Joan Eileen Beck, 77
HUBBARD Joan Eileen Beck, 77, died Thursday morning, Nov. 5, 2009, at Liberty Health Care.
She was born Sept. 4, 1932 in Girard, a daughter of William E. Sr. and Frances Marie Swift OConnell and was a lifelong area resident.
A homemaker, Mrs. Beck had formerly worked as a keypunch operator for McKelveys Department Store and Ohio Leather.
She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard since 1954, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Womens Cursillo.
She did volunteer work for the American Red Cross and at Northside Medical Center. She attended St. Rose Elementary School, graduated from Girard High School in 1950 and furthered her education by taking computer classes at Youngstown State University.
Joan had a deep Catholic faith and saw that her five children had a Catholic education at St. Patrick School in Hubbard.
Her husband, Donald M. Beck, whom she married May 21, 1954, died May 15, 1967.
She leaves two sons, Brian J. (Mary) Beck of Youngstown and Kerry S. (Lynne) Beck of Hubbard; two daughters, Donna Mahoney of Hubbard and Erin Mary (Joseph) Angelo of Canfield; her adored sister, C. Norene OConnell of Girard; a sister-in-law, Joyce McAllister OConnell of Girard; 11 grandchildren, Tommy and Joe Mahoney, Julia and Brian Jr. BJ Beck, Katin, Sydney, Madison and Trey Angelo and Jenifer, David and Ian Haynes; and a great-grandchild, Avalon Rose Maywhort.
She was preceded in death by a beloved son, Kelly John Beck, with whom she made her home, who died Oct. 16, 2009; and an infant daughter, Ann Beck and her husband.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, William E. OConnell Jr., James F. OConnell and infant, John; and two sisters, Ann Rita Nancy Prevosnak and Mary Elizabeth Betty Scott.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church.

Quincy Carnathan, 38
YOUNGSTOWN Funeral services will be held at the Jerusalem Baptist Church on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at 11 a.m. for Quincy Carnathan, 38, who departed this life on Nov. 1, 2009 in Columbus.
Quincy was born June 1, 1971, the son of Tommy Jones and Mary Ann Carnathan in Youngstown.
He was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Quincy was a proud Golden Bear, graduating from East High School in 1991. He enjoyed playing video games and watching movies. He was an avid NFL and NBA fan. Lebron James was his favorite athlete.
Quincy had an adventurous and curious spirit. If he did not know something, he would definitely ask. He will also be remembered for his beautiful smile.
Quincy loved his grandmother Eulas cooking, especially her famous homemade rolls, fried chicken, and grilled barbecued ribs.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted grandmother, Eula Mae Carnathan; a brother, Roger Carnathan; an uncle, Cecil (Renee) Carnathan, all of Youngstown; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Carnathan; grandfather, Leo Carnathan; an uncle, Leroy Carnathan; and an aunt, Essie Carnathan.

Rose Marie Drozda, 83
AUSTINTOWN Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church with Msgr. John Zuraw officiating, for Rose Marie Drozda, 83 who passed away Nov. 5 after a valiant struggle with cancer.
Rose Marie was born April 2, 1926, in Youngstown, the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth Schimpf Rogenski
She married Steven D. Drozda on Nov. 29, 1947. Together they had four children whom they loved very much.
Rose Marie, formerly of Campbell and recently residing in Austintown, loved to dance. She was known as the Polka Queen of Victoria House Assisted Living and was always ready with a smile and a dance for all whom she met.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steven; her sisters, Elizabeth DAmico and Ethel Szelazek; and a brother, Walter Rogenski.
Rose Marie will be remembered for her sweet nature, the twinkle in her eye and above all, her passion for the polka dance. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her children, Elizabeth (James) Mancini, Dolores (William) Yurchyk, Steven (Debra) Drozda and Andrea (Douglas) Sage. Her grandchildren, Jessica Mancini, Brittany Yurchyk, John Yurchyk and Zarek and Zevan Drozda will fondly remember her stories and all of the love that she gave to them. Her brother, Thomas Rogenski and nieces and nephews will also miss her greatly and cherish their memories of her.
The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Victoria House for the love and care that they gave to Rose Marie during her time in residence. Rose Marie loved them greatly and considered them a part of her family. Her children would also like to thank her doctors and the staff of Hospice of the Valley for the excellent care they provided.
The Drozda family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Robert P. Edel, 77
NORTH JACKSON Robert P. Edel, 77, passed away early Thursday morning, Nov. 5, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland after a brief battle with cancer.
Robert, who was known to all as Bob, was born Jan. 26, 1932 in Youngstown, a son of the late Eugene and Helen Lipjanic Edel, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1950 graduate of Chaney High School, and was a graduate of Youngstown College, earning a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
Mr. Edel served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War, and subsequently served for 42 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was a liaison officer to the Air Force Academy and retired from the Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel.
In his younger days, Bob worked delivering furniture for Strouss Department Store and also worked at the personnel office at the Vienna Air Base. He then worked for 25 years for the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, in Cleveland, retiring as a compliance officer in 1989.
After his retirement from the Department of Labor, Bob enjoyed a part-time job in the pro shop at Diamondback Golf Course for more than 10 years.
He was a member of St. James Church in North Jackson, and was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed golfing and fishing, and was an umpire with the Youngstown Umpire Association, officiating mens softball games and high school tournaments.
Most importantly, Bob enjoyed the time he spent with his family.
Mr. Edel leaves his wife, Johanne F. Priore Edel, whom he married on June 1, 1957; a daughter, Theresa (Mark) Young of Ellsworth; a grandson, Nicholas Young of Ellsworth; his father-in-law, William F. Priore of Lynchburg; and a brother-in-law, William Priore and his daughter, Megan, both of Lynchburg.
Bob will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Raymond Edel and an infant sister, Anna Jean.
Family and friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, at St. James Church.

