Mary Hamilton Barnes

FAIRMONT, W.VA. – Mary Melissa Hamilton Barnes, 89, died on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at her home.

She was born at the Salt Lick Community near Mannington on Feb. 28, 1920, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Lucy Yost Hamilton.

Mrs. Barnes graduated from Mannington High School in 1937 and from Fairmont General Hospital’s School of Nursing in 1944. She then joined the U S Army Nurse Corps and served at Camp Atterbury, Indiana and at Linz, Austria with the Army Occupation after World War II.

Following her return home from Europe, she went to work at Fairmont General Hospital and worked off and on until 1961. She then took a job at the Fairmont Clinic where she worked until 1974.

Mary was a member of the Barrackville United Methodist Church. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed traveling, reading and keeping up with the news. She was also an ardent Democrat.

She married Dilce J. Barnes on April 14, 1948. They were married 51 years until his death in 1999.

They had two children who survive her, Diana J. Colebank, with whom she made her home and Benjamin H. Barnes and his wife, Diane of Youngstown. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Mary Frances Colebank of Alexandria, Va. and Michael C. Colebank and his wife, Marlene of Fairmont; a brother-in-law, Millard R. Murphy of Salt Lick Community; and a sister-in-law, Freda Hughes of Fairmont.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Walter Hamilton, Ernest Hamilton, Ted Hamilton and Virginia Murphy; two grandchildren, David John Colebank and Charles Troy Colebank; and a son-in-law, John Colebank. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family.

Friends may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street in Fairmont on Wednesday, from 2 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at the funeral home.

Interment services will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

James Michael Benedict, 83

NILES – James Michael Benedict, 83, of 307 Washington Ave., passed away peacefully on Sunday morning Oct. 4, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Niles on Dec. 19, 1925 to Joseph F. and Harriett (Swegan) Benedict Sr., and lived all his life in Niles.

Jim was a 1944 graduate of Niles McKinely High School and a 1950 graduate of Youngstown State University with a degree in premedical and biological sciences.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the USS LST No. 621 Association of World War II and for several years attended their annual meetings.

He retired in 1981 as a captain in the Niles Fire Department, where he was a fireman for 32 years. Jim organized and taught a fire prevention program in the Niles City Schools from 1955 to 1965.

He was also a partner with J & J Sports Imprinting for 10 years, retiring in 1987. Jim was active in the community and volunteering for the American Red Cross and Hillside Hospital.

He was a member of St. Stephen Church, where he taught CCD classes, the American Legion Post 106 in Niles and the Police and Fire Association Retirees of Ohio.

He enjoyed wood carving, crossword puzzles and golfing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Martha J. (Richards) Benedict, whom he married on June 19, 1948; four sons, Thomas (Gabriella) Benedict of Bristol, Conn., Timothy (Mary) Benedict of Reynoldsburg, Terry (Donna) Benedict of Springfield, Va. and James A. (Michele) Benedict of Canfield; 10 grandchildren, Randy, Kevin, Kate, Nicole, Patrick, Michael, Sarah, Bryan, Bradley and Alex; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph F. Benedict Jr. of Niles; and two sisters, Catherine Ridley of Millbrook, N.Y. and Betty (Les) Reichardt of Liverpool, N.Y.

Calling hours will be today, Oct. 6, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen Church. Rev. Thomas Kraszewski will be the celebrant.

Burial will be at St. Stephen Cemetery with military honors provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard.

Charles J. “Chuck” Buckley, 68

 

BOARDMAN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Saint Charles Church, celebrated by Father Shawn Conoboy, for Charles J. “Chuck” Buckley, 68, who passed away Friday evening at Saint Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Mr. Buckley was born April 12, 1941 in Youngstown, a son of Francis E. and Josephine C. Tobin Buckley. 

He had worked for five years at J. & L. Steel Corporation, also working part-time for five years for the Boardman Fire Department, before becoming a full time fireman. He retired in 2001 after 33 years working for the fire department and then worked for Elliot Landscaping. Upon retiring again, he helped his close friend, Rob Banaie at Austintown Hobby, helping people and flying model helicopters. He loved his home, going to Florida and helping his neighbors, especially Patsy Pollifrone’s family, that he thought of as his family. Chuck was a member of Saint Charles Church.

