Mary Anderson, 82

“Together Again”

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Christine’s Church for Mary Anderson, 82, who passed away early Monday morning.

She was born Dec. 11, 1926, the daughter of the late James J. and Rebecca Veronica (Bees) McHugh.

Mary was a homemaker, and a member at St. Christine’s Church.

She is survived by her two sons, James J. (Georgia) Anderson of Boardman and Robert W. (Marilyn) Anderson of Austintown; one daughter, Mary E. (Randall) Hoover of Stow; one brother, Thomas J. (Jane) McHugh of Canfield; two sisters, Catherine V. Rousseau of Canfield and Rebecca V. (Richard) Wilson of Poland; three sisters-in-law; Margaret T. McHugh of Indiana, Ruth McHugh of Poland and Sandra (McHugh) Sutton of Dayton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Anderson, whom she married Jan. 6, 1947 and passed away Nov. 21, 1993; four brothers, James (Bud) McHugh, Alfred McHugh, Michael McHugh and Francis McHugh; and one sister, Joan McHugh.

Albert Dan Beraduce, 84

BOARDMAN – Albert Dan Beraduce, 84, passed on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland.

He was born May 9, 1925, in Youngstown, the son of the late Donato Beraduce and the late Loretta (Crugnale) Beraduce.

He was the husband of Bonita (Richards) Beraduce, whom he married on May 19, 1949.

The family includes his wife, Bonita Beraduce of Boardman; a daughter, Bonnie Beraduce of Boardman; four sons, Dan (Wanda) Beraduce of New Middletown, Donald (Dana) Beraduce of Struthers, Joseph Beraduce of Boardman and Richard (Wilda) Beraduce of Boardman; two brothers, Dominic Beraduce of of Boardman and James Beraduce of Florida; a sister, Vera Villani of Youngstown; and grandchildren, Jennifer Beraduce and Kaleigh Beraduce, whom were the light of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Margaret Beraduce, Ann Capuzello, Antoinette Skladar and Mary Lodyn.

Dan was a graduate of East High School and attended Westminister College and Tulane University. He was a member of St. Charles Church and a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired from the Youngstown Fire Department with the rank of Captain.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fabrizio Funeral Home, 619 East Indianola Ave. in Youngstown.

A memorial service will be at St. Charles Church on Friday at 11 a.m.

Dan was a man who adored his wife and family and dedicated his life instilling love, friendship, and loyalty in everyone he met. He was as proud of his family as they were of him. He will be sadly missed, but because of his strength and dedication, they will continue on as a happy loving family. May he rest in peace.

Robert Thomas Boak Sr., 76

AUSTINTOWN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Robert Thomas Boak Sr., 76, who died Monday evening at his residence.

Bob was born July 22, 1933 in New Castle, Pa., the son of Howard and Lena (Frank) Boak.

Bob retired from Cold Metal Products in 1995, after 38 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict on the U.S.S. Dixie.

He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, U.S. Steelworkers and the Dunkin Donut Club. Bob enjoyed and loved being with his family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Nina “Nellie” (Congemi), whom he married Oct. 29, 1955; sons, Robert T. of Austintown, Charles H, (Taren) of Columbus and Michael J. of Key West, Fla.; and sister, Rita (Chuck) Congemi of Youngstown. He is also survived by grandchildren, Robert D., Daniel P., Brittany N. and Chad M. and great-grandson, Jaxon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ralph and Tim.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.

John W. Cataffa Jr., 58

ROCHESTER, PA. – John W. Cataffa Jr., 58, formerly of Girard, passed away Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at Heritage Valley in Beaver Pa.

Born May 24, 1951 in Girard, the son of the late John W. Sr. and Mary (Senediak) Cataffa.

Mr. Cataffa was a retired employee of Norfolk Southern Railroad and a member of the Rochester BPO Elks. He was a professional singer for most of his life, singing in many local bands, including The Roadshow, New Zoo Revue, Freelance and The Look.

