Frank R. Czubek, 88

HUBBARD – Frank R. Czubek, 88, died Thursday morning, June 18, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 11, 1920 in Campbell, a son of John and Mary Piskorowski Czubek and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Czubek was a welder for Youngstown Sheet and Tube-LTV for 41 1/2 years, retiring Aug. 1, 1982.

He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family, took pride in his vegetable garden, enjoyed auctions and swimming at the Hubbard Community Pool for 23 years.

He leaves his wife, the former Mary Nemetz, whom he married May 21, 1949; two sons, Richard (Cathy) Czubek of Batavia and Frank Czubek of Hubbard; three daughters, Delores (George) Alexee of Canfield, Marilyn (David) Scheetz of Chicago and Paula (Tim) Romano of Hubbard; a sister, Bertha Lilac of Pittsburgh; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Joseph Czubek, Al Kopac, Ed Kopac and Ted Kopachynski.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church.

Kathleen Anne Dailey, 57

BOARDMAN — There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Monday at Saint Charles Church for Kathleen Anne Dailey, 57, who passed away Thursday afternoon at University Hospital in Cleveland.

Kathy was born May 24, 1952 in Youngstown, a daughter of Paul and Helen Tyma Glock.

She graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1970. She worked in retail management for a number of years before retiring from Burlington Coat Factory in 1996. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and planning family functions.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Thomas J. Dailey, whom she married Aug. 7, 1992; her son, Trey; her mother, Helen Glock; two siblings, Joyce Martin of Leesburg, Fla. and Paul Glock of Dublin; four stepchildren, Kelly (Bob) LaRubbio, Kimberly Dailey, Kristine Dailey and Thomas J. Dailey II; three grandchildren, Bobby and Alissa LaRubbio and Christopher Dailey; also many other family members and friends.

Kathy lived her life to the fullest, always putting her family first. She was a loving mother and a trusted friend. She deeply touched the lives of all she came to know. Kathy will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Isadora Barbagello DeWoody, 97

BOARDMAN – Services will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive in Boardman, with the Rev. Robert H. Quaintance officiating, for Isadora Barbagello DeWoody, 97, formerly of Terrace Drive, who died Wednesday at Meridian Arms.

Isadora was born in Youngstown on Aug. 7, 1911, the daughter of Frank and Pauline Russo Barbagello.

She worked at G.M. McKelvey Co. for over 25 years in the shoe/hat departments.

Isadora was a proponent of education throughout her life, having taught Sunday school at the Italian Methodist Mission before her marriage and at the Good Hope Lutheran after her husband passed away. She had led an interesting life and had traveled to interesting places, including the Great Wall of China. She also enjoyed crocheting.

Surviving Isadora is her son, James (LouAnne) DeWoody of Laughlin, N.V.; daughter, Pauline (Robert) Elmendorf of Torrance, Calif.; four grandchildren, Alex, Amir and Adam Dia and Magda Tolan, all of Los Angeles; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James, whom she married in May of 1935, who died in October of 1975; brothers, Samuel Barbe, Leonard Barbagello; and sister, Mary DiMaio.

Family and friends may call at the Schiavone Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, with services to follow.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.


Rose M. McCreay Ferraro, 93

YOUNGSTOWN – Prayers will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown for Rose M. McCreay Ferraro, 93, who passed away Thursday morning at Saint Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Mrs. Ferraro was born July 4, 1915 in Hubbard, a daughter of Andrew and Josephine Vito Camuse and was a lifelong area resident.

She worked at Ohio Bell Telephone Company for 27 years.

Rose was a member of the church and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was an active bingo player and a former member AARP and former volunteer with Hospice.

Her first husband, Charles F. McCreay and her second husband, James R. Ferraro are deceased.

She leaves a daughter, Mary Ellen (Tom) Flaherty of New Middletown; a son, John T. (Pat) McCreay of Westerville; a stepdaughter, Margaret “Peggy” (Bob) Moherman of Austintown; two stepsons, Anthony J. Ferraro of Cleveland and Frank R. Ferraro of Youngstown; a sister, Carmel Borman of Hubbard; 15 grandchildren; 26  great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by a stepson, Charles F. McCreay Jr.; two brothers, John Camuse and James Camuse; and two sisters, Mary Pedaline and Frances Emerick.

Nazarene C. “Naz” Frazzini, 91

“Together Again”

POLAND – Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Wasko Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church for Nazarene C. “Naz” Frazzini, 91, who passed away Thursday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Naz was born June 19, 1917 in East Youngstown, the son of Enrico and Maria DiTullio Frazzini and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and served his country in the U. S. Navy in World War II.

