Sally A. Cook, 69
AUSTINTOWN Sally A. Cook, 69, formerly of North Hartford Avenue in Youngstown, passed away Tuesday morning, July 14, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland Township following a courageous battle with cancer.
Sally was born Dec. 23, 1939 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Guidos Smith, and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Cook was a 1957 graduate of Chaney High School, was a homemaker, and worked at Gaetanos Pizza, Kaufmanns Distribution Center, and Wendys.
Sally enjoyed trips with her husband to Las Vegas and to Mountaineer Park, and she especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Her husband, Calvin E. Cook, whom she married Oct. 1, 1960, passed away Feb. 14, 2006.
Mrs. Cook leaves two sons, Michael (Kathy) Cook of Austintown and Mark (Rose) Cook of Stow; a daughter, Jackie (Ken) Askey of Austintown; eight grandchildren, Mark, Francesca, Vincent and Lucia Cook, Alyssa and Julie Larkin and Elizabeth and Jessica Askey; a sister, Geraldine (Lee) Houser of Youngstown; and her very close friend, Peggy Carson.
Sally will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shane Thomas Detwiler, 31
BAYTOWN, TEXAS Chambers County Deputy Sheriff and outstanding husband and father, Shane Thomas Detwiler, 31, was born July 31, 1977 in Salem, and was killed in the line of duty Monday, July 13, 2009, while serving the citizens of Chambers County.
He was a State of Texas Game Warden for six years before joining the Chambers County Sheriffs Department. He was a 1995 graduate of Cy-Fair High School and graduated Suma Cum Laude from Sam Houston State University. He was awarded a Bronze Star, while serving in the U.S. Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was a member of the Eagle Heights Fellowship Church.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Trish Detwiler; two sons, Audie Michael Detwiler and Aiden Glynn Detwiler; a daughter, Abigail Paige Detwiler, all of Baytown; mother and stepfather, Cheryl and Mike Railsback of Huffman, Texas; father and stepmother, Thomas and Nina Detwiler of Youngstown; sister and brother-in-law, Brandi and Jimmy McKnight of Spring, Texas; and grandmothers, Victoria Detwiler of Columbiana and Marjorie Daugherty of Salem.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Eagle Heights Fellowship Church, 14120 Hwy. 146, Dayton, TX 77535.

BOARDMAN Sophie Gavozzi, 76, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
She was born June 16, 1933 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Andrew Bush and the late Anna (Benya) Bush.
The wife of James Gavozzi, whom she married May 27, 1958.
She is survived by her husband, James Gavozzi of Boardman; a son, John Gavozzi of Cincinnati; a granddaughter, Angela Gavozzi, whom she reared; and five sisters, Margaret Franklin and Maryann Higgins, both of Girard, Irene Hornyak of Austintown, Elenor Premec of Poland and Kathy Coppola of Struthers.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, James Gavozzi Jr.
She was a 1951 graduate of East High School and received a scholarship to Capital University.
She was a member of Saint Charles Church and was employed at Travelers Insurance Co., Standard Slag and Sherwin Williams. She was a avid gardener and bowler.
Calling hours will be at the Fabrizio Funeral Home, 619 East Indianola Ave. in Youngstown today, July 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Her services will be at Saint Charles Church at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2009.

