Community Church of God plans to honor pastor who is retiring
CAMPBELL The Rev. Catherine E. Rexford, pastor of Community Church of God, 710 Sanderson Ave., will be honored at a retirement celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at Archangel Michael Church parish center, 401 12th St.
Guest speaker will be the Rev. Clayborn Giles, senior pastor of Sherrick Road Church of God, Canton. Tickets are $30; call Kisha Sullivan, chairperson, at (330) 744-4972.
The Rev. Ms. Rexford has served as the senior pastor of the Campbell church since 1990 when it was known as Himrod Church of God. From 1989-91, she was a radio speaker on WGFT on Saturday mornings and from 1979-89, she was assistant pastor and youth pastor at Himrod Church.
From 1970-79, she was a senior missionary pastor at Emmanuel Mission in Wanblee, S.D., on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. She also served as a foster mother to 33 children. From 1976-77, she taught kindergarten- through sixth-grade religious education at Eagle Nest Indian School in Wanblee. From 1968-70, she was a teacher at C.L. Lane Bible Institute of Scriptural Meditation Evangelical Association in Transfer, Pa.
Ms. Rexford has a master's degree in theology from International Bible Seminary in Florida.
She was licensed to preach in May 1965 under the Evangelical Church of God in Transfer and transferred her ordination into the Church of God in Anderson, Ind., in 1981.
In the community, Ms. Rexford has worked with Crime Watch in Youngstown.
In the church, she has served on the board of pastoral and church relations on the district and state levels and chairperson of the Northeast Ohio board of pastoral and church relations in Ohio. She also is a supervising minister to ordination candidates in Ohio.
