John Caroselli, 94
NILES John Caroselli, 94, of 1587 Roosevelt Ave., died at 5:55 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Hospice of The Valley Hospice House in Youngstown.
He was born May 22, 1915 in Wagley, Pa., the son of Frank and Maria Lozzi Caroselli.
John, who was a man of many talents, was a coal miner for five years in Pennsylvania, a meat cutter at Krogers Grocery Store and Morabitos Super Market in Niles, owned and operated Caroselli Grocery in Jeannette, Pa., and was employed at Jeannette Glass. John was also employed in quality control at Packard Electric for 30 years and was a part-time TV repairman before retiring in 1977.
He was an outstanding volunteer at his churches he attended. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church for 40 years. He was currently a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, volunteer for its festival and pizza sales, their adult server for daily Masses and funerals, usher, and Eucharistic Minister, who often brought communion to shut-ins.
John, who was know for his selling of tickets, was an honorary life member and past Grand Knight of the Niles Knights of Columbus Council 1681 and on the district level served as District Governor. He was also an honorary life member of the Monsignor Francis J. Lavery 4th Degree, where he served as Faithful Navigator and Commander.
John enjoyed being a member of the Niles Red Cross, Niles Community Services, Sierra Club, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and volunteered at The LPGA Golf Tournaments that were held every year in the Youngstown-Warren area.
He was a recipient of the Carmen DeChristofaro Citizen of the Year Award, Knights of Columbus District Deputy of the Year, and life member of the North America Hunters Club.
He enjoyed gardening, as he took pride in his red hot peppers, golfing, hunting, wine and sausage making and woodworking.
John, who always had a smile on his face and a fun little chuckle, will be deeply missed by his wife, Rosalina Capuzzi Caroselli, whom he married Oct. 11, 1941; a son, Kelly Caroselli and his wife, Darlene of Warren; two brothers, Joseph Caroselli of Athens and Frank Caroselli and his wife, Margaret of Sayner, Wis.; two grandchildren, David Caroselli and his wife, Anna and Brian Caroselli; two great-granddaughters, Gabriella and Gracelyn; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Zaffuto, Nancy Bills and Theresa Stadtmiller.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Niles, where the Niles Knights of Columbus, Infant Jesus of Prague Guild and the Mt. Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 7:30 p.m..
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, with Fr. Larry Frient officiating, preceded by a 10 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery

Greenawalt, 79
AUSTINTOWN Ronald Marlin Greenawalt, 79, passed away Saturday evening, June 20, 2009, at Austinwoods Nursing Home due to an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 7, 1930 in Pennsylvania, the son of Chester and Mary Greenawalt.
Ron was retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube of 32 years and Mahoning National Bank of 10 years as a Security Guard.
Prior to Rons illiness, he enjoyed being at home with his wife and caring for their pets.
Ron was always a very hard worker and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Joanne (Smith) Greenawalt of 59 years, whom he married June 30, 1950. He also leaves his daughter, Pam Goeller of Ft. Myers, Fla.; son Ken (Darlene) Greenawalt of St. Cloud, Fla.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gail Bedsole of Brandon, Fla.
He was preceeded in death by his eldest son, Don Greenawalt of Youngstown.
The Lane Funeral Homes handled the arrangements.
Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be interred at Lake Park Cemetery.
Per his request, there will be no memorial service.
Richard A. Dick Jewett, 68
WILLIAMSFIELD Richard A. Dick Jewett, 68, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at UHHS Geauga Medical Center.
He was born March 7, 1941 in Middlefield, the son of Francis Best Ike Jewett and Gwendolyn A. (Chittle).
A lifetime area resident, Mr. Jewett was formerly of Gustavus and had lived in Williamsfield since 1983. He was a 1959 graduate of Gustavus High School and served in the National Guard for eight years.
He was employed by Copperweld Steel in Warren for 32 years, and was a horse and cattle dealer for many years. Most recently, he hauled the Amish, horse, and cattle. Mr. Jewett was a member of the Farm Bureau and Guernsey Association, served on the Council for the Farm Credit Bureau, and he was an auctioneer for 25 years. He loved being with his grandchildren, horse trading, hunting, and was a NASCAR fan.
Mr. Jewett is survived by his wife, Nadine M. (Werstler) Jewett, whom he married Feb. 17, 1973 of Williamsfield; his son, Richard (Diane) Jewett of Coxsacki, N.Y.; his daughter, Gwendolyn (Timothy) Kohn of Bristolville; his son, Randy (Jennifer) Jewett of Kinsman; eight grandchildren, Justine Kohn of Farmdale, Michael Jewett of Coxsacki, Gage Ivan Jewett of Kinsman, Nakaylah Sioux Kohn of Bristolville, Emma and Alissa Jewett of Coxsacki and Jason MacLeod and Claire Sophia Jewett of Kinsman; one brother, JR. Jewett of Gustavus; and a stepsister, Karen Rae Dobay of Greene Township.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at noon at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St. in Kinsman. Burial will follow at Hayes Cemetery in Wayne Township.
Calling hours will be today, June 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. and also on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon.

NORTH CANTON Marie J. White (nee Dominic, Charlton), 82, passed away on June 27, 2009.
