James E. Anderson, 69
AUSTINTOWN A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 4 p.m. at Chaney High School Auditorium, 731 S. Hazelwood Ave. in Youngstown, for James E. Anderson, 69, who passed away Saturday evening at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., due to complication from brain cancer.
James was born Oct. 8, 1939 in Youngstown, a son of Ralph E. and Mary Burt Anderson.
He worked and owned his own business for 50 years in furniture restoration.
James was active as one of Jehovahs Witnesses serving with various congregations in the area.
He was a kind and humble man that will be dearly missed by so many.
James married JoAnn Ashley on Nov. 12, 1960 and is also survived by a daughter, Deborah (Douglas) Arkwright of Austintown; and two grandsons, Dustin and Devan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

William D. Bright, 73
YOUNGSTOWN A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. William D. Bright, 73, will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis T. Garner officiating.
Mr. Bright was born Aug. 12, 1936 in Youngstown, a son of Willie C. and Ernestine M. Ivery Bright.
He was a graduate of South High School and he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 until he was honorably discharged in 1959.
Mr. Bright received his Masters degree in Arts and Education from Youngstown State University. He was formerly employed as a teacher with the Youngstown City Schools, where he taught Art. He was a member of the church, where he served as a former trustee and a faithful member of the choir.
He was an accomplished artist and some of his artwork was displayed at the church during Black History Month. He helped with the Vacation Bible School, teaching the children arts and crafts. Mr. Bright loved to sing and play tennis, but his favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren.
On Aug. 30, 2009 our heavenly Father cast his eternal light onto St. Elizabeths Health Care Center and beckoned him home.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Maria Bright, with whom he made his home; his stepdaughters, Purtina Wolf of Richmond, Va. and Lina Bell of Memphis, Tenn.; his son, William Bright III of Youngstown; his stepson, Leonard Simmons of Tampa Bay, Fla.; his brother, James B. Bright; his sister, Betty Peace, both of Youngstown; his aunt, Francis North of Virginia; five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
He was greeted in heaven by his parents; two brothers, Robert D. Bright and the Rev. Theodore Bright; and a brother-in-law, Cohn Peace Sr.
The family will receive friends Friday, one hour prior to services at the church and at the home of Mrs. Betty Peace, 302 W. Midlothian Blvd..
Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery.

Ruth Jane Myers Ewing, 86
BERLIN CENTER Mrs. Ruth Jane Myers Ewing, 86, died at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House in Poland after a battle of several years with Alzheimers Disease.
A former resident of Spring Hill, Fla. and a native and longtime resident of Franklin, Pa., Mrs. Ewing had made her home with her daughter, Mary Katherine Ewing Kelley, and her husband, Tim Kelley, of Berlin Center for the past several years.
She was born Nov. 24, 1922 in Franklin, the daughter of Charles and Florenda Simons Myers.
She was married on July 18, 1947 to Thomas Earl Ewing in Franklin. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on July 18, 1987. He preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1989.
Mrs. Ewing was employed for several years at Franklin Hospital in Franklin, and had served as a volunteer at Franklin Hospital and Brookville Hospital in Brookville, Fla. She was also a volunteer with Venango County, Pa. 4-H Clubs for many years and served in various leadership capacities.
Mrs. Ewing is survived by a daughter, Mary Katherine Kelley and husband, Tim of Berlin Center; a son, Thomas E. Ewing Jr. and wife Li-Cheng, of Lawton, Okla.; two grandchildren, Jason and Meng-Hua; a sister, Gladys Keene, of Meadville, Pa.; and a niece whom she helped raise, Karen Sue Ewing Spangler of Mililani, Hawaii. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Hollabaugh of Franklin.
Calling hours will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, followed by a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave. in Austintown.
Mrs. Ewing will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. at a later date.

