Angeline C. Ameduri, 89
MARIETTA, GA. Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Kubina-Yuhasz Funeral Home, 5925 Market St. in Boardman, for Angeline C. Ameduri, 89, formerly of Youngstown, who passed away the afternoon of Sept. 11, 2009.
Angeline was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Girard, a daughter of Joseph and Julia Laurde Perry.
She was a homemaker.
Angeline was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic Ameduri, who died Feb. 9, 2004; her brother, Joseph Perry; and sister Beatrice Sutherland.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Barbara Fargo of Marietta, and her grandson Michael Gassney, also of Marietta.
Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

James H. Brahney
PITTSBURGH, PA. Retired Air Force Lt. Colonel James H. Brahney died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009.
He was born in Youngstown on Nov. 7, 1939.
Brahney was a 1962 graduate of Youngstown State University, where he earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He was also a graduate of Ursuline High School and Immaculate Conception Grade School. Brahney served a one-year tour in Vietnam, where he was credited with saving nine lives. He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and another Distinguished Flying Cross, and seven Air Medals for meritorious achievement in flight. Brahney also earned an M.S. in systems management from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Pittsburgh. After retirement from the Air Force in 1982, Brahney worked at the Society of Automotive Engineers. A published author, Brahney also taught organization and management courses at the University of Maryland, Youngstown State University, and the University of Pittsburgh.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. (Peluso) Brahney; daughter, Mary Frances Roche; sons, James Eric Brahney and Scott Mitchell Brahney, all North Allegheny graduates, Pittsburgh; sisters, Ellen McQuade, Kathleen Dragoman and Nancy Varley, all of Youngstown; and grandchildren, Joy, Samuel, Connor, Emily, Caleb, Aidan and Joshua.
Friends will be received Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Simons Funeral Home Inc., 7720 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Sebastian Church in Pittsburgh on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

GRANGER, IND. David Johnston Byers, 67, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at home.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann; daughter Kim Koscher of South Bend, Ind.; sons Steven and Michael Byers, both of Mishawaka, Ind.; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; sisters Marilyn Hamilton of Liberty Township and Shirley Byers of Lakewood; and brother Richard Byers of Boardman.

Together Again
YOUNGSTOWN - There will be funeral services at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St Christine Church in Youngstown with Rev. Kevin Peters celebrating for Mary M. Davanzo, 91, who passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, Sept. 11, 2009, at the Inn at Christine Valley, where she resided for the last five years.
Mary was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Youngstown, the daughter of Michael and Madeline (Chianese) DiCiocco.
She retired from Ohio Edison. Mary was formerly from Lowellville, where she was a member of Our Lady of Holy Rosary Church and its Altar & Rosary Society. She was a member of St. Christine Church.
Mary enjoyed spending Christmas Eve with her family, eating the traditional dinner.
Her husband, Frank Davanzo, whom she married June 27, 1934, passed away Oct. 10, 1986.
Mary will always be remembered by her two daughters, Rita (Ronald) Palowitz of Youngstown and Marsha (George) Kondas of Austintown; two daughters-in-law, Janet Davanzo of Youngstown and Lori Davanzo of Florida; 12 grandchildren, Michael Davanzo, Francis (Holly) Davanzo, Mary Jo (Brian) Zamary, Ronald (Cheryl) Palowitz, Rick Palowitz, Rob (Crissa) Palowitz, Carmen (Bridget) Davanzo, Jerry Davanzo, Rocco (Amy) Davanzo, Anthony (Maureen) Davanzo, Kristy Kondas, and George Jr. (Sheena) Kondas; 22 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Frasco, Betty (Marty) Yaslik, and Angeline DiCiocco.
Besides her parents and husband, Mary has been reunited with her two sons, Carmen Davanzo and Michael Davanzo; two sisters, Antoinette Donofrio and Virginia Bettura; and her brother, Edward DiCiocco.

