Dominic Boano, 56

YOUNGSTOWN – Dominic Boano, 56, died Tuesday evening at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.

Dominic was born July 12, 1952 in Lowellville, a son of Dominic and Rose Karcher Boano.

Dom was a 1970 graduate of Lowellville High School and was a steel worker for Ohio Star Forge in Warren. He was a member, volunteer and trustee for the Saxon Club and Maennerchor Club.

Dominic loved bowing and playing bocce. He was a huge follower of all the Cleveland sports teams, especially the Cleveland Browns. An avid gardener, he enjoyed planting his vegetable garden each year.

Besides his wife, Dana Boano, whom he married Dec. 31, 1989, he leaves one daughter, Amy (Kurt) Otterbacher of Seville; one son, Dominic (Michelle) Boano of Poland; one stepdaughter, Deborah King of California; four stepsons, Timothy (Christin) Roscoe of Maryland, Keith Roscoe of Maryland, Kevin (Edith) Roscoe of California and Scott (Dawn M.) Roscoe of New Middletown; 17 grandchildren; three brothers, Louis, James and Andrew Boano; and two sisters, Adeline Arcomano and Josephine Payne.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sister, Lena Valentino and Mary Boano and infant Mary Boano; and five brothers, Michael, Jack, James and infants Louis and Andrew Boano.

Services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers with the Rev. Timothy Roscoe officiating.

Friends will be received Friday from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Brady Bolger, Infant

YOUNGSTOWN – There are no services scheduled for Brady Bolger, Infant, born silently Friday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Brady is survived by his mother, Brittany Young and his father, David Bolger II, both of Youngstown; sister, Angelina Nommay; brother, Braylon Bolger; grandparents, Vickie Bolger and Thomas Horvat, grandpa Czap, Carla and Greg Colaluca and David and Brenda Bolger; and great-grandparents, JoAnne and Ted Carissimi and Elizabeth Czap. He also leaves aunts and uncles, Melissa Young, Dena Scarfone, Larry Morris, Joey Czap, Patricia Thomas and Jason Czap.

Brady’s angels in waiting are his grandpa, Robert Rouns Sr.; grandma, Carol Rouns; uncle, Robert Rouns Jr.; and grandma, Jane Vendemia.

A special thanks to friends and family who were not mentioned, but not forgotten.

Mary A. Brentin, 93

NEW MIDDLETOWN – Services will be held Saturday at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown at 12:30 p.m. for Mary A. Brentin, 93, formerly of Poland, who died Wednesday at the Assumption Village.

Mary was born May 14, 1916 in Strabane, Pa., the daughter of George and Mary Jereb Ohlin.

She married John W. Brentin on Feb. 14, 1946.

She lived in the area her whole life, and was a homemaker and realtor with Century 21. She was a founding member of St. Paul the Apostle Church.

Mary’s whole life was devoted to being a wife, mother, grandmother, friend and homemaker. Her love of gardening and the outdoors was known and appreciated by all.

Mary leaves two sons, Robert P. (Louise) Brentin of Midland, Mich. and John O. (Vicki) Brentin of Houston; three daughters, Anne B. (Edward) Moss of Poland, Mary Jo (Kevin) Finnerty of Poland and Janice E. (Terry) Koch of Solon; and 15 grandchildren, Stephanie, Suzie and Lindsay Brentin, Steven, Jack and Ben Brentin, Jessica, Erik and Kaitlyn Moss, Matt (Loren), Julie, Dan and Maggie Finnerty and Kristie and Katherine Koch.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John who died Sept. 9, 1998; one son, William E. Brentin; nine brothers, Frank, Joseph, Vincent, Louis, Anthony, George, John, Rudy and William; and three sisters, Helen Stebelton, Jen Daubert and small child, Anne Ohlin.

Calling hours will be held Friday at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at St. Paul’s from noon to 12:30 p.m.

Aiko “Susie” Deavers, 73

SALEM – Aiko “Susie” Deavers, 73, died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Essex of Salem following an extended illness.

Susie was born on July 8, 1935 in Miyako, Japan, a daughter to Machekumur and Kanemega (Kamehama) Tomori.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed flowers, jewelry, and spending time with her family. She also loved listening to country music.

Aiko is survived by her five children, John and William Deavers, both of Youngstown, Charlene Simpson and her husband, John of Columbiana, Amy Smith and her husband, Jeff of Greenford and Mary Siciliano and her husband, Al of Youngstown; two brothers; five sisters; her six grandchildren, Nakesha Oliver and her husband, Jason, Shawna Simpson, Amanda Smith, Mercedes Simpson and Samantha and Preston Smith; and her two great-grandsons, Sean Oliver and Mack Simpson Wyss.