Surviving is his wife of nine years, Faith (Romeo) Cataffa; a daughter and non-in-law, Kimberly and Benjamin Campbell of Cheswick, Pa.; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Jo Cataffa of Girard; his mother-in-law, Esther Romeo of Beaver, Pa.; three nephews and a niece, Richard Jr., Scott, Jeffrey and Sherri Cataffa; and his precious puppy, Lily Belle.

Friends will be received Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Tatalovich Funeral Home, Center Township location, 3475 Brodhead Road, Monach, PA 15061, where a service will be held Friday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca, Pa. Fr. John McKenna will officiate.

Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum in Hopewell Township, Pa.

William John Dunn, 65

 BOARDMAN – Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Fox Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick Church, celebrated by Father Edward P. Noga, for William John Dunn, 65, who passed away Monday at his residence.

Mr. Dunn was born Jan. 8, 1944 in Youngstown, a son of Raymond J. and Margaret L. Scanlon Dunn Sr. and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a graduate of South High School. William was a steelworker with U.S. Steel and the co-owner of Custom Painting. He was a former member of Saint Patrick Church and involved with many pool leagues. Bill was a very caring member of the family who was loved by all.

He leaves his ex-wife, Jane Hutchins of Boardman; a brother, Raymond (Nancy) Dunn of Poland; a sister, Peggy (Walt) Morgan of Boardman; and a niece, Susan (Thomas) Dunn Slaven of New Middletown.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Dunn, who died as an infant.

Elizabeth “Betty” Amadio Orlando Gittermann

NORTH LIMA – Elizabeth “Betty” Amadio Orlando Gittermann, of Glenellen, 9661 Market St., passed away the morning of Aug. 17, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Betty was born in Boyers, Pa. to the late Ami and Clementine Campana Amadio.

She married Alexander Orlando and he preceded her in death. She then married Louis Gittermann in October of 1997, he passed away on Nov. 18, 1999.

Mrs. Gittermann was a retired real estate agent for McClure Realty.

She was a New Castle High School and a New Castle Business College graduate.

She was a member of the New Castle Contract Bridge Club, Park Vista Residents Association, AARP, and a poet. Her poetic works have appeared in the book “Poems of Great America” published by the National Arts Society, blue ribbon winner of New Castle Poetry Society, Pennsylvania State Bowling Champion, Inducted into The Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, past president of Confraternity Christian Mothers of St. Vitus, past member of Associated Realtors, past St. Francis Hospital auxiliary volunteer, and past officer of St. Vitus P.T.G. for nine consecutive years.

Survivors include a son, Martin Orlando of Sky Valley, Calif.; one brother, Carmen Amadio of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Sofia Giancola of Lakewood, Colo.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and first and second husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother, Peter Amadio; and four sisters, Cora Martucci, Rose Walker, Frances Rubeis and Mary Panella.

There will be no calling hours or services.

Entombment will be at St. Mary Mausoleum.

Howard J. Lonardo, 95

BOARDMAN – Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Howard J. Lonardo, 95, who passed away Monday morning at his daughter’s home.

Howard was born June 21, 1914 in Youngstown, the son of the late Vito and Mary (Leonelli) Lonardo.

Howard was a 1934 graduate of South High School and then attended electronics school in Chicago.

He was owner and operator of Lonardo & Sons Green House for over 60 years. Prior to joining his dad at the green house, Howard worked for Triangle Music, where he repaired Jukeboxes.

Howard was a member of the Pilgrim Collegiate Church.

He was past president of Lowellville Rod and Gun Club and the Ohio Vegetable and Potato Growers Association. Howard enjoyed fishing, boating and traveling.

His wife, the former Emma M. Lobinger, whom he married June 21, 1937, passed away April 15, 1981.

Howard leaves a daughter, Jane Scott of Boardman; a sister, Josephine Anzelmo of Boardman; a brother, Arthur Lonardo of Boardman; a granddaughter, Kimberly (Darren) Cumbie of South Carolina; a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Cumbie; and a special friend, Carol Essad of Boardman.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son-in-law, Ronald A. Scott; and a brother, Michael Lonardo.

