Roy J. Bowman, 78
NORTH LIMA Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ for Roy J. Bowman, 78, who died Thursday evening at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Roy was born Sept. 30, 1930 in Ellsworth to the late Hugh and Ethel (Delfs) Bowman.
Roy was a 1948 graduate of Canfield High School, Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University and a member of the American Institute of Banking.
He retired in 1992 as the Executive Vice President and Branch Administrator of Mahoning National Bancorp Inc. after 42 years of service. Roy held many positions within the bank including branch manager of the Jackson-Milton, Boardman, and Southside branches. He also oversaw construction at many branches.
Roy was active with the Canfield Fair, serving it for over 39 years. He was a 11-year member of the Ellsworth Junior farmers 4-H, and served the Junior Fair Board for four years. He established admissions office and Change Bank under the directorship of William Kilcawley in 1955. Roy supervised this department from 1955 until he was appointed director in April 1969, filling the term left vacant by the death of his father, Hugh Bowman. Roy was a director of banking, tickets, admissions, traffic, and parking coordinating with the Ohio State Patrol, Canfield Police, and the Mahoning County Sheriffs Dept. for 25 years. He served as President in 1978 and 1979. He retired from the board in 1994.
He was elected by District 9 to serve on the Ohio Fair Managers Associations Executive Committee. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Secretary of Agriculture in January of 1985. He also received the Achievement Award from the Secretary of Agriculture in January of 1993.
Roy was active with fund raising for the United Appeal and Red Cross. He was past member of the Youngstown Chamber of Commerce, where he served as the chairman of Education. Past president and member of the Boardman Rotary, Boardman Civic Association, and South Range School Board. In June of 1993, he was honored by the Youngstown YMCA as Man of the Year for his outstanding civic leadership.
Roy is survived by his wife, the former Verna M. Zimmerman; three children, Diann (Margaret Jones) Bowman of Southington, Linda (Thomas) Eisenbraun of Poland and John (Joanne) Bowman of Brookline, Mass; seven grandchildren, Mark (Lynne Schuller) Veynovich, Jim (Lisa Masucci) Knopp, Sarah Bowman, Phillip Bowman, Lisa (Robert) McGehee, Tom B. (Rose Herrle) Eisenbraun and Shauna (Barry) Yane; 11 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, Alexa, Zane, Brandi, Justin, Amber, Jena, Shawn, Samantha and Addison; a brother, Lee E. Bowman of Hanoverton.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale D. and Randall Bowman.
Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima Chapel.

Miriam Agnes Mimi (Collins) Grimes, 89
CHIPPEWA TOWNSHIP Miriam Agnes Mimi (Collins) Grimes, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehab Center, where she had been a resident for ten months.
She was born Dec. 6, 1919 in Youngstown and was the only child of Joseph Richard and Anna Helena Helen (Walsh) Collins.
She was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Marys Church in Beaver Falls,.Pa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. Jerry Grimes in 1990 and her son, Ronald Joseph Grimes in 1988.
She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Gerri Grimes (McAdams), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lutton Chippewa Funeral Home, 117 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, PA 15010.
Prayers will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Marys Church in Beaver Falls, with Father James B. Farnan as celebrant.
Interment will follow at St. Marys Cemetery in Chippewa Township.

Christina May Hake, 75
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP Christina May Hake, 75, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Christina was born Sept. 18, 1933 in Newell, S.D. to Daniel and Magdalena Schrenser Krein.
She is survived by her husband, Russell J. Hake, whom she married April 17, 1970; her children, Ralph, Kathy, Nancy, Daniel, Roger, Michael, James, Bianca, Julie and Kingsley; sisters, Alice, Lillie, Maggie and Esther; brother, John; 26 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Phillip and Daniel.
Services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home, where visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Andrew J. Kadvan, 80
STRUTHERS Prayers will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church for Andrew J. Kadvan, 80, who passed away Thursday evening at his home surrounded by his family.
Andrew was born Oct. 26, 1928 in Youngstown, the son of the late John and Josephine (Herceg) Kadvan.
Andrew was a graduate of Chaney High School. He was a cement truck driver for Youngstown Building Materials for 35 years, retiring in 1988. Andrew was a member of the Mahoning Valley Sportsmans Club in Hillsville and the Catholic Sokols. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening.
Andrew leaves his wife, the former Christine Rose Naples, whom he married Nov. 25, 1948; two daughters, Margaret Moggie (Thomas) Bero of Poland and Tina (Thomas) Gilpin, with whom he made his home with in Struthers; two sons, Andrew (Betty Ann) Kadvan Jr. of Poland and Gary Kadvan of Struthers; 12 grandchildren, Ralph Gilpin, Jason Gilpin (Amanda), Ronnie Galazia (Jamie), Sergio Galazia, Aaron (Jennifer) Bero, Josh Bero, Christopher Kadvan (Liz), Nicky Mshar (Darlene), Michael Kadvan, Mandi (Douglas) Musser, Lisa (Alan) Clark and Nicole Fray ; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marie Galazia Tisone; a grandson, Gary Kadvan; two sisters, Celia Check and Magdaline Vasko; two brothers, John and Joseph Kadvan.
The family will be receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Iona Marie Kerensky, 86
AUSTINTOWN Iona Marie Kerensky, 86, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, July 2, 2009, at her home.
Iona was born Dec. 26, 1922 in Dustin, Okla., a daughter of the late John William and Cora Bell Wheat.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Wickliffe Christian Church. She was also a member of the Jokerettes Card Club and enjoyed bowling.
Iona took great pride in her immediate and extended family, and was most affectionately known as Baby Doe Grandma by all.
She leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald P. and Catherine Kerensky of Austintown, with whom she made her home; seven grandchildren, including James Murphy, Michael (Kristen) Kerensky, Ronald (Kendra) Kerensky, Craig (Bertie) Kerensky; and nine great-grandchildren.
Iona will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Kerensky, whom she married in 1945; a son, Robert D. Kerensky; two sisters; and a brother.

