Alfred A. Arnoto, 80
COLUMBIANA Alfred A. Arnoto, 80, of 105 Park Court, died at 2:20 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Mr. Arnoto was born Nov. 6, 1928 in Lisbon, a son of Ernest and Elizabeth Vechione Arnoto and had lived in Columbiana since 1964 coming from Youngstown.
Alfred was a mixer operator for the former Kaiser and then National Refractories in Columbiana for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where he was active with the food drives during the holidays. Alfred served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
His wife, the former Margaret M. Mazzucco, whom he married April 30, 1960, died April 21, 1985.
He is survived by his son, Rick (Kathy) Arnoto of Canfield; two sisters, Evelyn Knox of Columbiana and Mary Kireta of Toronto, OH; two grandchildren, Nicolette and Victor Arnoto; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Arnoto and four brothers, Paul, George, Tony and Joseph Arnoto.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church with the Reverend Thomas Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow at Lisbon Cemetery, where Benjamin Firestone Post No. 290 American Legion will accord military honors.

YOUNGSTOWN There are no services scheduled for Brady Bolger, Infant, born silently Friday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Brady is survived by his mother, Brittany Young and his father, David Bolger II, both of Youngstown; sister, Angelina Nommay; brother, Braylon Bulger; grandparents, Vickie Bolger and Thomas Horvat, Grandpa Czap, Carla and Greg Colaluca and David and Brenda Bolger; and great-grandparents, JoAnne and Ted Carissimi and Elizabeth Czap. He also leaves aunts and uncles, Melissa Young, Dena Scarfone, Larry Morris, Joey Czap, Patricia Thomas and Jason Czap.
Bradys angels in waiting are his grandpa, Robert Rouns Sr.; grandma, Carol Rouns; uncle, Robert Rouns Jr.; and grandma, Jane Vendemia.

Lydia DeJesus, 61
CAMPBELL There will be funeral services at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 5, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman for Lydia DeJesus, 61, who passed away late Monday evening, June 1.
Lydia was born June 22, 1947 in Puerto Rico, the daughter of Manuel F. Ayala and Alejandria Camacho and came to the United States at the age of four.
She was a graduate of South High School and was employed at Park Vista as a nurses aid. Lydia was a member of the Everlife Church.
She will always be remembered by her husband, Santos DeJesus, whom she married Feb. 14, 1969; two sons, Daniel (Victoria Rivera) DeJesus and Jonathan (Jodi) DeJesus; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Daniel, Trinity, Emily, Dannilynn, Lydia Lee and Tristan; a sister, Crucita Maisonet; a brother, Enrique Ayala; special nieces, Migdalia, Awilda, Linda and Debbie; and a special nephew, Alfredo.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Carmen Iris Elamri and Juanita Cruz; and a brother, Jose Manuel.

AUSTINTOWN Prayers will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Nicholas J. DeToro, 26, who passed away Tuesday morning.
Nicholas was born Dec. 6, 1982 in Youngstown, the son of Armand E. Detoro Jr. and Karen L. Maggianetti.
Nicholas was a 2001 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. He was a waiter at Red Lobster. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, where he attended their school and served as an altar boy.
Nicholas leaves his mother, Karen L. (Richard) Nochta of Austintown; his father, Armand E. (Lori) DeToro Jr. of Niles; a sister, Sedra (Sean) Kessman of Las Vegas; three stepsisters, Michelle (Gary) Shonce, Sara Tamburro and Traci (Matt) Brown; a stepbrother, Anthony Tamburro; a niece, Elizabeth Kessman; a nephew, Blaine Kessman; his grandmother, Ann DeToro; an aunt, Maryann DeToro; and an uncle, Ray Maggianetti.
Nicholas was preceded in death by his grandfather, Armand E. DeToro Sr. and his grandmother, Antoinette Maggianetti.
The family will be receiving friends Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ida Dragel, 85
POLAND There will be funeral services held at 11 a.m. at St. John Greek Orthodox Church for Ida Dragel, 85.
She was born Sept. 25,1922 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Constantine and Anastasia Constant. Ida came to Youngstown as a small child.
Ida was a graduate of South High School Class of 1941. She worked at Western Auto, where she met her husband, John, and also worked at Wittenauers Pharmacy & Gift Shop, retiring in 1979.
Ida was a lifelong member of St. John Greek Orthodox Church, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school for many years. She was vice president of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, a member of the Senior Citizens Group, and the Epsilon Alpha Delta Society. Ida loved to read and spend time with her grandson.
Ida leaves her daughter, Anita Chearno of Boardman; one grandson, Joshua Chearno of Boardman; one sister, Georgia Rominger of Columbus, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Dragel, whom she married June 22, 1952, and he passed away on May 21, 2002; two brothers, Louis Constant and George Constant; three sisters, Bessie Stamolis, Anna Solomon and Mary Stavrides.
Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, where a Trisagion prayer service will be offered at 7 p.m. Friends may also call from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Greek Orthodox Church with services to begin at 11 a.m.

