Richard Ashmore, 87
YOUNGSTOWN Services will be Friday, June 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Bread of Life C.O.G.I.C., 100 Myrtle Ave. in Youngstown for Mr. Richard Ashmore, 87, who departed this life Saturday, June 6, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mr. Ashmore was born Jan. 16, 1922 in Cleveland, a son of Van and Lillian Robinson Ashmore.
He was a 1940 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, a World War II Army veteran, and a member of the Pride of Youngstown No. 32 Masonic Lodge. He attended the Messiah Holiness C. O. G. I. C., where he served as a deacon.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a brother, Walter Ashmore of Pontiac, Mich.; two sisters, Alice Ivory and Loretta Powell, both of Youngstown; and a host of family and friends.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sally Jones; a sister, Annabelle Redmond; and two brothers, William V. and Van Ashmore.
Friends may call Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m.

Charlie Mae Chatman, 68
YOUNGSTOWN Services will be Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Greater Friendship Baptist Church for Ms. Charlie Mae Chatman, 68, who departed this life Friday, June 5, 2009, at her home.
Ms. Chatman was born March 5, 1941 in Tunica, Miss., a daughter of Charly and Gertrude Salvage Chatman, coming to this area many years ago.
She had been employed at the former Towel Supply. She was a member of the Greater Friendship Baptist Church, its Levite Usher Ministry, nurses guild and culinary committee. She enjoyed bingo, cooking and being with family.
She leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Larry (Seymone) Chatman, LaVerne Chatman and Terry (Courtney Chatman, all of Columbus, Gertrude (Marlon) McGaughy of Youngstown and Lisa Chatman of Flint, Mich.; a son-in-law, Ronald McCoy of Youngstown; two sisters, Illinois Craft and Katherine Chatman, both of Youngstown; three brothers, Willie (Patricia) Chatman and Carl (Ann) Howell, both of Youngstown and Joe E. Howell of Newport News, Va.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ida Mae Chatman and Minnie Shine; and three brothers, Jeff and Robert Chatman and Sylvester Howell.
Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.

Helen B. Chmielewski, 97
POLAND - Prayers will begin Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Church, for Helen B. Chmielewski, 97, who died Monday afternoon at her home at Sunrise Assisted living in Poland surrounded by her family.
She was born Feb. 22, 1912 in East Youngstown, the daughter of John and Barbara Zetts Judin.
Helen grew up in Campbell, where her father owned and operated Judin Meat Market. She was a 1929 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, where she played basketball and later graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Canton in 1934. She had lived most of her life in this area, where she worked as an Industrial nurse, did general duty work in the Youngstown area hospitals and worked as a private duty nurse before retiring in 1964.
She was a member of the Ohio Nurses Association District Three, Friends of the Poland Library, the Poland Grange, the Catholic Sokols and the Holy Family Church.
She loved gardening and working outside in her yard and could grow anything!
She is survived by three children, George Anthony (Phyllis) Chmielewski of Georgetown, Texas, Judith (Richard) Waid of Warren and Monica Niki Latsko of Poland; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George W. Seubert; her second husband, Stanley Chmielewski; a son-in-law, Jack Latsko; a grandson, Rodney Latsko; four sisters, Anna Repasky, Elizabeth Yankulak, Marie Stanko and Dorothy Patrick; and a brother, Stephen Judin.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.

Marion G. Bonnie Conner, 84
SEBRING Memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Boardman United Methodist Church and on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Copeland Oaks Chapel for Marion G. Bonnie Conner, 84, formerly of Columbiana and Boardman. She passed away Saturday morning at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring.
Mrs. Conner was born March 26, 1925 in Schuylkill Haven, Pa., a daughter of George H. and Alice Dewald Gardner.
She attended Youngstown State University. She had worked for the Department of the Army as a civilian secretary to the Commanding General XVI Corp in Sendai, Japan.
Bonnie was a member of the church. She sang in the choir for 43 years and was involved in many church activities. For her many years of service, she was selected the 2005 Woman of the Year by the church. She also was the primary organizer and first president of the Memorial Society of Greater Youngstown.
Surviving her is her husband, George B. Conner, whom she married April 10, 1953; four sons, Douglas C. (Kathy) of Boardman, Jeffrey L. (Terry) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dean A. Conner of Bartlesville, Okla. and G. Ripley (Debi) of Cartersville, Ga.; and five grandchildren, Bethany A. (Steve) Crane, Christopher C. Conner, Alyssa B. Conner, Melanie A. Conner and Thomas Z. Conner.
Preceding her in death besides her parents is a sister, Joan Sykora.
Friends may call Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Boardman United Methodist Church only.

