East Palestine tames the Tigers



Canfield hit four homers in a Hawaiian Tropic tournament win.

EAST PALESTINE — East Palestine junior pitcher Nick Baiamonte won his 10th straight game, ending an 11-game win streak by Springfield senior Jeremy Savaet in the process, as the Bulldogs upended the Tigers 9-2 in an Inter Tri-County League Tier One game on Tuesday.

Baiamonte, who improved to 3-0 this season, struck out eight and walked three in pitching six innings of one-hit ball for the Bulldogs (7-0, 4-0). Wes Best had three hits and four RBIs.

Savaet gave up five runs in five innings for the Tigers (7-2, 4-1), who managed just two hits in the game.

Wilson 3, Youngstown Christian 2

YOUNGSTOWN — Jarvis Tabb tossed a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks for Wilson. Victor Cardarelli scored twice.

Ed Gonda had three hits and struck out 12 for YCS, while Josh Bell had two hits and scored a run.

Fitch 1, Midland, W.Va. 0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Sophomore Jason Bagoly had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth when he knocked in Chuck Olesky in the first game of the Hawaiian Tropic Tournament.

Bagoly also had a triple. Junior Mike Olenych pitched a two-hitter over 61/3 innings, striking out six, and Steve Gruver followed with 2/3 innings of relief. Olenych, a junior, had six strikeouts.

Corey Miller and Jeremy Ash had a single apiece for Midland.

Pittsford (N.Y.) 10, Fitch 0 (6 inn.)

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Kyle Menard had a double and single for Pittsford (2-0) in a game shortened by the 10-run rule.

Junior Nick Wiery had a double and two singles for Fitch (4-2).

COCOA BEACH, Fla. — Zach Jones singled, walked three times and scored three runs in the Cocoa Expo.

Dom Lariccia doubled and scored twice, while L.J. Sheromofski had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice for the Wildcats (5-3).

Canfield 16, Cazenovia (N.Y.) 6

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Tom Cheslik homered, doubled, singled and drove in three runs to lead Canfield in the Hawaiian Tropic Tournament.

John Pitzulo added two hits, including a homer, and three RBIs, Mike Hoelzel had two hits and three RBIs, Drew Turocy had two hits and D.J. Haurin and Mark Carrocce each added a homer for the Cardinals (6-0).

Salem 11, Liberty 6

LIBERTY — Dan Fortney, Sean McKee and Nick Lesky each had two hits and two RBIs for Salem

Ben Stoyak hit a three-run homer for Liberty and scored two runs.

Hubbard 2, Niles 0

NILES — Junior Frank Palestro had five strikeouts and one walk in throwing a three-hitter.

Junior Corey Hitt had two singles and scored for Hubbard (4-4).

Evan Bollinger, Mike Kelly and Billy Eddy each had a single for Niles.

Western Reserve 6, Leetonia 3

BERLIN CENTER — Dave Drevna and Jerod Barker combined on a three-hitter, while Barker also had three hits and an RBI. Drevna had two RBIs and Steve Stack had an RBI double for Reserve (4-2, 3-2).

Leetonia is 2-4, 2-3.

Crestview 4, Mineral Ridge 3

COLUMBIANA — With the game tied 3-3 and one out in the last of the ninth inning, Brian Bechtel tripled for Crestview.

After two intentional walks loaded the bases, Bechtel scored on a fly out.

Tim Ridzon (3-0) struck out 11 and threw a five-hitter for the Rebels.

Lowellville 12, Wellsville 2

WELLSVILLE — Cody Vocature pitched a four-hitter while John Wilaj and Ryan Gruber each had three singles and two RBIs to pace Lowellville, which sprayed 17 hits.

John Calderon also had three hits with one RBI to aid the Rockets (4-3, 4-1 Inter-Tri-County League), who scored eight runs in the fifth inning.

Louisville 6, West Branch 2

LOUISVILLE — Willy Graham had two hits and Trent Woods added a double for the Warriors (6-2, 3-2 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).

Louisville is 3-4, 1-3.

Ravenna 6, Southeast 0

RAVENNA — Corey Tilden pitched a no-hitter for Ravenna, which got four hits.

Sean Meers drove in two runs for Ravenna (3-3, 1-2 Portage Trail Conference).

Southeast is 2-4, 0-2 PTC.

Canfield hit four homers in a Hawaiian Tropic tournament win.
