Hubbard tops Girard, takes lead in TAC race
Crestview stayed unbeaten with an ITCL win over Lisbon.
HUBBARD Senior Sophie Paddock had 23 kills, nine points and five blocks Tuesday to lead the Hubbard High volleyball team to a 26-24, 29-27, 25-20 victory over Girard in a Trumbull Athletic Conference match.
Maggie Bogdan added six blocks, Kim Budd had 14 digs and Lauren Ferguson had 34 assists for the Eagles (9-1, 7-0), whose lone loss came against state-ranked Frankfort Adena.
"Basically, it was just a big boxing match," said Hubbard coach Chuck Montgomery, whose Division II team was ranked 12th in Ohio in the latest coaches poll. "We had a little bit of an edge late in the games and our seniors really stepped up for us.
"I think the scores indicate how close it really was," Montgomery said. "The first two games could have gone either way."
The Eagles rallied from a 24-22 deficit in the first game and a 23-20 deficit in the second then took control in the third. The two teams will meet again on the final day of the regular season.
Cassie Guerrieri had 10 kills for Girard (11-2, 6-1), which was ranked eighth in Div. III. Alysha Nickels had 39 assists, Ashley Palmer had 14 points and Elise Roscoe added eight digs.

LIBERTY Morgan Bonekovic had 23 kills, 22 digs and 10 blocks while Taralee Williams had 14 points, four aces and 36 assists to lead Brookfield (7-5, 3-4 TAC). Hillary Christy added five kills.
For Liberty (7-3, 4-3 TAC), Megan Kay had 12 kills, 26 points, three aces and 25 digs.
Jessie Szakacs had 12 kills, 17 points, one ace and 21 assists to lead the Leopards. Katie Greaf chipped in with 16 digs and Jessie Knez 13 kills.

CHAMPION Amber Ackerman led the Golden Flashes (3-8, 0-7 TAC) with five points. LeAnn Thompson had 14 assists. Jackie Knepp had six digs. Brittany Zickefoose scored nine points to pace the Tigers (4-8, 1-7). Kelsey McGregor had 10 kills and a block. Stephanie Blair had 15 assists.

COLUMBIANA Elyse Mongillo scored eight points and had 27 assists, six digs and three kills in leading unbeaten Crestview.
Kyler Thompson had 14 kills while Rachell Storm had eight kills, three digs and six points.

BERLIN CENTER Brittany Boyer scored 18 points and made four kills and four blocks for the Blue Devils (5-4, 4-2 Inter-Tri-County League Tier Two).
Claire Ferrando scored 20 points and made three digs and seven passes. Victoria Brown scored five points and made three kills and five blocks.
For the Rockets (5-6, 2-4), Alison Grapevine made five kills and 12 blocks. Rachel Mariotti had four aces and five digs while Casey Wilson made 11 assists.

NORTH JACKSON Jennifer Kolasky scored 14 points with three aces to spark the Bluejays (8-2, 5-0 ITCL Tier Two). Jessica Shively had 40 sets and 12 assists while Krista Kiraly had 20 digs.
Nikki Huston scored seven points with a pair of aces for the Bears. Valerie Goerig had eight kills while Emily Goerig had 16 digs and four kills.

SEBRING Chelsea Neeb had 10 points, three aces and five kills while Briana Jones had seven points, one ace and 21 assists to spark Sebring (2-6, 1-4 ITCL Tier Two).
Tricia Easton added six points, one ace, four kills and four blocks and Katie Wilson six points, two aces and three kills to also lead the Trojans.
Southern (0-11) was led by Emily Ramsey with six points, four aces, nine kills and three blocks and Paula Bergert with seven points, one ace and 39 sets.

MINERAL RIDGE Courtney Skiba scored 14 points and Alex Ladd 10 with three aces and 17 assists for the Rams (2-9, 1-6 ITCL Tier One).
Heather Reinhart had three aces and 11 kills while Taylor Shiley had seven kills and five blocks. Jenna Spackman had 11 assists.
For the Clippers (1-8, 1-6), Emily Fowler and Jackie Hatherill each had 11 points. Hatherill made seven blocks while Katie Douglas had five plus seven kills. Paige Papania had nine kills and Gina Snavely made 18 assists.

LORDSTOWN Meaghan Gibson led the Red Devils (10-1, 6-0 Northeastern Athletic Conference) with eight kills. Amanda Wickline scored 20 points. Alisha Miller had four assists.
Morgan Snider led the Braves (0-9, 0-6) with four blocks, five points and two kills. Elli Matejka had 12 assists.