Louis Arthur Leombruno Jr. 69
POLAND Louis Arthur Leombruno Jr., 69, died Friday morning, July 3, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Mr. Leombruno was born Dec. 16, 1939 in Youngstown, a son of Louis and Mildred Solic Leombruno. He was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Leombruno was a 1958 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy.
He worked as a welder for Boardman Steel. After retirement, he worked for the Allied Erecting Dismantling as a welder. Mr. Leombruno loved golfing, growing tomatoes and playing cards. He was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Esquire Club, Catholic War Vets and the Eagles Post 213 in Youngstown.
Besides his mother of Boardman, he is survived by his life partner, Sandy Mink of Boardman; one brother, Bill Leombruno of Boardman; three sisters, Mary Ann (Don) Kane of Canfield, Martha (Bob) Krompegel of Boardman and Doretta DeLisio of Boardman; three nieces, Kim Krompegel, Karla Krompegel and Amy DeLisio; and two nephews, Don (Trish) Kane and Bill DeLisio.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Arthur Leombruno Sr.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Youngstown. Interment will follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, where prayer services will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m.

Theodore J. Ted Lyda, 79
PETERSBURG Mr. Theodore J. Ted Lyda, 79, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009, at his residence with his family around him.
He was born in Poland on Dec. 1, 1929, the son of the late John Lyda and Katherine (Maxgay) Lyda.
Ted had attended the Springfield Local High School.and had worked for many years as a heavy equipment mechanic for several local companies.
He retired in 1988 from his last company in Harrison County.
He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.in New Middletown, where he worked for the Silas Marner Group and aided in Church Pirogi sales.
He was also a member of Knights of Columbus and the Springfield Township Historical Society, the Dusquene Hunting & Fishing Club, and Ted was a former Cub Scout Leader.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Bilock) Lyda at Home; two daughters, Mrs. Katherine and William Wilson of Poland and Mrs. Mary and John Franci of Canal Winchester; six sons, Mr. Thaddeus and Janet Lyda of North Lima, Mr. Nicholas and Barb Lyda of Phoenix, Mr. Jerome and Billie-Jean Lyda of North Lima, Mr. Frederick and Cindy Lyda of Petersburg, Mr. Bill and Pam Lyda of Salem and Mr. Paul and Lisa Lyda of Powell; three sisters, Mrs. Cicilia Day of North Lima, Mrs. Valeria and Joseph DeMidovich of Boardman and Mrs. Geneive Glista of Canfield; one brother, Mr. George and Kathy Lyda of Poland; two sisters-in-law, Geneivie Lyda of North Lima and Dorothy Lyda of New Middletown; 24 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Ted was preceeded in death by a sister, Mrs. Sophie Siembida; two brothers, Frank and Edward Lyda; and a grandson, Russell Lyda.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009, and from 9:30 a.m. to the service time on Monday, July 6, at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Mew Middletown.
Funeral services will be at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, with Fr. Nicholas Shori officiating.
A procession will leave the church at 11:30 a.m. for a commital service at Petersburg Cemetery in Petersburg.

