Joseph Balogh, 72

STRUTHERS – Joseph Balogh, 72, died July 5, 2009 at his home after a courageous three year battle with cancer.

Mr. Balogh was born June 21, 1937 in Youngstown, the son of the late Joseph and Vilma Nyiri Balogh.

He was a 1955 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. Mr. Balogh worked as an oiler for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers and the UAW Local 1112. Mr. Balogh was an Army veteran serving in Korea.

An outdoorsman, Mr. Balogh enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He leaves his wife, the former Delores Hatala, whom he married April 4, 1959; his daughter, Joyce (Bob) Czopur of Salem; his son, Joey (Shelly Matijasic) Balogh of Struthers; two grandchildren, Zachary and Morgan Czopur; a sister, Betty Kern of Boardman; and a sister-in-law, Mitzi (Tony) Quattro of Struthers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers and 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Valley for the excellent care given to Mr. Balogh.

Beatrice “Bea” Benson, 86

YOUNGSTOWN – Mrs. Beatrice Benson, affectionately known as “Bea,” 86, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 2, 2009, after a brief illness at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mrs. Benson was born, Aug. 3, 1922 in Duquesne, Pa., a daughter of the late William Wesley Watson and Alberta Brown.

She attended East High School. She was employed with Servi-Clean Industries of Youngstown for 38 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1988.

She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, helping others and talking on the telephone to her loved ones and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy, two sons, Ronald T. Benson, her caregiver, with whom she made her home, Ivan E. (Florence) Benson of Suitland, Md.; a brother, Amos Watson of Cleveland; two sisters, Clara Watson Axel and Vivian Watson, both of Youngstown; 10 grandchildren, including Kimberly A. Benson, also her caregiver, Rhonda L. Benson of Hamden, Conn. and Ronald M. Benson Jr. of Columbus, of whom she helped rear; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Her parents; one sister, Grace Watson Jackson; three brothers, Thomas, William and Thomas Cornelius Watson; and a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Agee Benson preceded her in death.

Friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

John H.O. Bleacher M.D., 76

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, July 10, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman for John H.O. Bleacher M.D., 76, who peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2009, with his loving family by his side at his residence.

John “Jack” was born June 12, 1933 in Philadelphia, the son of the late Ohram and Honora Bleacher.

He attended West Catholic High School graduating in 1951. After receiving a B.A. from La Salle University in 1955, he attended Temple University Medical School, where he earned his Medical Degree in 1959. While serving as Medical Intern at St. Elizabeth Hospital, he met his wife of 49 years, Nicolette.

He returned to Temple University Hospital in 1960 to serve as a General Surgical Resident and then served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force in 1964. In 1967, he finished his Pediatric Surgical Residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

After establishing his practice in 1967, he served the Mahoning Valley as its only Pediatric Surgeon for over 35 years. He became the Youngstown Board of Education’s General Physician. Respected by his peers, he received the “Miracle Maker Award” for outstanding service and dedication to the children of Tod Children’s Hospital. He was also honored by the surgical residents and received the “Resident Teaching Award.” He retired from Forum Health in 2005.

Dr. Bleacher’s interests included fly-fishing, sailing, scuba diving crew (where he served on the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Dive Team) and (where he was an alternate for the 1952 Olympic team), culinary arts, painting, golf and photography.

He is survived by his wife, the former Nicolette Yannarella of Youngstown; his seven children, Dr. John and Angela Bleacher of Atlanta, James Henry of Youngstown, Joseph and Kathryn Bleacher of Southport, England, Katie Bleacher and Dean Everard of New York, Nicolette and Donald Miller of Elwood City, Pa., Jerald and Michelle Bleacher of Columbus and Jeffrey Bleacher of Bel Air, Md.

“The Babbo,” as he was affectionately known by his family also leaves behind his eleven grandchildren, Nina Marie, John Patrick, Cristina Angela, Swan Tara, Jeremiah Joseph, Jasmine, Gabriel James, John David (Jack), Dominic Henry, Jakob Jeffrey Karl and Brooke Nicole.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 9, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

Georgina (Georgia) P. Calcagni, 95

“Together Again”

YOUNGSTOWN – Georgina (Georgia) P. Calcagni, 95, passed away on July 5, at Hospice House in Boardman

Mrs. Calcagni was born in Youngstown, on April 10, 1914, the daughter of Beatangelo and Gesilda (Donofrio) Vitullo.