On behave of Susie’s family, all services will be private and no calling hours will be scheduled.

Nicholas J. DeToro, 26

AUSTINTOWN – Prayers will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Nicholas J. DeToro, 26, who passed away Tuesday morning.

Nicholas was born Dec. 6, 1982 in Youngstown, the son of Armand E. DeToro Jr. and Karen L. Maggianetti.

Nicholas was a 2001 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. He was a member of the FOE 3298 Eagles Organization, where he was a cook for Cindy DiMuzio. He worked at Alltel in Boardman in collections and sales, where he had numerous certificates of achievements. Nicholas also worked for his brother-in-law at Kessman Interiors as a painter for 2 years. He worked at Dukes Sanitary, Boardman Medical Supply, and as a waiter at Red Lobster. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, where he attended their school and served as an altar boy.

Nicholas leaves his mother, Karen L. (Richard) Nochta of Austintown; his father, Armand E. (Lori) DeToro Jr. of Niles; a sister, Sedra (Sean) Kessman of Las Vegas; three stepsisters, Michelle (Gary) Shonce, Sara Tamburro and Traci (Matt) Brown; a stepbrother, Anthony Tamburro; a niece, Elizabeth Kessman; a nephew, Blaine Kessman; his grandmother, Ann DeToro; an aunt, Maryann DeToro; and an uncle, Ray Maggianetti.

Nicholas was preceded in death by his grandfather, Armand E. DeToro Sr. and his grandmother, Antoinette Maggianetti.

The family will be receiving friends today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.



Peggyrae Dunlap, 79

HARLINGEN, TEXAS – Peggyrae Dunlap, 79, formerly of Austintown, passed from this life on June 2, 2009.

She was born on May 20, 1930 in Youngstown, a daughter of Bertha Farmer.

Peggyrae was a talented seamstress and spent most of her life sewing and in the design business. She was an active member of the Eagles Club in Austintown.

She was preceded in death by her mother and a sister, Margie Galich.

She leaves another sister, Lois Mentges of Canfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Tom Andrews of Harlingen; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Beth Dunlap of Wellston, Okla.; a granddaughter, Chrystal Dunlap of Phoenix; and her pets, Ginger and Suzie Q, whom she dearly loved.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the San Benito Funeral Home, 1400 West Highway 77 in San Benito.


George F. Heuer, 100

BOARDMAN – There will be a private funeral service on Friday, June 5, 2009, at the Bethel Lutheran Church for George Heuer, 100, who died Wednesday morning, June 3.

He was born Jan. 9, 1909 in Youngstown, a son of the late George and Anna Neuman Heuer.

George graduated from The Rayen School and attended the Capital University and the U.S. Army University in Biarritz, France.

He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps for 27 months during World War II. George served in England and France and was named Honorary Citizen of Villepinte, France.

George worked for U.S. Steel Corporation, Youngstown Works, retiring in 1974 as an assistant to the superintendent of maintenance.

George loved his church. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and served as council president, taught Sunday school, and had been a member of the Brotherhood. George was one of the founders and first president of the Lutheran Bowling League, active in Boardman Youth Baseball and served as treasurer for two years. He was a life member of the Mahoning Valley Industrial Management Association.

George was a member of Gideons International and enjoyed distributing Bibles to school children and colleges.

George is survived by his wife, Hazel Maguire Heuer, whom he married on Nov. 2, 1940; a son, Douglas Heuer of Boardman; a daughter, Deborah (David Bowers) Heuer of Milford, to whom he dedicated his life. He also leaves a special nephew, Craig (Sheryl) Neuman; three grandchildren, Keely Heuer, Eric Heuer and Kevin Heuer; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Thais (Robert) Rumble.

Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by an infant son.

Friends may call Friday, June 5, from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive in Boardman.

Alexander E. Jerry, 89


CAMPBELL – A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wasko Funeral Home with Pastor William Rotar officiating for Alexander E. Jerry, 89, who passed away Monday morning at Caprice Health Care Center.

Alexander was born Feb. 22, 1920 in Ellsworth, the son of George and Elizabeth Rose Demis Jerry.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and was a heavy equipment operator working for Local 66 Operating Engineers. Alexander was a member of the VFW Post 9571.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the former Mary Shively, whom he married on March 15, 1975; his children, Alex Jerry of Campbell, Donna Jean McGeehan of Austintown, Diana Weir of Illinois, Vicky Hadaway of Arizona, Kenny DeWolfe of Illinois and Debbie Arkwright of Indiana; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Christopher, Vadim and Dimetri; one great-grandson; and nieces and nephews, Doug, Dwight, Diane, Jan, Charlene and Carolyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Jerry; and sisters, Elizabeth Curry and Pearl Long.

