NORTHFIELD, MINN. Rita Casey, 91, died Sept. 15, 2009.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Sept. 19, 2009, at the Church of St Dominic in Northfield.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown and will be announced at a later date.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Casey of Northfield; a son, William Casey of Salt Lake City; a sister, Patricia Brown of Boardman; a brother, Joseph (Marge) Nally of Canfield; and two grandchildren.

Patricia Ann Hall, 71
LEETONIA Patricia Ann Hall, 71, of 37005 Longs Crossing Road, died Wednesday at Salem Community Hospital in Salem.
She was born Sept. 12, 1938 in Ritchie County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Dexter and Helen Metts Hoff and had lived in the area since 1962.
Patricia had been employed as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Health Center for over 30 years, retiring in 2001. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church in Youngstown.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (David) Goerig of Leetonia and Jeanne (Scott) Workinger of Newbury Park, Calif.; a son, Joseph (Veronica) Hall of Leetonia; three sisters, Sharon (Harry) Taylor, Pennsboro, W.Va. and Mary (Charles) Kuhn and Martha (Monte) Bailey, both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a brother, Lyle (Karen) Hoff of Vienna, W.Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and was a wonderful grandmother to her eight grandchildren, Jason, Valerie, Emily and Phillip Goerig, Brandon and Justin Workinger and Joey and Abigail Hall.
Friends may call at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home in Leetonia from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Private services will follow with John Reed, Minister of the First Christian Church in Columbiana officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.

Robert E. Bob Hockenberry, 73
AUSTINTOWN Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Robert E. Bob Hockenberry, 73, who died Wednesday afternoon.
Bob was born Aug. 2, 1936 in Bellefonte, Pa., the son of Robert C. and Margaret (Schreffler) Hockenberry and came to Austintown in 1974.
Bob retired as owner operator of Riverside Supermarket in Warren in 1995; always wanting to be active he was a self-employed financial consultant with Prudential Insurance until the time of his death. Bob graduated from Bellefonte High School then spent four years in the U.S. Air Force. After being discharged from the Air Force, he attended Penn State University for two years.
Bob was an eternal optimist who was always on the go and active. He loved to do gardening and read.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Janet (Small), whom he married April 3, 1956; and his four sons and their wives, Gregory and Jill of Wooster, Scott and Elizabeth of Boardman, Robert and Diane of Boardman and Jeffrey and Cindy of Champion. He will also be missed by his sisters, Gloria Miller of Dover, Md., Cathy Lutz of Bellefonte and Helen Kelsea of New Albany, Ind.; brothers, James of Mifflintown, Pa. and Gary of Willis, Texas; and his grandchildren, Arlo Brookhart, Richard Boyles, Carolyn Hockenberry, Jude Hockenberry and Lily Hockenberry.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald; and sister, Carol.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thelma Beryl Miller, 84
GUSTAVUS TOWNSHIP Thelma Beryl Miller, 84, died on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Shepherd of the Valley.
She was born March 2, 1925, in Gladstone, Manitoba, the daughter of Roland C. and Bessie (Tinck) Knox.
A longtime Gustavus resident, Mrs. Miller was a Warren G. Harding High School graduate and she received her Bachelor's degree in Education from Kent State University. She was employed as a school teacher for many years for the Gustavus, Lordstown and Lakeview Schools teaching English and Algebra.
She was a member of the Gustavus Federated Church, where she belonged to the Gustavus Community Aid. She was a member of the U & I Club in Gustavus, the Gustavus Friendly Garden Club, the Trumbull County Historical Society, the Trumbull County Garden Forum, where she was a judge, and the Trumbull County Farm Bureau, where she was a council member. She also served on the library board, and was a former member of the Kinsman B.P.W and the Gustavus Grange.
Her hobbies included collecting antiques, playing cards, and she loved arranging flowers and judging them.
Mrs. Miller married R. Lawrence Spy Miller on June 13, 1953 and he preceded her in death on July 12, 2007. Also preceding her in death are her parents; and brother, Errol Knox.
She is survived by her son, Russell E. Rusty and his wife, Mindy Miller of Gustavus; two granddaughters, Emily L. and Jenna R. Miller, both of Gustavus; stepmother, Leota Knox of Warren; and two brothers, Gary Knox of Warren and Chuck Knox of Illinois.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St. in Kinsman, with the Rev. Karl Bucey officiating.
Burial will follow at Gustavus Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sanford Nathaniel Peakes Jr., 84
YOUNGSTOWN Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church for Sanford Nathaniel Peakes Jr., 84, who departed this life Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mr. Peakes was born Jan. 28, 1925 in Coalwood, W.Va., a son of Sanford N. Sr. and Janie A. Williams Peakes.
He was a professional boxer, where he earned his nickname Duke. He was a policeman for the city of Cleveland and had worked for U.S. Steel and several security firms.
He was a member of the church, attended Youngstown State University, served in World War II until 1946 and served a second tour of duty in the Korean Conflict.
He leaves his first wife, Helen Parr of Youngstown; two children, Tyrone (Joyce) Peakes, with whom he made his home and LeVerne Peakes of Buffalo, N.Y.; three stepchildren, Charles Partee of Cleveland, Annette (George) Lee and Donna Slater, both of Youngstown; and grandchildren, Tyrone Peakes II, Sausha Peakes and Shirleyah Peakes.
His parents; stepfather, James M. Long; second wife, Ellen Peakes; and stepdaughter, Carol Howard preceded him in death.