Besides his wife, the former Kathleen Griffith, whom he married Oct. 26, 1963, he leaves two daughters, Beth A. (Al) Bondar of Youngstown and Amy S. (John) Radosevich of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a brother, Francis “Buck” (Mary Ann) Buckley of Boardman; four grandchildren, Scott (Julie) Bondar, Missy Bondar, Ronald Radosevich and Robbie Radosevich; a great-grandson, Jonah; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Barb Griffith; and nieces and nephews, Michael Griffith, Christina (GO) Brown and son, Griffin, Mark (Shawn Chrystal) Griffith and son, Keighan, Patrick (Stephanie) Buckley and children, Kaden and Kellen, Bridget (Michael) Rahmy and Michael Buckley.

Willie Lee Butler Sr., 85

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Willie Lee Butler Sr., 85, who peacefully passed away at Forum Health Northside Medical Center at 10:20 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2009.

Mr. Butler, who lovingly known as “Buddy” was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Eastman, Ga., a son of Lemon and Emma Jackson Butler.

He worked 39 years at Youngstown Sheet & Tube (LTV Steel), retiring in 1982. His passion was carpentry. He loved building garages, room additions and furniture, while enjoying fishing and family gatherings. He was an Army veteran.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his beloved wife of 58 years, the former Margaret Freeman, whom he married in 1951; his loving children, Diane, Linda (John), Willie (Sheila) Jr., John, Steward, Lamont, Anthony and Nancy (Taylor); one brother, Frank (Lois) Butler of Youngstown; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great- great-granddaughter; and a host of family and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, L. C. and Cleveland Butler; four sisters, Cora Belle Jackson, Lillie M. “Honey” Swain, Louella Butler and Geneva Bunkley.

Carole Christmann, 67

POLAND – A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in celebration of Carole Christmann’s life. Carole passed away early Sunday morning, Oct. 4.

She was born May 5, 1942, the daughter of Anthony and Ann Simione.

Carole was employed for many years as a bartender at the Holiday Bowl. She loved to make trips to Mountaineer Race Track & Casino in her free time.

Carole will always be remembered by her son, Michael A. Christmann of Canfield; a daughter, Lisa Ann George of Mentor; a sister, Mary Ann “Cookie” Ward of Girard; four grandchildren whom she adored, Rachel Ann and Kyle George and Cole and Paige Christmann; and her life partner, Frank Bartholomew.

Dorothy R. (Oster) Clark, 83


AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Dorothy R. (Oster) Clark, 83, who was called home to be with the Lord on Oct. 5, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Dorothy was born Sept. 2, 1926 in Bedford, Pa., a daughter of Clyde and Geraldine (Rose) Miller.

Dorothy was a member of the Ellsworth Presbyterian Church, she was a homemaker, worked for Austintown Schools, retiring in 1983, and had worked as a hostess at various restaurants in the area. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling and taking care of her home.

Dorothy married her first husband, Hubert P. Oster on Dec. 2, 1944 and had a loving marriage and two daughters until his passing on May 15, 1976. Her second husband, Paul Clark, whom she married Dec. 18, 1982, passed away May 18, 2007.

She will be remembered by her daughter, Debra (Robert) Eusanio, her beloved grandson, John Rudolph; sisters, Marilyn Bennett and Glenda Stapleton; son-in-law, John Gomochak; stepchildren, Randy (Edie) Clark, Dennis (Pat) Clark; and her dearest friend, Eleanor Dunkerly.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her beautiful daughter, Vicki Gomochak; her beloved grandson, Stephen Gomochak; sister, Cora Lee Thompson; brothers, Robert and Donald Miller; and stepdaughter, Elsie Price.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to everyone at Paisley House, who provided such compassionate care and support to Dorothy and her family for the time she resided there and to her nurses in 3N.W. (M.I.C.U.) at Forum Health Northside Medical Center, during her final days.

