Mildred M. Seeger Altsman, 86

NEW SPRINGFIELD – Mildred M. Seeger Altsman, 86, of Springfield Road passed away at 6:40 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Mrs. Altsman was born Feb. 10, 1923 in Woodworth, a daughter of Ernest M. and Dorothy Paulin Harrold and had lived in this area all of her life.

Mildred worked as a cook for 17 years for the Springfield Local School District and was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Springfield.

Her first husband, Galen A. Seeger Sr., whom she married Dec. 14, 1941, died in April 1966. Her second husband, Raymond Altsman, whom she married in November of 1973, died in 1976.

She is survived by a daughter, Marsha (Buzz) Gebhardt of New Springfield; two sons, Robert (Diane) Seeger of New Springfield and Galen “Skip” (Marla) Seeger Jr. of Petersburg; nine grandchildren, Mark (Stacee) Gebhardt, Michael Gebhardt, Matthew (Stephanie) Gebhardt, Melinda (Jamie) Singo, Marlene (Jeffery) Van Pelt, Jessie Seeger, Travis Williams, Sharon (David) Hartzler and John (Erica) Seeger; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Springfield with Aimee Raymond, minister officiating.

Friends will be received from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Deters and a brother, Ross Harrold.

Michael Babinchak, Jr., 85


AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Michael Babinchak Jr., 85, who died early Sunday morning at Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.

He was born Jan. 6, 1924 in Youngstown, a son of Michael and Susan (Butka) Babinchak, Sr., and he resided in this area all of his life.

He was a 1942 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during World War II.

He was employed as a clerk for the U.S. Post Office in downtown Youngstown for 30 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Wickliffe Presbyterian Church.

He enjoyed gardening, hiking, taking “one tank” trips and being outdoors. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, collecting stamps and he loved his pets.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Barbara J. Taylor, whom he married April 17, 1948.

He also leaves behind four children, Gary M. Babinchak of Austintown, Cheryl J. (Fred) Billock of North Royalton, Brian E. Babinchak of Austintown and Becky S. (Michael) Bakalik of Parma; a brother, John (Sharon) Babinchak of Oklahoma; a sister, Ann Ganofsky of Crestwood, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Eddy of Poland and Margaret “Maggie” Taylor of Austintown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sue Travis and Dorothy Kincaid.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Marilyn R. Bellitt, 79

NILES – Services will be at 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman for Marilyn R. Bellitt, 79, who passed away Sunday at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Bellitt was born June 21, 1930 in Niles, a daughter of Delbert C. and Helen Hubbard Minahan. She was a 1948 graduate of Howland High School. Marilyn worked at Moen Faucet in Elyria for 17 years. She was a member of St. Stephen Church in Niles and St. Anthony Shrine.

Her husband, James Bellitt, whom she married Feb. 12, 1972, died in 1989.

She leaves a daughter, Penny Taylor of Niles; two sons, Mike Taylor of Niles and Christopher (Patsy) Taylor of Dallas; 11 grandchildren, Joshua, Natasha, Devin, Jennifer, Anthony, Christopher, Jessica, Christine, Kyle, Autumn and Angelica; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Taylor and a sister, Rae Jean Williamson.

Gertrude P. “Gertie” Biasucci, 85

NILES – Gertrude P. “Gertie” Biasucci, 85, passed away at 4:06 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Girard on March 28, 1924 to John and Theresa (Natale) Isoldi.

Gertie loved her Italian Heritage and its music, bands, cooking and baking. She was known as a “people person” who loved to host and open the door of her home to all family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards, watching movies, and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. A member of St. Stephen Church, she worked at Cherry’s Restaurant at the Eastwood Mall, and at the rectory of St. Stephen Parish.

She is survived by three daughters, Polly Limongi of Niles, Mary (Greg) Broennle of Mineral Ridge and Debbie (Jeff) Sebastian of Niles; four grandchildren, Louis Limongi, Shaun (Charissa) Broennle, Christopher Broennle and Nicole (Mike) Wallace; two great-grandchildren, Mia and Nate Wallace; brother, Patrick Isoldi of Niles; three sisters, Ida McFalls of Girard, Concetta Pecchia of Poland and Theresa LaGamba of Boardman.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Ernest F. Biasucci, whom she married on Aug. 31., 1946, and who passed away on March 29, 2008; and siblings, Anthony Isoldi, Rose Rozzo, Nick Isoldi and Mary Roberts.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Aug. 6. 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.

The funeral will be Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at the funeral home, where family and friends may also visit one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Larry Frient will officiate.

Burial will be at St. Stephen Cemetery.

John Farnsworth, 92

NILES – John Farnsworth, 92, formerly of N. Cedar Street, passed away at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home in Niles.