A committal service with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

FORT WAYNE, IND. Olga (Stamatakis) Georgouses, 83, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009.
Born in Youngstown, she was employed in the chem lab as a researcher with Zenith Corp, and was also owner of Patrician Home Decor in Chicago.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who loved her family and loved life.
She trained for years to be an Olympic diver until she met the man of her dreams, her husband of 61 years, Harry Georgouses of Fort Wayne.
She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, the Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos.
She was survived by daughter, Eva (Jerry) White of Hudson, Ind; grandson, George (Diane) Mavronicolas; sister-in-law, Stella Georgouses of Chicago; nieces and nephews, John, Gina, John, Stella and Cyril; grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) White and Adam (Katie) White, both of Indianapolis; and great-grandchildren, Alaina, Vanessa and Cameron.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Holy Trinity (Greek) Eastern Orthodox Church, 110 E. Wallen Road, with calling hours one hour prior to services with Father Paul Bebis officiating.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, with a Trisagion service at 8 p.m.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Fort Wayne.

LOWELLVILLE Alberta A. Grant, 56, died Thursday evening, Nov. 5, 2009, at the St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Mrs. Grant was born Feb. 2, 1953 in Hillsville, Pa., a daughter of Albert and Anne Mariotti.
She was a 1971 graduate of Lowellville High School. Mrs. Grant was a member of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and a member of the Ladies of Mt. Carmel Society.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 36 years, Paul Grant Sr., whom she married Nov. 10, 1973; one son, Paul Grant Jr. of Lowellville; one daughter, Stacy (Brian) Kalitich of Lowellville; two brothers, William (Mary Agnes) Mariotti of Boardman and Phillip (Mary) Mariotti of Canfield; and two grandchildren, Zachary and Devon Grant.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville, where prayer services will be Monday at 10 a.m.
A funeral Mass will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville.
Interment will follow at the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery.

John D. Hernan, 84
YOUNGSTOWN There will be prayer service at 9:15 a.m. on Monday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Christine Church, for John D. Hernan, 84, who passed away Friday morning at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Hernan was born July 25, 1925, in Youngstown, the son of Michael J. and Elizabeth C. Higgins
Hernan and has been a lifetime area resident. He was a graduate of East High School, and was a carpenter. He had worked for Aeroquip and retired after 35 years. He was a member of St. Christine Church and its Booster Club, Charter member of the Mahoning Valley Gaelic Society, Member of Knights of Columbus, long time member of Ursulines Booster Club, and an avid Notre Dame fan.
John was a devoted father and grandfather, who attended all of their sporting events and activities.
Besides his wife, the former Virginia Sentz, whom he married June 29, 1946, he leaves five daughters, Kathleen (Joe) Guerrieri of Canfield, Patricia McFall of Boardman, Virginia (Mike) Christoff of New Springfield, Barbara (Bill) Booker of Berlin Center and Kelly (Ted) Houck of Columbiana; two sons, John (Jane) Hernan of Poland, Thomas (Margaret) Hernan of Boardman; a sister, Margaret Mary Bell of Youngstown; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Hernan; four sisters, Gertrude VanSack, Rita LeViseur, Elizabeth Gondel and Theresa Johnson.

Bob Lucky Luckage, 50
NILES Bob Lucky Luckage, 50, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, Nov. 4, 2009, at his home.
Bob was born Nov. 6, 1958 in Youngstown, a son of Richard and Dorothy Hosler Luckage, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1977 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and was the manager of the Villa Arms Motel in Niles for the past 22 years. He had also worked for Bliss Manufacturing for a time.
Bob loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle, was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings, enjoyed dining out, and especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family and many friends.
Mr. Luckage leaves his mother, Dorothy Luckage of Austintown; three brothers, Rick Jr. (Erika) Luckage of New Waterford, Rex (Debbie) Luckage of Austintown and Eric (Nydia) Luckage of Columbus; a sister, Sherry (Bruce) Carothers of Lordstown; nieces and nephews, Richard Luckage III, Haley Luckage, Dawn Luckage, Isabella Luckage, Joshua Kollat, Kendra Braham and Dylan Kollat; his longtime companion, Briget Brahler of Mineral Ridge; his stepmother, Gretchen Selikson Luckage of Austitnown; and two stepbrothers, Brad Lude of Salem and David (Susan) Lude of Wilmington, N.C.
Lucky will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
His father, Richard Luckage Sr., passed away May 11, 2009.

SALEM Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church for Anna V. Rushwin, 89, formerly of Russell Avenue in Youngstown. She passed away Friday morning at Salem Community Hospital.
Mrs. Rushwin was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Coketon, W.Va., a daughter of Martin and Rosalia Yuracek Rom.
She was a graduate of South High School. She had worked for G.F. Business Equipment, Truscon Steel Company, was kitchen manager at the Golden Drumstick, and retired from the Days Inn Restaurant in 1978.
Her husband, Joseph Thomas Rushwin, whom she married May 1, 1942, died March 17, 1978.
Anna was a member of the church, D.A.R. and of the Holy Name Altar Rosary Society.
Surviving her is a son, Joseph T. Rushwin Jr. of Youngstown; a daughter, Beverly (Gary) Rine of Hanoverton; four grandchildren, Eric and Nicholas Rushwin, Sara Hill and Jennifer Arden; and four great-grandchildren, Shaun Miller, Ryan and Macey Hill and Elijah Arden.
Preceding her in death besides her husband and parents are three brothers, John, Frank and Peter Rom and two sisters, Mary Morano and Mother Superior Sister Mary Angelica.
Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
