Patricia K. Bair, 63

NORTH LIMA – Patricia K. Bair, 63, of E. South Range Road, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Mrs. Bair was born on April 6, 1946 in San Diego, the daughter of the late Paul and Betty L. (Aldridge-Rucker) Haus.

Patricia was a homemaker and of the Christian faith. She was a member of the American Eagles Auxiliary 2415 in New Waterford.

Mrs. Bair is survived by her husband, Thomas Bair Sr., whom she married on June 11, 1966.

Patricia is also survived by one daughter, Lisa Burk of Youngstown; four sons, Thomas L. Bair Jr. of Youngstown, Timothy A. Bair of New Middletown, Michael P. Bair of North Lima and Kevin S. (Julie) Bair of Texas; one sister, Diana J. Arkwright of Salem; one brother, Edward P. Haus of Boardman; and eight grandchildren, Tricia, Angel, Dylan, Damyen, Nathaniel, Jayden, Alexander and Anthony.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima, with Mr. Daniel Bair officiating.

Burial will be at Paradise Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima.

Mrs. Bair was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

Frank M. Bollen, 97

BOARDMAN – Prayers will begin Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church for Frank M. Bollen, 97, who died early Friday morning at Assumption Village.

Frank was born Nov. 21, 1911 in Youngstown, the son of Frank and Anna Colla Bologna.

He had served in the Civilian Conservation Corporation from 1933 to 1934. Frank was a musician, playing guitar for local dance bands from 1934 to 1936. A veteran, Mr. Bollen served in France and Germany as a member of the Field Artillery Unit of the U.S. Army’s 14th Armored Division during World War II. After serving our country, Frank earned his Bachelors Degree in Engineering from Youngstown State University in 1950. He had worked as a design engineer with the Mahoning County Engineers Office from 1950 until his retirement in 1977.

Mr. Bollen had been a member of St. Charles Church, a past member of the Latin Culture Foundation, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a Charter member of the Wolves Club Den VI.

His wife, the former Florence Balmenti, whom he married Aug. 23, 1947, died Jan. 29, 1979.

He is survived by two daughters, Janice C. (Tim) Love of Kalispell, Mont. and Joanne M. Kane of North Lima; three granddaughters, Emily Sue (Nate) Glutting, Erin E. Kane and Jessica M. Kane; great-grand-daughter, Chloe Kane; a brother, Nicholas Bollen of Arkansas; and four sisters, Nancy Culotta of Buffalo, N.Y., Mela Esposito of Boardman, Jane Michaels of Parma and Yolanda (Ed) Labate of Boardman.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Tea Guerra and Angela Billett.

Nathaniel Scott Brooks Jr., infant

YOUNGSTOWN – Nathaniel Scott Brooks Jr., infant, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, at 4:54 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

He was born Sept. 24, 2009 in Youngstown, the son of Nathaniel Scott and Shanequa L. Irvin-Brooks Sr.

Besides his parents of Cleveland Heights, he leaves to mourn one sister, Jada Ann Enice Irvin Brooks; grandparents, Michelle Renne Brooks of Cleveland Heights, Daniel Butler Brooks of Austintown, Patricia Ann Irvin of Philadelphia and Howard James Irvin of Beaverton, Ore.; great-grandparents, Carolyn Smith and Edward Smith of Philadelphia; aunts, Lelar Whitaker of East Cleveland, Tameka Irvin and Ashanti Hammond, both of Akron and Janae Brooks of Youngstown; uncles, Daniel B. Brooks Jr. and Boisseau Harris, both of Youngstown and Cahlil Irvin of Philadelphia; cousin, De’Andre Brooks of Youngstown; and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Ernest and Mary S. Brooks.

Graveside services will be held today, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m. at Tod Homestead Cemetery.

Helen Jean Chaffee, 89

“Together Again” 

BOARDMAN – Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Luke Church, celebrated by Father Joseph Fata, for Helen Jean Chaffee, 89, who passed away Friday morning at her residence.

Mrs. Chaffee was born Oct. 31, 1919 in Glassport, Pa., a daughter of Michael J. and Katherine Burns O’Toole and was a resident of the area since 1946, having been raised in Pueblo, Colo.

Helen was a charter member of Saint Luke Church.

Her husband, James P. Chaffee, whom she married April 22, 1946, died May 24, 2005.

