Rev. Donald R. Brown
YOUNGSTOWN A funeral service celebrating the life of Rev. Donald R. Brown will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Mr. Brown was born Nov. 26, 1937 in Campbell, a son of Rodney and Emma Moore Brown.
He was a graduate of Campbell High School and worked as an engineer with Republic Steel, retiring in 1995. Mr. Brown was a longtime member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church, where he was ordained in 1989 by the Rev. W.L. Harris and a former associate minister of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was the former pastor of the Second Christian Church in Warren. He was a 33rd degree Master Mason, Nora Lodge.
On July 18, 2009, our heavenly Father cast his eternal light onto Forum Health Northside Medical Center and beckoned him home.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Carrie Rupert, whom he married Feb. 14, 1974; a son, Donnie Brown of California; three stepsons, Jack, Earl and Scott Jordan, all of Youngstown; a daughter, Lynn Veal; two stepdaughters, Shirley Jordan and Crystal Wylie, both of Youngstown; three brothers, Carl Hawkins Jr. and Rodney Brown, both of California and Rev. Leslie Hawkins of Youngstown; four sisters, Elaine North of Columbus, Harriet Blair and Cathy Hobb, both of Youngstown and Sarah Bradley of Texas; an aunt, Annie June of Youngstown; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
He was greeted in heaven by his parents; a daughter, Lisa Brown; and two brothers including his twin, Ronald Brown and James Hawkins.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Washington Funeral Home, where memorial rites will be performed at 7 p.m. by the Masons.
Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery.

William I. Bill Cleary, 75
YOUNGSTOWN William I. Bill Cleary, 75, passed away Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born July 16, 1934 in Youngstown, a son of William Peggy and Janet (Ripley) Cleary. He was a lifelong area resident.
Bill attended St. Dominics Grade School, was a 1952 graduate of Ursuline High School and a graduate of Youngstown State University, where he was affiliated with Sigma Phi Epsilon National Fraternity.
Bill retired from Republic/LTV Steel Company as a supervisor in quality control and was an active member in The American Society of Nondestructive Testing. Bill was involved in the Mahoning Valley Gaelic Society, where he was a trustee and past financial secretary. He was elected Gael of the Year in 1979.
Bill was a 4th Degree member and past financial secretary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, John Nalley, Division No. 6. He was a 3rd Degree member and past financial secretary of the Youngstown Knights of Columbus Council No. 274 and was a 4th Degree member of the Bishop Malone K of C Assembly No. 826 in Youngstown.
He was past vice president of the Mahoning Valley Management Association, volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul luncheon kitchen, on the board of directors of Republic Steel Federal Credit Union, 1st past vice president of the Youngstown Coin Club and numerous other numismatics organizations.
Bill was past chairman of the St. Patricks Day Post Parade, he received the Bill Ockerman Award in 2001, was the 2002 Parade Grand Marshal and was the financial treasurer of the St. Patricks Day Parade. He was named Irishman of the Year in 2005. He was chosen because he represents the best of the Irish.
He was a volunteer at Youngstown State University with numerous sports programs and was actively involved for many years with his granddaughters swim team F.A.S.T. in Columbiana, where he was better known as Grandpa Bill.
He enjoyed golfing, numismatics, NASCAR racing and spoiling his grandchildren.
He attended St. Dominics Church and St. Teresa Carmelite Monastery.
Bill will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Beverly Stephens; four daughters, Margie Cleary of Boardman, Karen Hicks of Boardman, Kathy Salser of Poland and Paula (Joe) Slavic of Struthers; and four grandchildren, Jeffrey Chrystal, Michael Salser, Courtney Salser and Ryan Slavic; one sister, Mary Virginia (Don) Baynes of Las Vegas; two brothers, John (Fran) Cleary of Cleveland and James (Marion) Cleary of Canfield; as well as 14 nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Dominics Church.

