Ivan C. Blevins, 90

SUN CITY CENTER, FLA.– Ivan C. Blevins, 90, died on June 26, 2009. He had been a resident of Florida, since 1993.

He was born to Thomas C. Blevins and Martha McConnell Blevins on Jan. 15, 1919 in Volant, Lawrence County, Pa.

He graduated from New Wilmington High School (Pennsylvania) in 1935 and attended Slippery Rock State Teacher College, University of Pennsylvania, University of Baltimore and Youngstown State University.

He lived in Maryland from 1943 to 1965, working for Glenn L. Martin Aircraft and General Motors. He transferred to the then new GM Lordstown Assembly Plant in Ohio in 1966. He retired there as office supervisor in 1982, after 35 years of service.

Mr. Blevins was active in politics, serving in various positions in the Republican Party. He was a candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates in 1954 and Baltimore County Council in 1962. In Ohio, he was a candidate for City Council of Canfield in 1975 and in 1977, also, Ohio State Legislature in 1976.

Mr. Blevins was born of Presbyterian parents, but joined and attended Orems Methodist Church in Middle River, Md. There he followed a lifelong interest in Sunday school teaching and other church work such as Sunday school treasurer, youth superintendent, Bible class president, financial secretary, member of official board and serving it as vice-chairman, representative to Ecumenical Counsel, member of administrative board, chairman of trustee, Lay Leader and delegate to annual conference.

His parents; two sisters; two brothers; and his daughter, Helen Magor, preceded him in death.

He was married Aug. 14, 1943, in Orems Methodist Church in Middle River, to Marian Johnston Schultz, and they had five children. She died in 1986. Two children, Mary Grahe and son John C., preceded her in death.

Ivan is survived by two children, Roger Blevins and Janet Blevins of Austintown; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his second wife, Flo Blevins, the former Florence Link Lally, whom he married in 1987.

Services will be on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Sun City Center United Methodist Church.

Matthew H. Dzurenko, 49

AURORA – Matthew H. Dzurenko, 49, of 10238 Clipper Cove, died Thursday morning of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mr. Dzurenko was born May 15, 1960, in Conneaut, a son of Michael and Eleanor Jean Myers Dzurenko and had lived in Aurora for two years, coming from Columbiana.

Matthew was a 1978 graduate of Columbiana High School and a 1983 graduate of Youngstown State University. He was a sales representative for Unifirst in Cleveland. Matthew was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Columbiana and several softball leagues in the area.

Matthew is survived by two sisters, Monica Macklin of Columbiana and Mary Yelic of Littleton, Colo.; five brothers, Mark Dzurenko of Parma, his twin, Michael Dzurenko Jr. of Powder Springs, Ga., Monte Dzurenko of Odenton, Md., Martin Dzuenko of Richardson, Texas and Mitchell Dzurenko of Powell; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana with the Reverend Thomas G. Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow at Columbiana Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana.

Kenneth O. Graffius, 68

NORTH LIMA - Services will begin Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at Seederly Mong and Beck in North Lima for Kenneth O. Graffius, 68, who died Thursday, July 2, at the Hospice House.

Ken was born July 10, 1940, in Youngstown, the son of Richard and Thelma Royce Graffius.

He had worked as a Ford Technician for more than 40 years, working for Kroehle Lincoln Mercury, Stadium Lincoln Mercury and later retired from Fairway Ford in Canfield in 2002.

He was a 40-year member of the Tri County 4 Wheelers in Lisbon, where he enjoyed racing jeeps. He was a lifelong hunter.

He is survived by June Graffius, whom he was married to for 22 years; his four children, Linda (Michael) Pudik of Chapel Hill, N.C., Barbie (Dana) Ridgeway of North Lima, Joseph Graffius of Leetonia and Joanie (Don) Manning of North Lima; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lou Walters of Arizona; a brother, Robert (Carol) Graffius of Canfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He also leaves his beloved dogs, Mick and Ginger.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Art and Don; and a sister, Elsie Fusco.

Sherryl Rae Hart, 56

HOUSTON – Sherryl Rae Hart, 56, passed away July 3, 2009, at her home in Houston, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Youngstown and was a graduate of Youngstown State University.

Sheree served as manager of the YWCA in Houston for several years and continued her management career at Woodlawn Cemetery and Funeral Home.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Robert W. Hart; her children Sarah Gunn and husband Aaron, Seth Hart and wife Rachelle, and Garrett Hart; and of Boardman, her parents, Raymond and Barbara McKinley Dibble, and her sisters, Lynne Keeney and husband Jim and Denise McCloud and husband Tom..

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jeffrey Dibble.

Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, July 7 at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Nicholas B. Johnson Jr., 65

AUSTINTOWN – Nicholas B. Johnson Jr., 65, passed away early Friday morning, July 3, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center following a brief illness.

Nicholas was born Feb. 11, 1944, in Youngstown, a son of the late Nicholas B. Sr. and Alison Scott Johnson, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in California.

Nick was employed as a truck driver for over 35 years for various companies, and retired in June of 2007.

