John “Mickey” Alfona, 90

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be a funeral service held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, with Rev. Bernard Bonnot officiating for John “Mickey” Alfona, 90, who passed away Friday afternoon, July 24, 2009.

Mickey will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends.

He was born March 31, 1919, in Youngstown, the son of George and Rose (Silvestri) Alfona, and was a lifelong area resident.

John retired from the Youngstown Regional Airport, where he worked in security.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Church and a founding member of the Arco Club. He and his wife, Lena, were founders of the Royal Seniors Group, where he was a former president.

Mickey loved playing cards and bocce, along with watching baseball and rooting on his favorite team, the Cleveland Indians

His wife the former, Lena Roberts, whom he married July 1, 1944, died July 13, 2008.

He leaves behind to hold on to her memories a son, George (Florence) Alfona of Youngstown; a daughter, Joan (Dan) Watters of Boardman; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Marian of Youngstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Alfona; a grandson, David Watters; two brothers and two sisters

Friends may call on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, from 10 to 10:55 a.m. at The Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman.

Joe A. Antonini, 79

DeBARY, FLA. – Joe A. Antonini, 79, formerly of Deltona, Fla., and Youngstown, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, July 23, 2009, with his grandson and daughter at his side.

Joe was born July 15, 1930, in Youngstown and moved to Deltona in 1980.

He operated the Fina Service Station in Orange City, Fla., and was a past president of the Eagles Club. In Youngstown, he managed several Sohio and Amoco service stations and received many quality service awards. When you brought your car to be serviced by Joe, whether it be in Ohio or Florida, you could always trust that the work would be done right. He touched so many people in his lifetime and all who knew him loved his personality, charm and, of course, his spaghetti dinners. He spoke impeccable Italian.

Funeral services for Mr. Antonini will be Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Baldauff Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Orange City, Fla. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5 to 7 p.m.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Antonini; son-in-law Kenny Dietz Jr.; sister Daisy Zimmerman and nephew Paul Vasconi.

Surviving are four daughters, Vicki Dietz of Youngstown, Lucy Berger of Deltona, Fla., JoAnn Antonini of Youngstown and Nancy (Mark) Fabian of Warren; the mother of his daughters, Lucille Antonini of Warren; grandchildren Joseph (Sarah) Dietz, Jeff Dietz, Sean Berger, Joe Fabian, Gina Fabian and Kayla Fabian; great-granddaughters Nicole, Hannah and Jenna; and sister Velia Vasconi of Palm Bay, Fla.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank all the many CNAs and nurses of Orange City Nursing Home and Rehab Center who cared for Joe, especially Zedrick and Moffit. A special “thank you” to Wayne and Ione of Osteen, his best friends, for always visiting and brightening up his days with laughter, as well as Hospice of Volusia/Flagler for their support and comfort care.


Robert P. Baker, 80

FLORIDA – Robert P. Baker, 80, passed away at his home Monday morning, July 20.

He was born Jan. 13, 1929 and lived in Youngstown until retiring to Florida in 1980.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Phyllis Schuster Baker.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Mr. Baker was extremely active in organizations in Youngstown including the Youngstown Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Boardman. He was a past president of the Boardman Zoning Commission, was vice-chairman and 15 year member of the Society of Residential Appraisers, was a past president and director of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Northeast Ohio and he was a past director of the Youngstown Area Board of Realtors. For 16 years Mr. Baker was a past president and director of the Boardman Civic Association and was a member of the Warren Columbia Board of Realtors.

He attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and was a U.S. Army Personnel Sgt. during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Baker began his business career with the Home Mortgage Company in 1949, eventually becoming the president and owner. He sold the company when he retired to Florida.

Mr. Baker was a principal in numerous partnerships, developing and managing residential subdivisions, commercial office space and apartment complexes.

Daniel E. Bass, 71

STRUTHERS – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Daniel E. Bass, 71, who passed away Thursday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman.

Dan was born May 27, 1938, in Barberton, a son of the late Frank and Irma (Brown) Bass.

After attending Fitch High School, Dan served in the U.S. Coast Guard, and then retired as a car man for the B & O Railroad in 1989.