Ron Edwards, 75

ATLANTA – Ron Edwards, 75, died at home Oct. 3, 2009 surrounded by his loving wife, Judy (Lowry) and children, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Youngstown, to the late Charles Ross and Alice (Conlon) Edwards on March 16, 1934.

He graduated from South High School and entered the U.S. Army serving in Nuremburg, Germany, as Chief Enlisted Engineer with the Armed Forces Network. After his discharge, Ron was employed by Loblaws, Inc. and then the Green Giant Company. He served as President of the Grocery Manufacturers Association for several years. While pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree at Youngstown State University, Ron began working for Mold Tech, Inc. In 1976, while employed with Mold Tech, the Edwards family relocated to Atlanta. In 1991, he started his own company, Ron Edwards and Associates, which specializes in mold texturing and chemical engraving.

Ron was an avid tennis player and enjoyed his weekly neighborhood tennis matches with many great friends. He also cherished the life long friendships he formed with the “Sultans” of South High School. A devoted grandfather, "Poppy," gave selflessly to all his grandchildren, spending countless hours holding and rocking them as babies and nurturing the oldest proudly into adolescence. In addition to his wife of 51 years, Ron is survived by his three children, Greg (Jill) Edwards of Atlanta, Wendy (Jeff) Henderson of Tucker, Ga. and Nancy (Chris) Auclair of Savannah; nine grandchildren, Charlie and Emily Edwards; Matthew, Zachary and Caden Henderson; and the quadruplets - Ethan, Brayden, Joshua and Connor Auclair.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Conlon Edwards.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Christian Wake to begin at 7:45 p.m. at Lowndes & McLane Funeral Home, Tucker, Ga., 770-491-3021.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at noon at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3773 Chamblee Tucker Road in Atlanta, GA 30341.

Daniel Alan Foster, 50

EAST PALESTINE – Daniel Alan Foster, 50, of 329 East Main St., died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.

Mr. Foster was born Dec. 25, 1958, in Salem, a son of Herbert and Janice Knight Foster, and had lived here all of his life.

He had been employed as a field service technician for R. B. Watkins/Areva, and prior to that as a customer service salesman at Water Environment Technology.

He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, and had been a fire fighter for the East Palestine Fire Department from 1983 to 1995. He was an avid golfer and marble collector and loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Besides his parents of East Palestine, he is survived by his wife, the former Diane Marie Caylor, whom he married Sept. 13, 1980; two sons, Joshua Foster of East Palestine and Cory Foster of Youngstown; and his mother-in-law, Janet Davis of East Palestine.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at the Centenary United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Martin officiating.

Friends will be received to celebrate Dan’s life at the church fellowship hall following the memorial service.

Dan was a giving person in life and gave in death as an organ donor.

Lucille Camala (Lagare) Scullion Gatchel 83

SALEM – Lucille Camala (Lagare) Scullion Gatchel, 83, died at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at St. Mary’s Alzheimers Center in Columbiana.

She was born on Oct. 31, 1925, in Charleston, S.C., the daughter of the Rupert Walker and Thelma Camala (Coste) Lagare.

She retired in 1980 as a real estate agent with Place Reality and Place Home Construction in Lisbon. She was an active member of the Salem area Democratic party and was known for going door to door during the Salem Mayor Al Mondell election. She was a person who was there to help people in need. She served as a gray lady at Salem Community Hospital, worked on the local government housing programs and working in her gardens at home.

She was preceded in death on Sept. 10, 1998, by her husband, Ralph G. Gatchel, whom she married in 1972.

She is survived by two sons, Larry (wife Janice) Scullion of Dunedin, Fla. and James (wife Gwen) Scullion of Lisbon; a stepson, David (wife Lisa) Gatchel of Columbiana; two stepdaughters, Barbara Warren of Lisbon and Liz Stamp of Salem; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held on Thursday at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral Home in Salem. The burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to your local Alzheimer’s Research Center.


Lois J. Johnson, 67

YOUNGSTOWN – Private services will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Lois J. Johnson, 67, who died Sunday morning at Ron Joy Nursing Home.

