Leo Nelson Birkheimer, 84
NEW BEDFORD, PA. Leo Nelson Birkheimer, 84, died Wednesday afternoon at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Leo was born Sept. 5, 1925 in Little, W.Va., a son of Lindsey and Greta Franks Birkheimer. He was raised in Little and moved to New Bedford in 1957.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Leo served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Leo worked as a millwright for Commercial Shearing and Stamping for over 33 years, retiring in 1987.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time at his hunting cabin in Venango County in Pennsylvania and his cottage at Geneva-on-the-Lake.
Besides his wife, the former Dorothy Holliday, whom he married Sept. 21, 1946, he leaves two daughters, Linda (Richard) Melvin of Struthers and Carol Connor of Topeka, Kan.; one son, Nelson (Leann) Birkheimer of Warren; two sisters, Laura Cline and Opal Beach, both of East Liverpool; one brother, Gail Cline of Florida.; five grandchildren, Carrie Drovdlic, Mike Pogozelec, Elizabeth Birkheimer, Samantha Koski and Kenny Gosnel; and eight great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nathaniel and Kathryn Drovdlic, Jonathon, Nathan, Sean and Brandon Koski, and Alex Pogozelec.
Besides his parents, Leo was preceded in death by six brothers, Pete Wheeler, Glenn, Paul, Ralph, Vernon and Paul Cline; and two sisters, Rosalie and Cora Bell Cline.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in\ Struthers.

Wallace B. Burgess Jr.
YOUNGSTOWN A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Wallace B. Burgess Jr. will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Youngstown.
Mr. Burgess known to his family and friends as Yank was born March 19, 1926 in Manning, S.C., a son of Wallace B. and Evan Gibbs Burgess Sr., coming to the valley many years ago.
Mr. Burgess served in the U.S. Army, and was formerly employed as a truck driver and welder with Welder Sales and Service in Youngstown.
His wife, the former Annah Ola Mae Robinson, whom he married Feb. 27, 1948, died May 9, 1994.
He was a devoted father who enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing. He will be truly missed by those who knew him. On Oct. 27, 2009, our heavenly Father cast his eternal light upon his residence and beckoned him home.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving daughters, Deloris and her husband, Vincent Boone, Debbie Pearson, Antoinette White, Margaret Ward, Joan Gamble, Sarah McClure, Cynthia and her husband, Alan Hinton, Sandra Jenkins and Carolyn Gilmore, with whom he made his home; his loving sons, Wallace B. Burgess III and Sam Owens; his brother, John E. and his wife, Janie Burgess; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; his godchildren, Mary O. Robinson and Sam Burns; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Doc. Lee and Arthur Burgess, Randolph Servance and Johnny Stukes; two sisters, Vermell Payne and Ollie Wallace; and two grandsons, Anthony L. Burgess and Hylan Cash.

Arthur James Cooper, 61
YOUNGSTOWN Private services were held Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at the L.E. Black, Phillip & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Arthur James Cooper, 61, who departed this life Oct. 26, 2009.
Mr. Cooper was born July 8, 1948, in Youngstown, a son of Arthur and Deloris Fairconiture Cooper.
He retired from General Fireproofing Company after 20 years of service, and was a Vietnam Army veteran. He was a former member of the Greater Friendship Baptist Church. He loved music, was a collector of albums and was an avid billiard player.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a brother, Otha (Wanda) Cooper of Youngstown; four sisters, Arthurine Cooper and Jewel Cooper, both of Youngstown and Carolyn Cooper and Patricia Cooper, both of Texas; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Delair J. Henry, 89
YOUNGSTOWN Delair J. Henry passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at the Inn at Christine Valley.
He was born in Heilwood, Pa. on Nov. 25, 1919, a son of the late John T. and Maye Bender Henry.
He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 989th Field Artillery Battalion, attached to General Pattons 3rd Army. He moved to Youngstown in 1948, and worked for General Fireproofing retiring in 1984.
He is survived by two sisters, Frances (Charles) Mellott of North Carolina and Cora Empfield of Indiana, Pa.; a brother, Gene (Juanita) Henry of Canfield; a sister-in-law, Mary Henry of Youngstown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Helena Denning Henry; sisters, Helen Bennett and Iva Mitchell; and brothers, Donald, Jay, Wilmer, Dwight (WWII veteran) and Dean (WWII veteran, KIA in the Battle of the Bulge).
The family would like to thank The Inn at Christine Valley and MVI Hospice for wonderful service and care given to Delair.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel, where funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Interment will be held at Green Haven Memorial Gardens, with Full Military Honors.