He enjoyed outdoor adventures with his family, including hunting, fishing and camping. With his competitive nature, he participated in a family bowling league. His love of writing and listening to music was second only to listening to music performed by his family.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Mary Gonda, whom he married Oct. 2, 1993; eight children, Debbie (Michael) Simon of Smithfield, Va., Greg (Erin) Bass of Lordstown, Randy (Lisa) Bass of Struthers, Kathy (Todd) Morgan of Hinckley, Ashley (Sal) Wood of Struthers and Charles Lantz, Mark Bass and Mary Beth Bass, all at home; a niece, Tiffany Gonda; three sisters: Linda Alexander, Clela Elliot and Diane Heckrow; one brother, Larry Bass; nine grandchildren, Alexis, Michael, Randy, Elizabeth, Greg, David, Breanna, Christopher and Alexander; and two great-grandchildren.

Dan was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Ann Bass; five brothers, Ray, James, Kane, Frank and Lee; two sisters, Lois Clarke and Karen Martin; and a son-in-law, Anthony Varney.

Helen Bertha Bradley, 81

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church for Mrs. Helen Bertha Bradley, 81, who departed this life Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Mrs. Bradley was born May 24, 1928, in New Rochelle, N.Y., a daughter of John and Eva Stinson Bradley.

She had worked with the Legal Aide Society, Youngstown Area Community Action Council, and was a foreman with General Motors Lordstown for 17 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and had worked on the Pastor’s Appreciation Committee. A loving homemaker, Helen’s passion was cooking, especially baking. She was also a former caterer and she enjoyed bingo.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, two daughters, Peggy A. Campbell and Sheila Braxton; three sons, Wayne A. Bradley Sr., Kenneth N. (Theresa) Bradley and Tyrone S. (Angela) Hogan Sr., all of Youngstown; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William Bradley, and a daughter, Rhonda M. Hogan.

Kathryn “Kay” A. Budrovic, 87

STRUTHERS – Kathryn “Kay” A. Budrovic, 87, died June 2, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mrs. Budrovic was born March 17, 1922, in Campbell, a daughter of John and Mary Macupa Helvak.

She was a graduate of Struthers High School and previously worked for Triangle Raincoat and General Fireproofing.

Her husband, Edward Budrovic, whom she married in 1945, died in 1951.

She leaves her brother, Steven (Dorothy) Helvak of Poland and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Olga Helvak.

A private memorial service was held at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland on Saturday, July 25.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

John J. Burns, 55

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. – John J. Burns, 55, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at his residence.

He was born May 23, 1954 in Brownsville, Pa., a son of Thomas J. and Dorothy (Stultz) Burns.

He graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1972, where he was a member of the great undefeated football team. John attended Youngstown State University before moving to Florida. He furthered his excruciation by attending Northwood University of Southeast Florida completing courses related to his position at Pratt Whitney. He was an avid Steeler fan who supported all events and enjoyed an occasional round of golf.

John worked at the Pratt & Whitney Engine Plant in West Palm Beach for 30 years. He was a Test Inspector for the Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne Engine, which was used for the NASA Space Program. He traveled world wide to inspect and teach aspects of the engine at specific NASA sites.

A well-mannered man who looked out for the needs of his friends and fellow workers, he was everybody’s friend and was loved and respected by his family, close friends, and all members of the Pratt & Whitney Plant.

He is survived by his wife, Debra, and stepson, Jason, of West Palm Beach; stepdaughter Rebecca and her husband, Norman Perkins, and two grandchildren, Cassandra and Norman Jr., all of Alaska; a mother-in-law, Alberta Freeman, of Pennsylvania; his mother, Dorothy and stepfather, Buzz Kalinowsky; two brothers, Tom and his wife, Pam Burns, of North Carolina and Michael and his wife, Theresa of Poland; a sister, Kitty and her husband, Terry, Hacon of Youngstown; seven nephews, Tom, Keith and Patrick Burns of North Carolina, Matt and Jacob Burns of Poland and Timmy and Kevin Burns of Hubbard; six nieces, Ehrin, McKenzie, Jesse and Cameron Burns of Poland, Ashley Timmerman of Youngstown and Mollie Parisi of Hubbard.

John was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Burns, and brother, Fred Burns.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Aycock Funeral Home in Jupiter, Fla., where visitation will be Friday, July 31, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, South East County Line Road in Tequesta, Fla.

A memorial Mass for John J. Burns will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at 6 p.m. at the Holy Family Church in Poland.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice in John’s name.

John G “Jack” Cooper, 75

POLAND - John G Cooper, 75, entered into the Lord’s Kingdom Thursday morning at Hampton Woods in Poland.