Geraldine K. Judy Daly, 85
YOUNGSTOWN There will be a memorial service Monday, July 27, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward Church for Geraldine K. Judy Daly, 85, who passed away July 10, 2009 at Park Vista Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 14, 1923 in Girard, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Lucille Hannan Steffee.
She was a member of St. Edward Church.
Geraldine was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo, cards and visiting the casinos.
She is survived by a son, Thomas A. Daly and his fiancee, Virginia McElfresh of Wheeling, W.Va.; two sisters, Jeanne (Steffee) Salvatore of Youngstown and Louella Rankin Chimileski of Floran Park, N.J.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Lena Rankin Skufka, Alma Rankin Corley, Thelma Rankin Deaton and Hazel Steffee Coates; three brothers, Harold Rankin, Russell Rankin and Jack Steffee; and two half-brothers, Earl and Andrew Steffee.

Marc Anthony Ellington Sr., 46
BOARDMAN Marc Anthony Ellington Sr., 46, of 4813 Erie St., departed this life Sunday, July 19, 2009, at 7:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
He was born Dec. 3, 1962 in Youngstown, the son of Jack L. and Shirley Ann Clark Ellington, living in Akron for six years, returning to the area in 2003.
Mr. Ellington was employed with Infocision Management Time Warner as an accounts receivable representative.
He attended Jesus Is The Way and was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity. Marc was a talented artist and an avid Cleveland Cavaliers and Browns fan. He was a 1980 graduate of South High School and graduated from Youngstown Business College in Business Administration.
Mr. Ellington served for four years in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class working as a radar controller.
He married Jacqueline Marie Autrey Ellington on Oct. 26, 1991.
Besides his wife of Boardman, he leaves to mourn four sons, Marc A. Ellington Jr., Marc A. Ellington II, Justin Clark Ellington and Kevin Michaels, all of Youngstown; three daughters, Marquia Dominique Ellington of Atlanta, LaTasha Marie Ellington and Chelsea Renee Ellington both of Youngstown; one stepdaughter, Ashley Henry of Akron; parents, Jack and Shirley Clark Ellington of Youngstown; one sister, Kim (Ulysses) Gordon of Boardman; nine grandchildren; two nieces, Brittney Nicole Gordon and Kennedi Elyse Gordon, both of Boardman; five nephews and host of relatives and friends.
Family will receive friends at 220 Wychwood Lane, the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ellington.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, William and Beatrice Clark and one aunt, Betty Doll Clark Willis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 25, 2009, at noon at Jesus Is The Way.
Calling hours will be one hour prior to the services (11 a.m. to noon).

SALEM Mildred G. Less, 92, of 39721 SR 14A, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Salem.
Mrs. Less was born Oct. 27, 1916 in East Lewistown, a daughter of Harvey M. and Francis H. West Blair and had lived in the area all her life.
Mildred was co-owner with her husband, Joseph, of Less Farms & Market.
She was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, Leetonia and LCBA.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Charles) Kehres of Beachwood and Bonnie (Dwight) Smith of Sarona, Wis.; six sons, Vice Admiral Anthony A. (Leanne) Less of Clifton, Va., Frederick E. Less of Salem, Joseph R. (Marianne) Less of Columbiana, James M. Less of Salem, Gerald A. (Suzi) Less of Leetonia and Richard M. (Jackie) Less of Rockford, Mich.; 28 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death on Oct. 13, 1992 by her husband, Joseph A. Less, whom she married Oct. 27, 1936; a daughter, Patricia (James) Driscoll; and a brother, Albert P. Bair.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Patricks Catholic Church with the Father Thomas Eisweirth officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

VIENNA Elizabeth A. Liz Mackey, 74, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Liberty Health Care Center with her family by her side.
Liz was born Jan. 28, 1935 in Campbell, the daughter of the late John W. and Anna R. (Kovach) Snitzer Sr., and was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.
Liz worked for Woolworth Department Store in the Eastwood Mall in Niles for 20 years.
A member of the Vienna United Methodist Church in Vienna, Liz was a member of several organizations at the church. She enjoyed playing cards and board games, had a talent for doing cross stitch and enjoyed bird watching.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she will be deeply missed by her husband, Keith Tod Mackey, whom she married on May 25, 1957; four children, Brian (Ginni) Mackey of Boardman, LuAnn (Robert) White of Vienna, Tod (Dianne) Mackey of Vienna and Lori (Russel) French of Brookfield; a sister, Anna Mae (Donald) Barnett of Clovis, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Rose M. Snitzer of Campbell, Martha Snitzer of Canfield and Donna (Bill) Allshouse of Sunnyvalle, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Ward Mackey of Vienna; 12 grandchildren, Dana (Kelly) Patton, Lauren (Matt) Dineen, Scott Mackey, Jenna Mackey, Jasen White, Terry White, Justin Mackey, Stephen Mackey, Jordan Mackey, Zachary French, Perry French and Jacob French; numerous nieces and nephews; and by a host of friends.