Joseph Michael Kosko Sr., 74
YOUNGSTOWN - Joseph Michael Kosko Sr., 74, of the citys west side, passed away early Wednesday evening, Oct. 28, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center after a battle with cancer.
Joseph was born June 15, 1935 in Youngstown, a son of the late Michael Ruman and Mary Holecko Kosko and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Kosko worked at Riser Foods in Bedford for nine years, retiring in 1997. He was also previously a truck driver for various companies.
Joe was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown, and was a member the CWV John J. Buckley Post No. 1292. He was also a ham radio operator and in his younger days played softball in the Sokol leagues.
Mr. Kosko leaves his beloved wife of 50 years, Rose Yurcisin Kosko (S.F.O.), whom he married Oct. 3, 1959; two daughters, Sharon Kosko of Youngstown and Jodi Lynn (James) Mika of Parma Heights; a son, Joseph Michael Jr. (Kara) Kosko of Englewood, Colo.; a sister, Dorothy Kello of Austintown; and six grandsons.
Joe will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 30, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown, where the Secular Franciscan Order will have a prayer service at 4:45 p.m.

Ann Marie (Vigieon) Locketti, 81
YOUNGSTOWN A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and prayers offered at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Ann Marie (Vigieon) Locketti, 81, who died Tuesday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Centers Emergency Room due to complications from open heart surgery.
Ann Marie was born May 4, 1928 in Youngstown to the late John Vigieon and Rose Altier. Her father and his brothers immigrated from Italy, some using the Vigieon name others using the Viggiano name.
Ann was known by all who loved her as a fun loving avid Indians fan and she enjoyed bingo, cards, and reading. She had a great love for friendship and family. Ann will be sadly missed by her Friday Night Texas Hold-em Club. She was also known for her crocheted baby blankets. She possessed a great love and passion for her children and grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Matthew Wojtowitz, they married in 1948, and he was killed in 1950 during the Korean War. She married William Locketti in 1954, and he died in 2006. She was also preceded in death by a son, Matthew M. Wojtowicz; infant daughter, Loise Anne; four sisters, Isabelle Genevish, Carmie Edwards Sr., Rosemary Vigieon and Florence Campana; and a brother, Michael Vigieon.
She will be sadly missed by her two sons, William J. (Chris) Locketti of Austintown and James A. (Judy) Locketti of Austintown; her daughter and best friend, Jeana M. (Bobby) Beardman; seven grandchildren, Chad, Cal, Kaleigh, Sheena, Jacob, Robbie and Alexis; good friend and former daughter-in-law, Marcia Locketti; two sisters, Josephine Lomardo and Jerri Howe; a brother Anthony Vigieon; and a sister-in-law, Stella Gucwa.

Michael Luciw, 63
RICHMOND, VA. Michael Luciw, 63, passed away on Oct. 21, 2009 after a long illness.
He was born in Villach, Austria to Ukrainian parents and immigrated to the United States in 1951.
He was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage and participated in many Ukrainian cultural activities.
He is survived by his wife, Olga of 39 years; sons Michael and Gregory of Richmond; two sisters; and two brothers.
He worked for Baskervill & Sons, Hanover Engineers, and was a member of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers. He was one of the founding members of the Tidewater Ukrainian American Cultural Society and served as Humanitarian Aid Director. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Richmond.
Private services were held in Youngstown, Ohio.