Dorothy M. Dott Cuzic, 86
FAIRFIELD, CALIF. Dorothy M. Dott Cuzic, 86, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2009.
She was born to John and Anna Owens on Jan. 27, 1923, in Youngstown.
Dott was a homemaker for 61 years. Among her many hobbies, Dott enjoyed creative writing, gardening and shopping. She could find bargains wherever she went. She was an avid reader and loved classic movies.
She was a member of the 11th Airborne Angel-Ettes. She was very proud that her husband, Joe, was a Paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. She was also a parishioner at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Dott is survived by her husband, Joe; a son, David; and grandson, John Owen.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 11, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. that evening.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 12, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are to be made to Northbay Hospice in her memory.

Faye A. Daniels, 83
YOUNGSTOWN Faye A. Daniels, 83, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at her daughters home in Perry.
She was the beloved wife of the late Verne L. Daniels of 49 years; loving mother of Barry (deceased), Deborah Kimes (husband Donald), Dana (wife Stephanie) and daughter-in-law, Christine Daniels Craig; devoted and cherished grandmother of Scott, Jeanine (fiance Frank Stupka), Lisa Marie Heiman-Warnick (husband Michael) and Sheri Lynn Kimes; treasured sister of Jane L. Zimmerman (husband Larry) of Savannah, Ga.; sister-in-law to Violet Daniels and Beryl DiDonna; and many precious nieces and nephews.
Faye married Verne on Aug. 5, 1948 at the United Methodist Friendly Belle Chapel in Youngstown.
Faye graduated from Liberty High School in 1943 and went to work during World War II at the Ravenna Arsonel (four years) and Seaway Foods (27 years, retired).
In her childrens early years, she was very active in Boy and Girl Scouts and even tried her hand in politics. Her greatest love and joy was watching her grandchildren grow and attending everything they were in.
Faye was predeceased by her parents, Fred L. Berlin and Bessie Helle; son Barry L. Daniels (Dec. 28, 1990); husband Verne L. Daniels (March 16, 1998); in-laws Charles Daniels and Matilda Dolly; sisters-in-law, Alice Joyce (husband Jack), Irma Daniels and Katherine Reynolds (husband Don); and brother-in-law Donald Daniels (wife Vi).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Scleroderma Foundation, American Heart Association or Hospice Western Reserve. Addresses are available through the funeral Home.
Services will be held on Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the service and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. with procession for a graveside service at Belmont Park Cemetery.
William J. Dlwgosh, 93
CANFIELD A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Friday at St. Christines Catholic Church, preceded by closing prayers at 12:15 p.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel for William Dlwgosh, 93, who passed away Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
William was born May 31, 1916 in Campbell, a son of the late Joseph and Barbara (Puskarcik) Dlwgosh.
He was a 1934 graduate of East High School with academic honors, he served in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II as a pilot flight instructor. He served as a flight engineer on a B-29.
He retired in 1977 as a milkman with Isalys Dairy after 40 years of service.
William was a member of St. Christines Catholic Church, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.
He was a supportive and involved father throughout his sons lives.
His wife, the former Mary Louise McNally, whom he married April 14, 1944, passed away on Jan. 4, 1996.
He is survived by four sons, Bill Dlwgosh of Warren, Dan (Sheila) Dlwgosh of Canfield, with whom he made his home, Tom (Lauren) Delgosh of South Port, N.C. and Bob (Maria) Dlwgosh of Ashtabula; one sister, Jennie Dlwgosh of Youngstown; and four grandchildren, Darby, Lauren, Bob,and Gina.
Besides his parents and wife, William was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Claridge and two brothers, Emil and Chester Dlwgosh.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Christines in Williams name.

