Angel Antoinette Beshara, 30

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be at noon on Friday at El Shaddai Dominion Ministries on Liberty Road for Mrs. Angel Antoinette Beshara, 30, who departed this life Friday, June 26, 2009, at Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Mrs. Beshara was born Dec. 27, 1978 in Youngstown, a daughter of Gerald L. Askew Sr. and Christine Thomas.

She was a graduate of Champion High School and was a homemaker.

She leaves her mother and stepfather, Dr. Christine and Matthew L. Snipes of Mineral Ridge; her father, Gerald L. Askew Sr. of Fayetteville, N.C.; seven children, John M., Jevon W., Jalyn D., Jeremiah M., Yazmine C., Judah M. and Kennedy J., all of Youngstown; six siblings, Malachi and his fiancee, Katherine Norman, both of Twinsburg, Micah, Brandy (DeMarcus) Mathes and Lotoya Askew, all of Youngstown, Alesha Hall of Mineral Ridge and Gerald L. Askew Jr. of Bronx, N.Y.

A brother, Marshall Hall Jr. and grandparents, James and Bernice Smith, Nathaniel Sr. and Loris Askew and Ollie L. Rebecca Felder Pless, preceded her in death.

Viewing will be from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Infant Ahmad Nathaniel Britt

YOUNGSTOWN – A funeral service will be at noon today at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church for Infant Ahmad N. Britt, who departed this life Sunday, June 28, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Ahmad was born June 28, 2009 in Youngstown, a son of Nathaniel A. and Jasmin Maddox Britt.

He leaves his parents; a sister, Janasia C. Britt at home; grandparents, John and Brenda Maddox of Youngstown, Jeffrey and Yvette Britt of Deltona, Fla., and Mitch and Leibchin Cullins of Warren; and great-grandparents, Willie and Mattie Thacker, Alice Britt and Madelyn Bryant, all of Youngstown.

An aunt, Vanita Lampkin Jones; an uncle, Javen R. Maddox; and a great-grandparent, Ernest Britt, preceded him in death.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are being handled by the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home.



John Byknish, 87

MASURY – John Byknish, 87, died on Monday, June 29, 2009, at Sharon Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Byknish was born Feb. 5, 1922 in Dixonville, Pa., a son of Alex & Eva (Wilk-Senchisin) Byknish.

He was the first generation born in America and moved to this area when he was seven years old, he had lived in the same house ever since.

He married the former Anna Molnar on Aug. 13, 1955 at St. Johns Carpathian Russian Orthodox Church by the Rev. Paul Tkach, and together they would share 50 years of marriage.

Mr. Byknish had served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a Ball Turret (Waist Gunner) aboard a B-17 with the 457th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force. His decorations and citations included the Air Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon.

Upon his return from the war, John worked as a stainless steel furnace operator at Sharon Steel for nearly 30 years. After his retirement he also worked as a security guard at McDonalds where he enjoyed talking with the young guys who came in about their cars.

John was a proud member of St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sharon where he worked the bingo games as well as helping at the pierogi dinners, a member of the Carpathian Russian Club, and the Sharon American Legion Post No. 0229. Around his home he was known as a Jack of All Trades, who would tinker with anything just to find out what made it tick.

Mr. Byknish is survived by his two sons, David Byknish and his wife, Kathleen of Brookfield and Matthew Byknish of Masury; his three daughters, Christine Byknish and her fiancée, Tom Klouse of Masury, Mariann Byknish of Sanford, N.C., Mrs. Joann Crockett and her husband, Bradley of Apex, N.C.; and by his four grandchildren, David John II, Cory James, and Kayla Marie Byknish of Brookfield and Morgan Jolleen Crockett of Apex.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna; his son, John V. Byknish; his brother, George Senchisin; and six sisters, Nancy Kubyako, Mary Petro, Ann Janosko, Helen Kiefer, Catherine Milan and Margaret Thomas.

Calling hours will be held this evening, Wednesday July 1, 2009, the at Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel in Brookfield from 5 to 8 p.m.

Closing prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the funeral home followed by a funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 389 Clark St. in Sharon, with Father Andrew Gall officiating.

Burial will be at Brookfield Township Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Contributions can be made to the Brookfield Township Fire Department.

Virginia L. “Ginny” Dixon, 66

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Virginia L. “Ginny” Dixon, 66, who died Monday morning at St Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Ginny was born Dec. 8, 1942 in Youngstown, the daughter of William E. and Martha L. (Moss) Daye.

Ginny was a member of the Grace Nazarene Church, loved to play bingo and cook. She always said “There’s always room for one more.” She was owner and operator of Ginny’s Plaza Grill for five years. Ginny loved her family and was a doting grandmother.

She is survived by children, Tess (Norm) Gallagher of Austintown, Elizabeth (Frank) Jenkins of Youngstown, Kimberly (Rick) Grope of Austintown, Donna (Bill) Frazier of Columbus, Brenda (Brett) Waterman of California, Mark (Kerri) Dixon of Youngstown, Marty Jo (Josh) Ervin of Austintown, Ken (Char) Dixon of Texas, Clark (Nancy) Dixon of Austintown and Deborah (Bob) Gordon of Struthers. Ginny is also survived by 26 grandchildren and three sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clark L. Dixon Sr., whom she married Feb. 12, 1972, and who died June 15, 2005 and three brothers.

The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday prior to services.

Leroy D. McCluggage, 86

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be at held 11 a.m Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Leroy D. McCluggage, 86, who died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Heath Center.

