James H. Baharis, 77

CANFIELD – Private services were held Friday at Belmont Park Cemetery for James H. Baharis, 77, who died Sunday.

Mr. Baharis was born Feb. 29, 1932 in Youngstown, a son of Samuel and Ethel Haidos Baharis.

He attended Youngstown State University and had been a supervisor at Aeroquip.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Baharis.

He leaves a son, Scott Baharis, and a daughter, Andrea Foster, both of Columbus; a sister, Anita Jones of Canfield; a brother, Christopher Baharis of Michigan; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Alex.

There were no calling hours.

Arrangements were handled by the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.

Michael J. Birmingham, 49

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. – A memorial celebration will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center in Austintown on Wednesday, Sept. 9, for Michael J. Birmingham, formerly of Austintown, who passed away on Aug. 23, 2009. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a reception with family and friends.


Arada B. Blauser, 95

YOUNGSTOWN – Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 20, 2009, at Park Vista Retirement Community for Arada B. Franklin Blauser, 95, formerly of Boardman. She passed away Tuesday at Park Vista.

Mrs. Blauser was born Oct. 17, 1913, in Youngstown, a daughter of Earl W. and Maude Solomon Jenkins.

She graduated from South High School and had worked as a dental assistant for Dr. J. Snap, Dr. Kenneth Latimer and Dr. Cecil Harder. She was a member of Junior DeNova Federated Club of Youngstown for over 60 years and of the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church for 83 years, where she was a deacon and member of the original Friendship Class. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and flowers.

Arada’s first husband, DeWitt “Dewey” Franklin, whom she married July of 1938, died in May of 1973, and her second husband, Emerson P. Blauser, whom she married Nov. of 1980, died Feb. 25, 2005.

Surviving her are cousins F. Betty Rhodes, Joyce Brown and Virginia Snyder, all of Maryland, and Frances McGirr of Florida ,and a nephew, James Franklin of Canfield.

Preceding her in death besides her husbands and parents was a brother, E. Wayne Jenkins.

Jack N. Daugherty Sr., 80

GIRARD – Jack N. Daugherty Sr., 80, passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Omni Manor Nursing Home.

Jack was born Oct. 14, 1928, to the late Raymond and Dora Zeller Daugherty in Columbiana.

He worked 30 years as a craneman for U.S. Steel in McDonald. He was a member of St. Rose Church, former member of the Elks Lodge, the Old Timers, member of Girard Fraternal Order of Eagles and a former Scout Master for many years, he enjoyed photography, gardening and spending time at Mill Creek Park.

He is survived by his wife, the former Carmella Delores Emanuel, whom he married April 29, 1950; his son, Jack (Janis) of Youngstown, two sisters, Betty and Kathy; a brother, Robert; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Marge Daugherty.

Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home, where visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Internment will be at Girard City Cemetery.

James Dunn, 79

COLUMBIANA – Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman for James Dunn, 79, formerly of Florida and Youngstown, who died Thursday evening at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Jim was born March 17, 1930, in Youngstown, the son of Thomas M. and Jessie Russo Dunn.

After graduating from South High School in 1950, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had worked as a brick layer for the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Corporation for over 27 years, retiring in 1994. He had served as the Vice President of United Steel Workers Union Local No. 2163, and had served as the administrator of Labor relations for Youngstown Mayor Phillip Richley’s administration. He also served as a Bailiff for the 7th District Court of Appeals. In addition to his labor leadership and civil service, Mr. Dunn also was the owner/operator of Cottage Grove Pizza in Youngstown.

He was a former member of St. Dominic Church, the Bishop Malone 4th Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus, and the Bears Club, and Sebring Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, the former June Woodword, whom he married July 17, 1953; a daughter, Kathleen Marie (Gary) Smith of Mars, Pa.; two sons, Steven (Jenny) Dunn of Canfield and Kevin (Michelle) Dunn of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Pat (Chet) Fickes of Boardman; two brothers, Martin Dunn of Youngstown and John Dunn of Boardman; eight grandchildren, Nick Dunn, Devlin Dunn, Dalanie Dunn, Mallory, Carroll, Garrett and Maddie Smith, and Corey Fusco; a great-grandchild, Rosalie Kathleen Adams; and his dog, Beau.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of donations to Angels for Animals.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at St. Charles Church.

