David Alvin Droege, 82

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Long-time Anchorage resident David Alvin Droege, 82, passed away peacefully at his home at 3:35 p.m., Aug. 27, 2008, in the presence of his family and close friend, Archbishop Francis T. Hurley.

The funeral Mass will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at St. Patrick’s Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave. in Youngstown. A funeral Mass will be said simultaneously at the Holy Cross Church in Anchorage.

“Dave” was born Aug. 18, 1926, in St. Louis, the son of Walter and Lillian Droege.

Raised in St Louis, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and was in reserve until 1954. He met Rita Ann Cullen in 1945 and they were married in Wiota, Iowa in the summer of 1950.

Shortly afterward, they moved to Alaska where Dave’s first work for the U.S. Postal Service, then sold radio advertisement for KENI Radio, later he became a homebuilder. He retired with the U.S. Postal Service in late 90s. Dave was an avid hunter and fisherman, a carpenter and builder, a gardener and a friend to all.

In his later years, he devoted his time to the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration as a gardener and handyman and he supported them in all their needs. His generosity with everyone knew no limits and he was known for his sense of humor, his kindness and simplicity.

Dave and his wife, Rita resided in Anchorage, where they raised 10 children and are blessed with 26 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Dave was preceded in death by his father and mother Walter and Lillian Droege; his brothers, Walter and Joe; his son, Philip; his daughter Maureen; his granddaughter, Julianna; and great-granddaughter, Carissa

His wife, Rita; his brother, Robert; and his children, Patrick, Robert, Colleen, Mary, Kathleen, Bernard, Michael, and Daniel survive him.

David R. Fitz-Patrick, 89

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Christine Church for David R. Fitz-Patrick, 89, who passed away Saturday morning at Saint Elizabeth Health Center.

Mr. Fitz-Patrick was born July 21, 1919 in Lisbon, a son of Clark B. and Kathryn Gaughan Fitz-Patrick.

He was employed by Erie Lakawanna and Conrail Railroads for 39 years, retiring as an engineer. He served in the Army during WWII.

He was a devoted Catholic and a member of Saint Christine Church. David was the financial secretary for the United Transportation Union. He was a member and past treasurer of the Mahoning Valley Gaelic Society and Gael of the Year 1989 to 1990. David was an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed woodworking, woodturning and stained glass work.

David is survived by his beloved wife, the former Norma McCreery, whom he married Oct. 5, 1939; four sons, David (Marilyn) Fitz-Patrick of Austintown, Kevin (Carol) Fitz-Patrick of Ft. Myers, Fla., Duane Fitz-Patrick of Cleveland and James (Regina) Fitz-Patrick of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Shannon Fitz-Patrick of Hubbard; a sister, Florence Lloyd of Boardman; brothers-in-law, Robert (Theresa) McCreery of New Castle, Pa., and Warren Adair of Largo, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Sandra (Bob) Noday of Canfield and Virginia (Seward) McCreery of Boardman; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents; his four brothers; two sisters; and his daughter-in-law, Darlene Fitz-Patrick. He will be sadly missed.

Irene T. Frazzini, 81

STRUTHERS – Irene T. Frazzini, 81, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008 at Hospice Care Center in Akron.

Mrs. Frazzini was born July 16, 1927 in Lowellville, the daughter of Ervin and Kathryn Mikulas Speerbrecher.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers, a lifetime member and past president of Youngstown Council PTA, and a past den mother of Cubpack 54.

Her husband, Rudolph “Rudy” Frazzini, whom she married Nov. 15, 1955, died Dec. 25, 1983.

She is survived by four children and their families, son, David Chauvin (Ruth Pearch), of Boardman and his children, Dawn, Dylan, and Dana; daughter, Kathryn Frazzini Culver, and husband Kevin of Akron; daughter Susan Beil and husband Jack of Columbus and their children, Jennifer and Rachel; son, Rudy Frazzini Jr., and wife Sally of Independence, Ore., and children Robin and Eric. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and brother, Ray (Donna) Speerbrecher of Boardman.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ervin Speerbrecher Jr.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Margaret M. “Peggy” Horvat, 91

“Together Again”

CANFIELD – Margaret M. “Peggy” Horvat, 91, departed this earth Thursday evening at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a lengthy illness, one month shy of her 92nd birthday.

Mrs. Horvat was born Sept. 27, 1916 in Youngstown, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Mamrak Krajnak.