Rev. Dr. Lowell M. Haggerty, 65
LAKE MILTON Rev. Dr. Lowell M. Haggerty, 65, of South Pricetown Road, went home to be with the love of his life, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Lowell was born on March 22, 1944 in Canton, the son of Jack and Edis (Neiswanger) Haggerty.
He was the pastor of the Lake Milton Baptist Temple for 32 1/2 years. Lowell was a 1966 graduate of the Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo., and had received his doctorate degree in 1995 from the Andersonville Baptist Seminary. Lowell also enjoyed the outdoors and hunted in his spare time.
On May 27, 1966, Lowell was united into marriage with the former Gloria A. Carter and had shared 43 years together.
Cherished memories will be remembered by his family, his father Jack Haggerty and wife Helen of Canal Fulton; his wife, Gloria A.; two daughters, Catherine Davis of Berlin Center and Denise Burgy and husband Howard of Youngstown, and later added Debbie Abel and her husband, Virg of North Canton and Bobby Mix and wife Hannah of Deerfield, to their family; two sisters, Blance Beardmore of Navarre and Lois Savage of Independence, Ky.; two brothers, Dean Haggerty of Canal Fulton and Ray Haggerty of Massillon; grandchildren, Ecria and Kenny Davis, Breanna and Kyle Burgy, Abbey and Elizabeth Mix and Christy, Michelle and Aimee Abel; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Lake Milton Baptist Temple, where friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Officiating will be the Rev. Jim Dittmar. Burial will follow at Greenhaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Canfield.

Wilbur Lawrence Hern, 93
YOUNGSTOWN Wilbur Lawrence Hern, 93, passed away early Sunday afternoon, June 7, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Wilbur was born Oct. 8, 1915 in Evanston, Ill., a son of the late George Wilkins Hern and Irene Hein Hern, and moved to this area in 1991.
Mr. Hern served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He became a self-employed businessman who also worked for and retired from the railroad, and was last employed by a real estate management firm.
His wife, Ruth Elizabeth Wahlgren Hern, whom he married July 9, 1940, passed away July 22, 1990.
Wilbur leaves his sister, Shirley (Ted) Ostavitz of Youngstown and many, many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, a brother, Franklin William Hern, is also deceased.
There are no calling hours or local services.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
Interment will be at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb, Ill., where Mr. Hern will lie next to his wife once again.

AUSTINTOWN A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Austintown for Rose M. Sorrentino, 81, who died early Sunday evening at Briarfield Manor Nursing Home in Austintown.
She was born April 24, 1928 in Youngstown, the daughter of Anthony and Clara (Amodio) Santangelo, and she resided in this area all of her life.
She was a 1946 graduate of Youngstown East High School and she spent her adult life as a homemaker, raising her four children.
She was a charter member of St. Joseph Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, reading mystery novels, and working crossword and number puzzles.
Rose was a kind and loving lady, and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lawrence T. Sorrentino Sr., whom she married Oct. 18, 1947. She also leaves behind two sons, Lawrence (Connie) Sorrentino, Jr. of Mineral Ridge and Mark (Jane Miller) Sorrentino of Austintown; two daughters, Karen (Charles) Cowher of Baytown, Texas and Toni Sorrentino of Winter Garden, Fla.; a brother, John (Virginia) Santangelo of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

YOUNGSTOWN A funeral service honoring the precious life of Benjamin C. Tharpe will be held Friday at 11am at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
Benjamin was born June 4, 2009, in Youngstown, a son of Phillip L. and Esther Mitchell Tharpe and it was June 4, 2009 that our Heavenly Father beckoned him home.
He leaves his loving parents of Youngstown; his maternal grandmother, Catherlin Mitchell and his paternal grandmother, Ida Tharpe, both of Youngstown; his godmother, Melissa Freeman of Campbell; a brother, Phillip L. Tharpe Jr. of Youngstown; two sisters, Krystle Taylor of Youngstown and Tinkia Martin of Columbus; five nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and dear friends.
He was greeted in heaven by his maternal grandfather, Roosevelt Mitchell and his paternal grandfather, Thad Tharpe II.