Mr. Johnson leaves his wife, Linda D. Duncan Johnson, whom he married June 24, 1969; six children, Nicholas B. Johnson III of Pittsburgh, Pa., Diana (Joe) Flores of Phoenix, Ariz., Scott Johnson of Girard and Jennifer Johnson, Michael Johnson, and Stefanie Johnson, each of Youngstown; four grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Trent, and Natalie; and a sister, Jean Phillips of Boardman.

The are no calling hours. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Andrew J. Kadvan, 80

STRUTHERS – Prayers will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church for Andrew J. Kadvan, 80, who passed away Thursday evening at his home surrounded by his family.

Andrew was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Youngstown, the son of the late John and Josephine (Herceg) Kadvan.

Andrew was a graduate of Chaney High School. He was a cement truck driver for Youngstown Building Materials for 35 years, retiring in 1988. Andrew was a member of the Mahoning Valley Sportsmans Club in Hillsville and the Catholic Sokols. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening.

Andrew leaves his wife, the former Christine Rose Naples, whom he married Nov. 25, 1948; two daughters, Margaret “Moggie” (Thomas) Bero of Poland and Tina (Thomas) Gilpin, with whom he made his home with in Struthers; two sons, Andrew (Betty Ann) Kadvan Jr. of Poland and Gary Kadvan of Struthers; 12 grandchildren, Ralph Gilpin, Jason Gilpin (Amanda), Ronnie Galazia (Jamie), Sergio Galazia, Aaron (Jennifer) Bero, Josh Bero, Christopher Kadvan (Liz), Nicky Mshar (Darlene), Michael Kadvan, Mandi (Douglas) Musser, Lisa (Alan) Clark and Nicole Fray ; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marie Galazia Tisone; a grandson, Gary Kadvan; two sisters, Celia Check and Magdaline Vasko; two brothers, John and Joseph Kadvan.

The family will be receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Paul John Kuharich Jr., 63

SCOTT DEPOT, W.VA. –Paul John Kuharich Jr., 63, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009, after a courageous lifelong battle with diabetes.

Paul was a retired senior sales representative for Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

Paul never met a stranger, loved nature and travel, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, coached youth sports and was an avid golfer.

When he became an amputee, he volunteered at professional golf tournaments and participated in awareness and advocacy groups for the disabled, including Partners in Policymaking and the Eastern Amputee Golf Association.

He was a graduate of McDonald High School and a graduate of Youngstown State University.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul John and Josephine Rosko Kuharich Sr., and sister, Betty Ann Kuharich.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Sharon E. Kuharich; sons and daughter-in-law, Paul John and Michelle Kuharich III of Dunbar, W.Va., and Christopher Brandon Kuharich of Scott Depot; sisters, Margaret Joseph of Lakewood and Jodi Danko of Centreville, Va.; and a grandson, Matthew Joseph Kuharich.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the Chapman Funeral Home in Winfield, W.Va. with Hayward Harper officiating.

Burial was at Winfield Cemetery in Winfield.

Janet L. Marik, 84

LEIGH ACRES, FLA. – Janet L. Marik, 84, formerly of Palmyra, passed peacefully to the Lord in her sleep early on June 29, 2009.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Walter; children, Rebecca (Michael) Sterling of Peninsula, Deborah of Warren and Robert (Linda) of North Jackson; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan; her parents, Julius and Mae Rose; and a brother, Richard.

A memorial service will be held on July 11, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Palmyra United Methodist Church in Palmyra, where the family will receive friends at 1 p.m.

Marilyn J. McNaughton, 64

VIENNA – Marilyn J. McNaughton, 64, of 1 Ceres Drive, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, at St. Joseph Health Center Eastland in Warren.

She was born March 8, 1945, in Warren, the daughter of Wilbur and Helen Watson Strohl.

Marilyn was a 1963 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and a homemaker and enjoyed playing solitaire and watching soap operas.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Robert E. McNaughton, whom she married Jan. 5, 1974; a daughter, Christine Beheler and husband Craig of Cortland; a brother, Robert Strohl of Howland; and two grandchildren, Christalyn and C.J.

She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher L. McNaughton; a brother, William Strohl; and her parents.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor John Preusser officiating.

Sherri L. Meek, 46

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Sherri L. Meek, 46, who went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 2 at University Hospital in Cleveland, due to a rare autoimmune disease.

Sherri was born Sept. 28, 1962, in Uniontown, Pa., the daughter of Jesse Jr. and Marlene (Doman) Meek.

Sherri was a 1980 graduate of Western Reserve High School in Berlin Center and a 1982 graduate of Willoughby-Eastlake School of Nursing. She had been a nurse for more than 25 years and was employed by Omni West as the Resident Care Coordinator.

Sherri was a loving, compassionate person who always opened up her heart to others.

