Simon's score leads Mooney; Ursuline wins



Canfield and Howland tied as did Poland and Niles, both by 1-1 scores.

RICHFIELD — Sophomore James Simon scored the only goal of the game as the Mooney High soccer team defeated Revere on Thursday.

Jonathon Critell earned his seventh shutout of the season.

Ursuline 7, Warren Harding 0

YOUNGSTOWN — Giovanni Borgia had three goals in a Steel Valley Conference game, while Nick Clowes, Justin Mihaly, Vlad Lungu and Corey Mihaly also scored. Lungu had three assists and Nick Clowes had one. John Colla had seven saves.

For Warren Harding, Caleb Tatebe had eight saves and Ryan Burk had three.

JVs: Harding 1-0.

Canfield 1, Howland 1

CANFIELD — Nick Benedetto scored for Canfield (10-1-2, 8-1-2 Metro Athletic Conference) and John Congelio had six saves.

Sean Gerin scored for Howland (10-1-2, 8-0-2) and Paul Burley had six saves.

Canfield outshot Howland 14-7.

Poland 1, Niles 1

POLAND — Alan Gavolas scored the goal for the Bulldogs (5-4-4, 4-2-4 MAC). Thomas Lange had two saves.

Kyle Swift scored the goal for the Red Dragons. Ryan Gregory had seven saves.

JVs: Poland 7-0.

Hubbard 4, Newton Falls 0

NEWTON FALLS — R.J. Lee scored two goals for Hubbard in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.

Alex Chick and Jeremy Frazzini each had one for the Eagles (7-4-2, 6-1-2). Chick had two assists.

Hubbard had 37 shots on goal, compared to 11 for the Tigers (4-6-1, 3-4-1).

Galen Hayek had 11 saves for the Eagles. Kurt Ellis had 23 saves for the Tigers.

The Eagles are tied for first place in the conference standings with Lakeview and will host the Bulldogs on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the TAC championship.

In a match in Cortland earlier this season, Hubbard and Lakeview battled to a 3-3 tie. The Eagles must win outright to claim the crown.

Girls

Warren JFK 7, Kennedy Catholic 0

WARREN — Roxy Hoerig had three goals and Kellie Kovac added two for Warren JFK (8-4-1). Jerrica Cooper and Mel Esposito added goals, while Esposito, Genna Roman and Annie Giangardella added assists. Jacque Lombardi had three saves.

Alyssa Evans had 14 saves for Kennedy Catholic (5-4-1).

Youngstown Christian 7,
Springfield 5

AUSTINTOWN — Kristi Cooper and Kara Cooper each had three goals and an assist for Youngstown Christian (7-6-1), while Alyssa Rojas had a goal.

Katie Bratz led the Tigers with two goals. Breanne Mincher, Chelsea Pavlin and Amber Usciahowski added one apiece.

Amanda Vestal and Kathy Wengerd combined for 21 saves for the Eagles. Courtney Pavlin had nine saves for the Tigers.