The Jerry family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home.

Marian MacSkimming, 91

YOUNGSTOWN – Marian MacSkimming, 91, died Sunday morning, May 31, 2009, at her home.

She was born Feb. 19, 1918 in Hubbard, a daughter of Michael and Frances DelBane and was a lifelong area resident living in Hubbard for 40 years.

Mrs. MacSkimming worked for Sherwin Williams for 16 years before retiring in 1983. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She leaves a son, Thomas (Beth) MacSkimming of Wellsville, Pa.; two daughters, Sally Seaman of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Claudia (Robert) Stranacher of Camp Hill, Pa.; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Harold “Hally” Seaman and Bernard MacSkimming; a daughter, Jacqueline Volpe; brothers, Frank, Joe, Luke, Louis and Anthony DelBane; sisters, Mary Anderson, Lena Mozillo and Rose DelBane; and three grandsons, Mark Volpe, Thomas MacSkimming and Anthony Seaman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home.

Mariam “Mim” Siegfried McDonald, 94

POLAND – Mariam “Mim” Siegfried McDonald, 94, died Tuesday evening at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Mim was born May 21, 1915 in Youngstown, a daughter of Fred and Maria Goodridge Siegfried. Mim had lived in Poland since 1920.

A 1933 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, Mim received her bachelor’s in education from the College of Wooster in 1937. She was a teacher for 22 years with the Poland School District, teaching at both Poland Junior High and Poland Seminary High School. She was a girls varsity basketball coach at Poland from 1970 to 1973. She also taught in the Canfield School District from 1957 to 1958.

Mim excelled in tennis, basketball and field hockey, and was inducted into the Wooster Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987. She was a member of the Wooster College “W” Association, the Wooster Alumni Board, Retired Teachers Association, Poland Retirees Association, Poland Athletic Hall of Fame, New Castle Country Club, Progress Study Club, and various bridge clubs. Mim spent two summers working with the Colcord, West Virginia mission field.

A member of the Poland Presbyterian Church since 1928, Mim served as a deacon, was a member of the Evangelism Committee, and was a member of the choir.

Besides her husband, T. Hill McDonald, whom she married Dec. 25, 1940, Mim leaves three sons, T. Marll (Alice) McDonald of White River Junction, Vt., an author and retired technical writer, Judge Frederick H. (Holly) McDonald of Toledo and Atty. C. Richard (Craig) McDonald of Cleveland; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Friends will be received Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.

A private family graveside service will be held Saturday with the Rev. Gerald Fennell officiating.

Thomas G. Meltz, 38

AUSTINTOWN – Memorial services were held for Thomas G. Meltz, 38, who died May 29, 2009 at his residence.

Tom was born Sept. 4, 1970 in Youngstown, the son of Thomas and Judith (Clair) Meltz and was a lifelong area resident.

Tom had formerly been employed as parts manager for Boardman Nissan before health problems forced his early retirement. He loved to work and build computers.

Tom was a loving father and will sadly be missed by his children; Thomas M. and Dominic A., both of Boardman and Jacob and Gia, both of Canfield. He will be missed by his sisters, Melissa Campbell of Lisbon and Michelle Goss of Mineral Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Amy (Bechara) Muchantif, 80

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be a 10:30 a.m. funeral liturgy on Friday, June 5, at St. Maron Church for Amy (Bechara) Muchantif, 80, who passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 2.

Amy was born Dec. 31, 1928 in Toula, Lebanon, the daughter of Michael and Emily Bechara.

She was a self employed baker.

Amy was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed playing bingo.

Amy will always be remembered by her daughter, Diane (Scott) Guiler of Salem; a sister, Mona Bechara of Youngstown; a brother, Sharbel Bechara of Florida; two grandchildren, J.P. and Scotty Guiler; two nephews, Charles M. Bechara of Youngstown and Michael Bechara of Florida; and a niece, Regette Duvdivani of Florida.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe, Harry and Fuad Bechara; and a sister, Arze Bechara.

Mary Margaret Ohlin, 92

BESSEMER, PA. – Mary Margaret Ohlin, 92, passed away at her residence, the morning of June, 2, 2009.

She was born Dec. 23, 1916, the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Ruzic) Percic.

Mary had worked as a switchboard operator for St. Elizabeth Health Center.

She married her late husband, Frank Ohlin, on Feb. 10, 1934, and he passed away in 1948.