Bruce Elmer Findley, 81

LORAIN – Bruce Elmer Findley, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, surrounded by his family at his home following a 10-month illness.

He was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Johnstown, Pa., and has made his home in Lorain since 1958.

Bruce was employed with the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1987 as plant supervisor. He was a member of Church on the North Coast in Lorain. His hobbies included working crossword puzzles, listening to country music, camping, and dancing.

A skilled woodworker, he loved making coat racks and kitchen wares. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and his cat, Patches, and his dog, Lilli.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Deanna Ruth (Edwards) Findley; his sons, Larry B. Findley and wife Sue, and Glen R. Findley, all of Lorain; his daughters, Judy Larson and husband Avery of Lorain, Debbie Clark and husband Gary of Monroe, Mich., and Terri Imbrogno and husband Ed of Amherst; his stepsons, Robert L. McFall of Mt. Grove, Mo., and Paul F. “Ricky” McFall Jr and wife LiHua of North Carolina; his stepdaughter, Kelly A. Altman and husband Matt of Jacksonville, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Elsie Mae Smith of Port Richie, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jane (Higgins) Findley, in March of 1983; by his stepdaughter, Kim A. Shiderly in 1983; by his parents, George and Sophia (Reitler) Findley; by his brother, George Findley Jr.; and by his sister Grace Zingleman.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave. in Amherst.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Louis Kayatin, pastor of Church on the North Coast in Lorain, officiating.

Burial will be Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in New Bedford, Pa.

Eugene Kleinhandler, 80


CANFIELD – Eugene Kleinhandler, 80, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Emanuel Kleinhandler and Birdie (Blumberg) Kleinhandler.

Gene retired from the Hudson Nut & Bolt Co. in 1991, a family business he had inherited and successfully led for 35 years. Gene was a veteran of both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He loved life and had a great sense of humor that many will remember him for. He loved his Joycie Wray. He enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with his family and friends.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Joyce (Wray) Kleinhandler of London, England, whom he married on March 28, 1958; his four daughters, Michelle Miller of Canfield, Lisa Kleinhandler of Canfield, Jocelyn Mack of Tampa, Fla. and Paula Friedman of Merrick, N.Y.; and his five grandchildren, Miles Miller, Max Friedman, Elizabeth Genoa, Cassidy Friedman and James Mack. He is also survived by his sister, Audrey Glanzbergh of Boynton Beach, Fla.

Services were held at the Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home in Youngstown on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at 2 p.m.

Thomas Robert Lazich, 78

CAMPBELL – Thomas Robert Lazich, 78, passed away peacefully Friday morning, Sept. 4, 2009, at his home.

Thomas, who was known to all as “Bob,” was born Feb. 28, 1931, in Campbell, a son of the late Victor and Antonia Pavlis Lazich, and was a lifelong Campbell resident.

He worked for the City of Campbell Water Department for 31 years before retiring on disability in 1991.

Bob was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Lazich leaves his wife of 35 years, Evelyn Barbero Lazich; his son, Thomas R. Lazich Jr. of Struthers; twin daughters, Evelyn Lazich (fiance John Payton) of Shaker Heights and Robyn Lazich at home; stepchildren Kathi (Jim) Klimis of Boardman, Christine (Scott) Bonamase of Cleveland and William (Genet) Van Such of Las Vegas; six grandchildren, Frankie, Nicole, Alex, Brooke, Isabelle and Madison; a great-granddaughter, Giana; a sister, Donna Szilagy of Campbell; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ten brothers and sisters are deceased, including Victor, George, William, and Daniel Lazich, Anna Graban, and his twin Betty Luther.

Private funeral services were held on Friday by the Rev. Basil Marchak.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.

Rose M. Naples, 90

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Christine Church in Youngstown with the Rev. Kevin Peters officiating for Rose M. Naples, 90, who peacefully passed away Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 2, 2009, with her loving family by her side.

Rose will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends.

She was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Youngstown, the daughter of Frank and Julia (Rondinelli) Ciminelli, and was a lifelong area resident.

Rose was employed at Gray’s Drug Store as a clerk, along with being a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Christine Church and the Sacred Heart Society.

Rose truly enjoyed bowling and dancing, but she especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Her husband, Lawrence J. Naples, whom she married July 12, 1941, died Jan. 3, 1978.