Margaret W. Meg Gillies
HOWLAND Margaret W. Meg Gillies, died Monday morning at her Lords calling at her residence following a long illness.
Meg was born in Mineral Ridge, the daughter of the late Edward and Rilla Brown Watkins.
A high school graduate and received a registered nurse degree. She worked for 52 years, the last for Lawrence Pilger, MD. It was at this time she met the love of her life, Alex Gillies and they were married June 12, 1976.
Margaret loved her church, St. John's Episcopal Church in Sharon, where she was active and served on the steering committee. She and her husband were both devoted members of the choir. Meg was in charge of doing the floral art of the sanctuary for all main holidays of the church.
She was also a member of Childrens Rehab at the Rehabilitation Center in Warren. Earlier Margaret taught Sunday school at St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Niles. She was also a gifted musician, playing the marimba at many local events.
Margaret is survived by her devoted husband, Alex, at the residence; a sister, Gloria (Michael) Popp of Mineral Ridge; a brother, Clarence (Jean) Watkins of Florida; a stepson, David (Bridget) Gillies of Cortland; grandchildren, Danny and Angel Gillies; cousins, Margie and Paul Jones, Judy and Adam Johnson, Sandra and Ed Barringer, Janet Drake, Phyllis Dobson, Lila Partridge, Myrle and Lanita Partridge; nieces and nephews, Leslie and Peter Steffes, Jeffrey, Jessica and Justin Popp, Tom and Pat Watkins, Carol and Roland Garland; and former daughter-in-law, Anita Gillies. She also leaves her special friend, Dolores Rowlands. They met in choir and were known as the TWT the two wagging tongues. Also Patty OConnell, James Stevens, Irene Bozin, Katie Harris and Ann Tereba.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Frances Stephens; brother-in-law, Jack Stephens; and her beloved nephew, Michael E. Popp.
Megs remains will be inured at the new columbarium at St. Johns.

YOUNGSTOWN Mr. James Gray, 67, of 704 Magnolia Ave., formerly of 1400 Springdale Ave., departed this life Friday, May 29, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mr. Gray was born Feb. 4, 1942 in Birmingham, Ala., a son of Joseph Sr. and Rosie Lee Mack Gray, coming to this area many years ago.
He had been employed with Youngstown Steel Door, and retired from the City of Youngstown Park Division. He was a member of the Old Glory Interdenominational Church, and AARP. He enjoyed fishing, loved western movies, and was an avid reader.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, the former Frances Fields Barnes, whom he married May 12, 1977; a daughter, Betty Pam Wainwright of Andover; two brothers, Joseph (Iola) Gray and Tommie L. Gray, both of Youngstown; stepchildren, Kenneth and Sheila Barnes, both of Columbus and Athena Barnes of Dayton; grandchildren, Louie (Veronica) Henderson, Timothy Johnson and Sherry Gray, all of Youngstown, Shakeila (Andre) Green of Columbus and Kenneth Barnes Jr. of Tampa, Fla.; 15 great-grands; and two loyal dear friends, Lawyer Mitchum and Atty. James Carlisle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Mark; three brothers, William, Van and Roosevelt; two sisters, Annie Shakoor and Victoria Stevenson; a stepdaughter, Renee Barnes; and a great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Huff was born Aug. 23, 1929 in Media, Pa., a daughter of Paul and Loretta Robinson Griffin.
She had been employed with the former Diamond Head Nursing Home as a nurses assistant for over 10 years, retiring in 1989.
She was a former member of the Honeycomb UAME Church in Lima, Pa., and the NAACP. She loved to cook and enjoyed entertaining.
She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her loss, seven children, Mary Lynch of Drexel Hill, Pa., Frances A. Day of Media, Virginia Stephens of Secane, Pa., Joe Carter of Delaware, Pa., Susan Cooper and Thelma Carter and Terry Carter, all of Youngstown; two sisters, Pauline Burton and Thelma Terry, both of Media; 21 grands; 27 great-grands; and a host of family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Levi, who passed away in 1997.