She attended East High School and was active in church activities for many years. She was featured in the family biography “Rose Street” written by Carmen J. Leone. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church for over 80 years and a member of the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. Georgia was a regular worker on the church’s weekly spaghetti dinner fundraising program and a devotee of patron Saint Theresa, the “Little Flower.”

Before raising her own family, Georgia assisted her sister, Josephine in raising their siblings along with several nieces and nephews. She was a devoted housewife, and mother and was honored as “Women of the Year” at the 13th Annual Greater Youngstown Italian Festival in July of 1998.

Georgia is survived by two son, Raymond (Ruth) and Robert (Gina); a daughter, Darlene (John) Morris; a sister, Jessie DeBacco; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Bedsides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julius (Jay) Calcagni, whom she married on Oct. 9, 1937, who passed away on May 20, 1996; two sisters, Josphine (Carmen) Leone and Lena Vitullo; and three brothers, Amie (Irma), Dom (Ange) and Fred (Helen) Vitullo.

The immediate family would like to thank all family caregivers who took wonderful care of Georgia over the past five years, especially Rita Finelli, Dolores Orlando, Linda Gabrieli, Nancy Norman, Jim McCurdy, Ray Leone, Carmen Leone, Jim Leone, and including the many good people at Liberty Health Care Center.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

John Paul Clemente, 87

NILES – John Paul Clemente, 87, of Bonnie Brae, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

He was born in Niles on June 24, 1922 to Dominic and Julia (Ciminero) Clemente and resided in Niles all his life.

John was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his honorable service. He retired as the maintenance supervisor in 1986, after working 30 years for the Niles City Schools. He was a member of St. Stephen Church, a talented craftsman and enjoyed dancing, gardening and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary L. (Matthews) Clemente, whom he married on June 27, 1942; son, Mark Clemente of Warren; daughter, Cheryl (Jeff) Fleck of Niles; three grandchildren, Christine (Brian) Sharp of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jeff Fleck of Niles and Angela (Doug) Lodwick of Cortland; four great-grandchildren, Chad Rimko, Ron Rimko, Saidrea Crites and Sebastien Lodwick; and a sister, Mary Pela of Phoenix.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dominic Clemente and six sisters, Pauline Matash, Lucille Porter, Rachel Roberts, Josephine D’Oronzo, Jennie Marchese and Concetta Clemente.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 8, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen Church. The Rev. Thomas Kraszewski will be the celebrant.

Burial will be at Pineview Cemetery.

Edward Collins, 55

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home Inc. for Edward Collins, 55, who departed this life Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Valley Renaissance.

Mr. Collins was born May 31, 1954, a son of Edward Sr. and Bessie Tommie Collins.

He was self-employed and worked for the City of Youngstown.

He was a member of the Victory Luthern Church and was a Marine veteran during the Vietnam War.

He leaves his wife, the former Francine J. Finney, whom he married in November of 1984; a son, Brandon “B.J.” Collins; a brother, Wayne Collins, all of Youngstown; two sisters, Timmicko (Brad Sr.) Griffin of Riverdale, Ga. and Doris (Kendall) Leonard of McDonald, Ga.

His parents; a son, Aaron Hill; and a sister, Dorothy Williams, preceded him in death.

The family would like to thank Valley Renaissance and Hospice of the Valley for their excellent care.

Margaret F. Denny, 77

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church, both in Struthers, for Margaret F. Denny, 77, who passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Margaret was born on Nov. 19, 1931 in Youngstown, a daughter of James A. and Sophie M. Juris Denny.

She was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of the Ursuline High School in 1953. She was also a graduate with honors at Youngstown State University with a bachelor of arts degree. She was a student nurse at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing from 1953 to 1957. She was then an RN at the Woodside Recovery Hospital for 31 years.

Margaret was a member of St. Nicholas Church in Struthers and a member and auxiliary member of the Fraternal Order of Eagle’s in Youngstown. She was a member of the Petri Club and was an avid fan of Notre Dame.