Genevieve Polonus, 98
FARRELL, PA. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, for Genevieve Polonus, 84, of 98 Capital Court, who passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Wednesday morning, Sept. 16, 2009.
She was born on Jan. 23, 1925 in Youngstown, the daughter of Andrew and Mary Richnavsky Ontko.
She graduated from Chaney High School in Youngstown and in her later years, she earned an associate degree from the Pennsylvania State University, Shenango Valley Campus.
Genevieve was employed by Dean Foods and the former Brookfield Dairy, where she worked in many capacities in the Payroll Department for 45 years.
She was a member of the Our Lady of Fatima-St. Anns Church in Farrell, and a former member of St. Josephs Church in Sharon, Pa.
Some of her hobbies included reading, traveling to local gaming casinos, and bowling in her earlier years.
Her husband, William Bill Polonus, whom she married on Sept. 15, 1972, passed away on May 10, 1988.
She is survived by four nieces, Nancy and Marilyn Carlos, both of Sharpsville, Pa., Nancy Gross of Boardman and Alberta Osier of Canada; two nephews, Jim Carlos of Poland and Tom Carlos and his wife, Sandy of Sharpsville; a stepdaughter, Linda Garnack and her husband, Michael of Sharpsville; three sisters-in-law, Helen Horvath of Transfer, Pa. and Mary and Beverly Magda, both of Youngstown; two step granddaughters, Katy Slater and her husband, Tim of Fredonia and Jessica King and her husband, TJ of Sharpsville; and two step great-grandchildren, James and Jordan Slater. She also leaves her friend of many years Charlie Kardos, and several additional nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Helen Carlos, Peg Gross and Anna Marie Ontko; her half brother, Frank Magda; three stepbrothers, Stephen, Joseph and John Magda; and her niece, Judith Carlos.
Calling hours will be today, Sept. 18, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 1090 E. State St. in Sharon.
The Rosary will be recited today at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Andrew Edward Rakocy, 90
STRUTHERS Andrew Edward Rakocy, 90, died early the morning of Sept. 16 at Omni Manor Health Care Center.
Andrew was born in Youngstown Oct. 30, 1918, a son of Stephen and Catherine Dvornicky Rakocy.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy SeaBees as a gunners mate 3rd Class. He was stationed in both Guam and Hawaii.
After the war, Andrew worked as an inventory supervisor at Sharon Steel, retiring in 1981 after 41 years of service. In addition, he was employed as a landscaper with Terrace Gardens for 10 years, from 1968 to 1978.
Andrew was a member of St. Matthias Church and of the Holy Name Society, the Sacred Heart and Rosary Society, First Catholic Slovak Union No. 731 and Slovak Catholic Sokol No. 108. He also played on the Sokol, Jednota and Taft Avenue Chance golf leagues.
He is survived by his wife, the former Eleanor Hrepko Babik, whom he married Mar. 20, 1991; his sons, Edward (Paula) of Youngstown and Terry (Carol) of Bourbonnais, Ill.; his stepdaughter, Beverly Babik of Boardman; his stepsons, Michael J. (Christine) Babik also of Boardman and Richard (Brenda) Babik of Houston; his brother, Michael Rakocy of Poland; his sister, Theresa Smrecansky of Minneapolis; his grandchildren, Andrea (Russell) Burton, Mary Dietsch, Mark Rakocy, Jennifer Rakocy, Julie (Michael) Damon, Patty (Mike) Wright and Kathleen Rakocy; and his nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Mary Lucansky, whom he married Nov. 16, 1939, who died June 22, 1985; his brothers, Stephen and Joseph Rakocy; and his sisters, Anne Stanislaw, Margaret Roberts, Mary Rehovsky, Sister Delphine, and Irene and Helen Rakocy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Andrew Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Matthias Church in Youngstown
Visitation will take place Sunday at the Kubina-Yuhasz Funeral Home, 5925 Market St. in Boardman from 2 to 5 p.m., where a prayer service will be held at 1:45 p.m., and in church on Monday from 9 to 9:30 a.m., prior to Mass.
Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to say thank you to the staff of the North and West wings of Omni Manor with special thanks extended to all the aides for the kindness shown to Andrew while he was under their care.