She graduated from South High School in 1934 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Her husband, Stephen M., whom she married Feb. 15, 1941, died Dec. 20, 1970.

Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt, whose memory will be forever cherished by those she leaves behind.

She leaves a daughter, Jeannette Hodos of Canfield; two sons, Stephen (Lynn) of Canfield and James also of Canfield, with whom she made her home and who was her caretaker; five grandchildren, Leonard (Lynn) Hodos Jr., Andrea (Tom) Fusco, Thomas Hodos, Stephen Horvat and Allison Horvat; and five great-grandchildren, Anthony Hodos, Jaclyn Hodos, Bryan Hodos, Michael Fabian, and Cory Fusco.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Kraynak; her sister, Helen Bobala; and her son-in-law, Leonard Hodos Sr.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Kubina Yuhasz Funeral Home in Boardman.

There will be funeral services Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Austintown.

Matthew H. Lawrence, 74

MINERAL RIDGE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Niles, with the Rev. Thomas Kraszewski officiating, for Matthew H. Lawrence, 74, who passed away at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Matt was born Jan. 23, 1934 in Niles, the son of the late Stephen P. and Anna (Slidy) Lawrence, and resided in the area all of his life.

Matt was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 38 years of service to his country.

Matt was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed doing carpentry work for others, making bird houses and picnic tables and doing cabinetry work.

Matt was a member of the church, the VFW Post 1492 of Mineral Ridge, and the Retirees of the Air Force Reserves.

Matt is survived by a daughter, Janell (Gary) Carr of Wichita, Kan.; a son, Ed (JoAnn) Savage of North Jackson; a brother, Joe (Joan) Lawrence of Massachusetts; and a grandson, Matthew Carr.

Besides his parents, Matt was preceded in death by his wife, the former Georgia Fatsos, whom he married Dec. 6, 1958 and who passed on June 3, 2004; four brothers, Ed, Steve, Frank, and Jim Lawrence; and a sister, Ann Hutzler.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel, where closing prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. before leaving for the church.

Interment with full military honors will take place at St. Stephen’s Cemetery by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.

David A. Lindsay, 58

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for David A. Lindsay, 58, who died early Friday morning in Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home in Fowler.

He was born April 14, 1950 in Youngstown, a son of Rolance Lindsay and Anita (Dunn) Lindsay Crider, and he resided in this area all of his life.

He was a 1969 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and he served his country in the U.S. Army.

He worked for the Holiday Inn for several years as a maintenance operator. He was a member of the Highway Tabernacle Church, where he loved to attend gospel concerts, and he also enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. He was always quick with a joke and loved to put a smile on someone’s face.

He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Corll, whom he married April 18, 1992.

He also leaves his mother, Anita Crider of Boardman; and a brother, Gary (Linda) Lindsay of Niles.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends may call for one hour prior to services on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Eleanor M. “Toots”

Lucido, 78

LOWELLVILLE – Eleanor M. “Toots” Lucido, 78, of East Wood Street, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at her residence with her family at her side.

Toots was born Jan. 29, 1930 in Youngstown, a daughter of Chester and Eleanor Sloan Lagnese, and was a lifelong Lowellville resident.

She was a 1948 graduate of Lowellville High School, a member of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, where she was a former member of its Ladies Guild, a former member of the Mt. Carmel Society, the Lowellville Senior Citizens, and the Lowellville Boosters.

Toots was known and loved for her delicious Italian cooking and baking, especially her fabulous pies. She was always full of energy and a caretaker to all.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James “Jim” Lucido, whom she married Aug. 4, 1951; one daughter, Cindy (Ron) Perry of Lowellville; two sons, David Lucido of Austintown and Dr. Jim (Carrie) Lucido of Alliance; and seven granddaughters, Ronda (Keith) LaMont, Danielle, Deanna, Amanda, Brittany, Jamie and Dana Lucido, and soon to be born great-granddaughter, Isabella Marie LaMont.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two uncles, Frank and Mike Lagnese.

Family and friends will be received Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville, and Tuesday from 9 to 9:45 a.m., where prayer services will be held at 10 a.m.

Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, with Rev. G. David Weikart officiating.

Interment will follow at the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery.

E.D. “Muzzy” Mazzocco, 73

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – Services were held Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at St. Anthony Church in San Jose, for E.D. “Muzzy” Mazzocco, 73, who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, at his home.

Muzzy was born Feb. 8, 1935, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Rose Mazzocco.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Muzzy received his Bachelor of Science in engineering, from Youngstown State University, where he was a member of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity.

