabeth (Donald) Tait of Calgary, Canada, Kathleen (Ed) Maloney of Boardman, Margaret Peggy Lawrence of Austintown and Eileen Thompson of Youngstown; eight sons, James (Annette) of Austintown, Jerry (Kay) of Canfield, Francis (Norma) of Austintown, William (Marilyn) of Erie, Pa., Michael (Katie) of Austintown, Timothy of Boardman, Terrance (Mary-Ann) of Canfield and Thomas of Cleveland; 30 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley or the Ursuline Motherhouse.

Louie Lou
Tabor Sr., 88
NILES Louie Lou Tabor Sr., 88, passed away at Washington Square Health Care Center Friday, May 29, 2009.
He was born May 15, 1921, in Cleveland, the son of Christley and Willie Ella Love Tabor.
He was a 1940 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and played varsity football and basketball.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged May 11, 1946. His promotions included Sergeant, Warrent Officer Junior Grade serving in MM Howitzer Battalion in the South Pacific, Soloman Islands, Dutch East Indies, and Mindanao, Philippine Islands.
Lou was employed by the Niles Post Office as a mailman from 1950 to 1957. He graduated from Youngstown State University with a B.A. in English in 1950, Westminster College with a M. Ed. in Eduation in 1965, and an MA in Administration in 1969.
He was employed by the Niles Public Schools as a grade school teacher from 1957 to 1971 at Washington Elementary School and a principal at Jackson and Lincoln Schools from 1971 to 1991. He retired from teaching in 1991 and continued to serve as a substitute principal until 1999. He was honored as Principal Emeritus by the Niles Board of Education in February of 2002.
He was a nine gallon donor to the Niles Red Cross Blood Bank, Scoutmaster of the Boys Scout Troop 38 in the 1950s, member of the Ohio Association of Elementary School Principals,Les Pecheurs Fishing Club, Friends of the Library, Niles Frontliners, and Niles Historical Society.
He was honored as an Alumni by the Niles McKinley Distinguished Hall of Fame Association at their first induction ceremony. The Library Media Center, located in the Niles Middle School, is named in his honor. He is a member of the Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Sunday School and Mens Group.
Lou was an avid supporter of all Niles Red Dragon Sports. His hobbies included gardening, fishing and swimming. He was an author and poet, and enjoyed painting. He was a member of the swim group that met at Avalon Resort and The Art Bunch that met each week in Cortland.
His wife, Bessie Jane Williams Tabor, whom he married in May of 1946, died Feb. 13, 1972.
Family includes three daughters, Martha Truss and her husband, Michael of Warren, Janet Tabor of Springdale, Ohio and Cynthia Tabor of Mineral Ridge; five sons, Louie Tabor Jr. of Niles, Joseph Tabor of Niles, Leslie Tabor and his wife, Nancy of Niles, Timmy Tabor and his wife, Donna of Harrisburg, Pa. and Geoffery Tabor and his wife, Paula of Williamstown, Mass.; a daughter-in-law, Donna Tabor of Niles; 10 grandchildren, Natasha Caffie of Warren, Aaron Tabor of Springdale, Joaquin Tabor, Tawnyka Tabor and Leslie Tabor, all of Niles, Gavin Tabor of Cincinnati, Danielle Tabor of Jacksonville, Fla., Jada Tabor of Raleigh, N.C. and Trenton Tabor and Anna Kelsey Tabor of Williamstown; and one great-grandson, Jevon Tabor of Niles.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd, John and Chris Tabor.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Niles.

Burial will be in the Veterans Section at Niles City Cemetery, where Lou will be honored for his military service by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