Mr. Cooper, also known as Jack, was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Struthers, a son of James and Dorothy Stevens Cooper. He was raised in Struthers and moved to Poland in 1959.

A 1951 graduate of Struthers High School, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving from 1952 until 1956 on the U.S.S. Frybarger.

Returning from the war, Jack was a truck driver for his father’s business. He later worked for McNicholas Transfer and retired in 1994 from Tri-County Distributing after 30 years of service. Upon retirement, he received an accommodation from the Ohio Governor for driving more than four million miles without an accident.

After retirement, Jack enjoyed spending time both working and fishing at several local lakes. Jack served and was very active in the Korean War Vets Post No. 137, the American Legion Post No. 15, and the Youngstown VFW Post No. 93.

The utmost importance and Jack’s greatest pride in life was his family. Always ready with a big smile and a joke, Jack left a lasting impression with everyone, touching the lives of many people. Once you met him, you were a friend for life.

In the 1960s, he was instrumental in starting the “Players League” with Poland Baseball, and the “Poland Touchdown Club” in the 1970s.

He was an ordained deacon of the Poland Presbyterian Church and presently a member of the Struthers Presbyterian Church.

Besides his wife, the former Dorothy Jacobson, whom he married Oct. 9, 1954, he leaves two sons, John G (Suzanne) Cooper Jr. and Daniel (Colleen) Cooper, all of Poland; two daughters, Terri Cooper Luzik and Dawna Cooper Molter, also of Poland; and 11 grandchildren, Ben, Cody, Jessie, Abbey, Clay, Jennie (Tommy), Sarah, Matt, Betsy, Tom and Hannah; and one great-grandson, Jhordin.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Cooper, and a sister who passed away soon after birth.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, with Rev. Dick Ferris officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery.

Friends will be received Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Roberta Mae Coy, 82

YOUNGSTOWN – Roberta Mae Coy, 82, of Austinwoods Care Center, passed away at 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland.

Roberta was born Dec. 19, 1926, in East Liverpool, the daughter of the late Milton and Lessie Stewart Bartlette.

Mrs. Coy had previously resided in Pittsburgh, Pa. She had worked as a housekeeper for South Side Hospital in Youngstown for 18 years. Roberta was one of Jehovah’s Witness in Austintown. In past years she enjoyed crocheting, reading and flower gardening.

Mrs. Coy was preceded in death in January of 1979, by her husband, Roger D. Coy. They were married Sept. 2, 1950.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Lemuel) Wansley of Howland and Brenda (David) Jenkins of Salem; two sons, Edward (Lucy) Coy of Salem and Robert (Mindy) Coy of East Rochester; seven grandchildren, Chloe and Ethan Coy, Christopher, Amanda and Shane Whitacre, Heather Bixler and Tiffany Foerster; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Austintown, with speaker David Everly.

There will be no calling hours.

Edna Louise Dunmire, 86

POWELL – Edna Louise Dunmire, 86, formerly of Hubbard and Holiday, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009 at her residence.

She was born in Vandergriff, Pa., May 23, 1923, a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Wasson) Knighten.

Louise was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Dublin.

She is survived by her son, Daniel J. (Susan) Dunmire of Stafford, Va.; daughters Peggy Lee Glasnapp of Orange Park, Fla., and Linda (David) Resch of Powell; sister Trudi Tamburri of Tarentum, Pa.; brother-in-law William (Marlene) Dunmire of Hubbard; grandchildren Eric Glasnapp, Gretchen Denton, Sarah Resch, Daniel Dunmire, Margaret Dunmire and Gregg Dunmire; and six great-grandchildren.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, Daniel J. Dunmire Jr. in 2008; and a son-in-law, Mike Glasnapp.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Thomas Leo Kelly, 84

LAKE PARK, FLA. – Thomas Leo Kelly, 84, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2009.

Born in Youngstown on June 13, 1925, he was a salesman by trade and a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy.

Tom leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Theresa; a son, Tom of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Robert Garvy of Palm Beach, Fla.; and grandchildren, Kelly and Kevin Garvy.

A funeral service with interment at South Florida National Cemetery will be held privately.

John Konik Jr., 79

CAMPBELL – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning in St. John Orthodox Church, with Fr. John Steffaro officiating, for John Konik Jr., 79, who passed away Friday morning at his home.