She leaves two sons, Edward J. (Becki) Chaffee of Canfield and Thomas J. (Donna) Chaffee of Boardman; two daughters, Norma Jean (Joey) Banks of Los Angeles and Janice Morgan of Boardman; six grandchildren, James (Kara) Morgan, Julie (Kurt) Norris, Kate Chaffee, Jeffrey (Kelli) Chaffee, Kelly Chaffee and Shannon Chaffee; and five great-grandchildren, Emma Norris, Jessica Norris, Michael Morgan, Brady Morgan and Sean Chaffee.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Chaffee; a granddaughter, Kayla Chaffee; and two sisters, Margaret Welch and Mildred Vidmar.

Geneva Brewster Cox, 84

VIENNA – Geneva Brewster Cox, 84, of Smith Stewart Road, and formerly of Niles, passed away at 11:49 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at her residence, following a brief illness.

Geneva was born in Olive Hill, Ky. on Oct. 29, 1924 to Robert Lee and Anna (Conn) Brewster, and came to this area in 1947 from Carter County Kentucky.

She was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed ceramics, making crafts, flower gardening and sewing. She also enjoyed going on bus trips and church activities, and especially spending time with her family and friends. Many years ago, Geneva worked as a cook at the Shepherd of the Valley and Glenview Manor Nursing Homes.

Geneva is survived by two daughters, Yvonne (Evie) (the late Richard) Miller of Niles and Deanna (Dayton) Turner of Vienna, with whom she lived; two sons, Robert (Rose) Cox of Niles and Donald (the late Valerie) Cox of Champion; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Morton (Earnesteen) Brewster of Olive Hill, John (Clara) Brewster of Dayton and Willard Brewster of Olive Hill; two sisters, Fern Fultz of Maron, Ind. and Charlene Horton of Olive Hill; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Williard Cox, whom she married on Aug. 28, 1939, and who passed away on May 23, 1983; son, William Cox, who died June 26, 1998; five sisters, Mae Haywood, Louella Gee, Clara Davis, Blanche Tackett and Adabee Brewster; and three brothers, Melvin Brewster, Wilford Brewster and Norton Brewster.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home in Niles.

The funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Garey McCartney of the Galilee Apostolic Church will officiate.

Burial will be at Kerr Cemetery.

Helen Graban, 79

CAMPBELL – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Orthodox Church for Helen Graban, 79, who passed away Wednesday morning at Briarfield Manor.

Helen was born July 20, 1930 in Xenia, the daughter of Dr. J. Merle and Ruth Ramsey Rife.

She was a 1948 graduate of New Concord High School and went on to attend Cedarville College and graduated from Tarkio College with a degree in Education.

She began her elementary teaching career in College Springs, Iowa and an opening in Youngstown brought her here to teach at West Elementary School. She then went on to teach in the Campbell School System. Helen always enjoyed teaching the kindergarten children.

She was a member of the church, where she served on the church council, the FROC and the Sisterhood Club.

She enjoyed cross stitching, making over 50 quilts, and her favorite summer trips were to her grandfather’s farm in Cedarville. She also enjoyed her high school, college and family reunions.

Helen was a great, beautiful mother and leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Edward A., whom she married on Sept. 9, 1961; one daughter, Mary Ruth Mico and her husband, Joey, whom she loved like an extra son, of Campbell; one son, Edward A. of Staten Island, N.Y.; a brother, J. Merle Rife of Indiana, Pa.; a sister, Margaret of East Palestine; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Cecilia.

The Graban family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wakso Funeral Home and will receive friends Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Robert Budd Hough Sr, 73

CANFIELD – Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel for Robert Budd Hough Sr, 73, who died Thursday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman.

Robert was born March 3, 1936 in Harborcreek Township, Pa., the son of Joseph W. and Ella Catherine Hough.

Robert was an Operating Engineer with International Union of Operating Engineers, working for the local union No. 66. He retired in 1999.

Robert truly loved his family. He really enjoyed tractors and anything with a motor. He loved to take his wife for car rides to the Ohio River, and he always liked watching the Crane Operators. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his grandchildren, niece, nephews, relatives and friends.

Robert leaves his wife, the former Barbara Skoda, whom he married Jan. 10, 1959. Robert also leaves two sons, Robert Budd Jr. (Sandy) Hough of Ellsworth and Thomas Joseph Hough of Canfield; and two granddaughters, Paula (Scott) Ricciardi of Calcutta and Rebecca (Edwin) Brown of Florida. Robert also leaves a brother, Thomas (Rose) Hough of Canfield and two sisters, Alice Hough of Canfield and Lois Kittel of North Lima. He also leaves seven great-grandchildren, Briana, Ashley, Courtney, Faith, Elijah and Jacob, all of Calcutta, and also Bryant of Florida.

Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Joseph “Jake” Hough; and a sister, Ann Hough.

Friends and family may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association in Robert’s name.

Audrey J. (Dunlosky) Kavulick, 76

HOWLAND TOWNSHIP – Audrey J. (Dunlosky) Kavulick, 76, died at 3:35 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 10, 1933 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Adam and Mildred (Lewellyn) Dunlosky.

Audrey was a 1949 graduate of Chaney High School and graduated as a registered nurse in 1953 from the Trumbull Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for many years as a registered nurse at RMI Titanium and WCI Steel. Previously, Audrey worked as a nurse at the Ravenna Arsenal, G.E. in Niles and Gillettes Country Place Nursing Home.

Audrey was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Church in Warren and was active with the Hillside Hospital PEP Club.

Her husband, Albert A. Kavulick, whom she married Feb. 18, 1956, preceded her in death on April 9, 1999. One brother, John J. Dunlosky also preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen L. Kavulick of Columbiana; one son, David A. (Wendy) Kavulick of Macomb, Mich.; two grandsons, Ryan and Eyan; one sister, Ruth (Michael) Klochak of Boardman; one sister-in-law, Sandra Dunlosky of Howland; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, preceded by prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Robert Karl and the Rev. Richard Whetstone will concelebrate the Mass.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Youngstown.

Mary Lou Krause, 84

 BOARDMAN – There will be a Memorial Mass at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Saint Dominic Church for Mary Lou Krause, 84, formerly of Terrace Drive in Boardman, who passed away Thursday evening at Saint Elizabeth Boardman Heath Center.

Mary Lou was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Youngstown, a daughter of Thomas and Mary Janitor Lawrence.

She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended the Lou Rowan Business College. She was a secretary for the Mahoning National Bank.

Mary Lou was a member of Saint Dominic Church. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Club, several bridge clubs, and the Dancing Saturday Nighters at Idora Park. She was a Welcome Wagon Greeter and an Avon Consultant. Mary Lou was very active in the community and active in several garden clubs, having won numerous awards for her floral arranging.

Her husband, Nelson “Bud” Krause is deceased.

A magnolia tree will be planted in Mary Lou’s and Bud’s memory.

She leaves a sister, Irene “Renee” (John) Anderson of Wheeling, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Drevet and Helen Nemesek, both of Girard; two nieces, Lori Anderson Myers of Bow, N.H. and Terri Anderson Cremo of Champion, Pa.; and two nephews, Tom Anderson of Pittsburgh and Jack Anderson of Columbus.

Mary Lou’s body was donated to NEOUCOM, as was her husband’s body so that someone else may benefit.

Rosemary Ann Masucci, 69

BOARDMAN – Rosemary Ann Masucci, 69, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at her home.

Rosemary was born in Youngstown on March 29, 1940.

She attended school at St. Dominic’s and Ursuline and received her teaching degree from Youngstown State University.

She taught at St. Nicholas School in Struthers and then continued her career in Austintown, where she taught 3rd grade at Watson Elementary School. Though retired, her memories of days in the classroom were very vivid, and she relished her years of teaching.

Rosemary was an integral part of her family, attending every occasion and bringing love and laughter to each encounter. She was always willing to help out, and she would volunteer to do things even when she didn’t feel well. Her family was a source of great pride to her, and she was generous with her praise, supporting and encouraging every endeavor.

Anyone who knew Rose could say she was one of the most gentle people in the world. She had many friends with whom she traveled, taught, and played Bunko, and she cherished them.

Rosemary never strayed from her Catholic faith, and she lived her beliefs, sharing in many faith groups throughout her life.

She leaves her loving brother, John (Judy) Masucci and her sister-in-law, Nancy Masucci, all of Poland. She also leaves her nieces and nephews, Nancy (Mark) Creemer of Medina, Michael (Michelle) Masucci of Poland, John (Kristin) Masucci of Poland and Lisa (Jim) Knopp of McKinney, Texas. Rosemary was a loving great-aunt to Michael, Katie and Hannah Masucci, Jason and Brian Creemer, Alexa and Zane Knopp and Sydney and Samantha Masucci.

Rosemary’s mother and father, Michael and Anna and her brothers, Alphonse and Stephen, preceded her in death.