John was born Nov. 25, 1916 in Niles, the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Cleaton) Farnsworth.

John retired from the State of Ohio Department of Taxation where he worked as a tax examiner. He was also employed with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II. He was a pistol marksman and carbine sharpshooter, and received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged on Jan. 17, 1946.

John was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Niles and a member of Veterans of Foreign War. He enjoyed woodworking, especially furniture making, crossword puzzles, he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and trips to Cooks Forest. He was an avid sports fan, and especially loved to be involved in his grandchildren’s sporting events.

John is survived by two children, Sue Ann (Thomas) Trimbur of Warren and Linda (Barrett) Peterson of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren, Joseph Trimbur, Megan (Patrick) Gallagher and Brian Peterson;

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his former wife, Rita P. Farnsworth and two sisters, Viola Pelton and Mae Welsh.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Niles Chapel.

A funeral service will take place on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Niles, 608 N. Crandon Ave., Niles, Oh 44446.

Burial with full military honors will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.

Frances Hewlett, 78

YOUNGSTOWN – A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Frances Hewlett, 78, will be held Friday at noon at the Philips Chapel CME Church.

Mrs. Hewlett was born Aug. 17, 1930 in Asheville, N.C., a daughter of Preston and Annie Amos Floyd coming to Struthers as a young child.

She was a 1947 graduate of Struthers High School and was formerly employed as a spot welder with Obert Manufacturing Co. for over 10 years and Youngstown Sheet & Tube Campbell Works. She was a devoted wife and mother, who dedicated her time to her family. She was a devoted member of the church.

On Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, our heavenly Father cast his eternal light onto Austinwoods Nursing Home and beckoned her home.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Carol Y. Hewlett of Campbell, Lynne F. Brown and Denise A. Smith, both of Youngstown; her loving sons, Lloyd G. II and his wife, Evonne Hewlett of Youngstown and Kerwin and his wife, Gina Hewlett of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Elwillie Weathers of North Carolina and Donna Hall of Youngstown; a brother, John Floyd of Columbus; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandsons; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

She was greeted in heaven by her parents; her former husband, Lloyd G. Hewlett Sr., who passed away Nov. 21, 1989; three brothers, Donald P., Fredrick C. and Albert Floyd; a son, Daryl A. Hewlett; and a grandson, Nadale S. Hewlett.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Washington Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.

Internment will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery.

Theresa M. Pilolli, 84

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church in Youngstown with the Rev. Kevin Peters officiating, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman for Theresa M. Pilolli, 84, who passed away on Monday morning, Aug. 3, 2009.

Theresa will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends.

She was born Nov. 11, 1924 in Niles, the daughter of August and Augusta (Mastrantonio) Rossi and was a lifelong area resident.

Theresa was employed at McKelvey’s Department Store as a sales clerk along with being a homemaker, and was a graduate of East High School. She was a member of St. Christine Church, various ladies card clubs and a founding member of the Arco Club.

Theresa loved dancing, traveling on bus trips and to Italy, and was an excellent cook and baker. She also loved to have company and socialize and everyone was always welcome at her home.

Her husband, Edmond D. Pilolli, whom she married Nov. 11, 1950, died July 3, 1981.

She leaves behind to hold on to her memories her five children, Lucia (Mike) Yurco of Youngstown, Denise Pilolli of Canfield, Gina (Julius) Chirumbold of North Canton, Teresa Ann (Dave) King of Liberty and Edmond A. (Patricia) Pilolli of Canfield; nine grandchildren, Jeffery Shood, David Ryan King, Natalie Chirumbold, Arielle Pilolli, Rocco Chirumbold and Sophia, Edmond, Elizabeth and Dominic Pilolli; and two step grandchildren, Dennis (Palma) Yurco and Greg (Stella) Yurco; a step great-granddaughter, Kayla; a brother, Atty. Daniel (Mary) Rossi; and many nieces and nephews whom she adored and loved.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a twin sister, Carmella Rossi.

Irene A. Sandusky, 81

John Zuraw officiating, preceded by a 9:45 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman for Irene A. Sandusky, 81, who passed away early Tuesday morning, Aug. 4, 2009. with her loving family by her side.

Irene will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends.

She was born Sept. 26, 1927 in Youngstown, the daughter of John and Laura (Ciesinski) Lotarski and was a lifelong area resident.

Irene was employed with Century Food Market as a cashier, along with being a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, its Infant Jesus of Prague Guild and a former member of the St. Stanislaus Seniors.

Irene loved reading, crocheting and doing needle work.

Her husband Stanley Sandusky, whom she married Oct. 13, 1945, died March 9, 1987.