John was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Campbell, the son of John Sr. and Julia Andrejcak Konik, and was a lifelong area resident.

After graduating from Campbell Memorial High School, John went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from July 15, 1947, until May 3, 1950, and then joined the U.S. Army and served from March 29, 1951, until March 11, 1953.

He was a member of the church, the American Legion Post No. 560 and the VFW.

John retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a truck driver.

He leaves to cherish his memory a sister-in-law, Ann Konik of Campbell; nieces and nephews Georgiana (Joe) of Youngstown, and David (Terrie) and Dennis (Kim), both of Boardman; great-nieces and great-nephews, Lisa, Danielle, Ryan, Kelsey and Diana; and a great-great-nephew, Eric.

He was preceded in death by his parents;, his brother, George Konik; and an infant sister.

The Konik family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in church before the service.

Olwen Markulin, 91

AUSTINTOWN – Olwen Markulin, 91, went to be with her Lord Monday afternoon at Austinwoods Nursing Center.

Olwen was born May 6, 1918, in Wales to the late Robert and Ester (Jones) Purnell. She came to the United States when she was two years old.

She was a nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital for over 30 years, and a member of the Highway Tabernacle. She was a former member of the Eagles, Aerie No. 213.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Markulin, who died in 1988; and a brother, Clifford Purnell.

Olwen leaves a daughter, Ginny (Herb) Andrews of Phoenix; a son, William (Mary Ann) Markulin of Lynhurst; three grandchildren, Barb (Bob) Etchells, Ray (Karen) Eynon and Jennifer (Jason) Adams; and five great-grandchildren in Phoenix.

Private burial at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.

Funeral services will be celebrated at a later date.

Linda L. (Sattler) Messuri, 48

CANFIELD – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, July 27, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dominic Church in Youngstown with the Rev. William Rock officiating, preceded by a 9:45 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, for Linda L. (Sattler) Messuri, 48, who passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009, with her loving family by her side.

Linda will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her kindness and generosity and being a wonderful caretaker.

She was born Aug. 31, 1960, in Youngstown, the daughter of Ronald J. and Nedra L. (Vimmerstedt) Sattler, and was a lifelong area resident.

Linda was a 1978 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and a former beautician at Nicholas Michael Hair Design in Boardman, along with being a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Michael Church in Canfield, where she was active with her children in their CCD program.

She enjoyed vacationing with her family at Geneva on the Lake and spending time with her Club Girls.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband, whom she was married to for over 13 wonderful years, Anthony P. Messuri, whom she married Nov. 18, 1995; a son, Anthony R., and a daughter, Victoria N., at home; her parents, Ronald (Nedra) Sattler of Struthers; two brothers, Jeff (Rhonda) Sattler of Peotone, Ill., and Ronald “Barney” (Mandy) Sattler of Suwannee, Ga.; two sisters, Vivienne (Steve) Kurdziel and Sharon (Gary) Conti, both of Struthers; two brothers-in-law, Dominic (Susan) Messuri and Joseph (Phyllis) Messuri, both of Canfield; and 11 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Fred (Lenore) Sattler and maternal grandparents, Charles (Kay) Vimmerstedt.

Friends may call today, July 26, 2009, from noon to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman.

Entombment will take place at Lake Park Cemetery.

C. Edward Porter, 74

BERLIN CENTER – C. Edward Porter, 74, of 16694 Heiser Road, died at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009, at his home.

He was born May 12, 1935, in Youngstown, the son of the late Edward Franklin and Blodwyn (Thomas) Porter.

Mr. Porter worked for 40 years for Republic Steel and L.T.D., and retired as a foreman. He was a 1953 graduate of Boardman High School, a member of the Salem Hunt Club, alifetime member of N.M.L.R.A. and a lifetime member of Canal Fulton Ramrod Club. Edward enjoyed hunting and local history on muzzleloaders.

Survivors include his wife, Carole Lea (Pitts) Porter, whom he married Aug. 30, 1955; two sons, Tom (Traci) Porter of Salem and Mark (Mildred) Porter of Hammondsville; two grandchildren, Abigail Porter and David (Rhonda) Porter; two great-grandchildren, Charles Walker Porter and Paige Elizabeth Porter; several cousins; and a brother-in-law, David (Kathleen) Pitts of Costa Mesa, Calif.

Private services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home in Salem.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Youngstown.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home in Salem.


