Dorothy J. Bailey, 93
CANFIELD Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wickliffe Christian Church, 3939 Potomac Ave. in Austintown for Mrs. Dorothy J. Bailey, 93, who died Thursday morning at Shepherd of the Valley.
Mrs. Bailey was born Sept. 28, 1915 in Youngstown, a daughter of Peter and Eva May Hoover Traut.
She was a 1933 graduate of Chaney High School and attended Kent State University and Youngstown College.
Her husband, Chester W. Bailey, whom she married Oct. 11, 1942, died Jan. 23, 1976.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Dr. Robert Sr.) Brocker of Canfield; a son, Bruce L. Bailey of Poland; 10 grandchildren; Sean and Scott Bailey, Robert Jr., William, Barry, Bruce, Brian, Brad, Brent and Beth Ann Broker; and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded by her two sisters, Elizabeth Chubbs and Helen Maquire Jeffries.
Dorothy was a member of the church, served as the treasurer for over 38 years and served as a Deacon. She was on the Board of Trustees of Youngstown Y.W.C.A. and served as President of the Board; she served on the board of Mahoning Valley Camp Fire Girls, the Youngstown Humane Society, a member of the Health and Welfare Council of Youngstown, the Community Chest Corporation, Chairman of the Metropolitan Division and the United Appeal Drive, served on the Board of the Mahoning County Transitional Homes and a member of the Altrusa Club of Youngstown.
She was also elected as an Honorary Member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Gamma Pi Chapter and was a member of the Garden Exchange Club, the Garden Forum of Youngstown. She was a member of the Monday Quest Club and its Past Officers Club and the Doris Birdman Service Club, which are all members of the Youngstown Area Federation of Womens Club. Dorothy served as the Scholarship Chairman, Ways and Means Chairman, Program Chairman, Treasurer and President.
She was appointed by Probate Judge Charles P. Henderson to the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority Board, which she served several terms as chairman. Dorothy was also elected as Republican Precinct Committee Woman, was active for many years in political activities and attended the Republican National Convention in 1976 as a delegate.
She was employed part-time as the office secretary for the Organization of Protestant Men for 13 years.
Since 1976 winters were spent in Florida. She enjoyed golf, bridge (member of Canfield Duplicate Bridge) and traveling. She traveled to Europe, Spain, Hawaii, Israel, Egypt, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, China, United States and the Caribbean Islands.

William D. Bright, 73
YOUNGSTOWN A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. William D. Bright, 73, will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis T. Garner officiating.
Mr. Bright was born Aug. 12, 1936 in Youngstown, a son of Willie C. and Ernestine M. Ivery Bright.
He was a graduate of South High School and he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 until he was honorably discharged in 1959.
Mr. Bright received his Masters degree in Arts and Education from Youngstown State University. He was formerly employed as a teacher with the Youngstown City Schools, where he taught Art. He was a member of the church, where he served as a former trustee and a faithful member of the choir.
He was an accomplished artist and some of his artwork was displayed at the church during Black History Month. He helped with the Vacation Bible School, teaching the children arts and crafts. Mr. Bright loved to sing and play tennis, but his favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren.
On Aug. 30, 2009 our heavenly Father cast his eternal light onto St. Elizabeths Health Care Center and beckoned him home.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Maria Bright, with whom he made his home; his stepdaughters, Purtina Wolf of Richmond, Va. and Lina Bell of Memphis, Tenn.; his son, William Bright III of Youngstown; his stepson, Leonard Simmons of Tampa Bay, Fla.; his brother, James B. Bright; his sister, Betty Peace, both of Youngstown; his aunt, Francis North of Virginia; five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
He was greeted in heaven by his parents; two brothers, Robert D. Bright and the Rev. Theodore Bright; and a brother-in-law, Cohn Peace Sr.
The family will receive friends today, one hour prior to services at the church and at the home of Mrs. Betty Peace, 302 W. Midlothian Blvd.
Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery.