Lawrence Francis Gallagher Jr., 65
CANFIELD - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in The Cathedral of St. Columba, and prayers will be offered at 9:15 a.m. in the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Lawrence Francis Gallagher Jr., 65, who died Friday at his residence.
Lawrence was born Dec. 9, 1943, in Youngstown to the late Lawrence F. and Margaret E. (Taiclet) Gallagher. He was the eldest of six children.
He was a 1958 graduate of St. Columba School and a 1962 graduate of Ursuline High School. He received his bachelors degree from Youngstown State University, majoring in English and Philosophy. He continued his education with Allegheny Community College, receiving an associates degree. He attended St. Gregory Seminary and the Athenaeum of Ohio and later taught at Vanderbilt University and Youngstown State University.
Lawrence was a Licensed Respiratory Therapist for 34 years, serving patients at St. Elizabeth Health Center and Salem Community Hospital, where he retired at in 2000.
He was a member of St. Luke Parish and the Knights of Columbus No. 4224 in Poland where he achieved his 3rd. degree.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Corpsman during the Vietnam War, serving with the 5th Calvary and 9th. Infantry Division.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Sedmak.
He is survived by his wife, the former Joanne Brajkovich, whom he married Sept. 3, 1998; two daughters, Mikaela Gallagher Whitman of New York and Jennifer (Pete) Craig-Ostapiak of Salem; two sons, Donald (Lisa) Craig Jr. of Troy and John (Sara) Craig of Ashburn, Va.; six grandchildren, Eric, Chelsea, Anna, Lauren, Devon and Gabriel. He also leaves two sisters, Mary Ann Gallagher and Margaret (Kittiphon) Prayong; three brothers, Michael (Prudence) Gallagher, Patrick (Renee') Gallagher and Timothy (Karen) Gallagher; nieces and nephews Jennifer, Michael Sean, Brendan, Erin, Megan, Shawna, Kathleen, Shane, and Daniel; and great-nephews Dominic and Cormac.
Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Mary Lou Gartland, 97
BOARDMAN Services will be at 12:15 p.m. Monday at the McCauley Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Dominic Church for Mary Lou Gartland, 97, who passed Wednesday evening at Shepherd of the Valley.
Miss Gartland was born Aug. 12, 1912, in Youngstown, a daughter of Eugene M. and Margaret Barrett Gartland, and was a lifelong member of the community.
Miss Gartland was in the billing department and a secretary at the Isalys Dairy from 1932 until its closing in 1970. She then was employed by Morris Sports as the office manager from 1970 until her retirement in 1981.
Miss Gartland was a member of the church and its Altar and Rosary Society, was a member of American Business Womens Association-Mill Creek Chapter, was a participant in the first Womens Cursillo in the diocese, and enjoyed needlework. An avid bridge player, she recently developed a fondess for poker. She was a 1930 graduate of Ursuline High School.
Miss Gartland is survived by several cousins.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene F. Gartland, who died in combat during World War II; and sisters Mrs. Jane LaCelle and Miss Margaret Gartland.

AUSTINTOWN Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at the Trinity Fellowship Church in Boardman for Charles J. Kuharich, 61, who passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009.
Chuck was born Aug. 22, 1948, in Youngstown, the son of Charles J. Sr. and Katherine (Kolesar) Kuharich.
He was a lifelong area resident, a graduate of Mooney High School, class of 1966, and a member of the church and its choir. He was a self employed salesman for many years, retiring in 2005. Chuck enjoyed singing, drag racing, motorcycles, golfing and bowling.
Chuck leaves his wife, the former Margie Hrichus, whom he married Aug. 7, 1971; two sons, Charles (Kim) Kuharich III of Boardman and David (Lucy) Kuharich of Mission Viejo, Calif.; one daughter, Nicolle (David) Hendrick of Austintown; four grandchildren, Jenna, Jillian, Valentina and Jadon. Chuck also leaves his father, Charles Kuharich Sr. of Canfield; one brother, Raymond (Diane) Kuharich of Austintown; and three sisters, Maryann (Peter) Gordick of Florida, Kathy (Dean) Pulakos of South Carolina and Joannie (Paul) Ruchtie of Canfield.
Chuck was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine, and one sister, Carol Jean Kohl.

BOARDMAN - Funeral services will be at noon on Monday in the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Eleanore Laughery, 72, who died Thursday at her residence.
She was born Nov. 3, 1936, in California, Pa., the daughter of James G. Laughery and Lea Mae (Jackie) Seders.
She moved to the Youngstown area in 1984 from Pennsylvania. She was employed by Gabriel Brothers in Boardman as a cashier for the last eight years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Laughery.
She is survived by two nieces, Tami Petrick of Melbourne, Fla., and Michelle Karpinec of Cleveland; two nephews, James (Mary) Laughery and Kevin Laughery, both of Cleveland; and great-nieces and nephews, James, Ian, Heather, Joey, Noah, Nick, Brandon and Tyler.

She was a 1934 graduate of Girard High School. During World War II, she worked at Niles Metal Products and more recently was a cafeteria cook at Liberty High School for 20 years. She was a member of St. Casimir Church, was active in bowling leagues at Bell Wick Lanes, a member of the Croatian Lodge No. 66 and VFW Post 7600 Auxiliary and its past presiden.t in Coitsville Township. Her family was a founding family of St. Rocco Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her husband, William Litch Jr., whom she married Sept. 4, 1948; a son, W. Gary (Francoise) Litch of Liberty Township; two grandchildren, Scott and Christine Litch, both of Columbus; and a sister, Norma Pause of Tampa, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Nebo, Richard and Ralph; and two sisters, Lucy and Mary.

