Walter Bernard Borecki, 89
McDONALD Walter Bernard Borecki, 89, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Omni Manor Health Care Center, where he had resided for the past two weeks. Prior to his death, he had resided at Omni West Assisted Living.
Walter was born on June 8, 1920 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late John and Ursula Borecki.
Walter married Louise Vernello on Aug. 16, 1947, with whom he had four children. They spent their 61 years of marriage in McDonald. Prior to getting married, Walter spent three years in the U.S. Army and received the Bronze Star. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and visits from his family.
Walter will be sadly missed by his family, his four children, Patricia (Dennis) Magyar of Kennett Square, Pa., John (Mary) Borecki of Lake Jackson, Texas, Paula (William) Kunkel of McDonald and James (Kathy) Borecki of Brookfield, Wis.; his six grandchildren, Natalie Borecki, William Kunkel III, Kimberly Troiano, Emily Cappuzzello, Erin Borecki and Elyse Borecki; and his two great-grandchildren, Lillian and Joseph Cappuzzello.
Besides his wife, Louise, he was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frank Borecki; and his sisters, Anne Pavlisko, Genevieve Krumpak and Cecelia Midlick.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the McClurkin Funeral Home in Girard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in McDonald, with prayers at 9:30a.m. at the funeral home.
The family would also like to thank Hospice of the Valley for all their help. And a very special Thank-you to the entire staff of the West Wing at Omni for their care and support. We would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Omni West Assisted Living Residence for taking such good care of our Dad while he was living there.

Marilyn R. Dahlgren, 75
YOUNGSTOWN Services will begin Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman for Marilyn R. Dahlgren, 75, who died Wednesday morning at Hospice House.
Marilyn was born Nov. 3, 1933 in Youngstown, the daughter of Carl and Alfhild Nyberg Dahlgren.
She was a 1951 graduate of Chaney High School and later earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Music Education from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University.
She had worked as a teachers aid for the Struthers Schools, and had been a lifelong member of the Bethel Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sisters, June Dahlgren of Youngstown and Janet Boyer of Austintown; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and her special friend and companion, Leroy McCluggage.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Gail Dahlgren, Carol Dahlgren and Patricia Leyshon and three brothers, Robert Dahlgren, Jacques Jack Dahlgren and Carl J. Dahlgren Jr.
Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church.

Eugene Fludd, 58
WASHINGTON, D.C. Eugene Fludd was born Aug. 19, 1950 and went home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2009.
He was born in South Carolina to the late Henderson and Roas Carr.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Mary Fludd of Washington, D.C.; one son, Lester (Shantel) Hughes; three daughters, Laura Fludd, Regina Hughes and Elizabeth Fludd (mother, Patricia Jackson); one daughter, Annie (Anthony) Scott (mother, Lillie Bell); one stepson, William Payne; and 14 grandchildren.
He also leaves to cherish his memories, four sisters, Daisey, Louis, Lavon and Harriete; and five brothers, John, Samuel, Gregory, Harry and Ronald; and a host of friends and relatives.
Mr. Fludd enjoyed fishing and gardening. He worked for many years at Sheet and Tube Steel.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy Carr and Henderson Carr Jr.
Arrangements are being handled by the Taylors Funeral Home, 1722 N. Capitol St. NW in Washington, D.C., where a funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, June 27, 2009.

Michael David Hernandez, 52
CORTLAND Michael David Hernandez, 52, formerly of Champion, passed away at 10:08 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at his home following a 15 month battle with colon cancer.
Mike was born in Warren on Oct. 22, 1956, the son of Joseph and Betty (Petrick) Hernandez.
A lifetime area resident, Mike graduated high school and went on to become a journeyman electrician through the local IBEW. Mike had worked various jobs with the IBEW before taking a job at General Motors where he had worked for the past 15 years. Mike was a member of the North-Mar Church of Christian & Missionary Alliance in Warren.
Mike was devoted to his family and enjoyed vacationing with them. He was a sports enthusiast especially in golf and softball.
Mike married his wife, the former Tammy Collins, on Oct. 10, 1981. Together they shared 27 years of marriage.
Mike is survived by his wife; his mother, Betty Hernandez of Cortland; two daughters, Karisten (Greg) Packman and Christen Hernandez, both of Cortland; one granddaughter, Miley, on the way; four brothers, Joseph (Diane) Hernandez of Warren, Richard (Debbie) Hernandez of Surprise, Ariz., David Hernandez of Cortland and Jeffrey (Barbara) Hernandez of Waynesville; six nieces and nephews, Tricia, Nicole, Cali, Joey, Gabrielle, and Allison.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Hernandez.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, at the North Mar Church in Warren.
Family will be receiving friends on Sunday, June 28, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren.
Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, that material contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Board St., Canfield, OH 44406.