Leroy was born Feb. 6, 1923 in Patmos, the son of the late Frank and Clara (Campf) McCluggage.

He retired from Crane Company (Deming Pump), where he had been an electrician. He was a decorated World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and belonged to the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association.

Leroy was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, VFW and the American Legion Post in Lake Milton.

He loved airplanes, motorcycles and most of all his family. He would always lend a helping hand and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

His wife, the former Esther Carlson, whom he married Jan. 20, 1944, died Nov. 10, 1990.

He is survived by three children, Marilyn (Larry) Cone of Youngstown, Ken (Joan) McCluggage of Stonecreek and Janet (Don) Tanner of Summerville, Ga. Leroy also leaves his siblings, Robert Dean (Alice) McCluggage, Lee (Sandy) McCluggage and Millie (Bob) Demes; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Clyod McCluggage; and two sisters, Ruby and Mary June.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday prior to the services.

The family requests that material contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or VFW.

Charles Astor Montgomery, 79

STRUTHERS – Charles Astor Montgomery, 79, died Thursday June 25, of complications from an automobile accident in North Lima.

Mr. Montgomery also known as Chuck was born Feb. 10, 1930 in Murphy, N.C., a son of Worley and Josie Marr Montgomery.

In 1947, he came to Lowellville and worked at Republic Steel. He later owned and operated Chuck’s Towing for 20 years. Mr. Montgomery retired from Ohio Edison Sub Station Maintenance in 1988.

Mr. Montgomery was a member of the Baptist Bible Church in Ravenna and the former St. Albans Masonic Lodge F&AM. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Besides his wife, the former Doris June Earwood, whom he married May 17, 1952, he leaves three sons, C. Michael (Robin) Montgomery of Poland, Daniel (Tina Sainito) Montgomery of Struthers and Bryan (Mary) Montgomery of Petersburg; three sisters, Beulah McCafee, Ruby (Harvey) Stiles and Pauline Brittain, all of Murphy; one brother, Kent Montgomery of Andrews, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Brittany, Danny, Bryan and Sarah Montgomery.

Besides his parents, Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by one brother, Buford Montgomery.

Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers with Vince Hardy officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

Friends will be received Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Struthers.

Irene Josephine Mumaw, 87

“Together Again”

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Friday, July 3, at 9:30 a.m. at the Kubina-Yuhasz Funeral Home, 5925 Market St. in Boardman and at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church in Youngstown for Irene Josephine Mumaw, 87, who passed away early Tuesday morning at the Caprice Health Care Center.

Mrs. Mumaw was born in Youngstown Feb. 23, 1922, the daughter of Joseph and Helen Novak Hyziak.

Irene graduated from South High School in 1940 and lived in Youngstown all of her life. She retired as the secretary of St. Stanislaus Church in 1986 after more than 30 years of service. She was a member of the church and also of its Altar and Rosary Sodality, the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild and St. Stanislaus Senior Citizens. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, taking Holy Communion to the homebound and, many years ago, as Bingo treasurer.

She is survived by her son, James D. (Beverly) Mumaw Jr. of Coitsville; a son-in-law, Thomas DePoy of Youngstown; her grandchildren, James D. Mumaw III and Joseph Mumaw, Crista (Michael) DePoy-Fletcher,and Thomas (Anjanette) DePoy; her stepgrandsons, Donald (Rita) Cole Jr. and Thomas and Robert Ferry; three great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Mumaw Sr., whom she married Oct. 29, 1941 and who died March 12, 2000; her daughter, Helena Sue DePoy; and her brothers, Robert and Henry Hyziak.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where a prayer service will be held at 4:45 p.m.

Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

Joseph Raniolo, 83

EAST PALESTINE – Joseph Raniolo, 83, of 703 W. Grant St., went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 11:40 p.m. Sunday following a short illness.

Mr. Raniolo was born Oct. 10, 1925 in Youngstown, a son of Samuel and Agnes Sawyer Raniolo and had lived here 59 years coming from the Smokey Hollow Youngstown area.

Joseph was a foreman for Armstrong Cork Company in Beaver Falls, Pa. for 34 years retiring in 1988. During that time, he served as a union officer. He had also worked as a brick layer. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving in the Philippines.

He was a member of the George F. McBane Post 31 American Legion, the Edward L. McGuckin Post No. 4579 VFW, Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1506 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 467, all of East Palestine. He was a volunteer fireman for Unity Township and Negley Volunteer Fire Department.

Joe loved to fish and garden and loved his roses. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan.

His first wife, the former Marie T. Bennett, whom he married March 3, 1946, died July 21, 1964. His second wife, the former Patricia Thompson, whom he married June 6, 1974, died Jan. 3, 2001.

He is survived by five daughters, Agnes (Harry) Joachim of Rogers, Florence (Donald) Zduniak of Howland, Joann (James) Sullivan of Hubbard, Bonita (Melvin) Peterson of East Palestine and Frances Raniolo of Struthers; a son, Joseph (Barbara) Raniolo of York, Pa.; a brother, Walter (Beverly) Raniolo of Wellsville; eight grandchildren, James, Jason and Jeffrey Joachim, Tracy Zduniak, David (Heidi) Peterson, Bonita (Nick) Marchionte, Bianca and Braxton Koup; two great-grandchildren, Frankie and Jacob; and his grandpuppies, Donavon and Noah.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Clymire and a brother, George Raniolo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Reverend Michael Swierz officiating. Burial will follow at Glenview Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home in East Palestine.
