Paul Barnes Van Auker, 95
LUSBY, MD. Paul Barnes Van Auker, 95, departed this life peacefully on Sept. 8, 2009, at Solomons Nursing Center in Solomons, Md.
He was born in Ohio on June 6, 1914 to the late Minnie Barnes Van Auker and Jasper Newton Van Auker.
He was the beloved father of Joseph W. Van Auker of Lusby and Paula Gresh of Cartersville, Ga.; stepfather of Joann Theys of Warren and the late James Ricks and Leneah Soltis; and brother of Alfred Van Auker of Los Angeles. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Van Auker served his country during World War II and was discharged as a Captain on Dec. 17, 1945 at Camp Chaffee, Ark. Paul was a steelworker and worked at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. until his retirement in 1967. He moved to Calvert County in 2002 to reside with his son.
Paul led a life of determination and generosity. He worked those characteristics into his life as a handyman doing whatever was needed on any of his automobiles or projects around the house. He was a devoted reader and a baseball fan. He loved to watch the baseball games on television but he liked to turn down the volume and listen to the game on his radio. He will be remembered for his colorful gardens and to his devotion of his families genealogy and their history.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Middleham Chapel Episcopal Parrish, 10210 H. G. Trueman Road, Lusby, MD 20657.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 11:30 a.m. at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.

Walter E. Cleland Sr., 89
OXFORD, MISS. Mr. Walter E. Cleland Sr. 89, a supervisor with Republic Steel Corporation, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be today, Sept. 11, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Semmes and the Rev. Jonathan Scanlon officiating.
Burial will follow at Oxford Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Waller Funeral Home.

Mr. Cleland was born in Youngstown on Feb. 15, 1920 to Margaret Ramage and Walter Lewis Cleland.
He served as 1st Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, 32nd degree.
Survivors include his wife, Alice E. Cleland of Oxford; a daughter, Rebecca Louise Fleury and her husband, Thomas of Sarasota, Fla.; and one son, Walter E. Cleland Jr. of Oxford.
In honor of Mr. Clelands service to his country, the flag of the U.S. Army will fly at the Waller Funeral Home.

Mario A. Marty Fiorenzo, 77
NILES Mario A. Marty Fiorenzo, 77, of 411 Lafayette Ave., passed away at 3:56 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
He was born Sept. 18, 1931 in Niles, the son of Louis and Ernestine Riccuilli Fiorenzo.
Mario was a 1949 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, a 1960 graduate of Youngstown College with a degree in Accounting, and owned and operated his own accounting practice in Austintown for 40 years, before retiring in 2000.
He was a member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, former member of the Ohio Society of Public Accountants, the National Society of Public Accountants, the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Enrolled Agents of Ohio.
He was an avid antique car enthusiast, who owned a 1949 silver Chrysler, enjoyed big band music, good Italian Food, an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan, and enjoyed watching his grandson play for the Niles McKinley Red Dragons.
Mario served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, having been stationed in Japan.
Mario who said Life is uncertain, eat dessert first will be deeply missed by his wife, Elizabeth Kudary Fiorenzo, whom he married July 12, 1952; two daughters, Vikki Wolf of Austintown and Judy Hurton of Niles; a grandson, Daniel Hurton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Fiorenzo and Phillip Fiorenzo; and a sister, Rose Fiorenzo.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where the Mt. Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 6:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mt. Carmel Church in Niles, with Fr. Larry Frient officiating, preceded by a 9 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.

Rosemary Fleming, 91
BOARDMAN - Prayers will begin Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church for Rosemary Fleming, 91, who died Wednesday evening at her home.
Rosemary was born Oct. 18, 1917 in Youngstown, the daughter of J.V. and Mary Carney McNicholas.
She was a 1934 graduate of Ursuline High School and later graduated from Youngstown College. She had worked as an administrative assistant at the Charles F. Owsley Architectural firm before getting married and raising her family.
Rosemary was a member of St. Charles Church and its Altar & Rosary Society for over 60 years. As part of her service to her faith and our community, Mrs Fleming was a member of Junior Seton, served as a board member and treasurer of Birth Right, board member and former president of Assumption Nursing Home, was a member of the first board of the Millcreek Childrens Center and was later named a lifetime board member for her service. She also served on the board of the Catholic Service League, the Advisory Board of the Ursuline Sisters, where she was a member of its Century Club in support of many of its ministries, including Beatitude House, and for over 25 years she organized over 40 volunteers weekly to distribute Meals on Wheels. In recognition of her service to our community, she was nominated the YWCA Woman of the Year.
Her husband, Donald Joseph Fleming whom she married Jan. 25, 1947, died Nov. 22, 1974.
She is survived by her children, Catherine Murphy (Dick) Urmann of Tampa, Fla.; D. Joseph (Mary Ellen) Fleming of Poland, Thomas (Mary) Fleming of Canfield and James Motters of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Michael and Kevin Fleming, Lori Constantini, Scott Fleming, Julie Gay and Geoffrey Fleming; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, including her niece, Mary Rita (Tom) Carney of Boardman.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Henry and Paul McNicholas.