Christopher A. Fitzer, 51
NORTH LIMA Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. in Boardman for Christopher A. Fitzer, 51, who died Monday morning, Aug. 31, 2009.
He was born Nov. 18, 1957 in Youngstown, the son of the late William and Joanne Dimeno Fitzer.
He graduated from Boardman High School in 1976 and completed a business management degree at Youngstown State University in 1983.
Christopher started working part-time at Natural Health Foods & Barbell Center during his senior year of high school, and in 1992 he purchased the business.
He enjoyed golfing, woodworking and wood and stone work for his wifes business, Farmer Daves Gift and Garden Shop.
Christopher is survived by his wife, the former Arleen Utsinger, whom he married on Dec. 4, 1999; his children, Abby Fitzer of Pittsburgh, David Fitzer at home, Donald (Missy) Kerens of Austintown, Richard (Dottie) Kerens of Champion and Kristopher Kerens of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two grandchildren, Carson and Haley; and two brothers, Max Fitzer of Boardman and David Fitzer of Orlando, Fla.
Besides his parents, Christopher was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angelina.
Friends may call today, Sept. 2, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. in Boardman and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Albert J. Hamilla, 77
FARRELL, PA. Albert J. Hamilla, 77, formerly of 1108 Wallis Ave., passed away peacefully with his children by his side at 10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at UPMC Hospital Farrell after an extended illness.
Mr. Hamilla was born in Farrell, Pa. on Nov. 3, 1931, to Albert J. and Elizabeth L. (Gongo (Gun-jo)) Hamilla Sr.
He was a 1950 graduate of Farrell High School. At age 12, Albert worked for Kleins Dairy, delivering milk until the dairy closed after 25 years. He then went on to work at the Sharon Steel Corp., where he would work for 28 years as an electrician.
Mr. Hamilla was the President and Owner of the Farrell Russian Club, formerly on Darr Avenue in Farrell for several decades until massive unemployment hit the area. He then made the decision to close the social club in 1988. He was very proud of his heritage, he would serve all the club members holiday meals for both American as well as Orthodox holidays. Many of great memories of family and friends were made in the over 30 years he ran this members only social club named Carpathia Russian Home simply known as the Farrell Carpo-Russ Club.
Later in his life, Albert enjoyed fishing and would often load the canoe with his dog Tippy and would have a grand old time out on the lake.
Mr. Hamilla was a very talented artist and loved to doodle characters on all of his birthday cards for his grandchildren and adult children. It could be on a napkin or placemat in a restaurant. If he had a pencil, he was drawing some kind of cartoon characters.
Albert is survived by his six children, Guy R. Hamilla of Spokane, Wash., Andrea J. (Hamilla) Cleland and her husband, William of Farmdale, Lori E. (Hamilla) Richards of Sharpsville, Pa., Gregg J. Hamilla and his wife, Shyrlie of Hermitage, Pa., Garry A. Hamilla and Timothy of Transfer, Pa. and Jessica L. (Hamilla) Selders of Sharpsville; two brothers, Raymond Hamilla of Hermitage and Lawrence Hamilla of Greenville, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Antoinette (Hamilla) Tomich of Campbell; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father in 1966 and his mother in 2001; his youngest sister, Anna F. (Hamilla) Tice, formerly of Hubbard and her husband, Delbert Tice; brother-in-law Edward Tomich, formerly of Campbell; and an infant daughter to be named Alexis in 1983; and a grandson, Christopher J. Weaver.
At Mr. Hamillas request to his family, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
Funeral arrangements were provided by Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel in Brookfield.
Mr. Hamillas dog, Tippy, and two cats were very important to him so its no surprise why he requested that any contributions be made to the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter at 2599 Broadway Road, West Middlesex, PA 16159 (724) 342-5834, a very deserving charity.