Family and friends will be received Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church in Poland.

Cleotha Jean Mohammed, 68

CAMPBELL – Cleotha Jean Mohammed, 68, of 137 Roosevelt Drive, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at 1:15 a.m. at the Hospice House.

Mrs. Mohammed was born July 13, 1941 in Huntington, Pa., the daughter of Anam and Annette Ricks Abdo, living in the area since 1946.

She was employed for 22 years at Dr. Paloski’s office as a lab technician, before retiring in September of 1997. She also worked at Cafaro Hospital for 10 years in Medical Records.

She was a 1959 graduate of South High School and graduated with an associate degree from Santa Anna Junior College.

Mrs. Mohammed was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and Koppers and Tiki Lounge Bowling Leagues.

She married Alfred D. Mohammed on Aug. 10, 1969, and he died Feb. 22, 1990.

She leaves to mourn a devoted daughter, Annette Davenport of Campbell; a granddaughter, Lauryn Davenport of Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Annette Davenport, 366 Sixth St.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church.

Calling hours will be one hour prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery.

Virginia L. Stevens, 75

BOARDMAN – Virginia L. Stevens, 75, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at her residence, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born Feb. 18, 1934 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Vito Guglielm and the late Lucia (Di Tunno) Guglielm.

She was the wife of Guy Stevens, whom she married Aug. 27, 1960.

The family includes her husband, Guy Stevens of Boardman; her daughters, Lisa (David) Kerka of Hudson, Gloria (Matthew) Dugan of Rocky River, Amy (Dan) Witzigreuter of Lakewood and Anita (Jonathan) Edwards of Mentor; her son, Guy Stevens of Huntington Beach, Calif.; her sister, Victoria Reto of Poland; and her grandchildren, Dominic and Marc Edwards, Eve, Luke and Paul Witzigreuter, David and Caroline Kerka and Natalie and Margot Dugan.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brothers, Alfred Guglielm, Anthony Guglielm and Ralph Guglielm; and her sisters, Ann Angelo, Rose Guglielm, Marie Kane and Stella Tuchek.

She was a graduate of Youngstown State University, graduating with a B.A. in Education. She was a health and physical education teacher. She taught at Science Hill, Hayes and South High Schools. She was president of Boardman PTA, president of Kent State Mothers Association, a member of the Friends of Boardman Library, and she also enjoyed dancing. She was a member of St. Dominic Church.

Calling hours will be at the Fabrizio Funeral Home, 619 East Indianola Ave. in Youngstown on Sunday, Sept. 27, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at St. Dominic Church on Monday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m.

The family requests that donations be made to St. Dominic Church or to Hospice of the Valley in Virginia’s name.

Steve Turcola, 59

TWINSBURG – Steve Turcola, 59, passed away suddenly on Sept. 23, 2009.

He was born in McDonald.

Steve was a regional sales manager for NEC Electronics America for 21 years. He loved his family, Serbian heritage, golf and music. He was a member of the Njegosh Choir of St. Sava Cathedral and Kosovo Serbian Men’s Choir. He was a former board member of the Kent State Alumni Association. He was a former member of Vatra Ziva Tamburitza Orchestra in Columbus.

He was the beloved husband of Danielle (Rajsich); dear father of Maximilian (Dijana) Trkulja and Alexander Trkulja (Turcola); grandfather of Mia and Iva; beloved son of Max (deceased) and Mildred (Leskovac); dear brother of George (deceased), Don and Robert; and beloved uncle and great-uncle.

The family suggests that donations be made to St. Sava Cathedral Choir “Njegosh,” 6306 Broadview Road, Parma, OH 44134, or to the Kosovo Men’s Choir, Attention: Paul Kovacik, 1916 Edwards, Akron, OH 44306.

All services will be held on Monday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 6306 Broadview Road in Cleveland. Please meet at the church, where V. Rev. Zivojin Jakovljevic and V. Rev. Janko Rajlich will be officiating.

Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery, 3346 Belmont Avenue in Youngstown on Monday at 1 p.m. Please meet at the front gate.

Friends may call at the Donald A. Faulhaber Funeral Home, 7915 Broadview Road (at Sprague) on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Barbara L. Uber, 77

FT. MYERS FLA. – Barbara L. Uber, 77, formerly of Canfield, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at her home on Aug. 5, 2009.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road in Canfield.

Arrangements were handled by the Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

It was Barbara’s wish that donations go to Hope Hospice, 9470 HelathPark Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