In 1963, he moved to San Jose, and worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and General Electric.

He also owned and operated several businesses.

Muzzy is survived by his wife, the former Marie DiRenzo, whom he married June 16, 1962; two sons, Joe (Wendi) Mazzocco and John Mazzocco; a daughter, Christine (Barron) Fong; and four grandchildren, Lily and Tessa Mazzocco and Anthony and Angela Fong, all of San Jose.


Gordon L. Mock, 71

STRUTHERS – There will be services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for Gordon L. Mock, 71, who passed away Saturday at home.

Gordon was born July 11, 1937 in Spangler, Pa., a son of William H. and Viola Craig Mock and came to this area in 1947.

He was an antenna installer for Tony’s TV for 10 years and worked as a cleaner for Altimate Building and Maintenance. He was a fast pitch softball pitcher for many years in the area and was of Lutheran faith.

He leaves his daughters, Barbara Toth of Girard and Susan (Richard) Oros of Hubbard; his grandsons, Dean (Michelle) Valley, John (Heather) Cooper, Steven (Dominique) Valley, Brock Oros, and Paul Toth; nine great-grandchildren; and his love of many years, Patricia Zdelar.

He also leaves his siblings, Robert (Joan) Mock of Florida, Ronald (Katrina) Mock of West Virginia, Yolanda Shubert of Hubbard, Sandy (Mickey) Mraz of Youngstown, Terry (Judy) Mock of Youngstown, James (Susie) Mock of Girard, and Bonnie White of Youngstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Timothy L. Mock; brothers, Gerald Mock and William Mock Jr.; and a sister, Judy Burnett.

There will be calling hours on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.

Jean Marie Ong, 77

AUSTINTOWN – Services will be at noon Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Jean Marie Ong, 77, who passed away Saturday at her home.

Jean Marie Ong was born Dec. 31, 1930 in Youngstown, the daughter of Marguerite (Mehlo) Hottinger and Bernard Hottinger.

She graduated from Chaney High School with honors and attended the nursing program at Youngstown State University. She later studied at YSU to obtain a Real Estate Broker’s License. She was a former member of Pilgrim Collegiate Church and more recently Austintown Community Church, where she was a member of the Joyous Believers.

Jean married Raymond L. Ong, of Youngstown, Aug. 2, 1950.

She was active in many career, social and community activities throughout her life. Jean was a Real Estate Agent with Moore Real Estate and later brokered her own agency, Medallion Reality. She was a board member with the Bergman Group, past president of the local PTA, and a member of the Youngstown Saxon Club. She was active, along with her husband, on the Korean War Veterans Society and other veterans’ organizations. Jean was a published poet, an avid painter and gardener, and an astute pianist.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Sergeant William Hottinger USMC, who died in a POW camp; a brother, Bernard Hottinger; and a daughter, Susan, who died in infancy.

She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Raymond Ong; a daughter, Marguerite (Gary) Harkleroad of Austintown; a son, Mark and fiancée Linda Mayer of Sagamore Hills; two grandchildren, Jason (Sara) Harkleroad of East Liverpool and Matthew (Christina) Harkleroad of Pickerington, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Drake and Emmit.

Elizabeth Ann Ostrowski, 64

AUSTINTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Austintown for Elizabeth Ann Ostrowski, 64, who passed away peacefully Friday evening at the Hospice House in Poland.

“Betty,” as she was affectionately known, was born Oct. 4, 1943 in Youngstown, a daughter of William J. and Rebecca F. (Ackworth) Orr Sr., and she resided in this area all of her life.

She was a 1961 graduate of North Lima High School and worked as a district manager for Avon Products for 29 years before retiring in 2000. She was a four-time achiever of Avon’s “Circle of Excellence.”

She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and she also belonged to the North Coast PT Cruisers in Cleveland. She was the Queen Mother of the Red Hats ”Sassy Classy Ladies.”

Betty loved reading, walking and watching movies, and she really enjoyed playing on the computer and going to Mountaineer with her family and friends. She also loved the Cleveland Indians.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Joseph C. Ostrowski, whom she married April 10, 1965; and three daughters, Theresa (Tomi) Otake of Los Angeles, Christine (John) Thomas of North Lima, and Jennifer Belknap of Austintown. She also leaves a brother, William J. (Joyce) Orr Jr. of Boardman; a sister, Jean (Michael) Cochran of Columbiana; and four grandchildren, Michela Thomas, Jackson Belknap, and Vincent and Joey Otake.