William Clark Huffman, 95
POLAND William Clark Huffman, 95, passed away Thursday the 27th at his home in Poland, where he lived with his wife, Evelyn Mae (Tiday) Huffman, who preceded him in death last June.
William was born Aug. 25, 1914 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Georgia Clark Huffman.
He attended South High School and retired as an engineer from Republic Steel in 1976 after 37 years of service. After retiring, William continued to work well into his 80s.
Before moving to Poland, he spent many years living on Lake Tomahawk enjoying his favorite pastime, fishing and gardening, with many hours spent fly fishing for trout in Pennsylvania.
William was an artist and left his family with many beautiful images to cherish.
William played softball in his younger days and watched sports enthusiastically all his life.
He was known to know his way around the kitchen and you could count on something sweet from the oven.
He leaves his daughter, Dianne Huffman of Poland; two stepchildren, Rita (Tony) Kulisz and Ron (Elayne) Prater; a daughter-in-law Virginia Huffman; sister, Elaine Vaughn of New Middletown; brother Richard Huffman of California; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
William lived, loved, laughed and was an inspiration to be strong in mind and health. What a treasure we have lost. He lives through the people who were blessed enough to know him.
Besides his parents and wife, William was preceded in death by his son, William Huffman Jr.
A private memorial will be given by his family.
William will be buried at Poland Riverside Cemetery in Poland.

Together Again
YOUNGSTOWN Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Dorothy E. Roth, 86, who passed away Tuesday morning at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Dorothy was born April 18, 1923 in Girard, a daughter of William and Vera (Gates) McClain.
She was a homemaker and loved playing cards and embroidery.
She was a member of the Austintown Community Church, Eastern Star Miriam Chapter No. 278 and the Argus Widows.
Her husband, Robert C. Roth Sr., whom she married Nov. 22, 1943, died Aug. 5, 1993.
She is survived by two sons, Robert C. (Carol) Roth Jr. of Liberty and William (Evelyn) Roth of Austintown; a daughter, Shirley (Walter) Miller with whom she made her home; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a brother, Raymond McClain of Austintown.
Preceding her in death besides her husband and parents are three brothers, Paul, William and Richard McClain.
Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.

GIRARD A funeral Mass will be held Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Youngstown for Rose Marie Seals, 64, who died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
She was born June 1, 1945 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late John and Ann (Samplak) Porubensky.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Youngstown and worked many years at the church as a housekeeper.
She married James D. Seals Oct. 11, 1969, and he passed away April 9, 1990
She is survived by four children, Michael Porubensky of Warren, James A. (Heidi) Seals of Youngstown, Matthew Seals of Girard and Anne (Joshua) Rarick of Cleveland; a brother, John Porubensky of Campbell; and three grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dolores McKinney and Mary-Ann Porubensky.
Family and friends may call on Friday from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church.
Interment will be at St Nicholas Cemetery in Campbell.

PALO ALTO, CALIF. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, in the chapel at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boardman, for Doris W. Shaw, 87, formerly of Youngstown, who passed away Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at Stanford Hospital in California.
Doris was born Oct. 14, 1921 in Mansfield, the daughter of A. Wade and Minnie Lee (Evans) Williams.
She was a graduate of South High School class of 1939 and received her B.A. from Kent State in 1942.
Doris was an executive secretary for the city of Burbank, Calif. for 19 years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Public Employees Retirement System. Doris enjoyed traveling.
Her husband, Norman Wesley Shaw, whom she married in April of 1953, passed away March 27, 2007.
Doris leaves one son, Kenneth Wesley Shaw (Shawn Webster) of San Diego; one daughter, Kathryn Lee Shaw (Ricard Townsend) of Palo Alto; and three grandchildren of Palo Alto.
The family will receive friends in the chapel at Forest Lawn Cemetery from 10:45 a.m. until the services at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Barton Bart W. Siverling, 86
BOARDMAN Barton Bart W. Siverling, 86, died Sunday evening, Aug. 30, 2009, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, in Sandusky.
Born in East Brady, Pa. on April 24, 1923, he went on to become an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII in Company M, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Division. He participated in the landings in Anzio, Italy, and southern France, and completed his military service after the war in Bad Wildungen, Germany.
Bart was employed by Copperweld Steel Company in Warren, retiring in 1986 after 31 years. He then worked for the Mill Creek Park Golf Course in Boardman, where he enjoyed arriving early and having coffee with the guys.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bertha (Young) Siverling, whom he married on March 11, 1950 in New Bethlehem, Pa. Together they were members of the Paradise Lutheran Church in Boardman, and especially loved working together in their yard.
His son, Art (Annette) Siverling and grandchildren, Elizabeth Siverling and David Siverling, of Sandusky, along with sister, Louise Harris, of Barberton, plus nephews, Joe May and Jack May, and niece, Karen Dufore, also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Barton and Lydia Jane (Gruber) Siverling.
Friends may call on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Bardshar Road in Sandusky. The Rev. Philip Gardner will officiate.

