Nesbitt's batted ball is clincher for Rondinelli



Tyler Gilmore was named NABF Senior Regional
tournament MVP.

STRUTHERS — A ground ball off the bat of Cory Nesbitt went through the legs of the Andy's 9ers first baseman Monday at Cene Park.

The play produced the go-ahead run as Rondinelli Tuxedo defeated the 9ers, 3-2, for the championship of the NABF Senior (18-under) Regional.

Rondinelli will advance to the NABF World Series in Jackson, Mississippi on Aug 2.

An unearned run had enabled Rondinelli to tie the game at 2 all in the sixth inning. A throwing error plated Frank Rosile who had led off the frame with a walk.

Durkin has RBI

Trailing 2-0, Rondinelli struck in the fourth inning as a single by Matt Katich and a double by Andy Dobson put runners on second and third with one out. Matt Durkin drove home the run with a sacrifice fly.

Robert Switka went the first seven innings allowing only one earned run with six strikeouts for Rondinelli.

Tyler Gilmore tossed two innings of scoreless one-hit relief with three strikeouts for his second win of the tournament. He was named tournament MVP.

Ryan Stofko went the first five innings for Andy's. He was named the Top Pitcher as he went 12 innings and allowed just one earned run.

"My kids played great the entire tournament," Rondinelli manager Tony Gorvet said. "Tyler [GIlmore] called me today and asked if he could come. I told him I might need him to close. Switka pitched a great game."

Gorvet had to watch the end of the game from the outside as he had been ejected in the fifth inning.

R&J Trucking 3, Rondinelli 2

Dom Sylvestri picked up the win for R&J, going all seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out two and walking only one.

Ed Rohan had a hit and two RBIs.

For Rondinelli, Zach Cuffman picked up the loss, going four innings, allowing three runs on four hits, walking four and striking out five.

Chuck Olesky had a triple and an RBI, Katich a double and Rosile an RBI.

Rondinelli 3, Ohio Yankees 1

Rondinelli played well and came out on top in their winner's bracket game.

Ryan Grusecki picked up the win, going seven strong innings, allowing only an unearned run on four hits, walking three and striking out five.

Cory Hitt had a double and an RBI while Dobson and Phil Double each added an RBI.

For the Yankees, Ben Klafczinski had two hits.

Youngstown AA

YOUNGSTOWN — Roth Brothers defeated Youngstown Metros, 6-5, on Monday at Pemberton Park to take a 2-1 lead in the Youngstown AA League's best-of-five championship round.

Mike Sikorski led Roth with three hits, one a double, and two runs scored. Josh Conkey had two hits.

Jim Pasquine's two hits included a double and he scored twice for Metros. Also with two hits were Armani Johnson, John warren and Jason Davis. C.J. Morris drove in two runs.

NABF Junior

STRUTHERS — In the deciding game of the NABF Junior (16-under) Regional, the Astro Falcons scored five times in each of the first two innings and added four more runs in the third to run away to a 15-1 victory over Rondinelli Tuxedo.

Astro advances to the World Series in Northville, Mich., starting on Thursday.

Jake Thomas tossed four scorless innings for the win, his second victory of the tournament. He was named the tournament's outstanding pitcher as he had eight strikeouts in 11 innings of work in the two games.

Trent Vallinger had three hits in the title game and was named the outstanding hitter as he batted .515 over the four days.

Shane Wagner also had three hits while Bryan Visingardi had a double and three RBIs.

Dru Fitzpatrick had two hits for Rondinelli. Jake Kucek of Astro was named the MVP of the tournament as he had tossed eight scorless innings over two games with and added a .400 batting average at the plate.

Earlier, Rondinelli defeated Astro Falcons, 6-4.

Jamie Shephard picked up the win, going six and two thirds, allowing four runs on four hits, walking four and striking out two.

Shephard also led the hitting attack with three hits. Piesto and Jason Bagoly added two hits to the cause. Joe Sekula had a double and an RBI.

For Astro, Kucek picked up the loss, going five innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits, walking only one and not recording a strike out.

Cheslick led the hitting attack with two hits. Vallinger tripled.

Babe Ruth

STRUTHERS — Hammond (Ind.) pitcher Adam Norton tossed a three-hit shutout to send Rondinelli to its first loss in the Babe Ruth 16-year-old regional tournament at Cene Park.

In the Seminoles' 6-0 victory, they advance to today's championship round.

Norton had three strikeouts and did not walk a man and added two hits.

Mike Kozlowski had two hits and two RBIs. Cory Hill and Dru Fitzpatrick and Brad Byers had the hits for Rondinelli.

Kevin McCulloh tossed a complete game in the defeat, allowing four earned runs with a pair of strikeouts.

In a 6-3 victory over Eastern Kentucky, Rondinelli rallied and Fitzpatrick recorded the win, going seven strong innings. He allowed two runs, none earned, on eight hits, striking out seven and walking only one batter.

Nick DiNello led the hitting attack with two triples. McCulloh and Brad Byers had a double and an RBI each.

For Eastern Kentucky, David Johns had three hits, including a triple. Andy Emery had two hits and two RBsI while Brandon Brian had two hits and an RBI.

E. Kentucky 6,
Astro Falcons 3

Todd Kibby took the loss as Astro Falcons were eliminated. Kibby went six innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on 10 hits, walking two and striking out three.

Justin Shaffer and Phillip Woods led the Astro offense with two hits. Kibby and Woods each tripled.

For Eastern Kentucky, Danny Bracken, David Johns, Andy Emery and Billy Walker all had two hits.

Warren AA League

WARREN — Nick Cantarino drove in four runs to lead Girard hardware to a 10-4 victory over the Champion Marlins.

Joe Cvengros had three hits while Steven Hughes, Matt Vukovic, Andy Kalman and Ryan Jacobson had two each.

For Champion, Lance Townsend had two hits.

Vasili Pahoulis and Greg Barton each had two hits to lead the Mahoning Valley Knights to an 8-5 victory over Callahan's Irish Pub. Manoli Pahoulis drove in two runs.

For Callahan's, Nick Zajaczkowski, Cliff Panezich and Nick Pompeo had two hits each.