Margaret leaves behind two brothers, James C. Denny of Columbia, S.C. and Michael E. Denny of Poland and two nephews, Michael and Jason Denny.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Janice Gettig, 87

MILLERSBURG – Funeral services were held Monday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana for Janice Gettig, 87, of 105 Majora Lane, formerly of Columbiana. Janice died Thursday morning at the Majora Lane Nursing Home.

Mrs. Gettig was born Aug. 16, 1921 in New Castle, Pa., the daughter of the late John H. and Helen Roller Carroll and lived in Millersburg since 1999, coming from Columbiana.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Upper Room Fellowship in Columbiana.

She is survived by a son, Gene Gettig of Rockford, Ill.; a sister, June Daykin of Conneaut; and two grandchildren, Amber and Zack Gettig.

Pastor Chuck Hamilton officiated and burial was at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boardman.

Sophie M. Helon, 83

YOUNGSTOWN - There will be funeral services Thursday, July 9, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home in Struthers and 10 a.m. at St. Matthias Church in Youngstown for Sophie M. Helon, 83, who died Sunday evening, July 5, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

She was born Dec. 29, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, Pa., a daughter of the late Steve and Mary Janecko Bosak.

Sophie was a graduate of Struthers High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Matthias Church, the Sokol Branch No. 156 and the Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by her husband, Peter J. Helon, whom she married Sept. 3, 1949; a daughter, Carol Helon Hammill of Los Angeles; and a son, James Helon of Youngstown.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Stephen and Joseph Bosak.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, where a prayer service will be held at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth J. Johnston, 83

CANFIELD – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel for Ruth J. Johnston, 83, who died early Monday morning at Beeghly Oaks Nursing Center in Boardman.

She was born Jan. 24, 1926 in McGrann, Pa., a daughter of Anton and Margaret (Heilman) Kiene and she came to this area after she was married.

She was a 1943 graduate of Ford City High school. She worked as a secretary for Halsey Taylor Inc. for 20 years. She had also worked for Schenley Distillers and Copperweld Steel.

She had been a former member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Youngstown. She was also a lifelong member of the Howland Garden Club and was a longtime member of the Youngstown and Trumbull County Garden Forums. She also worked as a precinct judge for the Mahoning County election polls in Canfield. She enjoyed square dancing and belonged to several square dancing clubs.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Harry D. Johnston, whom she married June 10, 1950. She also leaves behind a daughter, Laurie (David) Moore of Canfield; two grandchildren; Matthew and Brian Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James, Peter and William Kiene; four sisters; Janet Faykosh, Henrietta Coulter, Kathleen Coffman and Patricia Wingard; and two granddaughters, Amanda and Emily Moore.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Robert K. Reed, 78

BOARDMAN – Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Davis Funeral Home for Robert K. Reed, 78, who passed Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Mr. Reed was born Aug. 9, 1930 in Troy, W.Va. a son of Melvin and Mildred Mae Bailey Reed. He came to this area as a young adult.

He is a retired truck driver, where he worked for International Trucking among others. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 93.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Annabelle Mengor.

He is survived by his daughter, Jean Buchanan (Iverson Perry) of Boardman; a son, Robert (Goldie) Reed of Youngstown; stepdaughters, Diane Mengor of Canada, Patricia (Phillip) Stuckey of Youngstown and Darla Figueroa of Youngstown; stepson, Frank (Dee) Mengor of Boardman; a brother, Edwin Reed of Salem; a sister, Beverly (Charles) Morrow of Columbiana; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn M. Reed; and a sister, Toni Wassum.

Mary R. Sandor, 93

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Szabo & Sons Funeral Home for Mary R. Sandor, 93, formerly of Crum Road, who passed away Monday morning at Omni Manor Nursing Home.

Mary was born on Nov. 24, 1915 in Niles, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Varga Koval.

She worked for Packard Electric in Warren from 1936 to 1942. She came to the Youngstown area in 1942 and married Louis Sandor on Feb. 7, 1942, and he passed away Aug. 5, 1984.

Mary was a member of the Our Lady of Hungary Church and was an avid bingo player and loved to cook.

She is survived by her sister, Helen Molnar of Youngstown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; a brother, Mike Koval; and a sister, Kathryn Bornemisza.