Ruth Ann Gilliam Pless, 68
YOUNGSTOWN Services will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Jerusalem Baptist Church for Mrs. Ruth Ann Gilliam Pless, 68, who departed this life Monday, June 29, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Pless was born Nov. 29, 1940 in Portland, Ark., a daughter of Horace and Naomi Clemons Hodges, coming to this area many years ago.
A 1959 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, Ruth had been employed at the former Towel Supply. She was a former member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, where she served in the choir and usher ministry and was church secretary. She was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church, served on the Usher Ministry and was assistant church clerk. She enjoyed playing bingo, traveling and being with family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Naomi Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas; husband, Coleman Pless of Youngstown; four children, William (Jeanette) Gilliam Jr. of Fort Port, La., Calvin (Shannon) Gilliam of Maryland; Alesia (Larry) Lee of Youngstown and Kim Demps of Campbell; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Horace (Alberta) Hodges Jr. of Stockton, Calif., Leroy (Carrie) Hodges of Maryland; Larry Hodges, Dwayne (Michele) Hodges, Linda Mason and Rita (Willam) Starks, all of Little Rock, Ark., George (Pearly) Stepps of Pine Bluff, Ark., Hildra (Marshall) Butler of Kansas City, Mo., Ruby Lee (Joe) Everette of Detroit, Delores Smith of Los Angeles, Martha Jones of Dermett, Ark.; Frances Adams, Lucille Pickard, Gloria (John) Jones and Ricky Hodges; and two sisters-in-law, Delores Croft and Mamie Gilliam, all of Youngstown; and a host of family and friends.

Tracey L. Singiser, 49
AUSTINTOWN Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Tracey L. Singiser, 49, who died early Friday morning at the Hospice House in Poland.
She was born April 1, 1960 in Youngstown, the daughter of John W. and Edith A. (Webb) Vanasdale and she resided in this area all of her life.
She was a 1978 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. She was also a member of the Christ United Presbyterian Church in Youngstown.
She was the owner and operator of the Little Lotto Shack in Austintown. She had also worked for several years as a teller for First Place Bank, and most recently she worked as a toll collector for the Ohio Turnpike Commission.
Tracey was a kind and loving lady and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her mother, Edith of Austintown; her fiancée, David Batton of Austintown, with whom she made her home; a daughter, Kimberly L. Singiser of Austintown; a stepdaughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Callahan of Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Cailin, Devin, Kate and Kara; and a brother, Ronald Vanasdale of Orlando, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Jason E. Singiser.

Robert J. Smith, 64
NILES Robert J. Smith, 64, of 418 Baldwin Ave., formerly of Salem, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Akron Childrens Hospital.
He was born Nov. 19, 1944 in East Palestine, the son of the late Zeen and Helen Eaton Smith.
Bob was a graduate of Salem High School and has been reenacting the Civil War since 1962. He started with the 19th Light Artillery in Salem, then joined the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in Niles in 1991. In that time, Bob has marched on more battlefields, eaten more meals over the open fire, slept in more tents on hard ground, and known more soldiers than the average man in the original Civil War. He loved history and would talk about it for hours.
His wife, Mary Poli, whom he married Nov 23, 1991, survives him along with a stepson, Gabriel Poli.
Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will held be at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home, with Father Thomas Eisweirth officiating.
Chaplain Ron Johnson along with the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Civil War Reenactment Group will perform a tribute to Bob Smith.
The Civil War Reenactment Group will then conduct the services at Stark Memorial and at Hope Cemetery. The group will then march behind the horse drawn hearse to Hope Cemetery, where the Civil War Reenactment Group will complete the services.
Rafael Torres, 68
YOUNGSTOWN Services will be at 9 a.m. Monday, July 6 at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rosa de Lima Church, 394 Tenney Ave. in Campbell with the Rev. Msgr. John P. Ashton celebrating for Rafael Torres, 68, who passed away Wednesday evening, July 1.
Rafael was born May 16, 1941 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, the son of Francisco and Clotilde Natal Torres.
He retired as a shipper from the Aerolite Extrusion Company. He was a member of St. Rose de Lima Church. Rafael enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, taking his many walks as well as being a man of chance.
Rafael will be sadly missed by his daughter, Linda Longmire of Youngstown; two granddaughters, Alicia Longmire and Jordan Thomas; Monty (Carmen) Lopez, who was like the brother he never had and his best friend; his extended family, Sgt. Detective Anthony Longmire, Cynthia Torres, Kealyn and Keylan Pruden, Sandria and Kalyn Spires, Aurea Irizarry, Brandy Irisarry, Amy Bruss and Daniella Mercer; and many other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Melinda Fodiak Zuppo, 58
YORK, S.C. Ms. Melinda Fodiak Zuppo, 58, of 2914 Chester Highway, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Divine Saviour Catholic Church, 232 Herndon Ave. in York. Entombment will follow at the home in the family mausoleum.
A native of Pittsburgh, Melinda was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anne Swartz Fodiak and the widow of Gerald Anthony Zuppo Sr.
A member of the Divine Saviour Catholic Church, she was a homemaker and a devoted mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her sons, Jerry Zuppo Jr. and wife, Melissa and Nicholas Zuppo; three brothers, Mike Foriska of Pittsburgh, George Foriska of Austintown and Joe Foriska, also of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Vivian Culp and husband, Dave of Carrollton, Texas and Susan Garrett and husband, Jeff of Dallas; and two grandchildren, Miss Nikkie Zuppo and Jerry Zuppo I.
In addition to her parents and husband, Melinda was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Zuppo and her mother-in-law, Anna Zuppo.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009, at the Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 and other times at the home.
A Vigil service will be conducted at 7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the visitation.