She was preceded in death by her infant twin daughter, Tina Marie, and her parents.

Betty was a funny, energetic, kind and gentle soul, and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Marie J. Ponzani, 78

YOUNGSTOWN – Marie J. Ponzani, 78, passed away Thursday afternoon, Aug. 28, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, with her family by her side.

Marie was born June 24, 1930 in Painesville, a daughter of the late Nick and Sarah Bordonaro Scarazzo, and came to this area as a child.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Christine Church in Youngstown.

Marie enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, and most importantly, she cherished the time she spent with her family.

Mrs. Ponzani leaves her beloved husband of 60 years, Benny Ponzani, whom she married March 20, 1948; her son, Robert Ponzani of Youngstown; her daughter, Cheral Anthony of Youngstown; three grandchildren, Eric (Janice) Ponzani, Donald (Monica) Anthony, and David (Kcey) Anthony; four great-grandchildren, Lauren, Kylie, Bernardino, and Gianni; a brother, Larry Scarazzo of Youngstown; and three sisters, Virginia Paloci of Youngstown, Shirley (William) Schaffer of Youngstown, and Dorothy Baltes of Youngstown.

Marie will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents, Marie was preceded in death by a sister, Viola D’Avanzo.

Florence L. Reardon, 84

BOARDMAN – Prayers will begin Tuesday morning at 10:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church for Florence L. Reardon, 84, who passed away Friday morning at the Hospice House.

Florence was born Oct. 23, 1923 in Youngstown, the daughter of George W. and Aurelia Ward Dell.

She was a 1941 graduate of Wilson High School, where she was a cheerleader. She began her 37 year retail career at the Strouss’ Department Store in Youngstown, after decades of faithful service she retired from Kauffmans in the Southern Park Mall. Although “Flo” did not realize her wish of becoming a Rockette, she was a Can-Can dancer and was named Miss Strouss after winning its pageant.

Florence was devout in her religious faith, a former member of St. Dominic and a current active member of St. Charles, where she served as a eucharistic minister and was a member of the Seton Circle III. Always generous with her time, she had also volunteered at Beeghly Medical Park.

Flo was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, she was a member of the Millcreek, Valley, and the Mohawk Golf League and the St. Charles Bowling League. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by five daughters, Susann (Dr. Larry) Spoljaric of Wadsworth, Barbara J. (Raymond) Villani of Boardman, Jayne (Del) Sinchak of Boardman, Molly Reardon of Boardman, and Beth Reardon of San Antonio, Texas; two sons, Joseph W. (Margaret) Reardon of Newport, Ark., and Patrick (Peggy Jo) Reardon of Hudson; a brother, William (Bess) Dell of East Moline, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her husband Joseph W. Reardon, whom she married Nov. 22, 1947, died Aug. 4, 1974.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Anne M. Slattery; and two brothers, George W. Dell Jr. and Raymond P. Dell.

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Hospice House in Florence’s memory.

Marie “Aunt Marie” Williams, 100

POLAND – Private funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, with Rev. Msgr. John Zuraw officiating, for Marie “Aunt Marie” Williams, 100, who peacefully passed away on Wednesday afternoon from a courageous short term battle with cancer and her loving family was by her side.

Aunt Marie will always live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

She was born July 22, 1908 in Youngstown, the daughter of Vincent and Felicetta (De Mar) Williams and was a lifelong area resident.

Aunt Marie was employed as a secretary at Rossi Bros. Funeral Home from 1929 until her retirement.

She was a graduate of Niles High School, and attended Youngstown College.

Aunt Marie was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown, the Y.W.C.A. Junior Woman’s Club, Staff Business Club, Oblate Religious Club, Catholic Daughters of America, and Northside Lanes Women Bowling League.

Aunt Marie loved to cook and bake especially for her nephews Louis Jr. and Armond. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and traveling throughout Europe and the United States.

She leaves behind to hold on to her memories her two nephews, Atty. Armond V. (Alice) Rossi of Poland, and Dr. Vincent (Andrea) Williams of Cincinnati, two nieces Elvera Rossi Cannatti of Poland and Carrie Rossi of Liberty, and numerous great-nieces and nephews, along with a host of cousins and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Patrick L. Williams; a sister, Isabella (Louis Sr.) Williams Rossi; a brother-in-law, Joseph Cannatti; a nephew, Louis Rossi Jr.; and her beloved dog, Beffa.