Friends may call Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Four Mile Run Road Cemetery.


Carl Santucci, 87

BOARDMAN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Church with the Rev. Joseph Fata, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, for Carl Santucci, 87, who peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Carl will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends, who were his greatest blessing.

He was born Oct. 4, 1921 in Bagnoli del Trigno, Isernia, Italy and moved to Smokey Hollow in Youngstown on July 3, 1928. Carl was the son of Andrew and Josephine (Gabriel) Santucci.

Carl retired after 30 years as an auto mechanic and owner of Santucci Southway Service. Upon his retirement, he continued as an auto mechanic for WKBN Broadcasting Company and Southern Park Limousine Service (Sutton Travel Agency). He was also an auto mechanic teacher at Choffin Career Center and at Lordstown Vocational School.

Carl received the Master Automotive Technician Award from SOHIO, Automotive Service Council, Inc., and the National Institute for Automotive Excellence.

He was a member of St. Luke Church, the Men’s Bagnolese Club, and the Garage Owners Association. He truly enjoyed antique cars.

Carl was a 1940 graduate of The Rayen School and a United States Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the Third Army as a mechanic.

He leaves behind his loving and dedicated wife of over 67 years, the former Anna Rossi, whom he married Jan. 24, 1942 at the All Saints Church in Detroit; a sister, Ida (Ben) Rossi of Boardman; a nephew, Dennis (Cindy) Rossi of San Diego; a niece that he thought of as his daughter, Carol (Richard) Craven of Boardman; a grand niece, Kristyn (John) Singleton of Canfield; two grand nephews, Richard (Amanda) Craven of Columbus and Shawn Rossi of San Diego; two great-grand nephews, David and Matthew Singleton; and a great-grand niece, Hailey Singleton, who will be born in October.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Pietro and Vincenza Rossi.

Adele Stocker, 70

NEW CASTLE, PA. – Adele Stocker, 70, passed away at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on the evening of July 4.

She was born in Pressburg, Chekoslovakia on April 3, 1939, the daughter of the late Franz and Adele (Holzen) Angelmier.

She married her husband, Friedrich Stocker in Munich, Germany on May 8, 1959. They came to the United States in 1960, and she became a U.S. citizen on Sept. 3, 1964.

Adele worked for Bashlim Industries in Grove City, Pa., then for Airway Luggage in West Pittsburgh, Pa., and lastly at Wal-Mart in New Castle, Pa.

Adele was Catholic and a member of the Christ the King Parish.

She is survived by her children, Melissa D. Wagner and Larry of Bessemer, Pa., Friedrich Stocker and Patty of Youngstown and Arthur R. Stocker and Beckey of Youngstown; brothers, Franz Holzen of Germany and Adolf Holzen of Australia; eight grandchildren, Friedrich Stocker IV, Adam R.Stocker, Heather E.Stocker, Zachary L. Wagner, Emely Ann Woodall, Lindsey Rose Stocker, Nicholas R.Stocker and Madison A. Stocker; and one great-granddaughter, Cheyanne Rose Golembesky.

Adele was preceeded in death by her parents; one sister; and twin brothers in Chekoslovakia.

Calling hours for Adele are from 5 to 8 p.m. today, July 7, at the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St., Bessemer, PA 16112.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday,.July 8, at 10:30 a.m. at St.Anthony Church in Bessemer with Fr. Downs officiating.

Adele will be laid to rest at the Castleview Memorial Gardens.


Nancy Whitney, 56

LAKE MILTON – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church for Nancy Whitney, 56, who passed away Sunday evening at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in the Emergency Room.

Nancy was born Sept. 21, 1952 in Warren, the daughter of Charles W. and Mary R. (Little) Whitney.

She was a homemaker and loving mother. Nancy was a graduate of Jackson Milton High School and also graduated with a degree in computers from ITT. She was a member of the church and a member of several dart leagues in the area. She was an avid Steelers fan and her hobbies included, gardening, fishing and woodcarving. Nancy loved the time she spent with her family and babysitting her many nieces and nephews.