Sandra Lee Sandy Frank, 69
YOUNGSTOWN Sandra Lee Sandy Frank, 69, of the citys west side, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family, following a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimers.
Sandra was born Nov. 13, 1939, in Akron, a daughter of the late Frank and Veronica Belcich, and came to this area in 1959.
Deeply committed to the Catholic faith in which she was raised, Sandy attended St. Johns Elementary School and St. Marys High School in Akron, graduating in 1957. Sandy enjoyed her high school years, serving as class secretary and being elected Homecoming Queen. After graduation, Sandy worked for a time as a dental assistant in Akron.
At St. Marys, she met her husband, Franklin Butch Frank, whom she married July 18, 1959, and with whom she recently celebrated 50 years of marriage with the couples family
Sandy was a long-time member of St. Brendans Church in Youngstown, where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and was an active supporter of the school.
Sandy dedicated her life to raising her seven children and running her familys household. Stephanie (Mike) Meinzer of Sandusky, Ursula (Bill) Scheetz of North Lima, Angela (Ron) Heim of Hudson, Milissa (Lou) DeLuca of Poland, Brian (Patty) Frank of Hudson, Christopher (Michelle Markota) Frank of Boardman and Sarah Frank of Marion were blessed to have the benefit of their mothers time and talents during their years growing up on the west side of Youngstown. Sandy also cherished her role as Bubba, to her 14 grandchildren, Abigail and Augustine Meinzer, Jessica, Victoria and Nicholas Scheetz, Stephen and Samantha Heim, Harrison DeLuca, Camden, Peyton and Addison Frank and Sabrina, Zoe and Brady Frank. She was a loving sister to Barbara (Jim) Braccio and Janet Tipton, and sister-in-law to Beverly Welsh, Peter and Carol Frank, Jennette Drahuschak, Harry and Diane Frank, John and Mij Zidian, and Tim and Jennifer Frank. She was proud to be Aunt Sandy to 19 nieces and nephews.
Sandy will be remembered for her infectious laugh and as a protector of children, especially her own. Sandy never met a stranger, because her friendly demeanor and outgoing personality endeared her to all she met. She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed working in her garden.
She was preceded in death by an infant son; her in-laws, Franklin and Mildred Frank; and brothers-in-law Martin Welsh and Richard Drahuschak.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown, where the Altar & Rosary Society will conduct a prayer service at 3:45 p.m.

Mary Lou Gartland, 97
BOARDMAN Services will be at 12:15 p.m. Monday at the McCauley Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Dominic Church for Mary Lou Gartland, 97, who passed Wednesday evening at Shepherd of the Valley.
Miss Gartland was born Aug. 12, 1912 in Youngstown, a daughter of Eugene M. and Margaret Barrett Gartland and was a lifelong member of the community.
Miss Gartland was in the billing department and a secretary at the Isalys Dairy from 1932 until its closing in 1970. She then was employed by Morris Sports as the office manager from 1970 until her retirement in 1981.
Miss Gartland was a member of the church, its Altar and Rosary Society, member of American Business Womens Association-Mill Creek Chapter, was a participant in the first Womens Cursillo in the diocese, enjoyed needlework, as an avid bridge player, who recently developed a fondess for poker. She was a 1930 graduate of Ursuline High School.
Miss Gartland is survived by several cousins.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene F. Gartland, who died in combat during World War II; sisters, Mrs. Jane LaCelle and Miss Margaret Gartland.