Evelyn Green, 84
YOUNGSTOWN Evelyn Green, 84, passed away Monday at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mrs. Green was born Sept. 22, 1924 in New Orleans, the daughter of Clinton and Tessie Hicks Cross, moving to the area in 1967 from New Castle, Pa.
She was employed for 21 years at Shenango China as a Gold Room Decorator.
Mrs. Green was a member of Evergreen Garden Club, Buckeye Elks and a former member of the Third Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, George Green Sr., whom she married July 24, 1967; two daughters, Mrs. Emma Jean Mitchell of Mt. Clemons, Mich. and Mrs. Margie Wallace of New Castle; one stepson, George Green Jr.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary Williams; one brother, Willie White; and one sister, Luverne Purdue.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 17, 2009, at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home at 11 a.m., with calling hours one hour prior, from 10 to 11 a.m.
Clyde W. Householder, 72
POLAND Clyde W. Householder, 72, died July 13, 2009 at Hospice House.
Mr. Householder was born Sept. 27, 1936 in Youngstown, a son of Clyde and Florence Musser Householder.
He was a 1954 graduate of Boardman High School.
Mr. Householder worked as an electrician for 30 years for the Local Union No. 64 IBEW of which he was a member for 50 years. He was also a member of the Canfield AARP 3104.
After retirement, he and his wife moved to Oak Hill, Fla. for 15 years until her passing in 2005.
Mr. Householder was a fantastic chef and baker. An avid fisherman, he loved taking his boats out on the water and fishing. He also had compassion for animals and leaves behind his dog and companion, Daisy Mae.
His wife, the former Joan I. Gempler, whom he married Aug. 14, 1954, died Sept. 21, 2005.
He leaves two sons, Jeffrey (Jean) Householder of Edgewater, Fla. and Brian Householder of Daytona Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, Kent, Katie and Laura Householder; and one great-grandchild, Lillian Robertson.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Lance Householder; and his brother, Edward Householder.
There will be no calling hours or services.
Interment will be at Lake Park Cemetery.

Betty Jane Jones, 83
AUSTINTOWN - Services will be Friday morning at 10 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery Chapel in Vienna Township for Betty Jane Jones, 83, formerly of Warren, who passed away Monday evening at Hospice House.
Betty was born Feb. 12, 1926 in Warren, the daughter of Francis and Jessie Rowan Jones.
After graduating from Warren G. Harding High School, she had worked as an operator at United Telephone of Warren for almost 40 years before retiring.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, Alex Shaffo, with whom she made her home in Austintown and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, James McManus, who raised her; two sisters, Ann Shaffo and Mazie Carey; and two brothers, Robert and Francis Jones.
Friends may call Friday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the Crown Hill Cemetery Chapel.

George Epps Jones
YOUNGSTOWN Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home for George Epps Jones.
George was born in Atlanta on Sept. 13, 1940, the fourth of seven children. George, also known as Spider, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Health Center, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He began his education at Hayes Jr. High and The Rayen School. He continued his education at the New Castle School of Trades after serving in the U.S. Army with Company A 2nd Battalion Airborne 506 Infantry, where he received many awards and commendations being honorable discharged May of 1968.
George worked 27 years as an assembler at General Motors Lordstown plant, retiring in 1992. He was instrumental in starting the Credit Union One and serving as its president and board member for many yeas.
Along with his wife, they owned and operated Kiddie Korner Child Care since 1985. He was a County Certified Child Care Provider since retiring from GM. He was a member of the Professional Family Day Care Providers Association of Mahoning Valley, Inc., Ohio Connection State Family Child Care Association and the National Association for Family Child Care, Tru-Mah-Col Association for the Education of Young Children, Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children and National Association for the Education of Young Children, also a member of UAW Local 1112 and AFSCME/Child Care Providers Together. He was a proud member for over 30 years and Past Master of Rising Sun Lodge No. 90, P.H.F.&A.M. Youngstown, Chapter 39 Royal Arch Masons, Bezaleel Consistory No. 15 the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Cleveland, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. George was also a Past Illustrious Potentate of Al Kaf Temple No. 109 in Akron.
George loved to travel and meet new people and in all of his worldwide travels he never met a stranger.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Devlynn A. Harris, whom he married Aug. 16, 1988; children, Anthony L. (Dena) Jones, Sherise Hamlet, both of Atlanta, Raymond Edwards and Shanna L. Miles of Youngstown; grandchildren, four of whom he raised, Marcel M. Terry, Shondre S. Terry, Marshayla Terry and Shontre S.M. Terry of Chicago; three brothers, Robert Jones III, Charles (Mae) Jones and Larry Jones; two sisters, Carolyn A. (Jessie) Harris, Arlena (Rev. Nathaniel) Lofton; a host of in-laws; nieces and nephews; many other friends, relatives; and devoted friends, Theodore and Jackie Patton, Willis Southerland, Andrew Huff, Barbara J. Owens and Delores (Lois) Johnson; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Eunice Jones; a brother, William (Pep) Jones; a beloved sister-in-law, Bertha Jones; stepson, Stephon Andre Harris; a granddaughter, Tiffany Lawson; and a grandson, Timothy Lawson.