She leaves behind to hold onto her memories, her three daughters, Loraine Naples Liberato of Poland, Sandra (Ronald) McGowen of Boardman and Linda Naples of Youngstown; a granddaughter, Lauren McGowen of Boardman; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Rose was preceded in death by three brothers, Ted, Joseph and Louis Ciminelli, and a sister, Mary Guido.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. at St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave. in Youngstown.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

John C. Pellice Jr., 31

NEW MIDDLETOWN – John C. Pellice Jr., 31, died Sept. 3, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center from liver cancer.

John was born Sept. 25, 1977, in Youngstown, the son of John and Mariann Bokros Pellice Sr. He was raised in Struthers and moved to New Middletown a year ago.

He was a 1996 graduate of Struthers High School. John worked in construction for Newton Square Construction, now called Preferred Communities, and alongside his father at Double JJ Construction.

John’s hobbies included golfing, fishing, camping, going to car shows, and rooting the Pittsburgh Steelers on. He was a member of the Holy Family Church in Poland.

Besides his parents of Struthers, he leaves his wife, the former Kelly Hird, whom he married Oct. 12, 2002; daughter Kaitlyn Pellice at home; his son or daughter who is expected in two weeks; sister Angela Pellice of Struthers; maternal grandparents Ed and Carmella Bokros of Struthers; and mother-in-law Valarie McGahan of Struthers.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Anthony H. and Mary Theresa Pellice.

Services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral in Poland and at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church.

Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jose L. Quintana, 30

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Wasko Funeral Home and at 1 p.m. at the Christ Community Church with the Rev. William Rotar officiating, for Jose L. Quintana, 30, who passed away Friday morning at the Hospice House with his family by his side.

Jose was born Dec. 13, 1978 in Long Island, N.Y., the son of Julio and Ludaeina Cruz Reyes.

Jose was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He touched the lives of so many. He will be missed and loved forever. He is now in God’s loving arms with loved ones that went before him.

He was a 1998 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and was currently attending Youngstown State University.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Julio and Ludaeina Cruz Reyes and Jose and Maria Quintana; grandparents Melquiades and Andrea Resto Cruz and Wilfredo Cortes; brothers and sisters, Meleina, Luis and Karen Quintana, Julio Jr., Alexis and Joel Reyes, Jenny Ferrera, Lisa Estrada, Eliana Torres and Evanilda Colon and his love, Elisa Hernandez; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Corinne Quintana; a nephew, Luis Manuel Velez; and his grandmother, Carmen Rodriguez.

The Quintana family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends Monday evening from 2 to 7 p.m.

Robert “Pepsi” L. Shaw, 59

HUBBARD – Robert “Pepsi” L. Shaw, 59, died Friday evening, Sept. 4, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 30, 1949, in Clarksburg, W.Va., a son of David H. Sr. and Netabelle Poole Shaw, and lived most of his life in Hubbard.

He worked for Prout Boiler and Welding for many years before becoming disabled.

Bob enjoyed shooting pool and was a member of the APA Pool League and the BCA Pool League. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 3767 of Hubbard, enjoyed NASCAR and loved his dogs.

Pepsi had a passion for remodeling his home, old cars and his ’55 Chevy that he was always working on.

A 1969 graduate of Hubbard High School, he served with the U.S. Army, where he was an instructor for refrigeration and air conditioning.

He leaves his wife, the former Linda J. Sargent, whom he married Nov. 27, 1981; two daughters, Allyson Shaw of Hubbard and Michelle (Mike) Woloschak of Youngstown; a brother, William Poole of Lakeland, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Summer and Michael Woloschak.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David Shaw Jr.; and a sister, Linda Shaw.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home.

Flossy Carol Traylor, 53

YOUNGSTOWN – Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, 312 E. Locust St. in Clearfield, Pa., for Flossy Carol Traylor, 53, of Youngstown, who passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Flossy Carol Traylor was born Nov. 23, 1955, in Clearfield, Pa., a daughter of Howard F. and Caroline Warren Hull.

She worked very hard throughout her life, until disabled and did whatever it took to make ends meet for her children. She was a dedicated and devoted mother that words could never describe. She spent her last days here on earth as a wonderful homemaker.

She was an avid fan of the Steelers and loved to dine out at Bob Evans. She enjoyed watching good shows on CBS. She never wanted or needed much in her life as long as she had her family. She will be missed so much and her family will not be whole until we are all together again. Her children and grandchildren were her whole world as she was theirs.