Lois was born Aug. 13, 1942 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Bert and Freda (Tressler) Shumaker and was a life long area resident.

Lois worked as a registered nurse for St. Elizabeth Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1995. Lois attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing graduating in 1965 and then completed graduate work at Youngstown State University in 1985. Lois loved and enjoyed being with her cats.

She is survived by her son, Michael and his wife, Lora of Youngstown; her sister, Roberta Sommers of Washingtonville; and stepgrandchildren, Aleesha and Ryan Connell.

She was preceded in death by her son, David.

Gregory M. Kenworthy, 78

BOARDMAN – Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lockwood United Methodist Church for Gregory M. Kenworthy, 78. He went home to God Sunday morning.

Mr. Kenworthy was born Feb. 12, 1931 in Philadelphia, a son of Carl M. and Marjorie Sherman Kenworthy.

He attended Pennsylvania State University and had worked as an insurance agent with Lincoln Financial for 46 years. He retired in 2007. He was a certified life underwriter and a member of Financial Service Professionals for 30 years.

He was a member of the church, enjoyed playing golf and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving him is his wife, the former Laura Ammon, whom he married July 25, 1965; two sons, Steve Kenworthy of Lima and Jeffery Kenworthy of Kingston, Tenn.; a daughter, Kelly Spicher of Jessup, Md.; six grandchildren, September, Samantha, Steven, Natalie, Kyle and Cameren; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his parents is his first wife, Monique Kenworthy, who died Jan. 31, 1962; and a daughter, Jacqueline Hafner, who died Nov. 11, 2004.

Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Irene H. Kuderca, 74

NEW MIDDLETOWN – A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown for Irene H. Kuderca, 74, who died Saturday morning at her home after battling cancer.

 Irene, known as “I” by all who knew her, was born Feb. 24, 1935 in Poland, Ohio, a daughter of John and Mary Chromc Dubec and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a member of the church and had been a homemaker. She was a graduate of Springfield High School in 1953.

Irene had belonged to several gyms in the area, where she enjoyed socializing with other members. She had also enjoyed traveling to New York City during the Christmas season, a trip she had made with her daughter for over 20 years. She also loved her kitty, Smokey, and all pets in general and she was an avid Bob Dylan fan.

Irene married Frank Kuderca on May 19, 1956 and he passed away on Aug. 9, 2008.

 She leaves her daughter, Susie Kuderca of Boardman; a brother, John Dubec of Poland; and two sisters, Mary Romanko of Youngstown and Frances Chaszeyka of New Springfield.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday prior to the services at the church.

Joan K. McClurkin, 74

GIRARD – Joan K. McClurkin, 74, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at her home.

She was born July 31, 1935 in Niles, the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Dorothy A. (Lingeman) McNamara.

Joan graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1956. She was active for many years with the Red Cross Blood Drive in the Girard area and was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard.

She married Thomas J. McClurkin May 11, 1963, and he passed away May 28, 1994.

She is survived by three children, Robert J. (Karen) McClurkin, Patrick J. McClurkin and Erin K. (Phillip) Kachersky, all of Girard; four brothers and sisters, Susan (Ralph) Kelly of Canton, Dennis (Chris) McNamara of Niles, Patricia (Richard) Malone of Liberty and Katherine McNamara of Girard; and eight grandchildren, Grace, Kathryn, Thomas, John, Rose, Daniel, Patrick and Colin.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McClurkin Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Rose Church, with calling hours from 10 to 11 a.m. the church

Interment will be at Girard City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Rose Angel Fund in Girard or St. Stephen Angel Fund in Niles.


Walter R. “Chick” Miles, 84

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be held Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at noon at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Walter R. “Chick” Miles, 84, who departed this life Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at Caprice Health Care Center.

Mr. Miles was born Feb. 24, 1925, in Brownsville, S.C., a daughter of Richard and Viola Gastin Miles, coming to this area in early 1940’s.