Eleanor Helen Kaperak, 73
CAROLINA SHORES, N.C. Eleanor Helen Kaperak, 73, of Calabash Drive, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Medical University of South Carolina.
She was born on May 7, 1936 in Struthers. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Dluhos Komara.
Mrs. Kaperak was a former member of the Cooks Club at Carolina Shores.
Surviving is her husband, Stephen F. Kaperak, at home; three daughters, Deborah Cunningham and husband, Robert of Cincinnati, Lenore Horwatt and husband, Edward of Mentor and Christine Hradisky and husband, Ron of Columbus; and four grandchildren, Michael, Sean, Adam and Kendall.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 9 a.m. at St. Brendans the Navigator Catholic Church in Shallotte, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Robert Lyle Copie Killing Jr., 52
YOUNGSTOWN Robert Lyle Copie Killing Jr., 52, was suddenly taken tragically from his beloved family on Saturday, July 11, 2009, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Aug. 19, 1956 in Bloomsburg, Pa., the son of the late Robert and Martha Fulkerson Killing Sr.
Robert was a graduate of Jackson Milton High School and was currently employed at Youngstown Auto Wrecking Yard as a yard worker. Mr. Killing worked formerly as a truck driver for Anchor Motor Freight and also was a former excavator for Meander Excavating.
He enjoyed the outdoors, loved farming, gardening and animals.
A loving father and grandfather, Robert was the type of person, just knowing him was a privilege. He had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Patricia Courtney; one daughter, Christina Killing Wells of Garfield Heights; a son, Scott Killing of Greenville, S.C.; two grandchildren, Julian and Bailey Wells; two sisters, Rhea Maher of Austintown and Debbie Killing of Dubois, Pa.; and two brothers, Richard Killing of Vienna and Ralph Killing of Niles.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donnie Killing.
Memorial services will be held at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 4 p.m., where family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m.

Emily H. Koniowsky, 82
MCDONALD Emily H. Koniowsky, 82, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009, at Hospice House.
Emily was born Jan. 4, 1927 to the late Thomas and Emma Laing Henderson in Girard.
She worked for the J.C. Penny Co. in the Liberty Plaza in the late 70s.
She attended the Woodland Park United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Girard Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her children, Joseph M. (Jan) Koniowsky of Forest, Va., Joyce M. Goetz of Davie, Fla. and Brian S. (Deby) Koniowsky of McDonald; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Koniowsky, whom she married Oct. 5, 1946, and he died Nov. 20, 1988; her sister; Ann Grosbeck; and two brothers, Alex and Thomas Henderson.
Services will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment will be at Girard City Cemetery.
Angeline M. Lalama-Juliano, 91
NEW CASTLE, PA. Angeline M. Lalama-Juliano, 91, of Jameson Care Center, passed away the morning of July 14, at Jameson Care Center.
Angeline was born in Camel on Oct. 14, 1917, the daughter of the late Bernard and Marie Leporis.
Angeline married Guy Lalama in 1937, and he preceded her in death in 1985. She then married Frank Juliano in 1993, he also preceded her in death in 2007.
She was a graduate of Youngstown State University.
Angeline retired from St. Dominic Elementary School in Youngstown, where she worked as a teacher for many years.
She was a member of St. Dominic Parish in Youngstown. Angeline was also a member of the Angels of Easter Seals, the Wolves Club Auxiliary and the Latin Culture Club, all of Youngstown.
Survivors include one son, Carl Lalama and wife Eileen of Canton, Ga.; one daughter, Loretta and husband Carmen Lamancusa of New Castle; one sister, Rose Kalish of Exeter, N.H.; five grandchildren, Frank Lamancusa, Laurel Lamancusa-Logsdon, Lisa Lalama-Bosley, Kristen Lalama-Spradlin and Joshua Lamancusa; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Angeline was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Leporis and Floyd Leporis; and one sister, Ann Handler.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road in New Castle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dominic Parish, 77 E. Lucius Ave. in Youngstown on Friday at 10:30 a.m.