The family will be receiving friends Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Rev. Rudolph Lott Sr., 73

YOUNGSTOWN – The Rev. Rudolph Lott Sr., 73, of 6300 South Ave., departed this life Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at 11:20 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Boardman Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born Oct. 2, 1935 in Warren, the son of Robert Taylor and Elizabeth Cowart and raised by Major “Chief” Cowart.

Mr. Lott was employed with Trumbull County Jobs and Family Services for 20 years working in Security before retiring in 2006.

He attended Braceville High School and American Baptist College Youngstown Extension, receiving an associates degree in Theology. He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Braceville, was Chaplin of Seminars and enjoyed cooking, watching westerns and reading. Mr. Lott served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1953.

He married Olimpia Peterman Lott on February of 2006.

Besides his wife of Campbell, he leaves to mourn, from his 43 year union with Lillie Mae Lott, two sons, Jerome Davis of Dover, N.H. and Rudolph Lott Jr. of Dublin, Ga.; three daughters, Erika Marie (Allen) Appling of Boardman, Kimberly Tillman of Austintown and Danielle Renee (William) Peace of Boardman; one stepson, Antonio Peterman of Campbell; one stepdaughter, Shanna Peterman of Campbell; two sisters, Missionary Spellmyra Westmoreland of Bartlett, Ill. and Etta Louise Herbert of Bedford Heights; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William Cowart; three grandchildren; and one nephew.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at noon at the Greater St. John Church of God In Christ.

Calling hours will be one hour prior to services, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Burial will be at Braceville Cemetery.

Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.

Mildred Belle Montgomery, 92

HUBBARD – Mildred Belle Montgomery, 92, died Sunday evening, Aug. 16, 2009, at O’Brien Memorial Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 31, 1916 in Conneaut Lake, Pa., a daughter of Charles and Nannie Palm Foulk and was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. Montgomery, a homemaker, was a member of the Central Christian Church in Hubbard and enjoyed bowling and swimming.

Her husband, Samuel Earl Montgomery, whom she married, Dec. 24, 1937, died June 15, 1991.

She leaves a son, Gary Montgomery of Youngstown.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary Nodler and Lois Macy.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at noon at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, one hour prior to the services at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to noon.

Anthony R. Palumbo, 69

YOUNGSTOWN – Anthony R. Palumbo, 69, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at his home under the care of hospice.

He was born on Nov. 13, 1939, the son of the late John and Jane (Del Sardo) Palumbo.

He graduated from Clairton High School in 1957 and upon graduation attended Pittsburgh University and also attended Point Park College and graduated with a degree in accounting.

Mr. Palumbo was employed by Michael’s in Boardman as the Frame Shop Manager and was a master framer. He was also a certified one stroke teacher. He taught both one stroke and oil painting. He loved to teach and share his talent.

He was a longtime member of St. Christine Church, where he served as an usher at the 9 a.m. Mass for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in which he was a 4th Degree Knight.

Anthony is survived by his wife, Debora (George) Palumbo of Boardman, whom he was married for 25 years; two sons, Jon and Joseph, and a daughter, Nicole, all three of Boardman; and two sisters, Rose Marie Absalom of Pittsburgh and Laverne Hoover of Buffalo, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ann (Palumbo) Orsini; and a brother, Joseph Palumbo.

He was friends to all.

Family and friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at St. Christine Church, where a funeral Mass will be at 1:30 p.m.

Julie Vernars, 41

BOARDMAN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Boardman, with the Rev. Shawn Conoboy officiating for Julie Vernars, 41, who peacefully passed away early Monday morning, Aug. 17, 2009, with her loving family by her side after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Julie will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends.

She was born Feb. 15, 1968 in Youngstown, the daughter Michael and Mary Ann (Kussic) Vernars.