Margaret Machingo, 87
Together Forever
YOUNGSTOWN - Margaret Machingo, 87, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 29, 2009, at St. Marys Alzheimers Center in Columbiana.
Margaret was born Feb. 26, 1922 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph and Suzanna Shulak Stanovcak, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church.
She leaves a son, Joseph T. Jr. (Marilou) Machingo of Unionville, Conn.; two daughters, Janet Machingo of Canfield and Barbara (George) Toth of Austintown; three grandchildren, Quentin (Stephanie) Machingo, Taryn Machingo and Christopher Toth; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Owen Machingo; and a brother, Edward (Roseann) Stanovcak of Wickliffe.
Her husband, Joseph T. Machingo, whom she married June 25, 1946, died May 21, 1991.
Six sisters, Katherine Baker, Mary Zelinsky, Sue Jannes, Helen McCooey, Dorothy Miller and Ruth Wieland, and a brother, John Stanovcak, also preceded her in death.
Family and friends are welcome to attend funeral services that will take place on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 10:30 a.m. at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown and continue at 11 a.m. at the Holy Name of Jesus Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Mary L. Machuga, 92
AUSTINTOWN Mary L. Machuga, 92, formerly Mary Louise Policy, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Humility House Wednesday, Oct. 28, where she had resided for the last two years.
Mary was born July 17, 1917, the youngest daughter of the late Albert and Clare Carnavale Policy, and was a lifelong area resident.
Mary Lou was a member of the 1935 The Rayen School graduating class, a member of The Rayen Senior Roll of Honor, the Girls Athletic Association and received an award for never being absent for three years in a row.
She worked at Kresses in downtown Youngstown, for the Diocese of Youngstown under Monsignor Benedict Franzetta, who later became the Auxiliary Bishop, and also in the billing department of St. Elizabeth Health Center. She also did volunteer work for the hospital before her employment. While she and her husband, Joseph, were raising their nine children, she was also active in many clubs and church and school functions.
Mary was a member of St. Anne Altar and Rosary Society during the 1940s and 1950s, St. Edward Confraternity of Christina Mothers during the 1950s and 1960s, St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary, St. Edwards Good Times, St. Edwards Garden Club and the Sacred Heart Retreat House Auxiliary. Mary Lou was a Charter Member of the Youngstown Ohio Federation of Mothers of Twins Club, founded in 1948. She was voted Twins Club Mother of the Year in 1982. When her twins, Patricia and Charles were born on Aug. 6, 1948, she set a record for the first set of full term twins delivered at Forum Health Northside Medical Center. She was also a member of the Mahoning County Seniors.
The family would like to give special thanks to Will, Joyce, Rita and Diane, for taking care of Machuga on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and on the Friday outings on the senior bus. She loved you guys. Over the years Mary Louise was also known to her friends a Ma, Mare Lou, Chuggers, Mommason and Mother Mary.
Mary was an avid seamstress, painter, ceramist, quilter and bowler. She made and contributed a square for the quilts that are hanging in the Arms Museum and in the lobby of St. Elizabeth Health Center. She won numerous blue ribbons for the senior bracket for arts and crafts at the Canfield Fair.
Mary was a devoted mother and homemaker. She spent many afternoons at Crandall Park with her paints and easels, teaching her children the fine art of painting with charcoal, water colors and oils. On Easter Sunday, April 6, 1958, Mary and her children were featured in the Rotogravure section of The Youngstown Vindicator because she had made all the girls Easter dresses, coats, handbags and parasols. Mary and seven of her nine children were often featured guests on WFMJ-TVs Marjorie Mariner Home Cooking Show during the 1950s. Mary and Joe bowled in a mixed doubles league and also on their own personal league for 20 years.
Her husband, Joseph F. Machuga, whom she married on June 30, 1938, preceded her in death on April 27, 1988, just two months prior to their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Her eldest daughter, Mary Ann Elizabeth, passed away April 13, 2002. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Alfred, Albert, Anthony, Robert and Patrick Policy and her sister, Lena Policy Valley Anzevino.
She is survived by her children, Carol Petty Machuga of Willoughby, Joseph (Sandy Stanton) Machuga of Garden Grove, Calif., Charles (Beverly Beck) Machuga of Columbus, Patricia Machuga of Canfield, Thomas (Marie Simione) Machuga of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jeanne Marie (Duane) Woods of Redding, Calif., Cathy (Michael) Pastovich of Austintown and Lisa (James) Callander of Peoria, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Dorene Petty (Michael) Vernia of Las Vegas, Dennis (Caterina Adamic) Petty of Hudson, Charles Jr., Emily and Mary Alice Machuga, all of Columbus, Rebecca Machuga (Ryan) Hubbard of Columbus, Hunter and Taylor Woods of Redding; and four great-grandchildren, Justin Vernia of Las Vegas and Abigail and Julia Petty of Hudson and Ryley Hubbard of Columbus.
The family will receive friends and family at the Schiavone Funeral Home from noon to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. on Monday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edward Church on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at 10:30 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN .Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell for Ronald D. Morrow, 62, who passed away Thursday morning.
Ron was born June 26, 1947 in Salem, the son of Harold and Ann Bowers Morrow.
He was a 1965 graduate of Salem High School and then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy, and was presently a truck driver.
His wife, the former Carol Ann Leipper, passed away in April of 2002.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Ann of Kent; two sons, Jeffrey and James (Irene), both of Youngstown; one grandson, Matthew; two brothers, Gary of Kent and David (Donna) of Vero Beach, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold and wife Carol Ann.