LEAVITTSBURG Edward E. Glazewski Sr., passed to eternal rest on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at his residence.
Edward was born on July 8, 1924 in Pittsburgh, the son of Stanley and Maryanna Glazewski. His family relocated to this area when Edward was a child.
Edward was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a bus driver for the Youngstown Transit and was also employed at United Engineering in Youngstown. He had been a 45 year member of AA.
His caring family, his son and daughter-in-law, Edward Jr. and Leanne of Cortland and his daughter, Gwen of Cleveland, will carry on memories of Edward.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary; his second wife, Evelyn; his brother; and his three sisters.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Crown Hill Burial Park Chapel with Pastor John Talkington officiating.
Edward will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.

YOUNGSTOWN Jimmie James Sr., 75, of 104 Greeley Lane, departed this life Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009.
He was born Dec. 10, 1933 in Furman, Ala., the son of Jesse and Ida Bell Watts James Sr., coming to this area in 1971.
He was the owner/operator of East Side Lawn Mower Shop for 30 years, after retiring in 1977 from Youngstown Sheet and Tube. He was a 1956 graduate of Snow Hill Institute, graduated from New Castle School of Trades and served in the U.S. Army for two years as a Private 1st Class.
Mr. James attended the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and enjoyed family and friends.
He married the former Alice N. Clopton on Sept. 5, 2003.
Besides his wife of Youngstown, he leaves to mourn, five daughters, Ms. Jennifer Sims of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Chea (Robert) Mosley of Pensacola, Fla., Mrs. Brenda (Curtis) Talley of Saginaw, Mich., Mrs. Frances (Jiles) Williams of Pensacola and Mrs. Vera (Jermaine) Rigsby of Arlington, Texas; three brothers, Jesse James Jr. of Minnesota, Roy James of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Willie Edward James of Furman, Ala.; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Morast of Brooklyn and Mrs. Hester Fish of Queens, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmie James Jr. and two sisters, Mary Purifoy and Sarah Inman.

Paul J. Jurko, 73
YANKEE LAKE Paul J. Jurko, 73, died on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland.
Mr. Jurko was born on July 30, 1936, in Sharon, Pa., a son of Paul and Valeria (Todut) Jurko.
He attended the Admiral Farragut Naval Academy On Bocca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla., and was a 1954 graduate of Brookfield High School. He attended the Virginia Military Institute and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Following his graduation, Paul had a varied work career beginning as a High School Science Instructor and working in the aerospace industry. He also spent time in multi-residential property management, screen testing for the movies, and had spent many years in general management with the family owned business at Yankee Lake. Later he was a Trumbull County Court Clerk for both the Domestic and Child Support Courts before his retirement in 2005.
Mr. Jurko was a member of the American Legion Post No. 299 in Sharon, Pa., and the Ohio National Guard. He also enjoyed raising successful Trotter Race horses, hunting, fishing, swimming and golfing. He traveled extensively with his family and friends and enjoyed entertaining them. He was a renowned chef to his friends and family.
Mr. Jurko leaves behind his wife, the former Deborah A. Stumpo, who he married Oct. 26, 1987; his two daughters, Jennifer Jones of Denver and Kim LeBlanc of Mesa, Ariz.; his brother, John Jurko and his wife, Geri of Yankee Lake; his sister, Paula Manilla and her husband, Jack of Saint Johns, Fla.; granddaughter, Jennifer Jefferys; and his adopted cat, Mr. Pepper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Valeria Jurko and by his son, Jeffrey Jurko.
Calling hours will be held today, Sept. 11, 2009, at the Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel in Brookfield, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Private family funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at the funeral home.

Joseph Joe W. Krispinsky, 91
BUTLER, PA. Joseph Joe W. Krispinsky, 91, formerly of 1960 Shadyside Drive in Hermitage, Pa., died early Wednesday morning, Sept. 2, 2009, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Butler, after a long illness.
Mr. Krispinsky was born Feb. 11, 1918 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Katherine Illenic Krispinsky.
Joe attended Youngstown schools and was a member of the Faith Presbyterian Church in Hermitage. He loved the game of golf and had scored several holes-in-one during his career. He had been employed for 30 years by the U.S. Postal Service in Farrell, Pa., as a letter carrier, retiring in 1979. Joe served his country in the Army as a Corporal in North Africa during World War II.
His wife, the former Anna Banjak, whom he married Sept. 21, 1944, died Sept. 29, 2001.
Surviving are two sons, Bernard Bernie J. Krispinsky and his wife, Dianne of Hermitage and David G. Krispinsky and his wife, Debbie of Rochester, N.Y.; a sister, Katherine Bobac of Poland; two brothers, Anthony Krispinsky and his wife, Helen of Austintown and George Krispinsky and his wife, Maxine of Detroit; and his grandchildren, B. Jordan, Shae B. and David Krispinsky.
Besides his wife, Joe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Frank and Bernard Krispinsky.