She leaves her daughter, Mary of Lake Milton; two brothers, Chuck (Linda) Whitney and John (Deborah) Whitney, both of Ravenna; one sister, Beverly (Eddie) Peters of Lake Milton; several nieces and nephews; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her uncle and aunt, Leslie and Wilma Collins; and her grandma, Mae Stevens.

Mary Louise Wilson, 95

TULLAHOMA, TENN. – Mary Louise Wilson, 95, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Lynchburg Nursing Home in Lynchburg, Tenn.

A native of Youngstown, she was the daughter of the late Ellsworth Raymond Booth and Louise Kreuzwieser Booth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Wilson; her brother, Philip E. Booth; and sister-in-law, Elva H. Booth.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Louise (Marvin) Treuhaft of Tullahoma; a son, James Ellsworth (Susan) Wilson of San Macros, Texas; a niece, Deborah (Scott) Mullarkey of Reynoldsburg; five grandchildren, Lori Lewis of Estill Springs, Tenn., Raymond (Estrellita) Treuhaft of Tullahoma, Peni (Roger) Barnes of Estes Park, Colo., Stephanie (Lanny) Leroy of Rushville, Mo. and Timothy Wilson of Clarksville, Ark.; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown on July 6, 2009.

William E. Wolf Sr., 90

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church for William E. Wolf Sr., 90, who passed on to eternal peace on July 3, 2009 at his home with loved ones surrounding his bedside.

Bill was born Oct. 20, 1918 in Damascus, Ga., the son of Charles and Jannie Douglas Wolf.

He was a graduate of East High School and went on to pursue his education at Youngstown State University, graduating in 1949 with a bachelor of science degree in Art Education. He did his student teaching at his alma mater and later pursued a career at the Youngstown Main Post Office, and retired after 30 years of service in 1978. Bill represented the Youngstown Postal Service and worked as a liaison, representing the workers as an Equal Opportunity Facilitator.

William loved life and enjoyed artwork and at one time pursued his artistic genius by working as an understudy in the Traylor/Wolf Art Studio in the 1950s.

Still pursing his love of art, painting, mosaic tile and carpentry work, he still managed to work two jobs and provide his family with all the necessary provisions, above and beyond the call of fatherhood and husbandry. A legend in his own light, he counseled many people, did some teaching seminars at home and some speaking engagements at various organizations and spread good news whenever he got an opportunity to do so.

William loved life, the Word, people and teaching. He touched many lives and kept himself unspotted from the ways of the world.

His wife, the former Christine McElroy, whom he married on Sept. 2, 1939, passed away in Oct. of 2000, she was truly the love of his life.

He was a devoted husband, father and neighbor.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Dorothy V. Anderson, Nelson D., Herman J. and Dian C. King, with whom he made his home, all of Youngstown; Dennis L. of New York, David C. (Delores) of Rocky River, Gregory M. of New York and Eva/Asha (Toni/Abasi) Hill of Atlanta; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Christine; a son, William E. Wolf Jr., who passed away in 1996; and nine brothers and sisters. He was the last living member of his family.

The Wolf family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Marjorie E. Yost, 88

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Shiloh Full Gospel Church, 1310 Shannon Road in Girard for Marjorie E. Yost, 88, who died early Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

She was born July 29, 1920 in Youngstown, a daughter of John T. and Pearl (Parker) Evans, and she resided in this area all of her life.

She was a 1938 graduate of Youngstown South High School. She worked as a coiler for GE, formerly Mazda Lamp Works for six years, and she also worked as a secretary for the TB and Health Center in Youngstown.

She was a longtime member of the church, where she was a past secretary and Sunday school teacher. She was a founder and past president of the Optimisses Club, and she enjoyed roller skating.

Marjorie was a kind and loving lady and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Earl W. Yost, whom she married July 7, 1942. She also leaves behind a son, Lt. Col. Dennis E. (Donna) Yost (Ret.) of Parker, Colo.; four grandchildren, Derek, Evan, Brian and Erin; two great-grandchildren, Christian and Kendra; and two sisters, Pearl Evans of Youngstown and June (Jim) Jones of Rogers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Byron, Jonathan and Kenneth Evans; and a sister, Ruth Randolph.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Shiloh Full Gospel Church Community Center Fund in Marjorie’s memory.