She was a devoted member of the Christ the King Parish, St. Anthony Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Miss Marian Ohlin of Bessemer; a son, Mr. John and his wife, Karen Ohlin of Medina; a daughter-in-law, Irene Ohlin of New Middletown; nine grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Ronald; a granddaughter, Rachel; a great-grandson, Sam; a sister, Mrs. Anne Spisak; and two brothers, Frank and Rudy Ohlin.

Calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 5, at the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home, located at 203 Oak St. in Bessemer, Pa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Christ the King Parish, St. Anthony Church on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at 10:30 a.m.

Graveside services will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery on Oak St.


Ella Mae Pierce, 89

GIRARD – Ella Mae Pierce, 89, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at her home.

She was born Sept. 20, 1919 in Pembroke, Ky., the daughter of the late Oscar and Grace (Morgan) Anderson.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith.

In 1939, she married Emil Wolfe and he passed away in 1951. In 1984, she married Frank Pierce, who passed away in 1992.

She is survived by two sons, Paul “Dick” (Roberta) Wolfe Sr. of Girard and Fred (Patty) Wolfe of Austintown; four grandchildren, Denise Clifford, Paul Wolfe Jr., Sherri Hicks, and Michael Wolfe; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, William and a sister, Ruth.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the McClurkin Funeral Home in Girard with calling hours from 6 to 8 pm.


Betty T. Polyacko, 87

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be funeral services at 9 a.m. Friday, June 5, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church for Betty T. Polyacko, 87, of Youngstown and Pittsburgh, who passed away early Monday morning, June 1.

Betty was born April 25, 1922 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Maximillian and Anna Shopinsky.

Betty was a member of the church, the Sacred Heart Society and Infant Jesus of Prague.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

Her husband, Steve N. Polyacko, whom she married in 1949, passed away in 1991.

Betty will always be remembered by her son, Steve J. (Nancy) Polyack of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Karen A. (Bruce) Bender of Amherst, Maine; four grandchildren, Lisa, Carolyn, Stephanie and Steven; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Mitchell, James and Chester; and four sisters, Helen, Edna, Eva and Florence.

Friends may call today, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman, where an Infant Jesus of Prague Service will be held at 4:45 p.m.



Jane Stackpole, 89

BOARDMAN - Jane Stackpole, 89, died Wednesday morning at the Hospice House.

Mrs. Stackpole was born Jan. 3, 1920 in Lisbon, a daughter of Arthur and Ruby Ranger Wright, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1938 graduate of the Salem High School, a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Youngstown, and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Edgar D. Stackpole, Sr., whom she married Jan. 8, 1940; two sons, Edgar “Sonny” D. Stackpole Jr. and his spouse, Barbara of Powder Springs, Ga. and Arthur Stackpole and his spouse, Patricia of Austintown; one daughter, Jan Rothbauer and her husband, William, whom Jane considered as one of her sons. She also leaves nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur F. Wright and Thomas Ranger Wright and one sister, Virginia “Betty” Wright.

There will be no calling hours or services.

Frank Joseph Szabo, 93

SHARON, PA. – Mr. Frank Joseph Szabo, 93, passed away in his home at 10:10 p.m., June 2, 2009, following an extended illness.

Mr. Szabo was born on Aug. 4, 1915 to his parents, Charles Szabo and Rose Katz Szabo in McKeesport, Pa.

Mr. Szabo graduated from Farrell High School in 1933. Mr. Szabo served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Jan. 1, 1940, Mr. Szabo married his wife, Adelaide Pincus Szabo, who survives at home.

Mr. Szabo owned Szabo’s Jewelry in downtown Sharon for many years. He and his wife served generations of families and deeply valued the relationships with their customer friends.

Mr. Szabo was a member of the Temple Beth Israel in Sharon, the former B’Nai Zion Temple in Farrell, Pa.; the B’Nai Brith Association, where he once served as treasurer, and the Free and Accepted Masonic Lodge No. 810 in Hermitage, Pa.

Mr. Szabo is survived by his wife; two sons, Charles Szabo of Mill Valley, Calif. and Richard Szabo and his wife, Rae of Alexandria, Va.; and four grandchildren, Daniel Szabo of San Diego, Claire Szabo of Alexandria, Va.., Elana Szabo of Mill Valley, and Jenna Szabo of Mill Valley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Elizabeth Leibowitz, Helen Greenberger, Minnie Gelfend, May Bostocky and Laura Schnur.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009, with the Rabbi Daniel Roberts officiating.

Burial will follow at Temple Beth Israel Cemetery in Hermitage, Pa.