Audrey Nanette (Grossi) Dohar
BOARDMAN Audrey Nanette (Grossi) Dohar passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, peacefully from the arms of her loving family to the arms of our loving God following a long battle with colon cancer.
She was born Aug. 17, 1944 in Youngstown to Aldo and Edith (Kubic) Grossi.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Daniel and Christina Kubic and Fiore and Angelina Grossi; and her brothers/sisters-in-law, Joseph and Eleanor Beshara, Raymond and Evelyn Dohar and Albert and John and Richard Dohar.
Audrey leaves many devoted family members, who celebrate her life and legacy, her husband, Joseph William Dohar of 46 years, (Nov. 10, 1962); their three children (and spouses), Daniel and Lorye Dohar of Vermilion, Daneen and Kevin Biddinger of Ashtabula and Damon and Nicole Dohar of Boardman; her grandchildren, Leisa Lane, Tyler Joseph Dohar, Charlotte Keller (her father, Scott Keller) and Brooke Lynn Dohar; her three great-grandchildren, Kaylan, Mariah and Ashton Lane; her sisters, Gladys Mastrantonio and Don Boyd of Charlotte, N.C. and Elissa and Robert Hassan of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her aunt, Veronica Grossi of Rootstown; her sisters-in-law, Paula, Mary and Beth Dohar; godchildren, Chris Kovalyak, Ryan Mitchell, Dr. Angela Fisher, Dominic Pregi IV and Molly Ceci Salem; her special dear friends, who were supportive as family, Paul and Genevieve Joseph of Austintown and Fred and Marcheta Grossi Kovalyak of Reynoldsville, Pa. She also leaves numerous cousins; 26 nieces and nephews; 49 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 14 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
God allowed Audrey to touch the lives of a multitude of people within and outside of our community in a special way who will miss her loving words and what she did for us all. We will always remember and cherish the time God allowed us to have with her.
Audrey graduated from Youngstown State University with a BSBE, then acquired an MSE also from YSU, all in pursuit of being a teacher to help shape young careers. She also had over 40 hours of additional graduate studies at Kent State University, Akron University and Drake University. Her certifications included Permanent Professional High School grades 7 to 12, Comprehensive Office Education, Computer Science, Intensive Office Education, COOP Office Education and Vocational Office Education. She served as a devoted teacher at Salem High School from 1981 until she had to retire due to her cancer in 2006 (in Business Education, Computers and Computer Technology). While at Salem, Audrey solidified her commitment to the students through such additional roles as Yearbook Advisor, NHS and SCA Advisor, Ohio Office Education Advisor, was a Regional/State/National OEA Competition Advisor, a Business Lector and Representative and served on the School System Technology Advisory Committee from the groups inception. She also worked as an Adjunct Professor at Ashland University in their Technology Department from 2000 to 2006. Of very special note to her commitment in education, she received the 2005 Teacher of the Year Award, was the 1990 recipient of National Awards Program for Teaching High School Economics and the 1981 Outstanding Business Education Award YSU National Business Association Award recipient.
Prior to SHS, Audrey worked in the Career Education department of Boardman High School and student taught at both Canfield High School and MCJVS, worked in the legal department at Youngstown Sheet & Tube; personnel office at the Illuminating Company, was a bookkeeper at Jalco Truck Products and worked as an office manager at Hartford Insurance. Further, she served her church community for several years as a Sunday school teacher; Youth Organization Advisor, Youth Congress Committee member, Church Council member and officer, Education committee member, Church Lector and Marriage Prep Team Leader with St. Maron Church in Youngstown, where she has been a parishioner since her marriage to Joseph in 1962.
Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starrs Centre Dr. in Canfield, and a service of Incense will be held at 7:30 p.m.
She and Joe were also active members in Cursillo since 1975 and there will be a Cursillo Bible Vigil following visitation today.
Friends may also call on Saturday morning at St. Maron Church from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at St. Maron Parish followed by a graveside service at Green Haven Memorial Garden Cemetery, 3495 S. Canfield-Niles Road in Canfield.

Delores Johnson, 82
YOUNGSTOWN Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home Inc. for Delores Johnson, 82, who departed this life on Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at her residence.
Ms. Johnson was born Aug. 13, 1927 in Girard, a daughter of John W. and Margaret Williams Johnson.
She was a homemaker.
She leaves her children, Charlene (Rev. Mack) Thompson, with whom she made her home and William (Janice) Johnson of Tarentum, Pa.; and grandchildren, Jacqueline (Andre) Brown and Kendra (Corneill) Morgan, both of Liberty, Sherrie Johnson of Hopkinsville, Ky., Patrick Thompson of Warren and Stefan and Stephen Thompson, both of Youngstown. She was lovingly called Suga by five great-grandchildren, Kyree and Kyler Morgan, Bryce and Brooklyn Brown and William Johnson. She also leaves a cousin, Carol Akins of Girard.
Her parents; a brother, Kenneth Johnson; a sister, Margaret Johnson; and a cousin, Mamie Freeman, preceded her in death.
Viewing will be from noon to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

George Manolukas, 78
YOUNGSTOWN George Peter Manolukas, 78, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Youngstown on June 26,1931, a son of Peter and Mary (Theophanakis) Manolukas.
He was a 1949 graduate of South High School, where he played football and basketball. He attended Miami University and Kent State University and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity (Zeta Gamma Chapter). He served his country in Asia during the Korean War as a Corporal.
He married the former Dorothy Lardis of Warren in 1954.
He was co-owner of the Central Candy and Cigar Co., Triple M Gift Center and Super Vendors Inc., all of Youngstown. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church, attending St. John's Greek Orthodox Church of Youngstown, serving as Secretary of the Parish Council and member of the choir.
He was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite and Past Master of Hillman Lodge, a member of Ashlar Chapter No. 213 Royal Arch Masons, Buechner Grand Council No. 107 Royal and Select Masons, St. Johns Commandery No. 20 Knights Templar and Al Koran Shriners of Cleveland. He was also a 50-year member of AHEPA, Lincoln Chapter 89, the Eastern Orthodox Mens Society and the Icarian Society.
He retired in 1992, spending time traveling, golfing, watching the Browns and enjoying his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; his son, Dr. Peter Manolukas (Joan) of Beaver Falls, Pa.; his daughter, Marisa Gallaher (Patrick) of Wilmington, N.C.; his grandchildren, Despina, George, Emmanuel and Alexander Manolukas and Stephanie and Christopher Gallaher; his brother, Theodore Manolukas (Darlene) of Youngstown; and brother-in-law, George Lardis (Dorothy) of Warren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Odyssey Hospice, Drs. Tim Jackson, Robert Madder and Brian Everhart, the staff at TriState Medical Group and Dr. Sean Lyden of the Cleveland Clinic.