AUSTINTOWN Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the New Hope Community Church, 493 Bev Road in Boardman for Hope M. Miller, 33, who died early Sunday morning at her residence.
She was born June 2, 1976 in Salem, the daughter of Harold W. and Robin L. (Merritt) Miller, and she resided in this area all of her life.
She was a 1994 graduate of Beaver Local High School and she achieved an Associate Degree in Medical Assisting from ETI Technical College.
She worked for Walgreens in Austintown as the head photo specialist for 11 years.
She was a member of the church and was very active with the teen ministry and she was a Sunday school teacher. She also enjoyed photography. Her greatest love though was her family and friends.
She is survived by her parents of Wellsville; her grandmothers, Mary B. Merritt of Calcutta and Ruth E. Miller of Wellsville; several aunts and uncles and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Alaska W. Merritt and John R. Miller.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the New Hope Community Church.

HUBBARD Irene E. Pflug, 89, died Monday, July 13, 2009, at Liberty Health Care Center.
She was born Jan. 26, 1920 in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Theresa Dobrandt Fenisey and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Pflug, a homemaker, enjoyed being outside, flowers and loved chocolate.
Her first husband, Harry Trehan, died in January of 1967, her second husband, Milton Pflug Sr., died in October of 1996.
She leaves a son, Dave (Mary Lou) Trehan of Hubbard; a daughter, Pamela (Nick) Vecchio of Georgia; two stepsons, Milton Buddy Pflug of Boardman and Lynn Pflug of Columbiana; two brothers, Paul Fenisey of Austintown and Richard Fenisey of Florida; a sister, Barb (Jim) Larson of Austintown; grandchildren, Scott Trehan of Hudson, Blaire Brown and Megan (Chris) Seeley of Canton, Kelli Ferrett-Lynn of Columbus and Brian Ferrett of Hubbard; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Shirley Ferrett; and a sister, Margaret Summers.

CANFIELD There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, at Saint Michael Church, celebrated by Father Terrence Hazel for Beatrice L. Bea Rousher, 82, who passed away Wednesday, July 8, at Saint Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Mrs. Rousher was born Jan. 31, 1927 in Youngstown, the daughter of Joseph James and Edna McGowan Loftus and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1945 graduate of Ursuline High School.
Bea had worked as a secretary for Saint Rose Church, Saint Patrick Church, the Immaculate Conception Church and Ursuline High School, retiring in 1982.
She was member of Saint Michael Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Bea was also a member of the 1945 Ursuline High School Alumni Group, Saint Dominic Alumni Group and the Fair Park Card Club and Bugnarese Ladies Club. She was a former member of the Bears Club, Sebring Country Club, Tippecanoe Country Club and Fonderlac Country Club.
Besides her husband, James B. Rousher, whom she married Aug. 25, 1956, she leaves one son, James P. (Debbie) Rousher of Canfield; two daughters, Mary Pat (Dominic) Salomone of Medina and Diane M. Nardy of Columbus; six grandchildren, JJ Rousher, Nicholas Rousher and Jimmy Rousher, all of Canfield, Emily Salomone of Chicago, Anthony Salomone of Medina and Margaret Nardy of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis Loftus, Robert Loftus and Patrick Loftus.

STRUTHERS There will be funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday, July 17, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church for Anne M. Van Oudenhove, 87, who passed away Monday night, July 13.
Anne was born Dec. 22, 1921 in Bell Town, Pa., the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Gentile) Quattro.
She was a hair stylist and mostly a great homemaker. Anne was a member of the church, its Altar and Rosary Society and St. Anthonys Auxiliary Society of Struthers. Anne was an avid bowler at Holiday Bowl in Struthers.
Her husband, Joseph, whom she married Dec. 29, 1945, died July 13, 1992.
Anne will always be remembered by her two sons, Joseph P. (Florence) and John O., both of Struthers; three daughters, Sandra (Michael) Coates of Poland, Diane (Donald) Bucci and Marilyn Susany of Columbiana; a brother, Anthony (Mary) Quattro; sisters, Jenny Domico and Josephine Kostelnak, both of Struthers; Julie (James) Visingardi of Poland and Helen Morocco of Las Vegas; a sister-in-law, Carmel Quattro of Struthers; eight grandchildren, Michael Coates, Joseph the III, Frank and John Van Oudenhove, Peter Raptis, Donald Bucci, Jonathan Bucci and Annie Booth; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Marie and Anthony Raptis and Aiden Booth.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Quattro; and two sisters, Lucy Damico and Laura George.