CAMPBELL There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home for Marvin Patterson, 72, who departed this life Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Camelot Arms Health Care Center.
Mr. Patterson was born Jan. 17, 1937, in Campbell, a son of John Sr. and Ruth Stewart Patterson.
He was machinist for Chrysler-Daimler Motors. He attended the Shiloh Baptist Church and was a veteran in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.
He leaves a son, Marvin Carey Sr. of Toledo; a daughter, Marshelle Patterson and two stepdaughters, Tamika and Tasha, all of Detroit; a brother, Wilburt Patterson Sr. of Hartford, Conn.; six nephews, including David Patterson of Youngstown, who was his caregiver; two nieces; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Patterson, and a foster sister, Ann Moncrief, both of Youngstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Half-Pint Patterson Jr. The family will receive friends and guests at the home of Sheila Patterson, 545 Parkcliffe Ave. in Youngstown.
Philip V. Mestrovich, 71
STRUTHERS A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at 6 p.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers for Philip V. Mestrovich, 71, who passed away Wednesday evening.
Philip was born March 5, 1938, in Youngstown, a son of Vincent and Catherine Yakopatz Mestrovich.
He lived in the area for most of his life and was the vice president of Local No. 99 of the Operating Engineers in Washington, D.C. He served in U.S. Navy during the Korean War and also boxed in the Navy.
Philip loved all sports, especially the Cleveland Indians, and once played minor league ball with the D.C. Athletics. He also coached little league baseball in Edgewater, Md. He was a member of the St. Nicholas Church in Struthers.
Philip married the former Martha A. Johnson in August of 1973, but they have been together for 47 years.
He leaves one daughter, Karen Warren of Youngstown; and four grandchildren, Christina King, Jason King, Jennifer Paddy and William Lee King.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call for one hour before the service at the funeral home, from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

POLAND Laura M. Pignanelli, 86, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at her residence.
Laura was born July 14, 1923, in Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late John and Maude Broome Vaughn.
She worked for 20 years at St. Elizabeth Health Center as an EKG Technician, retiring in 1980.
Laura will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Carole Pignanelli, with whom she made her home, and Andrew J. (Norma) Pignanelli of McDonald; her sister, Vivian Novello of Girard; grandchildren Lauren Cercel, Kathy Worsencroft and Andrea Pignanelli; and great-grandchildren Nicole, Colin, Taylor, Jordan, Madison and Vincent.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Andrew A. Pignanelli, whom she married Feb. 8, 1944 and who died July 14, 1986; sisters Thelma Scirocco and Ruth Plummer; and brothers Floyd, James and Raymond Vaughn.

LIBERTY Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15. 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schiavone Funeral Home for Glenn Roy Sharpnack Jr., 62, who died Sept. 10, 2009.
Glenn was born March 2, 1947, in Youngstown, a son of Glenn Roy Sharpnack Sr. and Carolyn Nora Walters.
He was a route salesman for the Schwebel Baking Company for the past 12 to 15 years. He was a 1964 graduate of Struthers High School and enjoyed exercising by walking with his dog, Missy, and riding a bicycle. He also enjoyed following Formula I Auto Racing.
He is survived by a son, David (Rebecca) Hernandes of Hartford; and his companion, his dog Missy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Carol Sue Zaccolia, whom he married May 17, 1986 and who died Dec. 7 2003; and a brother, William Sharpnack.

He was born Feb. 23,1936, the son of the late Howard and Edith (Tritt) Stamp.
Vern was a salesman at various area automobile dealers, and two of his main hobbies were woodworking and ballroom dancing with his wife. Vern also loved to travel, and he and his wife traveled in an RV across the United States for a year.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (DeMartino) Stamp, whom he married Sept. 14, 1993; three sons, Mitchell (Sheryl) Stamp of Girard, Wayne (Donna) Stamp of Niles and Ralph (Denise) Stamp of Niles; two daughters, Joann Audino of Florida and Linda Blakney of Texas; one stepson, Patrick (Lisa) Smallwood of Youngstown; one stepdaughter, Cheryl (Ronald) Palowitz of Youngstown; two brothers, Melvin (Toni) Stamp of Pennsylvania and Bill (Judy) Stamp of Austintown; three sisters, Gloria (Lynn) Wise of Tennessee, Marylou (Jim) Tyree of McDonald and Eileen (Bob) Tondo of McDonald; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