Mr. Jackson was born Aug. 17, 1991 in Youngstown, a son of Rhodell Franklin Sr. and April B. Jackson.
He was a student at East High School, played basketball for Juvenile Justice Center and played football for Youngstown Braves.
He leaves his mother and father of Youngstown; two sisters, Rayanna Franklin and Morgan Byers; three brothers, Rhodell Franklin Jr, Arlis Casey Jr. and Joseph McClendon Jr.; grandparents, Boss and Allie Sue Jackson, Phyllis Franklin and Marvin Kennedy, all of Youngstown; and Uncle, Bruce Jackson of Youngstown.
A brother, Tarition Caller Jr. and an uncle, Demonte Franklin, preceded him in death.

YOUNGSTOWN There will be funeral services at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 5, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman with the Rev. Msgr. John A. Zuraw celebrating, for Dorothy V. Jacobson, 89, who passed away Sunday morning, May 31.
Dorothy was born Nov. 9, 1919 in Sharon, Pa., the daughter of Ray and Daisy Mae Adams.
She was employed at Westinghouse Electrical Company, where she made torpedoes and was part of the maintenance staff for Ohio One and the Wick Building. Dorothy enjoyed attending Scope Adult Day Care in Warren. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Her husband, Michael Jacobson, whom she married Sept. 9, 1942, passed away April 28, 1983.
Dorothy will always be remembered by her daughter, Darlene Luzar of Youngstown; three grandchildren, Shelley Vakasy, Kelly Vakasy and Katina (Vakasy) McKinney; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mary Koval of Sharon and Jenetta Howard of Wheatland, Pa.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Robert and Lawson Adams.

AKRON Funeral service will be at noon today at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home Inc., for Mrs. Venita Lynn Lampkin Jones, 49, formerly of Youngstown, who departed this life Saturday, May 30, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Jones was born Dec. 27, 1959 in Bronx, N.Y., a daughter of John R. Sr. and Roselle E. White Maddox.
She was a machinist for Dinosaur Plastic Co. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She attended Rockland College.
She leaves her mother of New City, N.Y.; her father of Youngstown; her husband, Clarence S. Jones of Youngstown, whom she married April 2, 1992; a son, John J. Lampkin Jr. of New City; three sisters, Beretta Swann of Washington, D.C., Theresa Thacker and Jasmine Maddox, both of Youngstown; and two brothers, John Maddox Jr. and Dwayne Maddox, both of Bronx.
A daughter, Dayne A. Short preceded her in death.

Beryl J. Sachire, 85

Beryl was born Feb. 8, 1924 in Altoona, Pa., the daughter of William and Kathryn Hamar Kerlin.
After her graduation from South High School in 1942, she joined the Navy Waves, serving during World War II. She later worked as a secretary at General Fireproofing and the Sheet & Tube Corporation. She also had worked as a clerk at Lawsons Dairy and Cooks Department Store before retiring. She was a longtime member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Her husband Frank S. Sachire, whom she married July 19, 1944, died Dec. 24, 2008.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Sachire, Linda Ditullio and Mary (John) Colla, all of Austintown; three sons, Frank (Patty) Sachire of Canfield, Stephen of Austintown and Michael (Elainna) of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; a sister, Margorie Smiley of Boardman; six grandchildren, Ryan (Cindy) Sachire, Danielle (Christy) Morrone, Jennifer Colla, John F. Colla, Gina Colla and Rory Sachire; four great-grandchildren, Ryane Esenwein, Mia Wilson, Taylor Dane Morrone and Anna Sachire.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald D. Ditullio; grandson, Donald D. Ditullio Jr.; three sisters, LeEtta Hawk, Adaline Landshof and Clara Thornton; and a brother, William Kerlin.