William J. Polis Jr., 55
STRUTHERS Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman for William J. Polis Jr., 55, also known by many as Polecat, who passed away early Wednesday morning, Oct. 28, 2009.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers.
Polecat graduated from Struthers High School in 1972.
Known as a master carpenter, he owned Tri-County Construction. He was very involved in the Struthers community and founded the Save Our Stadium committee.
William was a member of the St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church and a precinct committeeman for the Democratic Party.
William will always be remembered by his wife, the former Eleanor Lee Gentile, whom he married Nov. 14, 1980; his parents, Bill and Peg Polis of Struthers; his three children, Jessica (Josh) Krumpak of Poland, William J. III of Boardman and Joseph Frank at home; two grandchildren, Juliana and Joshua Krumpak; a sister, Gloria (George) Kalafut of Poland; a brother, David (Josie) Polis of Poland; his pets, Gus, Mia, and Philly; many loving nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Polecat cherished spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed riding his Harley and playing the guitar. He will truly be missed by many.

Peter Radakovich, 91
YOUNGSTOWN Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home for Peter Radakovich, 91, who entered into Gods rest Tuesday morning at Meridian Arms Living Center.
Mr. Radakovich was born Aug. 12, 1918, in Stara Krstlja, Yugoslavia.
He and his wife, Hanna, were married Oct. 11, 1947, and came to Youngstown in 1949.
Peter was a plumbing contractor and co-founder of Continental Plumbing Co., where he worked for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Peter was a member of the Martin Luther Lutheran Church since 1953. He was also a member of Local 396 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and a longtime member of the Youngstown Maennerchor Club. Peter enjoyed traveling with Hanna, family and bowling.
Peter will be sadly missed by many, including a sister, a niece and a nephew in Serbia; two nephews, Werner Frenzel of Youngstown and Dieter Frenzel of Lake Milton; a niece, Evelyn Crain of Garland, Texas; and godchildren, Peter Pavlichich, Suzy Montecalvo and Marianne Rinehart.
Besides his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hanna; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kurt and Elisabeth Schlosske.

Joseph R. Reapsummer, 84
GIRARD Joseph R. Reapsummer, 84, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at the Hospice House.
Mr. Reapsummer was born May 19, 1925 to the late John and Gertrude Clemson Reapsummer in Girard.
For 31 years, he worked for Packard Electric as a receiving clerk, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the Girard First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, and was an active member of his Sunday School class. He was also active with his former classmates of Girard, who gather monthly. He enjoyed being a volunteer with Meals -On- Wheels.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy (Robert) Welk of Liberty Township.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Ford, Audrey Reapsummer, Betty Mills, Doris Ridener and Alice Irene Reapsummer; and brother, John Reapsummer.
Private services will be held on Friday at the Girard City Cemetery Chapel.

Cindy was born Aug. 17, 1955 in Youngstown, the daughter of Paul and Norma Jean (Lewis) Ausnehmer.
She was a 1973 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, and was employed as a Production Control Specialist for Hynes Industries for 36 years.
She was a member of the church.
Cindy will be sadly missed by many including her mother, Norma Jean Ausnehmer of Austintown; her husband, Bernard, whom she married Feb. 10, 1984; two daughters, Megan (Michael) McGlynn of Thornton, Pa. and Kelly Repasky at home; two brothers, Paul Ausnehmer of Austintown and David (Patty Jo) Ausnehmer of North Lima; two nephews; and one niece.

Gloria was born June 10, 1941 in Youngstown, a daughter of Modesto and Lucy DiRenzo Frazzini.
She was employed by Walgreens for 13 years.
Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she will be greatly missed by all of them.
Gloria leaves two sons, Ronald (Jennifer) Summerville of Lancaster and Gary (Jennifer) Summerville of Reynoldsville; three daughters, Tina Magallon of Poland, Michelle Snyder of Struthers and Paula Summerville of Struthers; one brother, Ronnie Frazzini of Canfield; one sister, Catherine (J.T.) McKinney of Texas; 10 grandchildren, Raul, Kara, Robert, and Stephanie Magallon, Tony Summerville, Ashley Herring, Brandon, Kiera Summerville, Bryce Summerville and Alyssa Opincar; and eight great-grandchildren.
Gloria was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Paul Jeffrey Snyder and Mikey Summerville; four brothers, Sam, Robert, Joe and Rudy Frazzini; a sister Anna Popovich; and an infant sister, Donna Jean Frazzini.