He had been employed at Republic Steel Corporation. He was a former member of the Holy Temple C.O.G.I.C., its Deacons and Usher Ministry, and We Walk By Faith Bible Church. He was also a member of the United Steel Workers of America, S.O.A.R., and the N.A.A.C.P.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Helen Christine Thompson; six sons, Charles D. (Irene) Miles, Thomas R. (Karen) Miles, Richard (Shirley) Miles and Jeffrey L. Miles, all of Youngstown, Kenneth M. Miles of San Rafael, Calif. and Reginald D. Miles of Vallejo, Calif.; three sisters, Mary Govan of Queens, N.Y., Annie Hall of Youngstown and Geneva Bevly of Campbell; a brother, Johnny Pierce of Campbell; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Mary Jane Smith Miles of Campbell; and special nephew, Larry Anglin of Youngstown; and host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leon J. Miles; two brothers, Henry Miles and Hardy Pierce; a sister, Helen Mae Miles Cash; and a granddaughter.

Mary E. Nerone, 84

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edwards Church, with the Rev. Msgr. Robert Siffrin officiating, for Mary E. Nerone, 84, who passed away Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mary was born Sept. 14, 1925 in Youngstown, the daughter of Steve Sr. and Mary Olenick Roth.

She was a life long area resident and was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.

Mary was a member of the church and besides being a homemaker, she loved working on her home and yard, and loved her flowers, plants and birdhouses.

Her husband, Anthony “A.P.” Nerone, whom she married on Sept. 24, 1947, passed away on July 27, 1998.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Anita Puskarich of Norton and Darlene (Ray) Marks of Youngstown; two brothers, Frank Roth and Steve Roth Jr., both of Youngstown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Ann Konya.

The Nerone family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m.

John R. “Jack” Reilly, 83

HERMITAGE, PA. – A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, for John R. “Jack” Reilly of 830 Fairfield Drive in Hermitage, who passed away of natural causes at 5:18 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 83.

Mr. Reilly was born March 30, 1926 in Sharon, Pa., a son of John and Irene Flynn Reilly.

He was a lifelong area resident and a 1944 graduate of Sharon High School.

Jack, as he was known by his family and friends, served as a radio operator with the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, Jack attended John Carroll University in University Heights, where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1951.

Jack was employed by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 37 years and retired in 1985 as the plant manager of the Camp Reynold’s Division. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working as a funeral directors assistant at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. in Sharon.

He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church in Sharon, where he served as an usher for many years at the 10 a.m. Mass.

Jack enjoyed a good round of golf and was a member of several leagues throughout the years, including the Westinghouse Men’s retiree’s league at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in Hermitage.

He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge 103 and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 684, both Sharon.

Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and his greatest joy was the time he shared with his family.

A consummate gentleman, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

His wife, the former Sally Grace Tierney, whom he married on Sept. 3, 1949 in St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown, survives at home. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

He also leaves his four children, Sally Coyle of Canfield, John M. Reilly, Susan Kendzor and her husband, James and Daniel Reilly, all of Sharon; seven grandchildren, Kristen Gabriel and her husband, Joseph, Lianna Di Pasqua, Jacqueline, John, and Nicholas Reilly, Natalie Becker and her husband, Scott, and James W. Kendzor; three great-grandchildren, Joseph Michael Gabriel, Tierney Diane Becker and Nadia Marina Reilly- Bailey; and a sister, Jeanne O’Neil and her husband, Charles J. O’Neil of Enon Valley, Pa. and Bonita Springs, Fla.

His parents preceded him in death.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 1090 E. State St. in Sharon.

Robert D. Sheridan, 59

LORDSTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Robert D. Sheridan, 59, who passed away at Trumbull Memorial Hospital on Saturday.

Bob was born on Jan. 27, 1950, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph W. Sheridan and Mary (Houldey) Sheridan.

He was a 1968 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. He worked for General Motors for 42 years as a Material Handler.

Bob was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching the Buckeyes, Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers. He always loved to work outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his family and also with animals.