Julie had a 15 year career in the Pharmaceutical Industry and most recently was employed with Merck Pharmaceuticals as a Senior Professional Represenitive, previously she had worked for Ortho-McNeil a division of Johnson & Johnson.

She was a 1986 honors graduate of Boardman High School, where she lettered in track, softball, golf and basketball, and was a 1990 graduate of Bowling Green University, where she received her Bachelor’s in Psychology.

Julie was a member of St. Charles Church, and Phi Mu Sorority while attending Bowling Green University.

Julie loved snow skiing, traveling to the ocean, photography, children, and animals especially wolves. She also enjoyed giving to others and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

She leaves behind to hold on to her precious memories her parents, Michael and Mary Ann Vernars of Boardman; a brother, Michael Vernars of Flower Mound, Texas; a sister, Kerry (Dominic) Prologo of Canfield; nieces and nephews, Ali and Vincent Prologo and Nicholas and Anthony “Tony” Vernars; along with numerous aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Nicholas and Anna Kussic; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Jane Vernars; her godmother, Phyllis Kussic; and her beloved dog of 15 years, Apache.

Friends may call on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Boardman.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and their staff along with MVI Hospice Home Care and all who were so kind and helpful to Julie during her illness.

Darry Brandon Woods, 19

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Darry Brandon Woods, 19, aka Brandon Burt, who departed this life Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009.

Mr. Woods, lovingly known as “Bam,” was born April 21, 1990 in Youngstown, a son of Darry K. Woods and Ursula L. Burt.

He attended Chaney High School. He enjoyed sports and played football with Volney Rodgers Jr. High School. As a youth, he also played little league football with the Northside Knights. He attended the Holy Trinity Baptist Church and Jehovah House of Prayer Church of God In Christ. He had a passion for dogs, especially pit bulls.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother and stepfather, Ursula and Kevin Hopkins of Liberty; father and stepmother, Darry and Dawn Woods of Dayton; two daughters, Dairy’ana L. Woods and Deyera N. Woods, both of Youngstown; his fiance, Shameka S. Starkey of Youngstown; two sisters, Stephanie V. Woods of Youngstown and Tiphanie L. Woods of Dayton; a brother, Darian K. Woods of Youngstown; a cousin, whom he was reared with and was as close as a brother, Jarelle A. Burt; two stepbrothers, Brandon Clinkscale of Youngstown and Shane Clinkscale of Dayton; a stepsister, Charlee Mitchell of Dayton; grandparents, Cheryl Silas and Fred Lawson, both of Youngstown.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eva Burt Lawson, Thomas Watson Burt and Kenny Silas.

Mary T. Yash, 94

“Together Again”

YOUNGSTOWN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthias Church on Friday at 1 p.m. for Mary T. Yash, 94, who passed away Tuesday morning at Hospice House.

Mary was born in Corry, Pa. on April 1, 1915, a daughter of Joseph and Rose Yevcsak Pavlina.

She attended Wilson High School and was a member of St. Matthias Church. She was employed as a sales clerk at McKelvey’s for 25 years, retiring in the late 1960’s.

Mary was a loving daughter and showed that love by helping to raise her siblings after her mother died when Mary was only 15 years old. Together with her husband, Steve, she raised their own two daughters and was very much a part of the lives of all of her grandchildren and their families.

She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bowling, crocheting and, most of all, cooking for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married June 4, 1936 and who died July 12, 2000; her sister, Margaret Kashmar; and her brothers, Mike, Joseph, George, John, Paul, Raymond and Steve Pavlina.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Rosalind (Gary) Johnson of Warren and Marlene Soltis of Boardman; her grandchildren, Sherel (George) Borak, Sandy (Walter) Siembieda, Dr. Craig (Karyn) Soltis, Kelley Brandenstein and Kevin (Dara) Soltis; her 13 great-grandchildren; and her two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, prior to the church service at the Kubina-Yuhasz Funeral Home, 5925 Market St. in Boardman from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Interment will take place at Lake Park Cemetery.
