Mooney is too much for perennial power



Canfield squeaked past Boardman, 2-1.

STRUTHERS — Vickie Dreiling and Ashley Cuba scored goals Saturday as the Mooney High girls soccer team defeated Chippewa, 2-0.

Goalkeeper Veronica Skowron made six saves for the Cardinals (8-2-1).

Chipps' (10-2 ) goalkeeper Megan Shipley made seven saves for last year's Division II state runner-up.

Canfield 2, Boardman 1

BOARDMAN — Jill Halfhill and Kaley Donovan had the goals for Canfield (9-4-1). Jill Terreri had an assist for the Cardinals.

Katie Stoll scored the goal for Boardman.

Canfield goalkeeper Anokha Padubidri made six saves while Lani Vlad and Cheyenne Khatib combined for seven stops for Boardman.

Maplewood 6, Girard 2

GIRARD — Michelle Sloan scored two goals for the Rockets (10-4). Katya Domes, Ellie Engstrom, Tori Spencer and Kaleigh Hartman each had one.

Spencer had three assists and Sloan two. Bonnee Clute had five saves.

Ashley Isoldi and Sierra Roberts scored a goal apiece for the Indians (3-4-1). Goalkeeper Ashley Esposito made 10 saves.

Youngstown Christian 7,
Liberty 1

AUSTINTOWN — Kara Cooper had three goals and one assist while her sister, Kristi Cooper, added two goals.

Dami Oshonow and Christy Hartman scored one goal apiece to lead Youngstown Christian.

Amanda Vestal had one assist and goalkeeper Kaitlyn Vestal made 10 saves for Youngstown Christian (8-6-1).

Liberty goalie Becca House made 11 saves.

Boys

AUSTINTOWN — Alan Gavolas scored to help Poland shut out Fitch, 1-0. Gavolas has five goals for the Bulldogs (6-4-4).

JVs: Poland 6, Fitch 1.

Warren Harding 5, Lakeside 2

WARREN — Dmitri Fournaris scored three goals to pace the Raiders (6-7). Brandon Jordan-McElroy and Josh Gray each had one.

James Teagarden, John Phillips, Justin Chapin and Andrew Dobson had an assist apiece. Caleb Tatebe and Ryan Burg, goalies, each had one save.

Matt Jones and Scott Cobltz each scored a goal for the Dragons (1-7-4).

Goalkeepers Kenny Blitz had 18 saves and Jones five.