Bob is survived by his wife, the former Martha King, whom he married on April 25, 1994. Robert also leaves behind five children, Brenden Sheridan of Austintown, Robert T. Sheridan of Austintown, Trevor (Vasna) Sheridan of California, Jennifer Cundall of Warren and Bryan Dedon of Warren. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Hannah, Brooke, Hayden, and Blake Sheridan, all of Austintown, Kenneth Sheridan of California, and Bryan and Ashley Cundall of Warren. Bob also leaves a brother, David Sheridan of Columbus, and a sister, Sandy (Jim) Maxin of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John J. Sova, 95

AUSTINTOWN – John J. Sova, 95, passed away peacefully early Monday afternoon, Oct. 5, 2009, at the Woodlands at AustinWoods.

John, who was also affectionately known as “Miner,” was born Sept. 25, 1914 in Pennsylvania, a son of the late Andrew and Anna Ganofsky Sova, and came to this area with his family as a child.

Mr. Sova was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific, and worked for over 40 years for Isaly Dairy Company on the loading dock at the main plant, retiring in the early 1970s.

John was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown.

Mr. Sova leaves two sisters, Lucille Sova and Rosemary Sova, both of Austintown and a nephew, J.R. Scrip of Youngstown.

John will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Two sisters, Irma Scrip and Eleanor Sova, are deceased.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, and continue at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name of Jesus Church on North Lakeview Avenue in Youngstown.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Virginia Mullane “Ginny” Stimson

MYERSVILLE, MD. – Mrs. Virginia Mullane “Ginny” Stimson, died on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

She was the wife of the late Douglas J. Stimson, who died on Aug. 28, 2004.

She was born in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Daniel and Marie Neville Mullane.

Surviving are her two children, Charles D. Stimson and wife Laura, of McLean, Va. and Lori Stabolepszy and husband Michael of Great Falls, Va.; four grandchildren, Ian and Sophia Stimson and Henry and Charles Stabolepszy.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East Second St. in Frederick, Md. The Rev. Richard Murphy, will be the celebrant.

Interment will be private.

Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church St. in Frederick.

Mary Grace Williams, 77

AUSTINTOWN – Mary Grace Williams, 77, of Austintown, passed away at East Liverpool City Hospital on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Mrs. Williams was born Oct. 29, 1931 in Luverne, Ala., a daughter of Cleveland and Eva Whittler Boyd.

She was a seamstress at Forum Health Northside Hospital and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Mary Dean Mitchell of Dumfries, Va.; a devoted friend, John Graft of Austintown; and a host of nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, William and Lomax Boyd Sr.

Services will be today at 10 a.m. at Howard-Rhoden Memorial Home.

Roy O. Yauman, 84

PETERSBURG – Roy O. Yauman, 84, of 5311 E. Garfield Road, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Mr. Yauman was born on Feb. 4, 1925 on the family farm, where he had still resided, the son of the late Ralph and Frances (Edler) Yauman.

Roy was a life long area resident of Petersburg. He was a retired farmer and rural mail carrier for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1980.

Mr. Yauman was a member of the Paradise Lutheran Church of Western Reserve Road. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the European Theatre serving in Italy. Roy was a member of the Early American Industries Association, Midwest Tool Collectors Association, Ohio Tool Collectors Association, Three Rivers Tool Collection, Missouri Valley Wrench Club, Corn Items Collectors Association, Springfield Township Historical Society, Buckeye Allis Club. He was also well known for growing strawberries for over 69 years and carving wooden miniatures.

Mr. Yauman is survived by his wife, Ruth E. (Koch) Yauman, whom he married on May 27, 1951. He is also survived by two sons, Jeffry (Wilma) Yauman of Ringgold, Ga. and Keith Yauman of Petersburg; two grandchildren, Michelle Yauman and Jason (Angel) Yauman; and one great-grandson, Julian Yauman.

Roy was preceded in death by his infant son, James Arthur Yauman and his brother, Ralph Yauman Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at the Paradise Lutheran Church on Western Reserve Road, with Pastor Alex Hilliard officiating.

Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima and one hour prior to the service at the Paradise Lutheran Church.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, that material contributions be made to Springfield Township Historical Society or the Paradise Lutheran Church.