Marian Sereday, 90
MASURY Marian Sereday, 90, passed away Monday afternoon, June 1, 2009, at Sharon Regional Health System.
Mrs. Sereday was born in Sharon, Pa. on July 5, 1918, a daughter John and Mary (Marenchin) Marinko.
She had attended Sharon Schools. Mrs. Sereday had held various jobs throughout her life, and also enjoyed many hobbies. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hermitage, Pa. and the Sharon V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 1338.
Marian married George Sereday on Sept. 5, 1938, and has been a widow since 1947, when her husband passed away following his time spent being a Prisoner of War. She has lived in Masury since 1938.
Surviving are her daughters, Georgiana Bercik of Brookfield and Judith (Ronald) Kaszowski of Masury; five grandchildren, Mark Bercik of Brookfield, Tracy (Richard) Tice of Brookfield, Kimberly Kaszowski of Masury, Jill (John) Zinger of Hubbard and Brian (Kathleen) Kaszowski of Columbiana; and six great-grandchildren, Ryan Tice, Ross Tice, Maria Zinger, Michael Zinger, Katrina Kaszowski and Carolyn Gallo. She is also survived by her three brothers, George (Evelyn) Marinko of Kershaw, S.C., Albert Marinko of Hermitage and Michael (Barbara) Marinko of Warren and by her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sereday of Brookfield and Mary Marinko of Florence, S.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Andrew Marinko and John Marinko Jr.; sister, Emma Murcheck; and son-in-law, Michael Bercik.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hermitage.
Calling hours will be held Thursday at the Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel in Brookfield from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Hermitage.

Lawrence Larry Silver, 84
BOARDMAN Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 5th at the Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home for Lawrence Larry Silver, 84, who passed away Tuesday morning.
Larry was born April 3, 1925 in Cleveland, a son of Bear and Bessie Silver. Upon graduating from John Hay High School, he served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Silver owned Larrys Silver Dollar Market in Akron. He met and married his wife, the former Phyllis Liberman in 1951. He was an agent for United Insurance Company, becoming District Manager, moving to Youngstown with his family in 1962. In 1971, Larry and his family founded Silvers Vogue Shop in downtown Youngstown, retiring in 2000.
He enjoyed bowling and playing poker at Ohev Tzedek Temple, also watching sports in his favorite chair.
Larry is survived by two sons, Barry (Karen) Silver of Poland and Robert (Nancy) Silver of Boardman; a daughter, Michelle Silver of Thomaston, Ga.; two sisters, Shirley Savoca and Dorothy Seligman, both of Cleveland; four grandchildren, Jennifer Gilles of Lorain, Amy Silver of Poland, Sean Pierce of New Middletown and Paul Silver of Akron; and three great-grandchildren, Dharyl Silver, Hadley and Caleb Gilles.
Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, who died in 1996; and a brother, Arthur Silver.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and half an hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Laurel Pete Whetstone, 73
MINERAL RIDGE Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel for Laurel Pete Whetstone, 73, who died Monday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Pete was born Feb. 7, 1936 in Ohltown, the son of the late Adam and Annabell (Carter) Whetstone.
He had worked a number of years ago for the Erie Railroad.
Pete is survived by his sister, Audrey Whetstone of Mineral Ridge; a sister-in-law, Arveda Whetstone of Mineral Ridge; brother-in-law, Frank Giovannone of Lordstown; and eight nieces and nephews, Marla Whetstone of Mineral Ridge, Don Giovannone and Evelyn Willforth, both of Warren, Judi Gensburg of Lordstown, Timothy Giovannone of North Carolina, Thomas Giovannone of Niles, David Giovannone of Youngstown and Eddie Giovannone of Newton Falls.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Milo Whetstone, Ina Giovannone and Walter Whetstone.