Frederick G. Rogers, 88

BOARDMAN – Frederick G. Rogers, 88, passed away Thursday at his residence.

He was born June 27, 1921, in Youngstown, the son of Charles and Elizabeth Farley Rogers.

He was a 1939 graduate of South High School.

Frederick served in World War II with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a Merchant Mariner for over 49 years, retiring in 1992 as Chief Engineman. He was a member of The American Legion Post No. 472 on East Indianola Avenue.

Frederick leaves three nephews, Frederick G. (Michele) Rogers, Paul F. (Kathleen) Rogers Jr. and Gary T. (Linda) Rogers; four great-nephews; and one great-niece.

Besides his parents, Frederick was preceded in death by his brother, Paul F. Rogers.

Per Frederick’s request, there will be no calling hours or services.

Jack L. Stamp Jr., 38

McDONALD – A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at New Life Lutheran Church in Liberty for Jack L. Stamp Jr., 38, who passed away July 19 at Dayton Heart and Vascular Hospital.

Jack was born Oct. 27, 1970, a son of Jean and Jack Stamp, and was a long-time resident of McDonald.

He was a member of New Life Lutheran Church and most recently Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown.

Jack worked at FKI Logistex Inc. (Bushman) for 17 years.

He also enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his nieces and nephew.

He is survived by his mother, Jean Stamp, brothers Mike and Greg, a sister, Kim, and his nieces and nephew, all of McDonald.

He was preceded in death by his father.

John Michael Stanko, 79

YOUNGSTOWN – John Michael Stanko, 79, of the city’s west side, passed away Wednesday morning, July 22, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland.

Mr. Stanko was born Sept. 17, 1929 in Youngstown, a son of the late Joseph and Anna Olenick Stanko, and was a lifelong area resident.

John was a Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War, and he later served in the Marine Corps Reserves.

John was a high school graduate and worked as a baker for Steelton Bakery.

He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown. He enjoyed oil and water-color painting, walking and gardening.

Mr. Stanko leaves a brother, William Stanko of Youngstown; three sisters, Katherine Matasy, Margaret Stanko, and Cecelia Stanko, each of Youngstown; and many nieces and nephews.

John will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A sister, Lorraine Ramhoff, is deceased.

Funeral services were held yesterday, Saturday, July 25, at Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Wilhelmina Sophie Theis, 87

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown for Wilhelmina Sophie Theis, 87, who died early Saturday morning at the Victoria House, where she had lived for the last year.

Wilhelmina was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Youngstown, the daughter of Martin and Sophie (Hansel) Eberth.

Wilhelmina was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, where she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Card Ministry program. She had formerly been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Saxon Club Branch 22, AARP 4339, Notables Chorus and Highway Tabernacle Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening, needlework and crafts.

She retired in 1983 from the Austintown Strouss’ Department Store, where she had been a clerk for 15 years and was a member of the Strouss’ Retirees Group.

Wilhelmina loved her family. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wilhelmina will be missed by her children, Patricia A. (Josef) Heini of Austintown, Carole A. Bixler of Niles, Gerald W. (Lyn) Theis of Cincinnati, and Rev. Joel J. (Joan) Theis Sr. of Austintown. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Joan C. Gent of Austintown; one brother, Michael E. Eberth of Perris, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William C. Theis, whom she married Sept. 29, 1940, and who died June 14, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey M.; sister, M. Louise Biastro; and brother, Martin Eberth Jr.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, prior to services.

The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the Grace Church Memorial Fund or Hospice of the Valley.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Victoria House for the expert and loving care given to Wilhelmina during her time there.

Robert A. Vasu, 64

CANFIELD – Prayer services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and the funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman for Mr. Robert A. Vasu, 64, who died early Friday morning at The Cleveland Clinic.

Robert was born April 21,1945, in Youngstown, a son of George and Helen Moldovan Vasu.

He was a 1965 graduate of South High School, a Vietnam U.S. Army veteran and was self-employed, working in mortgage services. Robert enjoyed many hobbies, especially fishing.

Robert leaves his wife, the former Nancy Campy, who he married Sept. 6, 1969; his father, George Vasu of Mineral Ridge; a daughter, Jillene (Robert) Daloise of Canfield; a granddaughter, Remy who was the apple of his eye; sister-in-law Carma Vasu of Boardman; two nieces, Jodie Johnson and Melissa Lundy; nephew Michael Vasu; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen and a brother, Lawrence.

Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