He worked and retired as an Industrial Engineer from Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. and Rockwell International, he was also the owner of Jated Paint Store, formerly Knolls Paints.

He was a very active and supportive member of the church.

His wife, the former Frances V. Kostecki, whom he married on June 8, 1957, passed away on Nov. 25, 2006.

Naz leaves to cherish his memory his son, Ted (Betty) Frazzini of Canfield; his daughter, Marie (Jack) Kozak of Poland; six grandchildren, Jack Kozak, Susan (John) Carney, Nancy Reali, Kim Carney, Kelly Miller and Daniel (Colette) Frazzini; 11 great-granchildren, Anthony and Nicholas Carney, Ceara and Franchesca Carney, Joseph, Thomas, Megan and Madison Miller, Teddi and Daniel Jr. Frazzini and Shiann Reali; and a sister, Josephine Houser of Boardman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Sylvester and Dominic Frazzini; and two sisters, Angeline Miller and Carmel Todessa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Sacred Heart Church in Naz’s name.

The Frazzini family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Louie Henderson Jr. “Scratch,” 61

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Jerusalem Baptist Church for Louie Henderson Jr. “Scratch,” 61, who departed this life Monday, June 15, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Mr. Henderson was born Jan. 27, 1948 in Youngstown, a son of Louie B. Sr. and LuDora Parker Henderson.

He retired from General Motors in 2005, after 31 years of service. He also served two tours during the Vietnam war.

He leaves his mother of Youngstown; his wife, Linda Roland Henderson, whom he married April 22, 2002; two sons, Louie (Veronica) Henderson and Darnell Kelly, both of Youngstown; a daughter, Charmaine Rodgers of Germany; a sister, Marlene Smith of Hubbard; a special aunt, Vera Henderson of Youngstown; and nine grandchildren.

His father; nephew, Robert Smith; uncles, Carl and Charles Henderson; aunts, Dorothy Mason, Irene Grooms and Myrtle Williams, preceded him in death.

Friends may call one hour prior to service at the church.

The family requests that all floral arrangements be sent to the church.

Josephine A. (Dinsio) Marshall, 81

SANDY TOWNSHIP – Josephine A. (Dinsio) Marshall, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday morning in the comfort of her own home, following a courageous four-year battle with lung cancer, with her children and her dog, Blackie, at her side.

Josephine was born in Chicago on Feb. 10, 1928.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Antonina Cadanesa Stimolo; her sister, Roselyn Parisie; and her husbands.

Josephine is survived by her four children, son, Vincent M. Dinsio Jr. (Mr. V.) of Austintown; daughters, Bert J. Dinsio of Sandy Township, President of the Windy City Group, Dr. Kasheena Starr, of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Maria Dinsio LeClaire of New Philadelphia, Ohio. Also surviving are her three grandchildren, Vincent M. Dinsio III of Las Vegas, Danielle Dinsio (The Salon Team) of Austintown and Ronald C. Salvaggio of New Philadelphia; her great-granddaughter, Nina Salvaggio of Dennison, Ohio; and her sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Larry Hoffer of Orlando, Fla.

Josephine was adopted as a mother by Patricia Lyons 20 years ago. Patricia has been a wonderful daughter to Josephine and a good sister to Bert J. Dinsio. Josephine also has a special son, Larry Bartosik, in Chicago, whom Josephine loves dearly. In addition Josephine is survived by several nieces and nephews. Josephine’s special friends include Kim Ernest of Bolivar, Paula Moore of New Philadelphia, Helen Kay of Orlando, Marlene and Murvel Burton of Zoar, Helen Carte, David and Lillian Rennie and Norma Oliver, all of Mineral City.

Josephine held a seat on the Board of Directors for The Windy City Group, a non-profit organization. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Zoar, and the Mineral City Senior Center, which she dearly loved. Josephine was the president of Hospitality and the president of Kindness and Generosity of Life.

“She will be missed every moment of every day. She has been a true friend to all.”

Services will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Fr. Ed Keck officiating.

Interment will be held at a later date at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Ill. following cremation.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Suzanne Mitchell, 68

“Together Again”

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Tuesday, June 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church for Mrs. Suzanne Mitchell, 68, who peacefully entered eternal life Thursday, June 18, 2009, at her home.

Mrs. Mitchell was born Jan. 23, 1941, in Youngstown, a daughter of Thomas and Carrie Bowens Brown.