HUBBARD There will be private services at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for Mary Susak, 85, who died peacefully Sunday at her daughters home in Sharpsville, Pa.
Mary was born Feb. 17, 1924 in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Susanna Maczko Hudak.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hubbard. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, being outdoors, and most of all spending time with her great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Joseph Susak, whom she married Feb. 12, 1941, passed away Feb. 21, 1987.
She leaves her children, Joseph Susak of Youngstown, Susan (Sonny) Holmes of Sharpsville and Richard Susak of Hubbard; her seven grandchildren, Mary (George) Coast of Sharon, Pa., Paula Holmes of Sharon, Jennifer (Frank) Raiti of Sharpsville, Joe (Wendy) Susak of Columbus, Tammy, Michael Susak of Hubbard and Richard (Shelley) Susak of Austintown; and her 16 great-grandchildren, Brian, Shawn, Bruce, Steven, Brandon, Kirklyn, Kimmie, Cassie, Kyra, Emylee, Ethan, Kayla, Brittany, Alexis, Rayna and Theresa. She also leaves a sister, Ann Kenny of Campbell.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Andrew Hudak, George Hudak, John Hudak and Joseph Hudak; sisters, Alice Kessler, Betty Lewis, Bertha Hudock and Helen Chamer; and her daughter-in-law, Sharon Marie Susak.
Burial will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.

Fern A. Warnock, 89
AUSTINTOWN Fern A. Warnock, 89, died late Sunday evening at her sons home, under the care of Hospice of the Valley.
She was born March 2, 1920 in Hillsville, Pa., a daughter of Edward and Eva M. Braun Galey.
Fern was employed by the J.C. Penney Co. for 26 yeas, retiring in 1995. She had previously worked for the General Fireproofing Co.
She was a 1938 graduate of Lowellville High School. She was a member of the Christ Church Presbyterian for many years and also a member of the Tacit Club.
Fern loved spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking.
Her husband of 33 years, Frederick J. Warnock, whom she married July 26, 1951, died June 25, 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, Galey J. Bland of Los Alamos, N.M.; her son, F. Jay (Colleen) Warnock III of Austintown; two sisters, Doris Ricker of Austintown and Donna Galey of Boardman; a brother, Loyd Galey of North Lima; four grandchildren, Corrie Jones, Jeffery Bland, Jay Warnock and Caitlyn Warnock; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy Jones and Cooper Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Roy, Edward, Leon, Eugene and Dale Galey and two granddaughters, Jennifer Bland and Jackie Lynn Warnock.
There will be a memorial service at a later date.

Jeanette L. Zatvarnicky, 60
NILES Jeanette L. Zatvarnicky, of 50 Washington St., died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
She was born March 8, 1949 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Blake and Betty McDaniel Helmheckel.
She was a 1968 graduate of Warren Western Reserve High School, and was employed as a punch press operator at Delphi Packard Electric for 29 years before retiring in 2001.
She enjoyed playing computer games, animals, car shows, and spending time with her granddaughter, Hayley.
Her husband, David Zatvarnicky Sr., whom she married Nov. 19, 1985, died March 4, 2009.
Jeanette, who was a very caring person and placed everyone else first, will be deeply missed by a son, Stephan Krenciprock of Niles; a daughter, Natalie Krenciprock of Niles; three sisters, Leeann Ford and her husband, Dave of Warren, Debi Look and her husband, Ray of Chatsworth, Calif. and Carol Sandilands and her husband, Bill of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Hayley Krenciprock and Shaylynn Krenciprock; and her stepmother, Norma Helmheckel of Warren.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother; and a brother, Jeffrey Helmheckel.