William J. Staudacher, 72
NILES A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Marys Catholic Church in Mineral Ridge for William J. Staudacher, 72, who went home to be with the Lord early Saturday morning at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.
He was born March 21, 1937, in Hubbard, a son of Francis and Marie (Lynch) Staudacher, and he resided in this area all of his life.
He was a 1955 graduate of Hubbard High School. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He worked as a tow motor operator for U.S. Can in Hubbard for more than 30 years, until his retirement.
He was an active member of St. Marys Church, where he served as an usher and performed other duties.
He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, and he was a passionate Browns, Indians and Notre Dame fan. His greatest love, though, was being with his family and grandchildren.
His first wife, Carol Ann, whom he married in 1962, preceded him in death May 23, 2003. His second wife, the former Sigrid Kunz, whom he married in 1985, preceded him in death Feb. 14, 2009.
He is survived by three children, Daniel (Valerie) Staudacher of Fort Worth, Texas; Carla Hodge (Rex Longwell) of Millerton, Pa., and Michelle (Doug) Douthit of Tucson, Ariz. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Mindy (Richard) Reed of Scottsdale, Ariz., David Staudacher of Lewisville, Texas, and Tyler, Trevor and Tanner Hodge of Millerton, Pa.; two brothers, James (Katheryn) Staudacher of Boardman and Paul (Janice) Staudacher of Citrus Springs, Fla.; a sister, Mary Jane Schotsch of Dunnellon, Fla.; and a great-granddaughter, Bentleigh, expected to be born soon.

Rev. Mary Margaret Thompson
WARREN Rev. Mary Margaret Thompson, of Hall Street, entered eternity Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at 10 p.m.
A 1965 graduate of Youngstown State University, she worked as a social worker for Lake-to-River Girl Scout Council and the Mahoning County Welfare Department. She worked for several years as a business manager at Meridian Arms Living Center and worked in various health care settings in the area of medical billing and management.
She worked until her retirement at the National Safety Council and worked until recently as a cashier at the Jamestown Giant Eagle.
She devoted 31 years of her life to worship ministry at various locations in the Youngstown-Warren area. She completed her last eight years of service at Our Way Home Christian Fellowship in Girard.
The daughter of Paul and Gertrude Robinson Almasy, both deceased, she leaves her sister, Janet Almasy; her husband, Chester Ralph Thompson; a daughter, Kathleen (Eric) Altman; a grandson, Joshua Altman; a son, David Geier; stepson Jeremiah (April) Thompson and their children, Dustin, Jaclyn and Katie, and stepson Joshua; a mother-in-law, Vivian Thompson; and a large extended family.
Rev. James Gaskill of Our Way Home Christian Fellowship will complete her surrender to the Lord in services to be held at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.

Bradley C. Walters, 71
OAKLAND, CALIF. Bradley C. Walters, beloved father, brother and community leader, 71, passed away at home on Aug. 15, 2009, of lung cancer.
He was born in Youngstown to the late Julius and Judith Walters on July 26, 1938.
Brad was charismatic, charming, and a natural leader. He attended Thiel College in Greensville, Pa., and was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
In 1961, Brad married Mary Ann Harris in Youngstown, and they had two daughters, Kymberlee and Kelly. They later divorced and Brad moved to California.
He attended Sonoma State College, where he received a B.A. in English Literature and met his future wife, Tina Marlowe. They moved to Berkeley, married in 1978, and had two children, Derek and Alexis.
Brad worked for Pacific Telephone Co. and was very active in the community. He was a member of the committee that organized the renaming of Martin Luther King Jr. Way, and was one of the founders of the Berkeley Juneteenth Festival. He served on the Mental Health Advisory Board, Coop Grocery Board and Police Review Commission. Brad was also the campaign manager for City Council member Mary Wainwright.
He and his family moved to Oakland in 1991. Brad worked in the Oakland Public Librarys Main Branch for over 19 years. He was an active member of SEIU Local 790 and was president of the Union at the time of his passing. During his career, Brad won numerous awards and honors for his dedicated work in Berkeley and Oakland. He enjoyed reading, the company of friends, Raiders football, and traveling. He lived life to the fullest right up until the end.
Brad is survived by his brother, Byron; first wife, Mary Ann; former wife, Tina; his son, Derek; his daughters, Alexis, Kymberlee and Kelly; six nieces and nephews; and five grandchildren.
Brad touched the lives of so many friends and colleagues, and all are welcome at his Memorial Celebration at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at St. Pauls A.M.E. Church, 2024 Ashby Ave. in Berkeley, Calif.