Marion Ann Longfield, 84
WADSWORTH Marion Ann Longfield, 84, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
She was born Dec. 7, 1924 in East Orange, N.J. to the late Charles and Ann Walters.
Mrs. Longfield was a 50 year member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Wadsworth, was retired from the Wadsworth City Schools, enjoyed quilting with her husband in their retirement years, family vacations at the Outer Banks, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Walters and two sisters, Olive Robertson and Gertrude Nanfelt.
She is survived by her husband, Warren, with whom she celebrated 64 years of marriage on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 and sons and daughters-in-law; Keith and Karen Longfield of Wadsworth, Eugene and Viki Longfield of St. Louis and Bruce and Joelene Longfield of Austintown. There are six grandchildren, Erick (Sarah) Longfield, Kristie Longfield, Jason (Leslie) Longfield, Valerie (Craig) Ross, Katie (Daniel) Boarman and Chad Longfield; two great-grandchildren, Annabelle Marion Boarman and Jaden Nicole Longfield; her sister, Shirley Wyckoff; and her dear friend, Janet Fulton.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St. in Wadsworth.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Trinity United Church of Christ, 215 High St. in Wadsworth, with the Rev. James Singleton officiating.
Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Evelyn Jean Smith, 85
Together Again
BOARDMAN Evelyn Jean Smith, 85, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland from complications of cancer.
She was born Oct. 7, 1923 in New Springfield, the daughter of the late George and Bessie (Bossert) Welton.
Mrs. Smith was a lifelong area resident. She was a homemaker, sold Avon, and also worked at McKevelys in the Revlon department from 1953 to 1960. She was a member of the Boardman Baptist Church, was an avid reader and loved planting flowers and watching them grow. Evelyn also enjoyed watching old time movies and reading her bible.
Evelyn was preceded in death on Jan. 13, 1994 by her husband, Ralph Joseph Smith, whom she married on July 25, 1942.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol (Sidney) Snyder of Winchester, Tenn. and Barbara (Lee) Yaist of Poland; one son, Ralph Smith Jr. of Youngstown; one sister, Arlene (Mike) Mavracick of Boardman; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Boardman Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Massie officiating.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009, prior to the service at the Boardman Baptist Church.

Donald M. Weaver, 83
NORTH LIMA Donald M. Weaver, 83, died June 23, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland.
Mr. Weaver was born April 9, 1926 in Ellwood City, the son of Percy and Alice Fosnaught Weaver.
He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and attended Geneva College.
Mr. Weaver was a World War II Army veteran serving in Okinawa, Japan. He was a sales engineer for Stewart Warner-Alemite Division.
Mr. Weaver was a member of the Poland Presbyterian Church and a dues paying member of the Poland Masonic Lodge.
He enjoyed golf, attending auctions, big band music, spending time at Gemco Aviation, and playing the trumpet.
He is survived by his sister, June Gahagan of Ellwood City; two daughters, Michelle (Rocco) Bova of Lowellville and Kimberly (Jim Erskine) Weaver of Poland; a granddaughter, Daniela Bova; and two nephews, Ronald and Barry Goehring.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce L. Weaver; and his brother-in-law, Harry Gahagan.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 4 p.m. at the Poland Presbyterian Church, where family and friends will be received from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Irene Weaver, Walter Passarello DO, Park Vista, Hospice House and their staff for their compassionate care and prayers.

Matthew J. Yovich, 82
HOWLAND TOWNSHIP There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday June 27, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church with celebrant Fr. Donald E. King, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. service at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, for Matthew J. Yovich, 82, who passed away Wednesday night at St. Joseph Health Center from complications of ALS.
Matthew J. Yovich was born Dec. 19, 1926 in Warren, the son of Stephen and Helen Belinski Yovich.
He was a 1945 Graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and attended Bowling Green State University. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving during Word War II.
He retired in 1987 from Republic Steel after 44 years, where he was the superintendent of the Basic Oxygen Furnace Department.
He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church. He was an active member of the Croatian Lodge No. 182 and had served as an officer.
He was a member of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers, and was named foreman of the year in 1974. Matthew was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing cards. He was a Warren G. Harding Sports fan and loved the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. Matthew loved his family, and was known for his generosity.
He is survived by his wife Lois Shebestok Yovich, who he married Oct. 4, 1952; a daughter, Kathy Yovich of Howland, two sons, Matthew S. (Nola) Yovich of Warren and Edward J. Yovich of Howland; a grandson, Ben (Emily) Pittman; and two great-granddaughters, Lily and Anna. He also leaves two sisters, Anne Mathews of Warren and Mary Vento of Escondido, Calif.; nieces, Elizabeth (David) Tenney, Mary Mathews, Mary Kay (Fred) Heinle, Karen Holloway and Kerry Honeycutt; and nephews, Gary Mathews and David Beichner.
His parents preceded him in death.
Friends may call today, June 26, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel.
Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery.