She had worked with Southside and Northside Hospitals as a physical therapy aide for 38 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, it’s Pastor’s Aide and Pastor’s Appreciation Committee. She was also a member of the NAACP. She was an avid reader of the Holy Bible and her passion was taking care of her loving family.

Her husband, Daniel, whom she married Sept. 2, 1958, passed away April 22, 1996.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, five children, Patrice Mitchell, with whom she made her home, Marilyn Mitchell, Daniel E. (Rachel) Mitchell, John and Darrin Mitchell, all of Youngstown; two brothers, Charles (Dolly) Brown of Dayton and Donnell Brown Texas; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of family and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded by a sister, Betty J. Queener; two brothers, Thomas and George E. Brown; and three grandchildren

Father George Popovich, 83

POLAND – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Bishop George Murry SJ, Monday at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown for Father George Popovich, 83, who entered into eternal rest Thursday morning at the Hospice House surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness.

Fr. George was born June 4, 1926 in Youngstown, the son of Phillip and Anna Kvarta Popovich.

He was a graduate of Ursuline High School, St. Mary College in Kentucky and St. Mary Seminary in Cleveland and did post graduate study at the University of Notre Dame.

Father Popovich was ordained to the priesthood May 26, 1951, in Youngstown by Bishop Emmet M. Walsh. He served as associate pastor at St. John the Baptist Parish in Campbell. He has been pastor at, St. Ambrose in Garretsville, St. Bernadette in Masury, St. Paul in Salem and SS. Cyril and Methodius in Warren. He was named chaplain to St. Joseph Riverside Hospital in Warren in 1984, where he served until December of 2008.

Father Popovich has served as the first diocesan priests personnel director, on the Priests’ Senate, as chairman of the liturgy commission, judge on the marriage tribunal, a consultor to synod 76, as Knights of Columbus Chaplain for councils in Masury, Salem and Warren and a member of the ad hoc committee to study the need for a pastoral council.

Father Popovich served as a member of the Priests Council, as Director of Pastoral Council and as a diocesan consultor.

Father Popovich is survived by his sister, Dorothy Schraider; brothers, Frank (Jennie) Popovich and Thomas (Nancy) Popovich; and sister-in-law, Pauline Popovich. He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews, including the Rev. Stephen Popovich, pastor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown; 28 grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and a great-great-niece and great-great-nephew.

Father Popovich was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph (wife Pauline), Philip and Charles Popovich; his brother-in-law, William Schraider ; and nephew, William Schraider Jr.

Father George had a profound love for the University of Notre Dame and a deep interest in the sport teams. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Browns and Indians.

He especially enjoyed his last assignment as chaplain of St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was affectionately known as “Father Sunshine.” He also enjoyed living at St. James rectory in Warren for a number of those years.

The family of Father Popovich would like to offer thanks to the administrative staff, the sisters, nurses, and all connected with St. Joseph Medical Center for their loving concern and care and the staff of Hospice of the Valley for the excellent care, love and support during his illness.

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of contributions made in Father Popovich’s name to St. Joseph Medical Center or Hospice of the Valley.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.

Friends may also call from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday morning at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Bishop George Murry SJ, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Ronald A. Scott, 70

BOARDMAN – Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Home for Ronald A. Scott, 70. He passed away Thursday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mr. Scott was born April 22, 1939 in McKeesport, Pa., a son of H. Allen and Etta Mae Septer Scott.

He graduated from Boardman High School in 1957, and received his B.S. in education from Youngstown State University and his masters from Westminster College. He was the Director of Housing for Human Services in Pennsylvania and had been a teacher at Butler School (MRDD) and a gym teacher at Leonard Kirtz School. He also was the director of the Bev Road Workshop.

Ron had worked at the basketball and football games at YSU, collecting tickets, and he sold entrance tickets at the Canfield Fair for 47 years. He organized licensed officials for the Special Olympics. He also was the secretary and rules interpreter of the Greater Youngstown Track Officials Association and treasurer of Suburban Cross Country. He was a member of Ohio High School Athletic Association and the USA Track Association. He officiated many college meets including Penn State and Ohio State. He was past president of Boardman boosters and was inducted to the Boardman Hall of Fame in 2000.

Surviving him is his mother of Boardman and his wife, the former Jane Lonardo, whom he married Aug. 21, 1965; a daughter and her husband, Kimberly and Darren Cumbie of Charleston, S.C.; a twin brother, Donald (Carrie) Scott of Monroe, Ga.; a granddaughter, Katelyn Cumbie; and two nieces, Jaimie Lust and Melinda Lyons.

Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
