Home ground may aid Salem in MAC meet
SALEM Liz Shivers, Lauren Shivers, Alexis Thorne and Erin Murphy, who were second, third, fourth and sixth at last year's Metro Athletic Conference cross country championships, return for Salem High School as it defends its title at the Quakers' 5,000-meter course Saturday at 9 a.m.
Schools competing in the meet will be Campbell, East Liverpool, Howland, Niles, Poland, Salem and Struthers.
The boys run will feature Patrick Gorby (16:05) of Salem, Erik Reed (16:55) of East Liverpool, Jim Ramson (17:05) of Poland and Brandon Lucas (17:06) of East Liverpool. The Quakers are the defending champs.
Lordstown defending champ
BERLIN CENTER Lordstown will defend its boys title at the Western Reserve Invitational at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Schools entered are East Canton, last year's girls champs; Garrettsville Garfield, Mineral Ridge, South Range, Western Reserve and Lordstown.
Lordstown junior Jake DiEugenio (17:27) will try for his second straight individual title.
Scott Chaffee of Lordstown, Josh Palmer of Mineral Ridge and Mike Kenney of South Range will contend.
Caitlin Sharp of East Palestine is the defending girls champ. Kayla Witmer of South Range, Kayla Ellks of Lordstown, Trisha Cameron of Mineral Ridge and Sam Hamilton of Jackson-Milton should make it an interesting run.