AUSTINTOWN - Joseph S. Martin, 59, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 1, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center following a lengthy illness.
Joseph was born May 25, 1950 in Youngstown, a son of the late John and Helen Markovich Martin, and was a lifelong area resident.
He had worked for Quality Waterproofing and Olberg Manufaturing.
Mr. Martin leaves three brothers, John (Gail) Martin of Lake Milton, Robert (Mary) Martin of Youngstown and George (Gladys) Martin of Mineral Ridge; a sister, Donna (George) Bodajlo of Niles; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul M. Pete Paglia, 55
AUSTINTOWN There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Wickliffe Presbyterian Church, 45 Idlewood Ave. in Austintown, for Paul M. Pete Paglia, 55, who passed away Monday at Meridian Arms Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Pete was born Nov. 23, 1953 in Youngstown, a son of Paul and LaVerne A. (Wilding) Paglia.
A graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, Pete owned Austintown Records and Tape, and had worked for Wean United, Reese Industries, and had driven school buses for Liberty Local Schools.
Pete also operated Pete the Music Man DJ Service. He had a great sense of humor, loved nature and animals, but most of all, he was a devoted son to his mother and family. Together they enjoyed going daily to Mill Creek Park and looking at the ducks.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Pete is survived by his mother; a sister, Linda Driscoll of Ashtabula; and two brothers, Russell and James Paglia, both of Austintown.
He was preceded in death by his father.

YOUNGSTOWN Gary W. Sharp Sr., 58, passed away Wednesday at his home.
He was born April 6, 1951 in Youngstown, the son of Willie R. and Mary Louise West Sharp.
He was a graduate of North High School and was employed at Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority for 12 years as a mechanic, retiring in 2000. Mr. Sharp was a Master Mason with the Tommie Warren Lodge No. 5 and also a member of St. Patrick Church of Youngstown.
Mr. Sharp is survived by his wife, the former Debra Richardson, whom he married Feb. 15, 1973; two sons, Gary (Rebekah) Sharp Jr. and Robert Sharp, both of Greensburg, Pa.; four daughters, Tammy L Thomas of Youngstown, Sabrina Grayson of California, Sophia Sharp of Brooklyn N.Y. and Angela (Eric) Purdue-Wainwright of Indianapolis; one sister, Vivian (Oscar) Sharp Brown; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Sharp.

HUBBARD There will be services at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for Kenneth D. Smith, 53, known as Doug, who passed away Monday at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Kenneth was born Jan. 21, 1956 in Westfield, N.Y., a son of Claude Smith and Mary Parks Smith Mortimer. He came to Hubbard in 1986.
He was a diesel mechanic and owner of Smith Truck Service, and was an over the road truck driver for OEX for many years.
He enjoyed dirt track racing, playing pool, and spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves his children, Shane Silliman of Jamestown, N.Y., Kevina Smith and Katie Smith, both of Hubbard and Amanda Smith of Girard; five grandchildren; and his mother, Mary Mortimer of Colorado Springs, Colo.
He also leaves his life companion, Terri Patten Maynard of Hubbard.
He also is survived by his siblings, Randi Robbins of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Michael (Kim) Smith of Hubbard, Cindy (Ed) LaFine of Colorado Springs and Melinda (Byron) Hayward of Cassiadaga, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Edna Edie Starnes, 80
BROOKFIELD Edna Edie Starnes, 80, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 2, 2009, at OBrien Memorial Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 11, 1928 in Italy, a daughter of John and Mary Theodore DiVirgilio and had lived in the area for 62 years, coming from Jeanette, Pa.
Mrs. Starnes was a foreman for Packard Electric for 28 years. She was of the Catholic faith, was an avid golfer and loved traveling.
She leaves three sons, Robert Adamrovich of Wooster, George (Cathy) Adamrovich of Hubbard and Michael Toda of Hubbard; a daughter, Maria Taylor of Mantua; four sisters, Lisa Terpko of Jeanette, Theresa Vargo of Port Orange, Fla, Millie (Jimmy) Cappa of Export, Pa. and Gerri (Baldo) of Delmont, Pa ; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Sam and Robert DiVirgilio.