LAKE WORTH, FLA. Cherished husband, loving father and grandfather, Nicholas J. Pavlic Jr. (Pavlakovic), 63, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009.
His love for his family, friends, streetrods plus his ability to Fix it all were among many of his attributes.
His love, friendship and talents will be missed tremendously.

Lathen Rhuben Smith, 73
NILES Services will be Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Lathen Rhuben Smith, 73, who entered eternal life on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009.
Mr. Smith was born May 21, 1936 in Gadsden, Ala., a son of Rhuben and Georgia Moore Smith, coming to this area in 1965.
He had been employed with Easco Aluminum (now known as Indalex) for 37 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as organist and was a Sunday school teacher.
A musician for many years, Lathen formerly served as an organist for St. Peters Baptist Church, the Holy Trinity Baptist Church in Youngstown, and the Progressive Baptist Church in Warren.
He leaves to cherish his beloved memory, his devoted wife, the former Elaine Chislom, whom he married July 21 1996; a daughter, Angela Betts of Niles; six grandchildren; a goddaughter, Brianna Marks of Warren; and a host of family and friends, including his nephew, Randy (Sheila) Duckett of Gadsden, who was very close to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, who reared him from an early age after the death of his parents, John and Mary Huff; and his sister, Gerline Smith Duckett.

Together Again
YOUNGSTOWN There will be funeral services at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman with Pastor Michael McKale of the Lockwood United Methodist Church, celebrating for Charles L. Storey Sr., 78, who passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 9.
Charles was born Aug. 8, 1931 in Youngstown, the son of Howard and Luinea (Nystrom) Storey.
He was employed at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube as a straightener operator. Charles proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a fan of Cleveland sports and Ohio State. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
His wife, the former Caroline Canfield, whom he was married to for 53 years, passed away March 28, 2007.
Charles will always be remembered by his five children, Debra (John) Protain of Champion, Linda (Mike) Williams of Boardman, Patricia (Joe) Mays of Youngstown, Diana L. Storey of Youngstown and Charles L. Jr. (Melissa Hearn) Storey of Youngstown; 12 grandchildren, Stacey (Dave) Hill, Joey Williams, Kim (Tom) Strimple, Randi (Matt) McElhinny, David (Sabrina Smith) Storey, Heather (Charlie) Thomas, Kristy Protain, Christopher Protain, April Storey, Brandy (Joe) Jones, Sierra Storey and Chace Storey; 14 great-grandchildren, David, Patrick, Jacob, Emily, Braydon, Jordan, Breanna, Erilynn, Taylor, Madison, Joey, Caitlyn, Branden and Brianna; and two brothers, Carl Storey and Howard Storey.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Storey; and sister, Evelyn Laskey.

YOUNGSTOWN Services will be Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Tyreece DWayne Walker, 17, who departed this life Sept. 5, 2009 at Akron Childrens Hospital.
Tyreece, lovingly known by his friends as Reece, was born April 3, 1992 in Youngstown, a son of DWayne Branson and Renee Walker.
He was an 11th grade student at East High School. Tyreece was a fun loving person, who was full of life, bringing so much joy, laughter and love to everyone around him.
Tyreece leaves to cherish his beloved memories, his mother, Renee Lady Walker and father, DWayne Branson of St. Paul, Minn.; an aunt, Regina Walker, whom he considered his Mommy and who reared him, his only sister, Quiara Walker and an aunt, DeAdrian Pookie, all of Youngstown; an uncle, Kenneth Stokes of Hazelcrest, Ill.; one nephew, QueShawn Walker, whom he was very proud of; and a host of cousins and friends.
His grandmother, Deloris Walker and uncle, Clayton Walker, preceded him in death.
Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