She is survived by her son, Edward Traylor Jr.; two daughters, Tracy Lynn Traylor and Tonya Denise Woods; a daughter-in-law, Ashlee Mae Rovnyak; and a stepson, Curtis D. Woods, all of Youngstown. She only had one sibling, a brother, Willis L. Hull of Clearfield. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Brecae Hughes, Jaylen Woods, Emmanuwell A. Traylor and Curtis D. Woods. She had many nieces and nephews of her hometown.

“She will never be forgotten.”

Barbara L. Uber, 77

FT. MYERS, FLA. – Barbara L. Uber, 77, formerly of Canfield, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at her home in Ft. Myers on Aug. 5, 2009.

Barbara was born Dec. 6, 1931 in Dillon, S.C., the daughter of Mary and Dewey Stanton.

After graduation from Zion High School, she came to Youngstown, where she met her husband, John. They married at St. Patrick’s Church on Sept. 15, 1951.

She was a secretary for several dentists before working at Northside and Southside Hospitals until her retirement in 1989. Barbara and John “Jack” then moved to Ft. Myers in 1989. While there, she worked for Winn-Dixie and Publix grocery stores part-time until June of 2008.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, John, of Ft. Myers. She also leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Carolyn (Jerry) Stoneburner and Jeffrey Uber of Canfield, R. Scott (Michele) Uber of Gahanna and Sherri (Tom) Leonard of Springboro; 10 grandchildren, Kitty Stoneburner (Ken Abdalla) of Pacific Palisades, Calif., Lee (Katherine) Stoneburner of Canfield, Mathew (Robyn) Uber of Olmsted Falls, Stacey (Mike) Drozda of Aurora, Adam and Jacob Ferrara of Wellington, Fla., Nathan and Alexa Uber of Gahanna and Bradley and Nicole Leonard of Springboro; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are four sisters, Janette Amspacher, Bobbie Jean Huggins, Rosemary Buffkin and Edna Willoughby and two brothers, Richard Stanton and James Stanton.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret and Carolyn Stanton; and two brothers, Dewey Jr. and Douglas Stanton.

Arrangements were handled by the Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road in Canfield.

Deborah (Cole) Valentino, 45

STRUTHERS - There will be funeral services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman with Pastor Nathan Doyle, of Glenwood Christian Fellowship Church, celebrating for Deborah (Cole) Valentino, 45, who passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, after a long battle with lung disease.

Deborah was born Oct. 30, 1963, in Youngstown, the daughter of Jim and Ester (Swiger) Cole.

Deborah was a wonderful homemaker. She loved playing bingo and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Deborah will always be remembered by her father, Jim Cole of Youngstown; her three daughters, Amy (Joshua) Hoffman of Struthers, Maria (Louis Slepski) Raymond of Boardman, and Cynthia (Dave Dicioccio) Raymond of Leetonia; her son, Ricky Raymond of Struthers; four grandchildren, Derek, Alycia, Haley and Ricky III; two sisters, Pam Durkin and Kim Cole; and her brother, Timothy Cole.

Besides her mother, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Cole, and her twin brother, Douglas Cole.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 and from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9, prior to the services at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue. in Boardman.

Gladys Ruth Gordon Williams

DOUGLASVILLE, GA. – Gladys Ruth Gordon Williams was born on Oct. 26, 1945 in Youngstown to the late Maceo Gordon and Mary Gordon Taylor. She lived much of her adult live in Cleveland where she raised a son and cultivated many professional and personal relationships.

Gladys attended public school in Youngstown and graduated from South High School in 1963. She attended Youngstown State University, where she later became a member of the staff. Gladys medically retired from the Ohio Turnpike System in 1994 after many years of service. In 1999, she moved to Atlanta to be near her son, Earl.

Gladys enjoyed and celebrated life. She never met a stranger. Perhaps her greatest attribute was her love for life, which she lived to the fullest. She was very outgoing and always in the center of the conversation. She loved traveling and playing games where she marveled at the thrill of victory. She was dearly loved by her friends and family alike.

Gladys leaves to cherish precious memories, her mother, Mary Gordon Taylor of Atlanta; son, Earl Williams II of Atlanta; two brothers, Eddie Gordon of Atlanta and Prentis Taylor of Youngstown; special uncle and aunt, Nathaniel and Anna Biggins of Youngstown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