Burial will follow at Vienna Township Cemetery.

YOUNGSTOWN Alma Colleen Mauk, 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning.
Alma was born Sept. 13, 1928 in Olive Hill, Ky., a daughter of George and Lillie Sparks Dean. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be sadly missed.
Alma is survived by five children, Leland Mauk of Youngstown, Judy Bodnar of Altamonte Springs, Fla. Jacqueline Mauk of Winter Springs, Fla., Alice Boyhan of Miami, Fla. and Connie Boyhan of Commerce, Ga.; grandchildren, Donald and William Lucarell, Patricia Wagner, Leland Scali, Sheri Mauk, Amanda Bodnar, Liz Masotti, Kristen Spano and Benjamin, Michael and Lara Boyhan; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Donnie and Courtney Lucarell, Alexandria Mauk and Dexter Scali.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sylvia Scali, who passed away in 2005.
Private funeral services will be held in Olive Hill, Ky.

YOUNGSTOWN Funeral services will be at noon on Friday at the Ebenezer Life Center Church of God in Christ for Judith L. Tiki Patmon, 52, who departed this life Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Ms. Patmon was born Nov. 11, 1956 in Youngstown, a daughter of Wallace R. Sr. and Julia M. Wells Patmon.
She was a tax commissioner agent for the Ohio Department of Taxation.
She was a member of the church, its praise and worship choir and bible study group.
She worked for Strouss Department Store, Bank One, and was a supervisor at Exterra.
Ms. Patmon graduated as an evangelist at the Christian Ministry of Theology with honors at the church, East High School and Youngstown State University with a bachelors degree in business administration.
She was a former member of the Third Baptist Church.
She leaves her mother, with whom she made her home; a sister, whom she loved dearly, Marguerite A. Teague of Batavia, Ill.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents, Curtis and Willa Mae Wells and Bennie and Gussie Patmon; and three brothers, Wallace Jr., Curtis A. and Benjamin (Bennie) Patmon.
Viewing will be today from noon to 4 p.m. at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home.

NILES Rosene L. Rupert, 82, formerly of Oakwood Avenue, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at 1:10 p.m. at Briarfield of the Ridge.
Mrs. Rupert was born March 22, 1927 in Beach Bottom, W.Va., a daughter of Claire and Ethel Ivory Beighly.
A homemaker, she was of Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Louise Byerly; a son, Leroy Glenn Ambrose; and her husbands, Leroy Ambrose and Everette Ford.
She is survived by her daughter, Ida R. McAndrew and her husband, William of Austintown; her son, Mark D. Ambrose and his wife, Cindy of Niles; two sisters, Mary Kay Sands and Louise Morehead, both of Archer City, Texas; four grandchildren, Tonya, Donna, Jennie and Jesse; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda.

Lillie Mae Williams, 92
YOUNGSTOWN Services will be Friday, July 24, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church for Mrs. Lillie Mae Williams, 92, who departed this life Friday, July 17, 2009, at Campus Health Care Center.
Mrs. Williams was born April 30, 1917 in Wheeler County, Ga., a daughter of Wiley and Annie Troop Hall.
She had taught at Horn Mission School in Georgia, was a former domestic technician. She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, where she was a church mother, former member of the Oak Baptist Church, where she served as deaconess, treasurer, church mother and was a missionary. A homemaker, she was known for her cooking, especially her fried chicken and sweet potato pies.
She leaves to cherish her beloved memory, a host of nieces and nephews, including Betty Hall Jones, Willie C. and Bernadette Hall, all of Youngstown; Wali Hall of Akron; and great-nieces and great-nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charlie Williams, who passed away Sept. 15, 1982; six brothers, William B., James M., Lindsey, Esco Sr. and Walter T. and L. C. Hall; two sisters, Alzada H. Carson and Patience Hall Ryals; a niece, Frances Hall; and a nephew, Walter Hall.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the Rev. Wayne Fuller and the Mt. Vernon Church family for their prayers, care and concern for Lillie.