She leaves behind to hold onto her memories, her four sisters, Dorothy Mika and Virginia (Rocco) Chirchiglia, both of Youngstown and Matilda Airhart of Girard and Joane (Ledo) Ross of Westervile; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mary Louise DiLoreto.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

Eugene R. “Gene” Sharp Sr., 76

“Together Again”

AUSTINTOWN – A funeral service will take place on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Eugene R. “Gene” Sharp Sr., 76, who passed away Monday morning at his daughter’s residence in Austintown.

Gene was born Sept. 12, 1932 in Seward, Pa., the son of the late Bruce and Anna (Smith) Sharp.

He was a 1950 graduate of Chaney High School.

Gene worked for over 30 years as a machinist with Hynes Industries.

Gene enjoyed gardening, photography and studying law.

Gene was married to the former Audrey Elizabeth Walters on July 13, 1954, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 2007.

Gene is survived by his two children, Rey Beth (Sandra) Sharp of Austintown and Gene (Diane) R. Sharp Jr. of Youngstown; two sisters, Joan Agler of Austintown and Kathy (Roger) Hatcher of Poland; a brother, Bruce (Becky) Sharp of Michigan; three grandchildren, Deanna (Brian) Seruga, Gene (Destiny) Sharp III and Gena Rey Sharp; and three great-grandchildren, Mia, Nathan and Arabella.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Martin J. “Marty” Vaughan, 63

NORTH PORT, FLA. – Martin J. Vaughan, 63, formerly of Boardman, passed away late Saturday afternoon, Aug. 1, 2009, at his home, following a courageous three-year battle with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP).

Martin was born Aug. 21, 1945 in Pittsburgh, a son of Jack and Doris Acker Vaughan. He came to the Youngstown area as a boy in 1955, and moved to Florida in 2004.

He was a 1963 graduate of Ursuline High School and was a graduate of Youngstown State University in Industrial Engineering. Martin subsequently worked for 19 years for Packard Electric, retiring in 1987 as a Senior Engineer.

Mr. Vaughan was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown.

Marty leaves his wife, Carol Rocci Vaughan, whom he married Feb. 6, 1965; a daughter, Shanna (Michael) Tennant of North Port; two sons, Martin (Debra) Vaughan of Pleasant View, Tenn. and Kevin (Leah) Vaughan of North Port; his mother, Doris Vaughan of North Jackson; five grandchildren; and a sister, Jacquelin (Frank) Prologo of North Jackson.

Marty will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A daughter, Margaret L. Vaughan and his father are deceased.

Family and friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Norquest Boulevard, where funeral services will take place at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.

Mary M. Weddell, 89

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel for Mary M. Weddell, 89, formerly of Mineral Ridge, who passed away Monday at Omni Manor.

Mary was born May 17, 1920 in Waterford, Pa. She was then adopted by the late Russell and Nora (Holden) Ulmer.

A graduate of Conneaut High School, Mary was a cook for the Weathersfield Local Schools for 27 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mineral Ridge, the 55 Plus Club, Rebekah Lodge 608 in Mineral Ridge, UMW–United Methodist Women, Family’s in Touch, and Niles SCOPE. Mary delivered for Mobile Meals for 17 years. She loved to travel with her friends, crochet, and play bingo.

Her husband, Murray Weddell, whom she married May 31, 1941, passed away Nov. 7, 1958.

She is survived by three daughters, Wilma “Jean” (Michael) Kirkpatrick of Frederickstown, Sharon L. Weddell of Youngstown and Noreen M. (John) Hughes of Masury; two granddaughters, Cynthia Jennings and Kimberly Rotunna; four great-grandchildren, Alexandria Jennings, Courtney Jennings, Rico Rotunna and Casiera Rotunna; and a special niece, Shirley Dull, who’s regular visits and compassion are greatly appreciated.

Sue Marie Zone, 87

YOUNGSTOWN – Prayers will be held Friday at 8:45 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown for Sue Marie Zone, 87, who passed away Tuesday morning at Austinwoods Nursing Center.

Sue was born Dec. 3, 1921 in Youngstown, the daughter of Tony and Antonette (Vechiarella) Zone.

Sue graduated from The Rayen School.

During World War II, she was employed at General Fireproofing and then was employed in the Dietary Department at St. Elizabeth Health Center for 39 years.

Sue was a member of the Addoratoin, the Legion of Mary, and the Senior Citizens of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Sue leaves a sister, Stella Zone of Youngstown; two brothers, Pio James Zone and Anthony Zone, both of Austintown; a niece, Ruth Ann Shaw; three nephews, Frank, Carmen and Jim Zone; and her guardian angels, Dee (Delores) Vicarel and Joanne Colla.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Frank Zone.

The family will be receiving friends Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