She leaves her mother, Marlene Meek of Berlin Center; two grandmothers, Eleanor Meek of Berlin Center and Marge Doman of Uniontown; a sister, Tracie (Chris) Cummings of Berlin Center; a brother, Jesse (Maria) Meek of Berlin Center; her boyfriend, Mark Stanley of Austintown; three nieces, Presley Cummings, Shelby and Karlie Meek; a nephew, Chase Cummings; and her dog, Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse S. Meek Jr.; and two grandfathers, Jesse S. Meek Sr. and William E. Doman.

The family will be receiving friends Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Tracey L. Singiser, 49

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Tracey L. Singiser, 49, who died early Friday morning at the Hospice House in Poland.

She was born April 1, 1960, in Youngstown, the daughter of John W. and Edith A. (Webb) Vanasdale, and she resided in this area all of her life.

She was a 1978 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. She was also a member of the Christ United Presbyterian Church in Youngstown.

She was the owner and operator of the Little Lotto Shack in Austintown. She had also worked for several years as a teller for First Place Bank, and most recently she worked as a toll collector for the Ohio Turnpike Commission.

Tracey was a kind and loving lady and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her mother, Edith of Austintown; her fiancée, David Batton of Austintown, with whom she made her home; a daughter, Kimberly L. Singiser of Austintown; a stepdaughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Callahan of Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Cailin, Devin, Kate and Kara; and a brother, Ronald Vanasdale of Orlando, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Jason E. Singiser.

Albert T. Sparre, 96

BOARDMAN – There will be services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Anstrom-Velker Funeral Home, 75 E. Midlothian Blvd., for Albert T. Sparre, 96, who died Thursday evening at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

He was born Sept. 11, 1912, in Youngstown, a son of Charles and Anna Marie Oden Sparre.

Albert was employed by Republic Steel Corp. in the accounting department for 32 years, retiring in 1975.

He was a 1931 graduated of South High School and served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army.

Albert had attended the First Covenant Church. He was delighted by the company of his beloved dog, Amy, as the two watched over the neighborhood. He also enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

His wife, the former Helen R. Repasky, whom he married Sept. 7, 1946, died Nov. 6, 1978.

He is survived by his daughters, Mary A. Semivan and husband John of Boardman and Carol D. Sparre and husband Jerry Collins of Madison, Wis.; his grandson, Ryan Collins; and his stepgrandchildren, Jonathan and Raina Semivan.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gunhild (Mary) Sparre and Viola Sparre; and three brothers, Charles R., Ernest C. and Eric E. Sparre.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

John T. Theil Sr., 74

LEETONIA – John T. Theil Sr., 74, died suddenly Friday evening at his home.

Mr. Theil was born July 27, 1934, in Monaca, Pa., son of John S. and Mary Rill Theil, and had lived in Leetonia most of his life.

John was a truck driver for Youngstown Cartage, where he owned and operated his own fleet of trucks. He also worked for Borden Dairy for 15 years before retiring in 1995.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Leetonia, FOE No. 1496 and the Joe Williams Post No. 131 American Legion. John served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, the former Norma E. Mincks, whom he married June 9, 1957; a daughter, Christine (Michael) Quinn of Canfield; two sons, John (Carla) Theil Jr. of Columbiana and Steven (Theresa) Theil of Damascus; four sisters, Ester Hallaman of Boardman, Sara Stumpo of Poland, Mary Ann (John) Morgan of Long Island, N.Y., and Susan (William) Snyder of Columbiana; a brother, Robert Theil of Espyville, Pa.; and seven grandchildren, Kaitlan and Aaron Quinn, John III, Jacob and Kendall Theil and Emily and Steven Theil.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating.

Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

Lucy (Kramer) Uhlar, 84

BOARDMAN – The Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 7 at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 1898 Wilson Ave. in Youngstown, with Father Frank Firko Celebrating for Lucy (Kramer) Uhlar, 84, who passed away Saturday morning, July 4.

Lucy was born March 24, 1925, in Williamsburg, Pa., the daughter of Joseph and Ann (Homsey) Kramer.

Lucy worked at A & P Food Chain and was “Rosie the Riveter” with General Fireproofing during the war. She was a member of the church and was a tremendous baker.

Lucy will always be loved and remembered by her husband of 63 years, Stephen Uhlar, whom she married May 25, 1946; her daughter, Susan Patella of Boardman; a son, Stephen Uhlar Jr. of Youngstown; and two sisters, Nancy Sernulka of Cortland and Judy Pavis of Liberty Township.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Robert D. Patella Jr.; son-in-law Robert D. “Bob” Patella Sr.; five sister, Ann Bistarkey, Elizabeth Sylvester, Helen Hritz, Elsie Antonoff, and Mary Evans; and two brothers, Frank and Joseph Jr. Kramer.

Brodrick Darnell Wright Jr.

YOUNGSTOWN – Brodrick Darnell Wright Jr. was stillborn on June 19.

Brodrick was a son of Brodrick Darnell Wright Sr. and Moneka Gamble

Besides his parents, he is survived by his twin sister, Honey Wright, and siblings Tiera, Gloria, Bobbie Wright and LaDee Gamble, all at home. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Raymond (Carol) Staten and Latraiel Gamble, and his paternal grandparents, Thelma Dover and Henry Cheaves.
