Quakers capture another MAC title



SALEM — Brittany Gregory contributed two aces, six kills and six blocks Tuesdayas the Salem High volleyball team again won the Metro Athletic Conference crown with a three-set win over Howland.

Katie Scullion had one ace, seven kills and five blocks as the Quakers won by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-9. Amy Scullion had four aces, four kills and four blocks for the Quakers (20-0 13-0).

For Howland (14-7, 10-3), Taylor Summerfield produced three points with an ace, four kills, 15 assists and a block. JVs: Salem 25-16, 25-19.

POLAND — Ashley Conger led the Bulldogs (13-6, 9-4 MAC) with six kills, four points, three aces and six digs. Lindsey DelSignore had four kills, six points, four aces and six digs. Dayna Blangero had four kills, six points, one ace and six digs.

Doni Muransky had 10 assists, five digs, 22 points and 11 aces.

CANFIELD — Kalie Luklan scored eight points with three aces and made 12 kills and two blocks for the Cardinals (10-10, 9-4 MAC). YOUNGSTOWN — On Senior Night in the Mooney gymnasium, the Cardinals clinched the Steel Valley Conference championship.

Vickie Kocanjer paced the Cardinals (18-2, 6-0) with four blocks, three aces and four kills. Brittany Bleggi had three blocks and five kills. Dayna Daltorio had seven kills and 11 digs.

For the Cowgirls (9-12, 3-2), Jessica Gavin scored 12 points, Stephanie Merrero had seven kills, Jasmyn Hopkins five blocks, Shameka Starkey six digs and Jacquela Teamor 13 assists.

YOUNGSTOWN — Autumn Hall scored 19 points with three aces and two blocks for the Raiders (11-6, 6-4 SVC). Keshia Slater had 16 points, three aces and two blocks while Jocelyn Richardson had 11 digs and Vickie Kosanyer had nine kills.

The Irish (3-15, 2-4) were led by Angeline Rich, who had 11 points, with seven aces and five digs. JVs: Ursuline 25-17, 25-22.

BROOKFIELD — The Eagles are unbeaten in the Trumbull Athletic Conference and clinched a tie for the league crown. Sophie Paddock made 16 kills and three blocks while Kim Budd made 13 digs.

For the Warriors (13-8, 7-6), Morgan Bonekovic collected 14 kills and two blocks while Taralee Williams had 18 assists.

GIRARD — Ashley Palmer collected 16 points, three aces and nine digs as the Indians (18-3, 12-1 TAC) won their fourth straight match. Aly Moliterno added four points, an ace, six kills and six digs while Lauren Chiec tacked on six points and three digs.

For the Tigers (5-15, 1-11), Sasha McGregor had two points and five kills while Blaine Chapman had six assists and five digs.
